I headed out with my dog in our BIKE CAMPER on one of the coldest days of the winter to see if it can hold up in harsh temperatures! We light the wood stove and bundle up for a frigid day and night of winter camping.

We have been there. Just reading this makes me tear up. Crazy how we miss them so bad. We just gotta move along and enjoy memories and get another puppy! We got 2 after our 13 yo standard poodle passed. Now gonna have twice heart break someday but it worth it! Carry on!

Ellie wears the boots naturally. My dog rips off his shoes when I walk him on the hot ground. Here in the summer we have 104ºF.

My favorite shot was the sun peeking through the pine trees-stunning! I loved the look on Ellie’s face when she found that bone. She looked so warm and comfy in her sleeping bag. That would be a great video, tent camping among all those beautiful pine trees!

It looked so cosy with wood burner but still cold. Canned soup is perfect for warming your tummy. Its about conserving energy.

Glad to see you're not afraid of camping out in the frigid temps of a Minnesota winter. That little wood stove is such a game changer. Such a great site to enjoy in all 4 seasons. The pines planted in rows make for such a scenic and orderly display. Ellie looks so cute in her winter booties and jacket and bundled up in her cozy sleeping bag. The veggie burrito looked good. How'd those heated gloves work out for you? 🔥🙏

He is having fun! He is a nice sole who will figure it all out on his own…
One thing to consider though is that if you insulated the wall you would need interior sheeting and that would start to add quite a bit of weight. That may or may not be a deal breaker but it is a consideration.
Also if you wanna use the wood stove you would need to take that into consideration too and somwhat fireproof the place.

Thanks for producing yet another great video for us Jack, I was gripped throughout. There's something magical about Winter camping adventures in nature, in dramatic, sub zero temperatures. Truly enthralling!
Your gift for creating warm, cosy habitats in the most hostile of environments, and indeed in the humblest of overnight shelters, is really impressive. Recent improvements to the bike cabin with the wood burner have been a great success. It's amazing you can cook a hot meal in that compact space, as well as enjoying a cosy night's sleep (despite your canine companion's penchant for sleeping in the starfish position, lol!)
I just loved Ellie's cold weather long-johns and cute booties. My tiny dog loved sleeping in Winter long-johns, but she wouldn't tolerate footwear at all. The little madam walked backwards in endless circles, till I relented and took the offending dog-boots' off her!
Ellie's such a good girl to put up with those paw protectors - all in a good cause. I bet they keep her vulnerable paw-pads warm, dry and frostbite-free, even on the longest hikes over ice and snow.
You could see she was the original snug-bug-in-a-rug in her canine sleeping bag too. That both man and dog get such obvious rewards from these trips, makes them extra special to watch.

The stove will draw in cold air! You need two pipes equal length under the cabin, joined by a Y fitting to one pipe which feeds the cold air directly to the stove air intake. Also make a ‘Fan’ out of cardboard to waft the warm air down to the cold air by your feet or a heat operated Stirling Engine stove fan pointing down to mix the air.
Thanks for the tips! It’s been heating the space quite well but those ideas would help a lot 👍🏽
@@TinyCabinLife The two pipes need to take air from opposite sides of the cabin to cancel air pressure changes caused by wind which could make smoke blow back from the stove. The Stirling Engine stove fans have a magnetic base usually but you could make a wedge of iron or steel to put under it to angle the fan down more. I would make a wire mesh fire guard too to stop you burning your sleeping bag or yourself. I’d be heating rocks around the fire (not too hot) then roll them under the cabin to warm up the floor! 👍

I find it really calm full and relax full to see you having a good time with your sweet and good dog. I had a dog the Bordeaux with the same personality, even strangers saw us and told me that we were one, this without even talking to them. I still miss him, it has been almost 8 years since he crossed the rainbow bridge. Now I'm a married man, trying to get a Labrador with my wife to start a new bond with an animal, not like with my old dog, since I can't replace him.

I thought of one way for you to get more storage in your little bikabin, you could get a few of those storage organizers that people hang behind their doors or use as a way for them to take things with them when traveling.
I have several small ones that I got from the Dollarama that I use for various things like any jewellery I want to take with me when travelling, craft supplies like scissors and so on.
Right now I am using one for my camping stuff, the little things that would be easy to loose in a tote bag or back pack.
You can just screw a few hooks into the walls and hang them from there so you will have some stuff within easy reach if need be.
Another idea is to stretch a little ‘net’ across the ceiling of your bikabin further down so you can store ‘soft items’ there, like socks and other things.
My only complaint so far about the bikabin, is that it could be a little taller on one end. I say this because I am slightly claustrophobic, so need to have more head space while sitting up.
I like your way of camping. It's plain, quiet, simple, cozy and comfortable when you get it warmed up inside.
