This just made me realize how I have been so strick to myself in the past 23 years. Now I think my inner coach should be a soulmate, but not someone who is always trying to push me so hard without a good attitude. Brett thank you so much!
You talk deserves more recognition. You not only present it well but also include steps on what to do to get there. Thanks and I appreciate what you shared! 👍💪
Absolutely fantastic! Our inner coach if trained correctly has the power to literally transform our lives. Going within on a daily basis and self analysing to identify what we did well and how we could improve is quite possibly one of the single best self help techniques available to us, and all we need is a pencil and paper. Great talk Brett, thank you!
Never thought about the person who has helped and hindered me along the way....My inner coach, it's time we start to get to know each other better and I start treating you with more respect. Thank you for this life changing Ted Talk Brett Ledbetter.
As of the posting of this comment there are 3.1k thumbs up and 99 thumbs down. How after watching Brett’s talk can anyone give his talk a thumbs down? This is an excellent, concise and well thought out talk. I will definitely have my students watch Brett’s talk more than once. It’s that good! And I’ll be looking for more from Brett.
I really appreciate this piece of advice. Developing our inner coach will help us to grow ourselves by being self conscious about our nature, capabilities , willingness and goals. Very clear to understand! Just love it!
One of the best TED talks I’ve seen! This is information I can apply NOW, and it was just what I needed to hear. Anyone can apply this to whatever they want to do in life. Thank you!
That was a very good talk. Honestly, I think Brett distilled the essence of countless self-help books and programs. Will definitely apply this to my life.
Loved this talk. As a mindful life & leadership coach I tweak the list on both sides: Smart mindful work, mindful collaboration, team building, inspired actions, wise reflections. Cultivating awareness of personal leadership ethics and the virtue of non-harm with ones own body, mind, speech develops the inner coach.
I have been struggling with a whole suite of negative thoughts that have stifled loads of ambitions that I have. This simple message has really rung the epiphany bell in my internal monologue. I can’t tell you how good that feels! Thank you so much for this presentation. I can’t wait to peel back all these layers of bad inner coach and start my rebuild.
Maybe, the greatest video I’ve ever seen. It’s “Brad Stevens” that hooked me…but then, Brett started taking about Character. Celtics Fans are lucky 🍀 to have Brad…
just amazing talk. you wraped it up all in one punch! everything is just there in those 15 minutes.....Focus on the process--Period...... Thank You Brett.
As a youth and adult rowing coach and club captain, this video was perfect. I totally agree and I particularly like the idea of focusing on the goal and working backwards to understand the necessary steps to put in place. Thank you for sharing Brett
Great talk. This is what the Dilbert comic guy talked about in his book How to Fail at Everything and Still Win big. Focus on establishing a good system, a.k.a the process, instead of goals.
I have to etch it on my heart by watching it on repeat...what a marvellous video with such a profound & relevant message. I feel lucky to have come across 👌🤩
Thank you Brett. Let me explain . I was hired as a new high school softball coach. The team was the bottom of their conference but the talent was there in 2016. I got to use your Character-Process- Result philosophy in my 1st year and found the team competing for a District Title . During the District title game we found ourselves with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning against our district power house. There was a runner on 1st base and the score was 3-1 in our favor. I was pacing back and forth in the dug out when the runner on first was up to bat and watched her obtain 1st base with a blazing base hit. I said to myself how do I take control of the situation. Well I remember the basketball clip you showed and I sat back down on the bucket and watch our pitcher strike out their lead off hitter looking. We won the district championship and I must accredit you and these videos as being a hidden driven force behind the success of our team this year. Their Character drove their practices (The PROCESS) and the end result was much more than the goal they originally set for themselves.
This is an amazing presentation. In a short time, Brett is teaching us the true foundation of success. Even though it is referring to sport, this can apply to life in general. Great presenter, great topic, great point (character and process build success).
Awesome message! One of the best motivational video. Once we start focusing on the process and what we can control we can be in peace irrespective of our result.
Great content, excellent examples and clear illustration of why process is so important than result. I enjoyed watching this TED talk. I will implement what I learnt through this talk. Thanks Brett !!
Very inspiring how you connect building your inner coach with basketball! Especially as it gave me renewed awareness of the coaching lessons I indeed picked up through the game of basketball... Thank you!
What a great talk. I coach CYO volleyball . I always start my practices with what went wrong (lost game) or what went right (we won game). Really enjoyed this ted talk.
Great talk! This illustrates beautifully what I believe to be true. Focus less on results and more on the process, which is driven by character. Everyone can benefit from this and sports coaches in particular! Loved the coach here who doesn't "go crazy" when things go wrong, and doesn't get all puffed up when they win.
Hello! Great talk! Would it be possible to have the transcription or the subtitles in Spanish? This would be so valuable for so many people in Latinamerica and Spain!
Sports is an easy analogy. It’s easy to be competitive playing a game with a very rigid set of rules. The outcome is there. Being competitive in let’s say a a group of sales representatives where there is more psychological ambiguity…that’s different.
This just made me realize how I have been so strick to myself in the past 23 years.
Now I think my inner coach should be a soulmate, but not someone who is always trying to push me so hard without a good attitude.

Thank you, this talk is the one i'm looking for for a longtime. One of the best Ted talk
This is by far the best ted talk I have seen in a while. A lot of talks are too conceptual for me and this is on a very practical level
Great point Matt! I couldn't agree with you more.
Absolutely! I’m driving and listening and it’s getting the job done for me mentally. On top of that, I’m a new coach. I’m this is perfect.
Totally agree.
I just fired my inner coach. Replaced him with another one who has the right attitude.
how did he do his job the last 10 months?
When you are able to hire him again! then you will know you had learnt the battle
Well said 😂 👍
Hahaha! I love this
Going through my 5th coach this week….🥴😬

Its called "Jaded". After 30,000 basketball games its kind of hard to get emotional.
