You should watch the show. When you start hearing her playing victim next time, you will stop pitying her and realize she's a liar and he wrote her EXACTLY as she is, to a degree that is nothing short of hilarious. We only have her word that she's being harassed; I will not believe it without receipts, not even in a world like this. Notice she's like, "no, no, he's stalking ME now by writing this! I'm the victim, me me me!" Do not fall for her minimization and victim-blaming. Watch the show, then read the quotes. I was laughing my ass off the more I listened to her because it's clearly so accurate: she just couldn't help herself. If she'd kept silent I doubt anyone would've gone looking but she just HAD to threaten to sue.

This isn't a fucking scavenger hunt or puzzle, these are people's lives and if they wanted the public to know, they would have voluntarily divulged that information to begin with. Or even if they wanted to, but can't, there's a *reason* it's something the public isn't entitled to because there's laws protecting people (as there should be).

Even though it is rare there is already a stigma of people not believing victims and thinking things are false accusations. This only gets worse when everyone has this victim mentality but also want to live as if they are actually enjoying the thing that made them a victim. Saying you are assaulted and saying you are a victim doesn't make it true. A story like this takes away from true victims of sexual assault who have actual scars that prevent them from enjoying aspects of their lives and having emotional connections. There’s a documentary called “Water & Power: A California Heist” that revealed that Wonderful, through shady backroom dealings, gained ownership of like 80% of the Central Valley’s groundwater supply amidst the decades long drought. So while families in cities like Porterville had no running water and had to shower and cook with bottled water, the Wonderful owned farms around them got to spray water all day long. And I don’t remember the specifics but Wonderful did something that ended up contaminating all the water in Lost Hills with arsenic, again, while we were in a drought. They can build as many parks and as many “Wonderful Academy” schools as they want but they’re a shady ass company and I find it very hard to trust anything they say. Not all unions are good, but that does mean if you're in a not great union you can vote to make it better. Still, while I fully agree unions are good, people still deserve the right to decide if they want to be in one. If they vote no I'd think that's a poor choice, but that is their prerogative. I support workers voting to unionize but they should be aware that they are, in fact, voting to unionize.

For the situation with the UFW, I can 100% believe that the people now saying they were mislead by UFW were not in fact mislead. From personal experience, I was part of an effort to unionize warehouse workers on the east coast before COVID. We sat everyone down and explained the pro's and con's of being part of a union. The company (it was a major brand company) brought in a company to help them bust the unionization attempt, and let me tell you a lot of people who were stoked on the idea of being part of a union turned into fear of being part of one. One of the lies they told was that "if the union forces the company to increase wages to what they consider 'livable wages', the company is going to have to do major layoffs, and most of you won't have a job."
We lost, and folks like me who pushed for unionization were basically pushed to quit or they used the flimsiest reasons to fire people where they could stop a person from getting unemployment.

As someone who has spent a long time analyzing language (I worked in communications for years) context and the whole are very important. A lot of people seem to grab hold of one line and not really appreciate that meaning is more than the sentence they are reading. For this reason I tend to ignore people analyzing singular lines of music as most people don't know how to appreciate the whole, and they often express they are actually taking the whole into account when they actually are. You see this in replies to comments on RUclips all the time, someone jumps on one statement and ignores the overall message.

The part that I find upsetting about the Baby Reindeer story is that it ultimately reveals how victims of abuse and harassment can continue to be victimised by both their assailant and even strangers who otherwise claim to mean well. Gadd didn't tell that story so we could be internet detectives, and we should know better than to always need to know who victimised survivors for our own morbid curiosities. At the very least, we owe the people who experienced their abuse better than giving their attackers ammunition for getting back into those survivors' lives.
But the fact that his stalker would insist that she is the real victim (beside the fact that this woman we otherwise don't know is essentially confessing to having harassed and assaulted a man for months) only goes to show that she knows she can continue to harm him and is willing to continue doing so rather than take responsibility for her actions. She doesn't deserve the harassment she's been getting (and that's the fault of terrible audience members, not of Gadd's art), but at the end of the day she wouldn't be in the position she is in if she hadn't harmed Gadd, and not even being willing to take that into account is the sign of someone more than happy to keep victimising people rather than seek their own help. If she didn't want people to know what kind of person she is, then she should have started by not being that person.

Former SEIU organizer here. The California farm workers story really isn't surprising to me as field organizers who aren't senior leadership are ironically some of the most overworked, under appreciated and often exploited workers in the arena. This is because senior brass is typically more interested in racking up big wins in terms of organizing and power than the ethics of how such is done. Junior organizers are often pressured to do whatever it takes to get cards signed, provided the organizing campaign isn't a bluff to push bigger companies into playing ball. When bad acts like these are made public, it's always the organizer on the ground who takes the blame even when it's usually higher ups who demand it so they can buck for a better spot in the food chain. If you refuse to or fail to carry out their orders, that can mean anything from firing to redeployment to punishment campaigns that have no hope of succeeding (where again, the organizers take the blame) or are in brutally harsh conditions in the hopes that they'll just quit. Actually happened to me in 2011, so it's sad to see this kind of thing is still going on.

On the topic of Baby Reindeer I absolutely adored the show and how it portrayed how everyone has a role in being victims and aggressors in different lengths depending on the time and situation. It showed a lot of the messiness or dealing with broken people while being broken yourself, the harm in trying to chase dreams of what you want without knowing what you need and the raw utter confusion of not feeling like you have autonomy over yourself after losing your power to significant events of trauma. Despite being sad that the situations portrayed happened at all, especially to the writer himself, I am endlessly grateful he was able to turn it into art for the public to see. I just hope all parties involved receive the justice and healing they deserve, no one should have to continue to suffer after all that went down, modified or not a good portion was truly absolutely terrifying and heart wrenching.
If anyone wants to talk about certain scenes or share opinions on interpretations, please reply, I've been itching to talk to people about the show. Thank you for your time friends. :)

I'm really upset that people have taken it upon themselves to investigate the Baby Reindeer characters like this, the show was so incredibly well done and did a good job at challenging the perfect victim narrative. "Donny's" fauning response to his abusers is a real thing victims do that no one talks about. seeing him go back to his abuser and still feeling like it's not his fault made me feel like maybe it wasn't my fault either. can we please not make Gadd's life worse because he made good art that moved us, and instead appreciate it and move forward with what it taught us.

I had heard nothing about Netflix's Baby Reindeer until I watched today's episode. My biggest takeaway:
I *hate* how everyone has to turn into an investigative journalist when they watch a piece of art based on real life. Like, curiousity is one thing. But let people live their lives. If they haven't self-identified, or been identified *by the person who's sharing a piece of their life,* then leave it be.

People don't seem to realize that the only person who can take action is the victim who is being stalked. You can support them, you can help them, you can encourage them, but it's not up to you to hold them accountable - thats entirely up to the victim and the police. People need to take a massive step back and realize how big of an invasion of privacy it is to not only the stalker, but to Richard as well. Unless he specifically asks for your help, he doesn't want it and you need to back off

@@AfianySnow29802 it's only too late if people don't learn. It's a bad situation that was handled poorly on both sides - how can you make a character with so much similarity and expect people not to find her? That's incredibly irresponsible of Richard to have done, and especially for Netflix's HR team to allow through. It's also genuinely terrifying to be stalked, and that woman should feel genuinely ashamed of herself, but it's clear she isn't.

Baby reindeer was just something I put on in the background while cleaning my room one sunday. Then I watched the entire show. It just kept getting more interesting! the writing was well thought out and very engaging, it had you asking questions and waiting for things to happen. I really enjoyed Martha’s character. It was profound how sick you were of her but at the same time you couldn’t help but empathize with her vulnerable position. He did a phenomenal job at making the audience feel things through the main characters perspectives. Great watch, jarring at times, not for the faint of heart, but very refreshing in this world of remakes and prequels.
Edit: I have to say something about the real world aftermath-having an interesting unintentional impact to make this show that more real and intense. By defending herself she also outted herself in a way which kind of completed the circle and let all the puzzle pieces fit.

I've watched Baby Reindeer and give it an 8/10. I found the actions of the main character to be eerily relatable unlike my friends who dispise and vilify him for being weak. The main character undoubtedly is weak willed and self destructive but trauma changes people and often abuse survivors do things that even they themselves know is wrong and destructive but can't stop themselves.

I think it’s very disgusting how often we speak of how women aren’t protected from abuse and violence but we never address how very little Male victims are protected.
I had to call the police on my ex 3 times and despite very clear attack marks on my face and neck the police just asked “well why didn’t you just admit to leaving the food out?” (I was punched, scratched and kicked out of my sleep because she thought I left her cat’s food out to be eaten by my cat) I had to file multiple complaints against those officers and threaten a lawsuit for them to remove her from my house

Although I do think we need to speak about male victims, speaking about women’s issues doesn’t correlate to women receiving any protection. And not to discredit or make your story seem less important but the reason why people tend to speak about women’s abuses is because it is literally systemic. There are entire countries whose cultures permit and allow for the abuse, grape and murder of women. So women don’t have it any better than what you went through.

Hearing that Martha is now wanting to sue Gadd is crazy as well! Like, he didn't use your real name in the show and anybody who figured it out definitely didn't hear from Gadd to contact you so good luck suing him and winning...clearly the psycho stalker doesn't think things through first🤣
