Awesome job 👏 Thanks for making these videos. I went with the brand you mentioned and happy with it, it leans to drivers side no offset in the shifter handle. I don't mind it took a few minutes to get use to the extra effort for reverse. Also did new cables, internet scares me when guys are stranded with broken cable's. The old ones seem pretty strong 💪 Not sure if the trubo cables are better than NA car's.
Thank you! Honestly I struggled a bit making this video when I got stuck and damaged the shift knob from the get go. I agree, the Numeric Racing looks well built and is a great choice also! Too bad it gets all covered up. I suppose the old cables eventually wears out after a while. I've read installing the cables can be a pain, and with my recent DIY experiences of running into some sort of difficulties, I hope my cables are still okay.
Thanks for the video Jim. Question for you... I'm thinking of doing something for my shifter. I'd like a shorter throw but my biggest issue is the amount of "wobble" I have in the shifter like you show at 4:30. How much was it reduced after the SSK? It seems like the play is caused by the plastic parts which the SSK also has (GT3 shifter has the full throw but some of the pivot points are metal at least) but I figure that just having new plastic/nylon in the SSK would help somewhat? Your thoughts? Thanks!
I would suggest looking into the Numeric shifter if reducing play is a priority. But you may also need to upgrade the shifter cables to reduce the play further (I read the cables can be noisy though). But I'm very happy with the SSK as to me, it has the perfect amount of throw, not too short, is what Porsche should have included from the factory. I'm also happy with the reduction in play as I assume my original shifter was worn after 60K miles of use. It still has a little bit of play which is to expected but it doesn't bother me and some of that is probably from the shifter cable.
Yes, Numeric Racing was on the top of my list, but found a deal on a used SSK. Numeric even had a sale, but I just didn't want to spend that much as I've had too many big unexpected expenses lately. I'm happy with the SSK as it's a big improvement from my old worn out shifter. It's not as nice and may have a bit more play as the Numeric but the tiny bit of play doesn't bother me. The stock cables probably has some play anyway and I don't plan on replacing them yet.
I have the Kenwood DDX9705S i got over a year ago. It has wireless Android Auto (currently only select phones are supported) which I like. It can also play DVD/CD but looking back, I never use that feature so you can save some money and have a smaller footprint with models without that feature. Backup camera are easy to install with most aftermarket head unit, just need to find the reverse wire which I tapped off the reserve light bulb. The hardest part (tedious/time consuming) is running the wire and video cable to the rear. I also installed a front camera to avoid scraping my front lip.
It's been great, still works like new, it does have a tiny bit of play as expected. I'm more concern about the stock shifter cables links wearing out. Thanks.
The editing is hilarious.😂😂
Haha, thanks!
Good job. Things break its a part of learning.
Thanks for breaking stuff to show the rest of us how it is done.
Thanks, though a bit embarrassing to admit it, also hate it because P parts are pricey though I'm glad as the old part was showing some wear.
Great video. My 997 Turbo has this shifter. Works great
Thanks Al. Love your videos! Keep them coming.
Awesome job 👏

Nice work.... plenty of extra plastic to hold it all on...I done the same SSK job

Great video.
Lots of small steps to get in there. Did you consider numeric shift cables/linkages? I don’t even know if they are compatible with the OEM SSK.

You should give a car tour.
Can you tell me what head unit you installed and was it easy to fit with the reverse camera?

@@atm4jim Thanks! I will check out the head unit. Running the wire from the camera is the bit I'm dreading to be honest
Could you tell me the part number for this please?
Sure, it's 99742498300 Porsche short shifter.
how's the SSK short shifter holding up?
It's been great, still works like new, it does have a tiny bit of play as expected. I'm more concern about the stock shifter cables links wearing out. Thanks.
this video doesn't actually show how to do this...just advertisement and skipping over steps!!
