I think alot of what I see is great use of old discarded stuff and natural materials but over the top of the cost REBAR, I gotta say this like Archie Bunker.... Where the hell is the terlet at? I never see toilets or showers. I mean to a real man those important things...
I would of loved to had this kind of influence when I was a kid taking geometry and algebra. This would have made us all understand how important and useful the lessons were.
I do do agree with that. It’s basic to show students how to solve equations. But to teach others HOW to use the lessons, takes a Genuine Command of a subject.

Depends on the the country. My understanding he's from Russia. There's a huge price difference. He talks of climate like in Canada, but uses Russian names when speaking of his friends. So not sure. Then again, Canada is covered with forests. Makes sense wood would be cheaper there.

WOW. When I was a teen I bought a book called The Wood Butcher's Art- a Guide to Home Made Houses. I have wanted to make a house along those lines since. You are doing it. I am so impressed.
Found that same book at a used bookstore probably 15 years ago....great book. Snagged that and a book of owner built homes in Woodstock New York as well.
Did he really suggest sneaking onto someone else's property and building these homes and then if caught, just move it?🤣 Anyone building one of these on my property will find it occupied by someone else before they can even arrange bail!
He lost me when I used my eyes to quickly calculate how full of it he is. Title says $1K, video says $2K. Let's assume $1k is exactly as preposterous as it sounds, given we can see more than $1K of material in the video. Using his claims "We built this in 6 weeks working only 5 hours per day for only $2k including labor and all the building materials" and "3 friends can build each other homes in just 3 months" he'd have to pay the other 2 less than $5/hr. just to come in under $2K labor, which leaves nothing for lumber or glass... less than $3/hr. using his 3 month estimate. In other words "squat on someone's property, cut down their trees to use as lumber so you don't have to buy it, get some friends to help you with the promise you'll help them do the same thing later".
I built a 40 m square hobbit hole with round door, fire place, decorative brickwork, self made stone window frames for £400 (cost of the concrete pad), everything else was elbow grease.
Care to dish more on that? What about permits etc - I don't live anywhere able to hide. I mean, we used to do stuff like build a barn (lower costs, taxes, etc.), then borrow somebody's cow to put in there when the inspector was due; later give the cow back and finish out the place as you would a regular house. So long as you didn't mind the outside appearance of a barn, nobody would bother you. Of course you would lose the drama of asking the kids "Did we raise you in a BARN?" since you actually did.
I built a passive design in S WI 16 years ago. If I feel the need I can cool the whole house with a small bedroom AC unit homes 2500sqft house is in full sun. Home doesn't freeze stays 50f in winter. A bit of sun or a bit of electric and its in the 80s.

what do you mean "Hard for the government to find"? You have to buy the land, get building permits and pay property taxes, all of which leaves a paper trail. Of course I'm talking about the United States, you may not be.

Looks nice but I can't see how this could be $1000 or even $2000 including labor at 5 hours per day for 6 weeks. Even if the entire cost goes towards labor, a 5-hour-per-day build for 6 weeks (assuming 5 working days per week) is $13 per hour for one person. How could this add up?
Everyone works for free and most materials are free = low cost. I don't want to knock Earth-ships, they are probably one of the smarter ways to build, but there are issues as of 2023. We are in the rediscovering lost technology phase of our evolution, imho.

What about a building permit I know Canada has some pretty strick building codes, it sounds like you are not doing things according to code, I wouldn't want to spend 3 months building a home to only be told to dismantle it!!!

Wow, it looks like a more complex yet similar building that I designed when I was 14 years old. I was wondering if you have ever designed one that has the building built around an open space that could be planted with bushes and plants and maybe a well for water. The open space could be like a greenhouse that gets fresh air in the summer and be enclosed during winter. I never did much more than think about a partially underground house. I lived in Mexico for a little while and always wished for a home built around an atrium or aviary after seeing some of the old Spanish inspired (at least I think they were inspired by the Spanish) homes that were built around an open space with tiled patios and trees. You designs are beautiful!
I once worked for some millionaires. Their home had an entrance which was a HUGE Bird House (ATRIUM). It was beautiful. It sheltered their pet peacocks in winter.
@@doloresglass8881 don't think I'm that ambitious. I have always wanted a place to have birds but cages were just too confining. The last time I had birds I also had cats. That was a worry until I was able to capture a escaped lovebird. Once I caught him, I had a cage but no place to put the cage out of reach of the cats. So I put it on the floor. Those cats were sure interested. That lovebird wasn't worried. He went right next to the bars of the cage. If he could talk, he would have been saying "Here kitty kitty kitty". The cats went over to him and tried to sniff him. As soon as their noses poked through the bars, CHOMP! After that, my cats lost interest. They wouldn't even look at the lovebird. In fact, they wouldn't look at my finches either. They didn't want anything to do with the birds outside either. They never caught a bird outside. Lizards and snakes they caught. Bugs too. If I let my lovebird or budgies out the cats left the room. It was the quickest aversion training I have ever seen.

Using some of the engineering that the Amish and the Japanese use are pretty similar in some ways burning the lumber actually keeps you from having to use chemical-based lumber like pressure treated😂
A lot of 'how to' skills in this sales pitch are easily found on other channels for free. Showing images of other's much heavier and more advanced building designs, then saying it can be built for $1K and moved in an emergency, is as disingenuous as it gets. I've seen these pitches before, and only one person will profit from it. Caveat Emptor!

I have followed Khalil Gibran for several years as well as many alternative builders - James Hubbell is one of my favorites in bioarchitecture. He has built some of the most beautiful structures I've ever seen. Anyway, the thing I have to ask above anything else is this a building forum that will cover building codes and getting local county/city engineering approval for this alternative building process. Like the tire foundations - is that something a city/county engineer would sign off on? Using "out of spec" locally sourced wood? There are other questions that I have, but the issue is getting the build up with that type of approval.
@@romabatala You obviously don't understand the way it works. YOU can buy land. IF it is within certain city/county limits, YOU are subject to BUILDING CODES. It isn't a suppression by an evil government, but a way to ensure what you building does not become a death trap for the occupants through a total foundation failure to a blazing fire caused by faulty wiring. Yes, building codes can be difficult to negotiate, but setting them aside because you feel they "oppress humans" is a stupid and childish viewpoint.

Wow, it looks like a more complex yet similar building that I designed when I was 14 years old.
I was wondering if you have ever designed one that has the building built around an open space that could be planted with bushes and plants and maybe a well for water. The open space could be like a greenhouse that gets fresh air in the summer and be enclosed during winter.
I never did much more than think about a partially underground house. I lived in Mexico for a little while and always wished for a home built around an atrium or aviary after seeing some of the old Spanish inspired (at least I think they were inspired by the Spanish) homes that were built around an open space with tiled patios and trees.

I once worked for some millionaires. Their home had an entrance which was a HUGE Bird House (ATRIUM). It was beautiful. It sheltered their pet peacocks in winter.
@@doloresglass8881 don't think I'm that ambitious. I have always wanted a place to have birds but cages were just too confining. The last time I had birds I also had cats. That was a worry until I was able to capture a escaped lovebird. Once I caught him, I had a cage but no place to put the cage out of reach of the cats. So I put it on the floor. Those cats were sure interested. That lovebird wasn't worried. He went right next to the bars of the cage. If he could talk, he would have been saying "Here kitty kitty kitty". The cats went over to him and tried to sniff him. As soon as their noses poked through the bars, CHOMP! After that, my cats lost interest. They wouldn't even look at the lovebird. In fact, they wouldn't look at my finches either. They didn't want anything to do with the birds outside either. They never caught a bird outside. Lizards and snakes they caught. Bugs too. If I let my lovebird or budgies out the cats left the room. It was the quickest aversion training I have ever seen.
I hope I can build one of these with passive solar greenhouse in zone 4b in BC.

Using some of the engineering that the Amish and the Japanese use are pretty similar in some ways burning the lumber actually keeps you from having to use chemical-based lumber like pressure treated😂
A lot of 'how to' skills in this sales pitch are easily found on other channels for free. Showing images of other's much heavier and more advanced building designs, then saying it can be built for $1K and moved in an emergency, is as disingenuous as it gets. I've seen these pitches before, and only one person will profit from it. Caveat Emptor!

I have followed Khalil Gibran for several years as well as many alternative builders - James Hubbell is one of my favorites in bioarchitecture. He has built some of the most beautiful structures I've ever seen. Anyway, the thing I have to ask above anything else is this a building forum that will cover building codes and getting local county/city engineering approval for this alternative building process. Like the tire foundations - is that something a city/county engineer would sign off on? Using "out of spec" locally sourced wood? There are other questions that I have, but the issue is getting the build up with that type of approval.

@@romabatala You obviously don't understand the way it works. YOU can buy land. IF it is within certain city/county limits, YOU are subject to BUILDING CODES. It isn't a suppression by an evil government, but a way to ensure what you building does not become a death trap for the occupants through a total foundation failure to a blazing fire caused by faulty wiring. Yes, building codes can be difficult to negotiate, but setting them aside because you feel they "oppress humans" is a stupid and childish viewpoint.
