Just a couple of things that I do differently - (1) I never place my hands at 10 and 2 when removing a tire. If the car shifts and falls, it can trap your hands between the fender and the wheel. I place my hands at 8 and 4 to remove or replace the wheel. (2) Also, I never use anything other than my fingers to start threading the nut back on, as a mechanical tool can cross-thread a bolt/stud in an instant, and then you have a big problem.
Otherwise, nice video and you did a good job explaining things. I'm like many others though, and just let the dealer/mechanic rotate the tires.

I agree with your comment. I would add it’s also easier (more effective) to test front end tightness with the wheel on. Checking wheel bearing play/run out with your hands on the rotor seems pointless. Especially when you’re tugging on the backing plate. Finally, no harm in running up your torque in two (or three) stages (depending on what you’re achieving). Thanks for sharing.

Very well done, Dave! As an "old" racer, myself, I have changed thousands of wheels and can appreciate that you know what you are talking about.

The best Tesla video for rotating tires! You’re an excellent teacher & ❤ your dogs trying to get into the spotlight 😂

Great presentation. I chose the lazy route and drove to my local Discount Tire where they rotated the tires for free. Free coffee while I waited, too.

    Excellent presentation of tire rotation.
After getting older with more responsibilities, I discovered it was faster and less effort to have a tire store rotate my tires. Many stores will do it for free if you bought the tires from them. Before investing in all the tools Dave used, determine how often you will use them. Good tools are not cheap.

I think I agree also. However, I may buy many of the tools (floor jack, breaker bar, torque wrench, sockets) since I know there will come a time when a tire needs to be removed/replaced. I will pay attention to the Harbor Freight ads I get to acquire the tools.

Can you just you a single jack? At least with gas cars I've rotated tires, you can usually lift both wheels on the same side with one jack.

  • @HowToDoitright

I don’t understand one thing. Initially why did you jack the two front side snd then move one front to back snd did the sides only. What was the point of jacking up the other front end?

Should probably use jack stands. The manual for your jack probably says the same.
I wish I was able to rotate the tires on my X myself. I swap between winter and summer wheels myself, but removing tires and remounting them sounds like a pita.

Whats the benefit if doing this, you still end up changing tyres as frequently as not rotating them. Its a choice of either changing 4 less frequently or 2 more frequently, over time its the same thing.

This is one question I asked myself. Do I need to rotate my tires on my Tesla model 3. Since a gas car has a heavy engine and trans in the front of the car (front wheel drive). These conventional cars need tire rotation. Since my model 3 rear wheel drive has a motor the size of a large water Mellon I never rotated my wheels. Since the weight of the car is pretty well balanced front to rear. My car has about 22K miles on it, and all tires wore evenly and will soon need to be changed, but again the wear is just about the same all around. So in my opinion wheel rotation is not necessary on a Model 3. I’m not sure about a Model X or S. Please ask Tesla what they recommend.

Front tires always wear more than the rears due to turning.

    • @evdave528
      @evdave528  3 года назад +1

The front tires wear more due to turning, I think it’s good to rotate

@@evdave528 I did rotated once at 5K miles. I now have 23K miles on the original tires, they are all evenly worn to the inner wear bars now. I don’t think it’s necessary to ever rotate the tires on a Tesla Model 3. Thank you.

This is helpful. With less than 7,000 miles on my brand new Tesla Model Y I took my car to have my tires rotated. To my alarm, the inside tread on the front tires were bald and would not pass the state inspection. It was clear that Tesla delivered the car without aligning the tires. I notified Tesla in Peabody believing that this was clearly a warranty issue. His reply: Good Afternoon John,
This is Blake from Tesla Service in Peabody. Unfortunately, both alignments and tires are not covered under your vehicle warranty as they are a wear and tear item.
There are many factors which contribute to a vehicle's alignment which could have led to the kind of wear in the photos.
We can keep the appointment for the 3rd at this time so that we can order 4 new tires if you wish. We can send you the estimate for them and the alignment through the app or I can attach it to this email if you prefer.

I think you need to talk with them again, if you noticed no pulling in the wheel and itit drove straight from the beginning then they should cover it. If it pulled when you picked it up you should have had them fix it.
