The fact that the airline could dispatch a heavy jet on a 6 hour plus sector without a serviceable autopilot is unacceptable. The MEL should have disallowed this.

Why did either one of the planes not turn course and get out of the line of impact? This is weird, you would figure one of them pilots would say turn and climb and not stay straight on a collision course. Such a shame.

At the speeds jets travel, there isn’t time to change course between seeing another plane through the windscreen, and hitting it. So commercial pilots are trained to *never* change heading without direction by ATC. It’s not even presented as an option. And pilots are trained to *react* in specific ways during a crisis… thinking takes too long. There was less than 2 minutes between either plane becoming aware of the other. And about 45 seconds between the order from ATC and the crash. The pilots were doing what they were trained to do, unfortunately, that training conflicted as to weather to follow instructions from ATC or TCAS (which had only been required in planes for around ~2 years at the time… most pilots had never heard the warnings outside of simulator training).

With all due respect my gut instinct would have been I am NOT flying directly at another aircraft im gonna turn away and listen to the TCAS idc what im trained to do, in that particular situation turning away and pulling up would have save everyones life@@LeighsLittleLife

@@jjstevenz if you follow your gut instinct in flight school, you’re not going to be a commercial pilot. Many of the things you have to do to fly safely feel wrong in the moment (like pushing down into a stall instead of trying to go higher). They’re not going to let you drive a hundred people around in a multimillion dollar vehicle if you ignore your training as soon as something is out of the ordinary.

Im not trying to be a pilot in flight school, im trying to save my passengers and the other peoples lives, you see from the video had they listened to thier first thought process and climb they woulda made it to their destination alive, all of them. You dont fly straight into another plane whats wrong with you lol. Sometimes the book is wrong because it cant predict what others will do, but YOU can. @@LeighsLittleLife

Look how close that was from not being a disaster, youre telling me a slight deviation to the right or left wouldnt have prevented that???@@LeighsLittleLife

It seems like we each have a personal appointment with death and this cannot be avoided. Eternal life is found in the death, burial, and resurrection of God's dear Jesus Christ the Savior. God loves the world and sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. Call upon the name of Jesus and be saved.
