I feel sorry for what he went through and no doubt he truly believes the fire was caused by duty free alcohol but I seriously doubt his conclusion. The post crash fire was very typical and almost certainly caused by ruptured fuel tanks and the flammable materials in the interior. The alcohol in the form of bottles of spirits would have been largely irrelevant to the outcome.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of this accident was the captain's failure to adequately brief and execute the non-precision approach and the first officer's and flight engineer's failure to effectively monitor and cross-check the captain's execution of the approach.

To think you are in an airliner cabin suddenly something goes wrong and the pilots can't figure out how to fix it on time because you are spinning out of control upside down.

And as usual, nothing was done to remedy the alcohol presence, and as usual, the EFFING DRUNKS are more important than the safety of the passengers. It's disgusting that an individual cannot go a few hours without a drink of booze. Obviously, the duty free products were not being consumed by passengers, to be fair. However if someone can afford to buy that poison in another country to take it home with them, then they can damned sure afford to have it shipped there rather than taking it on the flight back. And if not, then maybe consider leaving it where you found it.

@Rosco-P.Coldchain You are correct, and I understand your point. And it is a very good point, too. I blame the airlines for serving alcohol on flights 100%. Often, it's the reason many flipped out passengers cause a disturbance in flight. The FAA should yank the alcohol from airlines. If a person cannot wait a few hours between drinks, then they obviously have an addiction issue.
