We're so fortunate that a pro like Lionel is willing to share this level of detail. Love his vids. All the best for the race.
Agreed
Excellent video, I appreciate that you've broken down the weeks before and taper week. I've never witnessed a pro giving such detail, Thanks a lot.
It wouldn't be a Lionel video if we didn't remind the body of something 😀.
Great video. Great detail.
more of this please, this is great. all the best for the race
Lionel, can you post your activation/strength exercise please?
this
Love the detail. Great color and keep this level of detail coming. I’ll be out there with you on iwlq. Best of luck.
I laughted so hard at 8:52 with the guy holding his breath watching you
@agustin Romeo. Hahaha wtf is he doing. Looks like a cartoon character
Been waiting and looking for such a detailed taper for years. Thanks for the clarity
1:05 awesome! Glad to hear you are taking the time to look after your body
Simply love it! Anything you put out is a must watch for me!
Good luck in the race!
Nice video Lionel, always an inspiration for a triathlete like me trying to get faster and train smarter!
Race like you stole it! You're AWESOME!
Hours away from your 70.3 start. Release the beast tomorrow. ✌️🇨🇦✌️
Hello Lionel. It was a pleasure meeting you today and chatting with you at La Quinta. As I told you I started training and learning how to swim and training for a triathalon 4 months ago after coming back from a business trip with pneumonia. It was time for a change. Since then I only drink on special occasions and have been working towards the race tomorrow. Good luck tomorrow and see you at the finish line!
Awesome stuff. Have a great race
Drink on special occasions? So you only put poison into your body during important events, makes sense! Bro drinking is a total waste of time and horrible for you. You need to change your mentality
@@timob12 wow you must be fun at parties. He's not going to become an alcoholic from a drink every few months. Jesus you need to relax
@@IzzysRevenge I have great fun just don't have your typical average unsophisticated mentality. Alcohol is for people afraid to face life
@Tim O’Brien. I agree with what you are saying but your message is pretty heavy handed for the comment. What I’ve found about triathlon training and alcohol is that the times when I used to drink or be hungover I’m now training (mornings and evenings) so it doesn’t leave any time for drinking. Then when I do have time I find it’s just not worth it because of the way it hurts the body and mind. . I enjoy my days too much now to waste them on my nights.
Well the Taper worked, great win at IW. But man can't wait to hear about his swim not an ideal time.
Best vid ever!! Always great to hear from you!! Good luck!!
8:52 bloke in the background :D
Lmaoo what is he doing?

Your tapering is my build-up for a race :D
Quality content. Thanks a lot. And congrats for the win in Indian Wells. 2020 can come - a year with a working plan.
All you Zwifters out there. You should follow Lionel och Zwift Companion. He is a f#cking beast.
Thx Lionel. Very informative! Will def apply some of this next race
Great Video. I would like to see more like this
Very informative video Lionel. Thank you for sharing! Good luck during the Race! Guy
14:28 :)))) Thanks for sharing, great video! GOOD LUCK ON SUNDAY!!!
Great video Lionel. Well done on the win 💪🏼
Thanks a lot for everything, you influenced a major part of my life.
I know you guys have to do it for the sponsors and stuff but as a viewer HOW GOOD it is to have you back talking about your POV on training without 95% of the video being these super fancy drone view etc... Sorry !!
Fantastic insights. Thanks Lionel. 👍
32 minute 10K - these numbers are just unreal
His aerobic engine is incredible considering he's hit 30 flats before.
keep it up Colonel
Good luck Lionel, I'll be tracking your numbers from home throughout the race. You'll crush it 👍
Well done LS! Good luck tomorrow man
Best of luck Lionel 💪
Thanks for sharing
Watch tinkering with the grade on the treadmill - prolonged continuous use at grade can result in Achilles issues.
Kris Hartner great point 👍
Meaning don’t run at 1% or don’t run at 0%? ;
Leave at zero. The whole 1% thing is a complete wives tale. Yes, there is no wind resistance on a treadmill, but there are other things that make it harder - no cooling effect, no proprioceptive movement. Any continuous grade like that - especially if you’re 35+, can be risky on the rear lower leg. The whole Orange Theory all at grade thing - they should research what that’s doing to injury rates among non-young participants.
Clear and interesting 👍👌 thx
Thank you so much for sharing !! Really interesting
Must.. get.. freshii.... 😳
U R A CHAMP !!!
Giddy up! Thanks for the inspiration.
We used to taper 5 weeks out for Nationals (swimming) but we swam 90-100k back then... most of the 10k guys don't go over 80k now days... the expression our coach used in the final week... "The hay is in the barn" you won't get fitter.
Thx Lionel!!! Go get em!! And check your shifter!! ;)
Good luck in race ! If your on your way home to Tucson and stop in Blythe , come to Blythe Dental Center and say hi. Or get your teeth checked and cleaned. Lol
good luck lionel!
What's your take on the Norwegian banging out 3:25 in Bahrain Kristian Blummenfelt. 1:10s/100m in SWIM - 48KM/HR on BIKE and 5:07/Mile RUNNING like what's going on in Norway?
Shane Lavell- BREAKING 9 Lots and lots of low intensity volume for the Norwegian guys. Pretty crazy what they are churning out as of late!
That race in general was insanely fast. 50-54 AG were doing under 4:15
@@rogerc23 FACK
@Shane Lavell- BREAKING 9. Tell me about it. The bike times were super fast not sure if it was a tailwind the whole way or what lol.
@@rogerc23 Bike course is out and back with a little loop only chance for that is if the wind perfectly shifted lol ironman.sportsengine-prelive.com/im703-bahrain-course
Are all tapers created equal by discipline? I am assuming they look different based on impact to the body (IE Running). Btw, nice W at 70.3 Indian Wells.
Edit: I caught you talking about it.
Great video and information!
Love you bro
U can link intervals.icu to strava for tss and form 😎
Great insight 👍🏻
Good luck tomorrow!
Thanks 🦁 This is helpful!
Great Video Lionel, as always.
Enjoy the race.
Just wondering, would you not benefit from doing some of your swimming in your swim suit during the week before a competition in which you know you will use it ?
I do find that my swimming differs a bit (with vs without) due to my “less free” shoulders and that I activate less my legs (thx neoprene for helping). Hence I feel it useful to swim with my suit for the start of my swimming trainings (also doing sprints and high end speed with it) during my taper week
Tell me what you think about it :)
If it works for you then definitely do it.
Aren’t you doing Daytona also? Next weekend.
GET SOME!!!!
hi lionel, would you mind sharing what type of form in TP you like to race in, i've see people race in 5-10 form but others says that more like 20. just wondering what is your personal opinion.
Has anyone mentioned the use of the heads up display swim goggles? Who’s tried em?
Right? I was like wait is that.... wait.....
Give 'em hell!
Do you plan to run any full IronMan’s in 2020 ?
this type of video is much better! more detail on specific training and raw talks, less Talbot kids bop, deep rave music
And....✔
👏👏👏
so much racing...
Unmmm you do know he is a pro triathlete and racing is his work right?
LSanders tapering? are you sure?

Sadly, it doesn't seem like you are utilizing your coach. As you are again dictating your own training schedule - is it not the purpose of you getting Dave back on board to have him direct your training program?
Huh? He stated that David added the activation drills into the block, so it stands to reason David oversaw the block and Lionel is working under his watch.
hagakuru he is following what his coach sets
A good coach will also factor in what works for the athlete
Lionel has already said what sort of taper works so that’s what the coach went with
