- Interesante, magistral e inspiracional interpretación del clásico espiritual. Lo que ocurre a partir del 6:38 es, simplemente, la extensión del alma de los interpretes. Celebrable!
I hit like because I couldn't find anything that said love.

11 musicians played sublime music to whisk me outta here
Thank You Jesus
The best interpretation of this gospel classic that I've heard in my 75 years. What a great group of musicians.
Amazing, what a great group. The Chris Barber Band also did a terrific rendition of this (ruclips.net/video/dq6E_D20538/видео.html)
Praise God 🙏
Everytime I hear this BEAUTIFUL HYMN my 73yr old BRAIN Craves more to visit NEW ORLEANS Thanks For Sharing. Beautiful Rendition
Me too. 73yo.
Just wonderful, uplifting music in a world of noise!
Yes the same for me too!
What an orchestration !
Thank you Mr Clapton. For being you.
Taj MAhal has the true spirit of the tune. This music was born in New Orleans I am proud to say. ....my birthplace.
Every time I play this 'my soul is refreshed'. The drum solo is outstanding.
Agreed. The drum solo is amazing . Instead of just banging out a loud show-off type of drumming, he skillfully transitions the gospel classic from its slow "piano" beginning to the "allegro" quick dixie style uplifting finale.
Bravo.
Well spoken sir. One seldom finds ' musical jewels' of this magnitude.
Mine too , definitely brings me back to my louisiana roots this song is the number one sing used in Jazz funerals here I. New Orleans
Play this over my grave, PLEASE!
❤ Welterusten voor straks , slaap lekker morgen gezond weer op , dan ben je rijk ❤🇳🇱🙏🇺🇲🌏😘👋
❤ SENSATIONAL AWESOME BEAUTIFUL HEAVENLY AMAZING WONDERFUL 👍😊 THE VERY BEST IN THE WORLD 🌍 SIMPLY! 🙏 THANKS.
Gospel soul music is a gift to mankind from heaven, I love this so much

An old recording, Gospel, how out of sync with this world. This my friends is how the real stuff prevails.
I bet that Clapton considers this performance one of the tops in his career. Not being his main style, it must have fulfilled his aspirations of playing black music, the very reason he became a pro. I can see him thinking "look at me surrounded by 7 black jazz musicians. This is it, I made it."
I totally agree 1000 times ___ I saw the same thing. I think however rather than playing with black musicians he is in awe of playing with an all star team. ___ his smile at the end says it all ____ wonderful moment ___
There's a certain validity to your point. I 'made it' in 1965 when I wandered into the Continental Club in 3rd ward in Houston and met Spookey Dancye (Hammond B-3) Ronald Wynn (drums) and Horace Grigsby(vocals.) I worked with those guys, and a good many other notable Houston black musicians until 1968. After the MLK assassination, I found The Old Quarter in downtown Houston and started doing solo gigs there. I did tunes like 'Work Song' and 'God Bless the Child,' which the mostly white clientele had never heard. Still, I never felt like I had 'made it.' I was just a playing bum trying to supplement my meager day gig pay (In 1965, my salary as a first-year teacher was $4590, but everyone knew that the pay scale was set up for women whose husbands worked at Exxon or the like.) I remember those days, and I'm thankful to those black musicians for helping me, mainly by being tolerant and kind.
But it's not a great version. Too slow and not the normal style of Winton Marshal's.
It’s supposed to be played slow at the beginning (this being the traditional style of New Orleans funeral procession), and after the drum 🥁 solo it picks up. It symbolizes the sorrow of losing a loved one to a celebratory ending knowing that that loved one is no longer in pain but in the arms of Jesus. 🎉 perfect interpretation of this old hymn
I’m breathless… That was a great arrangement… And such talent! Thank you Wynton Marsalis ❤ Thank you Wynton Marsalis ❤
i bet clapton thinks he's died and gone to heaven. playing with this mob. he's having such a blast and feels so at home .a long way from cream .
Taj is one of the most overlooked rock/blues performers evah! Give him all the credit you can.
Sweet Jesus Let it be!
I have been a huge fan of his for decades, couldn't agree more.
@@davewintersIcicledave His double album "Giant Steps/De Ole Folks at Home" is a true classic. down-home blues on one disc, hard core rodk on the other (most soulful version of "Six Days on the Road" you will ever hear)
I'm satisfies and tickled too....

WOW, UNBELIEVABLE !!!!! A traditional masterpiece played by Masters
Perfect performance by drummer Mr ALI JACKSON 👍👍👍👍👍
Musicians far beyond categories !!!!!!!
This gig was special, Clapton plays best when he takes on projects that push him beyond his own comfort zones.
great group ,singer, drummer. This song is what all of us need at this time the way the world is going . we need this song , Just a closer walk with thee.
and a good old boogie down @8:29 :D
Best version I have ever heard!
Truly love the 2 part symbolism of this song. First part reflects the sadness of the love one leaving us and the the last part is the celebration of the loved one being received into the arms of our lord!

It doesn't get any better than this! I keep it on my desktop where I can listen to it as I want. Music at its finest.
I love the way the trombone seems to play off from Taj's vocals and then makes the solo his own.

What a thrill! That was a treat! What an amazing group of musicians. Bravo
You said it for me❤
PLEASE credit Taj in the title - he is after all the lead.
Yes!
Yes! Please!
One of the greatest New Orleans Dixieland jazz numbers ever played on this planet starts off very slow, then accelerates into a wild finish; but you have to listen to the entire piece to the end.
Yes, see comments from 2yrs ago. 1 yr, 6months - can't be edited?! C'mon!
Taj is The big máster ! Es el gran chamán !
They went out and found the world’s greatest drummer.
I love the drummer too, everyone in the band was with him!
@@normpeplow3813 I am usually pretty critical when hearing a drum solo, but right when he started, I knew I was in for a different kind of solo and he really let go. When the rest of the band came in I was thinking if you just sat there and didn't get that urge to move there is something wrong. Fantastic solo, beautiful group. Wow!
Eric Clapton in suit and tie.... never saw that before!
This is the best version ever! It stirs my soul! What a treat to my ears
I hear this at such an emotional level that I do not have the words to describe it..thank you all..Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton together You are magical.
🌸💞🪄🤯
Concordo plenamente.

❤❤❤😢 Fantastic version the Best Gospel , fantastic voici, and choristes, " mercy mercy mercy !!!!!!!" Fred/Nice/France
Two of the most super talented musicians together brings tears to my eyes as God listens.
Hi Barbara💐💐
My old dad has been gone now 30 years or so, and how he loved Dixieland type jazz. I hope he’s hearing this, ‘cause I sho likes it.
Superbe, magnifique, un super moment de délice, merci à vous les musiciens de le partager avec nous.....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for a very special version of this song. Taj and Eric just add something extra to the wonderful Wynton Marsalis and his gifted band.
Ali Jackson’s two minute solo was magnificent.
Honestly the best music that we got on RUclips
No one performs a song like this group as done it! Fabulous mix of instruments and great vocal was outstanding! Depth of souls on display here!
Thank you, New Orleans, for sharing with the world this beautiful beautiful way for your sons and daughters to take that step into the light. It is truly a celebration of life.
Both their life and ours. A dirge on the way to the burial to grieve, then swing on the way back to make us smile and remind us that happy times will come as life goes on. As you say: Beautiful.
It's like an Irish funeral, but with better music.
So I came across this concert on norwegian television broadcasting by coincidence.
And it blew me away.
what a performance by each and every one!!
This is just genius...I love the way they shaped this song...the song itself is great but with a New Orleans feel to it is just fantastic ..
you got that right Al, i just pray that our eyes and ears are opened to the majesty that we are witnessing so we can have the joy of fully appreciating it.it must be a profound humbling moment for clapton to be able to participate with muso's of this caliber .he looks like he's feeling at home ,with the people who make the music he's admired and been inspired by since he was a youngster.i bet he's dreamed of this day for many years.
@@flatoutt1 Man, that song was born in New Orleans.

This is fabulous............
Now this is a band!
One doesn't hear this kind of quality often.
And Taj Mahal when he sings, does so with such a penetrating soul....
I love this song
Lovely, simply Lovely nice 👌 👍 😊 😀 Tjerk van Seggelen, Mallorca Spain
WOW!! That must of been a pretty special night for those who attended.
Very soul searching! I love every note.
That clarinet part at 11:03 Is honestly the best sound I've ever heard!!!
Oh my God, yes...the clarinet is amazing...
If you can play in a well-seasoned Jazz band then, you can play very well. Well done, Eric Clapton.
clapton can't do jazz and his solo was not up to the standards of this ensemble!
@@anthonycrystal33 he played major and minor scales plus some chromatic phrases and arpegios. pretty much what everyone was playing. he showed control over every note on the changes like when the forth goes minor or the dominant. what are you talking about? should we follow your taste now?
@@wellington66440obviously Anthony is in a position of musical authority to tell us what and what isn’t pleasing to the ear . 😅
Glory to God for this unparalleled performance by exceptional artists.

Simply a wonderful piece --- so much soul ---- became a favorite from the first heard i heard it --- Wynton does such great stuff across all spectrums of American music -- viva New Orleans
❤😂
Ali Jackson demonstrates that you do not need to hit every bit of your kit to play a sublime solo.Bravo.
That's what makes him a master drummer!
THANKS - this old dame doesn't know much about music, but was trying to say that with a lot of words, and you said it with a few.
One of the best drum solos i;ve ever heard
@@kenny711 Absolutely!:)
Wooooo!
I loved this song in all its entirety.
It brings a teapot my eye thinking of all those dearly loved family an friends no longer here with us.
And I'm reminded of the time when I will be rejoicing wither in heaven.
Because of Eric I am a real fan of blues. Now because of him and Marsalis the jass is great
Absolutely fantastic! The best version I have ever heard.
louis armstrong and mahalia jackson 1970 newport jazz fest blows this away. find it here on youtube
This is incredible!
Check out Mahalia Jackson's life version 1964 in London. THAT is the best version of that song, ever. And Wynton Marsalis would agree. :-)
@@mehermusic2154 Those cannot be compared and can stand side by side, In Newport it was quasi an impressive solo by Mahalia Jackson and in London it was a marvelous band project!
Can't get this rendition of Just a Closer Walk off my mind - one of my All-time favorites! Tag Mahall Winton, Eric, & that wonderful drummer & entire band.
Ali Jackson is the drummer
I needed this on this day . Praise God !!!!
Best Ever.........Heaven will sound like this!!

They are all spectacular. Thanks so much for posting this rendition. Lifts the soul and gives hope in these dire times.
just caught this fabulous video,Eric Clapton doing what he obviously loves and a drum solo recalling the great Gene Krupa, all in all a very enjoyable video
Only problem is Krupa could duplicate this performance at his peak
Just so incredible, so brilliant. Can't remember the last time I heard Taj Mahal to be honest, but wow!
Peter Head just great !I Love this Song!
Unparalleled and unequalled rendition. Maestro vintage virtuoso!
The soul of a man comes out in music❤❤❤❤❤❤

Music can do things nothing else can do. This is a fine example.
Absolutely true and right on....
It heals the soul
beautiful
Most likely the best drum solo of our time. Great job.
They are the best and I listen to it over and over and I am blessed every time.
I feel so much emotion in this. Even when they are doing something like clapping their hands in time, you can tell that they love what they are doing
It's very committed to "the spiritual" type of music, right?
Te extraño compayito lloro por que fuiste mi hermano en todo
My oh my, now that takes me back... as an old preacher, I remember that song and the way they played it and my brother sang it. This song was also my grandfather Scott's favorite hymn. Great job to Wynton Marsalis, Eric Clapton and the rest of the band. Bravo!!
Oh!, good for you!... I´m happy for your feelings and memories. A hug! God bless you!
Tay Mahal is singing greatful........
Certainly the best version of this gospel with that of Mahalia Jackson. Magnificent solo from Eric Clapton as well as that of Ali Jackson and of course Winton Marsialis always excellent. Congratulations to all.

Stunning version. Just like 'old school'. Until part two that is, equally stunning.
The drummer always - always - gets the best licks.
