    Fun fact about Pemmin's Aura: the enchantment gives the creature it's attached to all the abilities of a blue creature from Urza's Saga called Morphling. Due to Morphling's ability to give itself flying, along with it's other combo-enabling abilities and propensity to beat face, earned it the affectionate nickname of "Superman." Thus, if you rearrange the letters in Pemmin's Aura, you'll find it's a perfect anagram for "I am Superman."
    And that's why you should automatically win the game if you equip a Pemmin's Aura to a Darksteel Colossus.

    I just recently pulled a card that will work wonders in this deck. It's Serpent of Yawning Depths, it's a 6/6 that costs 4 and 2 blue to cast, it's an enchantment creature serpent with the ability "Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents you control can't be blocked except by Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents"

    Bear Umbra!
    2 generic, green green= "whenever you attack with enchanted creature untap ALL lands you control"
    +(totem armor) "if an effect would destroy target creture instead destroy this aura"
    Throw this bad boy on one of your creatures, play a shittonne of cards, attack, then play even more cards. And one of your big creatures gets protection.
    now that's what i call value!

    I've had an Arixmethes tribal commander deck ever since Arix came out, so I'm happy to see you do an episode on them! There's a few good cards I didn't know existed in here, and I'll be looking at tweaking the deck with 'em. One big difference between our decks is how I've kept nearly all cards on theme, so it doesn't have as intense early game ramp, but can still ramp quite nicely. It cost me about $75, but I've got some great merfolk synergy as well as tons of ways to give all of the giant beasts islandwalk, so there's plenty of ways to win there.
    Another good win-con card is Hadana's Climb. It's not as instant as the Golden Pig of this deck, but once it transforms it would let you turn your commander into a 24/24 flying, or heck, just boost another creature if someone's bounced or killed Arix. (That happens a lot, people see Arix and think "Oh no he's playing Voltron kill it") so it makes it very useful if you don't have access to your commander.
    I also think that Tishana, Voice of Thunder is a good card for a reasonable upgrade. Obviously your draw effects are huge, and if you have them in the battlefield, it'll both make Tishana huge as well, while also letting you avoid discarding down to 7, while also being a great draw card with all of your beasts and manadorks. With his current lowest price at $1.05, I'm rather surprised he wasn't included!

      Good additions you've made there. I'm thinking of throwing in the End-Raze Forerunners. They don't fit well into the seamonster-theme, but for one big and surprising swing they're fine I guess

    I have one suggestion:
    Since I’m still less than a couple of months into commander knowing what to swap out for reasonable upgrades can be helpful. Either way- thanks! I seriously have tons of fun with my arcades deck and I’m looking forward to building a few more you have!

    So, I used this deck as a base and tried making a deck as closely as possible, maybe 85% the same and got smashed pretty hard every time against a geared up Ghired Conclave deck and an Elsha precon deck(matches often turned into a 2v1 though), but even in 4 1v1v1v1 games, board wipes crippled the deck beyond salvaging (though it was an average of 5-6 board wipes per game).
    I changed the strategy up and removed about another 15% of the cards and exchanged some of the weaker crackens, quest for Ula, changelings and weaker draw spells for cheap spells that focused on turning Arixmethes into a little land creature or finding a way to get infinite mana ASAP, and now this deck has the potential for being a lethal threat by turn 3 or 4 (although with obvious upgrade such as sol ring). In a 1v1, under the right circumstances, it's incredibly powerful without needing to overwhelm the enemy with an army of krakens, but still has the potential to.
    A few other cards were:
    - Drift of Phantasms (Basically gives you one more chance to search for Pemmin's aura or Freed from the Real)
    - Waker of the Wilds ($0.14), Bypassing the slumber counters (and if you have infinite mana combo , then you can make it a 21/21 and instantly CD-KO)
    - Verdant Touch (If you have Infinite mana combo, you can buyback and turn everyone's lands into creatures if you or someone decides to boardwipe)
    - Quirion Druid (Just to turn Arixmethes into a creature faster so you can attach the aura to them if you have it)
    - Argothian Elder (similar to Kiora's Follower)
    - Orochi Leafcaller (very efficient way to filter mono green into blue)
    - Clockspinning
    It is just way more efficient to find ways to abuse infinite mana, and people don't see a 21/21 commander land without summoning sickness coming at them by turn 4

    I have a clunky mono-blue sea creature EDH deck that is gathering dust & this is exactly what I needed to reinvigorate it! The untap tricks with Arixmethes at the helm are a whole new way to win, and the extra ramp and card draw spells green adds are a sweet cherry on top. Plus, I had already picked up Arixmethes thinking he'd go in the 99 in some other deck.Thanks Mitch!

    I‘m working on this commander for some time now. Not that much on a budget, but I tried to keep it in a normal range...for the mentions I would add „The great henge“; „Return of the Wildspeaaker“;“primal empathy“;“Kamahls druidic vow“; „Nissa, Steward of elements“; „Vivien‘s Arcbow“ and „Nyx Lotus“. I also play some clone-Spells like Phyrexian Metamorph, Altered Ego or clever impersonator that can be used flexible to help me (for example copy a thran dynamo or a non-legendary sea-monster. I will try to use Rashmi as a commander in this deck, which can be a very strong card advantage in the mid-game, when the big Monsters hit the field. One very special serpent is elemental in this deck: Serpent of yawning depths, which lets your krakens, leviathans, serpents and octopuses con only be blocked by krakens, leviathans, serpents and octopuses.

    • @GCDarkDaysGC
      @GCDarkDaysGC 5 лет назад +5

      While i completely agree with you, as i have multiple commander decks that a card or two is worth more than the average deck he makes. However not counting market changes by just adding up the prices he used in the video below each card (not including any basic lands) it came out to 27.44. Which i still think is perfectly fine, he probably was able to find them slightly cheaper when he was online but....I kinda just want to see one of his videos go "Sorry guys i went a few dollars over budget." which would be great in my opinion. I still love watching everything he makes, always content worth watching!

    • @TheCommandersQuarters
      @TheCommandersQuarters  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I wouldn't say people are entitled, and I can understand that people may get frustrated when a deck doesn't come out to the price I found on my end. Could be due to a few factors.
      You do have to go through a two step process to optimize with HP and Damaged cards, which some people don't realize. Also, the decklists are given out early to Patrons, and some of them buy the deck before the video even comes out, which can take out some of the HP and Damaged cards that were available. That and just smaller sellers running out of certain cards.
      It all adds up, and people get frustrated, which is understandable.

    I know this is an old video but after running this deck a lot I’ve decided to cut Ula’s temple. I loved the idea of it when I saw it, but in practice unless you play it turn one and get very lucky from then on, it usually does nothing all game. Ive never gotten it to successfully get to three counters, once per upkeep is very slow. Maybe in a proliferate leaning strategy it would be better but this deck is more get out a lot of big guys not buffing the few you have. Love the idea of the card still.

    Kederekt Leviathan is great with a clone effect. You play him and bounce everything. Then, next turn, you attack with it. After combat, you clone it bouncing everything again, including the original Kederekt Leviathan. After that, you just repeat until your opponent's remove either of them.

    Two other cards that I have found to be workhorses in my Arix deck is Thran Temporal Gateway as it allows you to drop out several of your creatures for 4 mana (I run a few more legends in my deck so it helps a bit more than it would in your list) and Loyal Drake. If for whatever reason you need to keep Arix as a land the drake is drawing you an extra card each turn and makes getting rid of that effect wasteful since your opponent cannot target Arix 90% of the time as a land.

    I feel like tcgplayer pricing is very much not accurate, between market fluctuations, shipping and having to buy a lot of cards from each individual seller. It's honestly cheaper to buy on card kingdom.

    • @zachariahwright9732

      Andrew Hendricks Not to mention that card quality and ship time are far more consistent on Card Kingdom.

      @hayden32040 5 лет назад +25

      But $0.25 is ck's minimum right? If I have to pay 25 cents or more for every card that adds up fast when it comes to budget builds. I just buy tcgdirect to get it all in on package and it's still waaaaay cheaper than ck

    • @oom-3262
      @oom-3262 5 лет назад

      I use magiccardmarket with my folks here in EU, and the decks go even cheaper that 25 dollars, as long as you manage smartly the sending costs. I literally built almost all of the decks with the upgrades included, and they end costing about 3/4 of the og price listed here...

    • @NeuroticLobster
      @NeuroticLobster 5 лет назад +6

      Not to mention that TCG Player's Cart Optimizer is more like Cart Breaker and hardly ever works. Half the time when I try to optimize a cart it returns something more expensive, or splits it up into so many different packages that I end up just wanting to pay twice as much to order everything from Card Kingdom and get it in 2 days for free shipping.

    Good decklist but it needs just a nudge.
    Explore + growth spiral for ramp and card draw. Genesis wave to just bomb the field with all those big nasties. Nissa Steward of elements or Kiora(s) would help with that tide of creatures Thassa for a more focused deck.

      In my experience that tends to happen often when you make budget decks. Mostly because once it’s made other people see it and realize it works well, it gets played more, then that causes the price to go up.

    Green has always been my favorite color, but I seldom played blue, often going for monogreen or green/white. Lately though I have been building a Kadena Deck and a Chulane Deck and I have to say that I really like the combination of ramp, big monsters and good control effects. Add white or black for some good removal aswell. That said, maybe I should go for a two color Green and Blue next? This deck looks unique and has a very cool tribal theme. Been wanting to make a merfolk theme for a long time, but if they can be a subtheme to big sea monsters then its even better.
