Ha ha, well spotted. I don't usually wear a watch when working on cars, but we must have been out somewhere and I saw the opportunity to do a quick video. I wouldn't have been wearing working in the engine bay or under the car.
On my 1999 stock shifter the tabs around the plastic bushings just would not break off with just scoring and lifting up with a screwdriver. The plastic was much more "Bendable" and did not just break off ass in this vid. I had to use a a small moto tool with a cutting disc to remove them.
So on my 98 2.5 l I can only see one clip side at a time and the white inner plastic protrudes out more that in should and is pushed in all the way. Really annoying.
2 years on, are you pleased with the new action? Some say that unless you use the stupidity overpriced ones the shift action is heavy and notchy. Would you go back to original or look at different options?
I have never tried to install one with the housing in. I would think that cutting the tabs off to remove the old one would be tricky. It is so quick and easy to remove the housing thar I can't think why you would even try.
@@martinhill5770 You mentioned it's modified. I know you can get cheap $35 Short shifters in ebay, but the guy from Ben auto design takes these and modifies the bearings etc so is this what Alex does? Where can you buy or only through email?
@@zascar That is pretty much it. Alex runs a machine shop, so he takes the poorly engineered parts out and replaces them with accurately made parts. Best to contact him by email, he is based in the north west of England.
I've just done this mod on my cayman 987.1 and your video really helped, so thank you. It feels SO much better with the shorter shift 😁

Still very pleased. So much so that I will be fitting one to my 996 cabriolet as well over Christmas.
How does it feel in the car over the stock shifter?
Noticeably shorter and more precise, not sure it would be to everybodies taste.

No, this is a version modified by Alex on 911UK to have much better mounts and tighter tolerances.

I got one of these and love mine, but can I just say, WTF AT YOUR STUPID STOCK BUSHINGS PORSCHE. God I hated taking those out.
