Maybe Gene Staples can purchase some of the attractions from Magical Midway such as the Star Flyer and an S&S Shot Tower to be relocated from Orlando to one of his amusement park properties in the IB Parks & Entertainment chain.
I wish but sadly I personally think that the shot tower and star flyer are done for. Now I don’t know for sure but they have been left to rot for at least 6 years now so their condition is not the best. The slingshot is the only thing I can see being saved.
I heard some people saying a couple of weeks ago that Magical Midway was going to re-open in July. I thought they were crazy, but maybe they meant that it would open as something else in July. Anything is possible in Orlando, because things change so fast, but that timeline still seems off. I really wonder what will become of that area. As that whole side of I-drive seems like it is dying. It almost reminds me of 192 now.
I could see the whole area being cleared by July, but that would be it. I'm hearing the Slingshot might be saved. Don't know if that means at this location or else where. Everything else i heard is getting demolished. Hopefully they replace it with another family entertainment center with rides. I also agree, that part of I-Drive is very outdated and needs a revamp. Hopefully it gets it soon!
Their last Facebook comment was 44 weeks ago saying the sling shot was open, rest of park was being renovated. Weird for the sling shot to be closed up, with the Star Flyer being carefully town down (maybe sold??)
It’s possible. The ladder on the inside looked a tad messed up but I’m sure that could get replaced. I just wonder how bad of shape the ride really is.
Magical midway was bought out by the slingshot group i believe they were gonna keep the slingshot and renovate the whole property including tearing down the starflyer spaceblast and redo the go kart track to be paved instead of the wooden tracks. The karts were also to be electric instead of gasoline powered. As far as i am aware they i dont think the slingshot group had the financial capability to renovate the property so closed the park and is being sold to be redeveloped. Dont take my word on that though as it was grey area as of what was happening with the place! Only time will tell!
they better make some miracles happen if they want that park re-opened by july. Now if they plan on leveling everything and opening just the arcade and maybe slingshot, then maybe they could get away with it and have areas blocked off. If they plan on this opening, its gotta be late summer (prob august).
I don't really think the Orlando market has room for such a tiny attraction. It doesn't have a draw. It can't even compete with fun spot. No wonder it's being torn down.
I agree and disagree. I think the market is there for the attraction. It used to thrive pre icon park expanding and adding its on star flyer and slingshot. Once that happened it was all down hill. Why bother riding smaller versions of rides when you can ride taller, faster, scarier versions of them 5 mins down the road. Now if the park stayed relevant adding new thrilling rides i think it would still be around but sadly this isn't the case.
They went bankrupt because of the free fall accident back in 2022. And I know this for sure because I was working thier a sling shot operator. Hours were being cut, the attendance was low, and the plans they had for a Volmitron 2.0 were scraped. Richard knew it was impossible to recover from that lawsuit. So, he had to make the hard decision to permanently shut down this location. Other locations like Old Town and possibly Daytona and Panama will be next. The only location that will still be in operation is ICON and Sunset. It was bound to happen. I'm surprised they lasted this long.
Thank you so much for this info. Very interesting to see this location suffer so much after the accident and ultimately close while the location of the accident remains open. Do you happen to know who the land was sold to? Or what may be happening to the attractions being removed?
@Kingdakev no not really. All the attractions at MM are outdated. The Orlando freefall was sold to an international amusement company because it could never be rebuilt here in the States, but everything that was dismantled at MM was sent to the scrap yard. It's been quiet there for the last 2 years, I think the Slingshot company had their time to shine. All things come to an end. But just think that if things were different with Orlando's freefall, this scenario would have played out differently, IMHO.

@HGZ_ oh for sure. Crazy to think how just one moment in time can change so much and affect so many people.
Old Town is doing extremely well. We don't foresee any closures here nor would it make sense given how busy the attractions are here.
