Zedruu was my first edh deck I built. I had a lot of fun with that deck, other people didn't think it was so fun but, that's why I built it, it was for me.
@@TheCommandersQuarters absolutely. I understand the spiky mentality but, it's edh... It's supposed to be fun and insane! There's always modern for those spikes.
Another interesting thing about Crown of Doom (and Zedruu decks in general) that a lot of people are already gonna be familiar with but I want to point out for those who might have overlooked it: A card's owner is specifically the person who brought the card to the table. They had it in their library at the start of the game. Which means that the two mana "Hot potato" ability can't be used to give it back to you, it just goes around the table when everybody's at low health, eating up their mana.
Pro tip: Sleeve your cards in a color that's very different than whatever your friends sleeve their cards in when using a deck like this (or a deck that steals lots of stuff for that matter). It'll make getting your cards back at the end of the game a lot easier. I prefer florescent orange over my usual jet black in this case.
To anyone that sees this, as of August 15, 2019, this deck (including the shipping) cost me a total of $48.96, which easily fits within Mitch's new Deck Tech Guidlines Of course, this price was made using TCGPlayer's Cart Optimizer, optimizing with heavily used and damaged cards because those cards need a home, too :^)
Themistocles, commander is political, having someone in your pocket is often more important than having protection from one creature. I imagine he probably was just pointing out that the card would be a useful one, even if you do give it away.
Yeah, did a search to find this comment. He literally says if we attach this [Spectral Grasp] to a creature and then give it away, nothing changes. But it completely changes. Had he been talking about Pacifism, he would have been right. Spectral Grasp, not so much.
He might mean that you attach it to one of your own creatures, then give /your/ creature away. You'd still control the enchantment, just not the creature.
1. Thought Lash is a very brutal card in this deck. If you're running Lab Maniac you can immediately deck yourself and win with him, if you want to be that kind of guy. 2. Illusions of Grandeur is a more painful version of Delusions of Mediocrity. Cards are like $3 - $5 but they're mean as hell, especially Thought Lash.
Holy moly you actually saw my comment? That's awesome, thanks! I love your videos since they've helped me get my friends into the game and format. So thank you for that much! I only knew about those cards because I have a Zedruu deck already. I was surprised you didn't have Illusions of Grandeur as an upgrade since you know about Delusions of Mediocrity- in my experience people know about Illusions rather than Delusions, I mean. But really, anyone reading this, invest in Thought Lash. People will hate you forever but it's a powerful as hell card to give someone.
@@ManMadeGod4 I have thought lash in my Zedruu, but never thought of decking myself with it. Already have the Jace that wins through decking, just need to grab a lab man
Can we get an updated version of this deck mitch? I've recently become interested in zedruu and looking for a budget enchantress build which taxes and slows opponents.
Wait why no Solitary Confinement because it works perfectly with Zadruu because her upkeep happens before the draw phase so you still draw cards from your upkeep but not you draw phase? So Solitary Confinement is broken with Zadruu. You can trigger Zadruu upkeep first so you draw the cards and gain the life and then you just discard one of the cards you drew from Zadruu.
Zedruu is one of my recent decks and I am still fine tuning it. Words of war I didn't even know existed until this video, but it could be a really cool way to win and I want to try it out now. Thanks for the vid.
Zedruu is so much fun! My deck focuses more on politics, though. I help those who are behind (Oath of Lieges & Hunted Dragon etc.) and punish those who are ahead (Diaochan, Artful Beauty & Fractured Identity etc.). Coveted Jewel is also hilarious in a Zedruu list. =)
I've been watching for about a week now and everything you put out is great! I'm saving all my change for decks ^^ I love the spin you put on all of them as well. Keep up the great work.
I like Thought Lash which can exile an opponent's library if they get control of it and then can't remove it. While you control it, it can also protect you or even dig for a seventh-card-down Second Sun. Delusions of Grandeur is also a 20 point burn spell if donated a lot of the time.

As far as the upgrades go, what would you recommend removing to put those in? I'm going to start with the decklist provided and eventually upgrade as I haven't been playing magic long
This whole time I just took commander's quarters to mean a place where people who played commander lodged or hung out; I just realized the double meaning in terms of using actual quarters in your piggy bank (25cents) to make decks. Hahaha...nice. Love this channel. Also I'm getting this deck, thanks.
I built this deck along time ago with some of the more expensive cards, I also included copper tablet, dingus egg, Ankh of Mishra, and steel golem. Also everytime you give something away you must say " It is the will of Zedruu, that you should have (card name) for it is shiney and powerful. I will sit here drawing cards and gaining life."
Should do one on the flip Avacyn. Can go more of s big red and control route with her utilizing her ETB to save your stuff, then wiping the board. Plus the flavor possibilities with her is amazing. Love your work btw one if the best chanel's I've watched for commander and you've actually helped me learn alot about different cards and deck building, keep fighting the good fight
The wording on spectral grasp, "...cant attack you..." refers to the controller of the card, so if you donate this card, the player you donated it to will receive the effects, and you can be attacked and block by that creature.
Please make a Depala Deck! Dwarfes and Vehicles are Budget anyway and this seems like a fun Boros Deck which could compete against Non-Boros Decks because of Depala‘s built-in draw. The vehicles could make a good artifact subtheme which could be benefical for the ramp (in case it gets blown up). Make it happen, you‘re the real deal! Your content is really awesome :)
Jinxed Idol and Jinxed Choker are also great includes if you are going the Cursed Gifts route. You can give them away during your untap step before your upkeep.
This is my favorite commander! I love her! I built a super fun political taxes deck with her where I just low-key control the flow of the game and then win through attrition and value.
Daring Thief would work well in this as well, just one blue and 2 mana: Inspired - Whenever Daring Thief becomes untapped, you may exchange control of target nonland permanent you control and target permanent an opponent controls that shares a card type with it. really great for trading enchantments with ones you would donate anyway. at 25 cents its a cool include and you don't have to even with if you cast Conclave Tribunal and use it to convoke.
Hey Mitch! I don't know if you still reading posts from this video, but question: Why not include Sigil of the Empty Throne on this build? I'm planning to build my Zedruu based on yours and I was thinking about include the card...
Hi! Any recomendation on what to take out for the upgrades? I bought the following extra cards: Illusions of grandeur, aetherflux reservoir, swiftfoot boots, sol ring, deflecting palm, reliquary tower, wild research, curse of opulence, ghostly prison, statecraft, politcal trickery, crown of doom and inifinite reflection
I do love Zedruu and I love the idea of running a lot of cards that will work the same regardless where it is on the board, but I dislike using so much "don't untap" cards on Zedruu (Section "Or Not" of this video). I'm not complaining or anything, just sharing an experience. It is your deck and your strategy, I just like to add more value to my foes, instead of taking it away from them. If I'm playing on a table with you and someone else with a 5/5 that is attacking me, I'll be thankful if you gave me a 1/1 to block the larger creature, but that won't stop me to turn against as soon as I can, if you completly shuts down my green deck. Or my 5+ creatures. Or don't let me untap things at all. Maybe I only needed that 1/1 to block because my 5/8 is tapped in the first place. That makes me hate you, when for me, Zedruu players should be seem as "a tool to be managed carefully". Preventing untap, card theft and land destruction are the most "aggro-drawing" thing in commander, from my experience. By giving cards that add value to the other players, I'm usually left alone until 1v1, where I had a whole game to plan ahead and win the game. I don't want people attacking me, I want people to think "hey, he gave me a cool card now, maybe I'll convince him into giving me something else that is good". When they think like that, I'm never a target until it is too late. Just different gameplans with the same commander. But your video is amazing, with a lot of awesome cards ! Thank you !
I have a general EDH question. Why not run Armillary Sphere in addition to Wayfarer's Bauble? It does cost a total of an additional colorless, but it lets you fetch an additonal land.
Zedruu is a fun commander. The version that I run is a semi-chaos build. I might add some of the stuff that you have in your deck tech to my own. Great vid.😀
One noteworthy card to use in Zedruu is "Ward of Bones", which is a 6 mana artifact that has "Each opponent who controls more creatures than you can't play creature spells. The same is true for artifacts, enchantments, and lands." As of now it costs around 10 dollars on TCGPlayer, but if you have the money to spare, Ward of Bones is definitely a great way to shut down opponents by giving them things. But be wary of sorcery/instant/planeswalker spells that destroys artifacts.
Loved it. I'll definitely have to try this out. If I can put a suggestion up there, how about mairsil, the pretender? I'd love to see you do a 25$ budget build of him. Thanks!
Well Lab maniac is a really good backup card if you draw out your entire deck No maximum hand size cards, including Reliquary Tower Niv-Mizzet Paruun would be hilarious in this deck just due to how many cards you’re drawing (imagine the pinging)
that was actually my first budget edh deck! dredge with ob nixillis the fallen, skirge familliar and splendid reclamation. you will crank out 90 damage in one turn if you do it right
Jaxx Sentinel nice actually figured out a deck for the monster 1 Zombie Infestation 98 lands but you need to mul to 1 card aka Zombies Infestation so you can play it turn 2 and you get out the the monster on 5 you discard and basically become a Niv Mizzet deck with how much you draw also that’s actually impressive how did you do it
@@TheCommandersQuarters it is! Gitrog has ways to combo that, are not only budget-friendly, but give competition tuned decks a run for their money! Also, for consistency , I would suggest gaea's blessing in a dredge build along with ranumap excavator (replaces kozelik and crucible for the same effects , but allows heavier combos in the late game)
I love the idea of this deck! Hope to try it out! But I was also wondering if you could try one for Experiment Kraj, He looks like a fun commander to play but having a budget option would be great.
I have been playing a norin chaos combo deck for years now, you tend to pick up some whacky stuff. Especially Thieves auction would be amazing since you get to pick first allowing you to always get zedruu back, it also scrambles the lands meaning you will easily have over 10 draws from zedruu after resolving.
avarice amulet with akroan horse would make the amulet not always work on its upkeep trigger. same with contested warzone as people can tap it in response. coveted jewel might work but it gives too much card advantage to the players who toss it back and forth. shuriken could be decent enough as well for minor control of the fields mana dorks.
I made a really bad Zedruu deck once. The goal was to load leveler into a summoner's egg, give it away and then break it open. I had other stuff like worldgorger and eater of days in there too, but leveler was the always the goal. I managed to get there once. When the leveler flipped and I ended my turn, everyone looked at my opponent's hand and field for like 5 minutes to see if I actually got the kill on them. I did. Zedruu now lives comfortably in a toploader on my desk to remind me of the time when having fun with an absolutely stupid deck concept worked.
Your version of Zedruu looks really fun. I had zedruu as my commander but I swapped her with K&T because Zedruu gets targeted pretty hard. Pyromancer’s swaith is completely brutal!
I appreciate the series a lot, I wanna snag a couple of your budget builds for my roommates and I but all of them end up being more than the estimated price, do you or anyone have a suggested site for getting somewhere close or closer to the estimated price range? :/ including tax even perhaps? :l I also do acknowledge price changes depending on things but still :/
An interesting commander I'd love to see from you would be Nahiri, the Lothomancer. The design seems like it would be voltron, but you cant really do that with a planeswalker
I was planning on making a deck for this commander already, but it wasn't gonna be cheap. I'll probably use this a skeleton, it's hella solid for it's price lol
Love this deck, and totally getting it! I would love a deck centered around the most annoying commander you can find, win the only purpose of messing with everyone. Probably runs possibility storm, manabarbs, and sulfuric vortex.
Oh my god , this looks like so much fun to play . I could see an alternative version that produces a lot of mana and uses banefire to kill opponents though , this deck feels like it lacks a bunch of wincons but i guess that's what building on a budget is .
What's the best way for me to buy all these cards at once with ease? I've tried to copy the list on a few sites but end up having to do them all one by one. I'm in the UK if that helps. PS. I am quite an MTG/EDH rookie so your thorough explanations are great! Keep it up!
I love your videos and your decks! I was wondering if you could make a cheap competitive Evra, Halcyon Witness EDH deck? With how cheeky she is, it doesn't seem like it would take a lot to one shot your opponents and it not have it break the bank.
Would you sell some signed wayfarer's bauble ? I mean, it's in nearly every single one of the deck techs Mitch !
That actually would be dope!

I love the idea of this deck! Hope to try it out! But I was also wondering if you could try one for Experiment Kraj, He looks like a fun commander to play but having a budget option would be great.
Maybe in the future! Would be a fun one!
I know its a bit out of budget being around 15$ atm but would rhystic study be a good addition?
No mentions for confusion in the ranks, puca's mischief, risky move or thieves' auction? Each of those would be amazing for the deck.
Great considerations!
Woho finally a zedruu deck! :) gonna get the deck asap! I did open a locust god that im gonna put in! Love your videos keep up the good work!
Nice! Will do!
To bad Splintering Wind is outside of the colors of this deck. But what do you think about Bubble Matrix or Forced Fruition for this deck?
Good considerations!
Wingrace would be a really cool dude to have a deck tech on. The deck builds itself almost if u dont have a budget but 25 dollars would be a challenge
These videos are so helpful. Keep em coming dude.
avarice amulet with akroan horse would make the amulet not always work on its upkeep trigger. same with contested warzone as people can tap it in response. coveted jewel might work but it gives too much card advantage to the players who toss it back and forth. shuriken could be decent enough as well for minor control of the fields mana dorks.
Can you guys do testing videos with 4 decks of the same price
Yayyy, thank you! Now you just need to do Krenko and all my wishes will have come true.
Maybe in the future! Would be a fun one!
That it is!
Before I watch, I bet Gilded Drake will be in there.
Update: i have FAILED.
Update 2: gilded drake is more expensive then I had thought.
Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign please.
Maybe in the future! Would be a fun one!
I appreciate the series a lot, I wanna snag a couple of your budget builds for my roommates and I but all of them end up being more than the estimated price, do you or anyone have a suggested site for getting somewhere close or closer to the estimated price range? :/
including tax even perhaps? :l
I also do acknowledge price changes depending on things but still :/
Wait aura cards still affect the initial enchanted creature even if it's moved to another player?
Yes, because the aura enchants the player through its effect. The controller of the card is irrelevant.
An interesting commander I'd love to see from you would be Nahiri, the Lothomancer. The design seems like it would be voltron, but you cant really do that with a planeswalker
Would be fun! Maybe in the future!
Just thinking of doing zedruu and i think this is a good entry point. Thanks
I was planning on making a deck for this commander already, but it wasn't gonna be cheap. I'll probably use this a skeleton, it's hella solid for it's price lol
Nice!
Love this deck, and totally getting it! I would love a deck centered around the most annoying commander you can find, win the only purpose of messing with everyone. Probably runs possibility storm, manabarbs, and sulfuric vortex.
I've always wanted to build around this card.
Hmmm... Won't hand size be a problem?
If you think discarding to 7 is bad, you don't enough blue.
there are cards you can add to give you no max hand size if you don't mind going over $25
Try Reliquary Tower
nezahal is also budget for blue, and thought vessel is amazing, but more expensive
Personally I am fine with having to discard to 7, but there are definitely cards that can help prevent that
@@TheCommandersQuarters Oh yeah, that's a good point - don't know how I missed those lol
I know you put Delusions of Mediocrity in there, but how did you miss Illusions of Grandeur? Is it just the monetary cost ($5.59)?
Loving the videos! Still waiting on a red-green commander list if you have any of those in the wings.
One or two may be coming!
Oh my god , this looks like so much fun to play .
I could see an alternative version that produces a lot of mana and uses banefire to kill opponents though , this deck feels like it lacks a bunch of wincons but i guess that's what building on a budget is .
now that's a commander you don't see everyday xD. interesting deck
Thanks!
Spread the love!!!!
Haha indeed
Annd what's the upgrade removals in the deck??
What's the best way for me to buy all these cards at once with ease? I've tried to copy the list on a few sites but end up having to do them all one by one. I'm in the UK if that helps.
PS. I am quite an MTG/EDH rookie so your thorough explanations are great! Keep it up!
Eryn Fee if you click on the link for the deck list you can click “buy this deck” and then it’ll add em all to the cart at once
Very fun commander! Great ideas!
It is the Will of Zedruu that you have... this budget deck tech. Take it. Its only $25. I'll be here, drawing cards and gaining life.
Haha indeed
I'd suggest fountain watch as a relatively cheap upgrade that works really really well with this deck
Awesome deck! I'd like to see a break the bank episode for this and Shirei if possible
Maybe in the future!
I love your videos and your decks! I was wondering if you could make a cheap competitive Evra, Halcyon Witness EDH deck? With how cheeky she is, it doesn't seem like it would take a lot to one shot your opponents and it not have it break the bank.
Form of the Dinosaur may be good in this deck??
