A great book for you is “The Reaper”, by Nicholas Irving. I don’t know if it is the first or second book, but he wrote about the time after he left the military and how he almost killed himself, and it really is inspiring for people struggling like that to see that he made it through. He was a sniper in the 75th ranger regiment. Don’t remember what battalion but I think he was stationed in ft benning so probably the 3rd ranger battalion.

SEAL Team is great. There have been so many "military" shows where they can't be bothered to get the details right, i.e. how to wear the uniform, what are the appropriate forms of address and behavior between officers and enlisted personnel, how equipment and weapons are used, etc., that they're not worth watching. Another good example was JAG.

Realism and Hollywood are two words that just don't go together. This show has a tonne of vets in advisor roles but it's obvious they are often not listened to in favor of the Hollywood approach. It's to be expected so I won't bitch too much. This show is not as big a departure from reality as most. A show that actually portrayed military life would be extremely unpopular to most tv audiences.

Usually when their are discrepancies it is because they cannot use it correctly due to a contract obligation. Like wearing the ACU with the collar up, or LAPD not being allowed to wear the badge over the heart. It depends on if the organization approves of the correct wear. Sometimes they do not due to a disagreement over the shows subject matter. look it up

I absolutely relate to the identity thing. I remember vividly walking down the street one day and then this thought just hitting me "what am I now?" for 15 years it was always I am a soldier, I am a Captain, Major etc, I was proud to introduce myself as an infantry officer in the British army and then suddenly I wasn't anymore, I was nothing, I was just normal like everyone else or maybe less than that. Was a weird feeling

Recently discovered Seal Team and cautiously watched the first few episodes, expecting to quickly turn it off if it was graphic or glorified war. Well, of course that didn't happen and I binge watched all four seasons, as I because hooked on the characters and their very real stories, interactions and development. Season Four dealt with real issues and I was afraid they would turn into cliches, but of course that's not what happened and it was still story/character centered. Well done and thank you! Definitely needed to make the whole team more in-depth with all characters and not just the 4 main. It doesn’t make sense being that they’re a tier 1 unit. Biggest let down of the series.

An actual Delta operator wearing a Trident. What's the world coming to? Lol. Dude's a serious killer. Was kicking ass in Delta Force til he was blown up clearing a house in Iraq and nearly lost his arm.
