I wore one to my piano recital when I was 10 years old. As a Christian woman, I listen to this song quite often. It's the truth even today - hair or no hair! Praise God!!

My mom played the piano for their choir. Woman preacher. She passed the plate 3 times! Funniest thing I ever witnessed. The white folks left with empty pockets I guarantee! Old wood church with wood floors! When the congregation got going the whole building shook!

I went to this concert in 1970 with my parents. This was a birthday present for my mother. Mahalia brought down the house after Louis had song a couple of tunes.
Her voice was truly anointed by the Lord. She’s long gone but it still touches the soul. I love Mahalia Jackson because she not only loved the Lord but she made sure to live her life according to his principles. I recall doing a book report on her twenty-seven years ago in the tenth grade and that’s what stood out the most - her conviction to do the Lord’s work, and to use her voice only for it.

Ms. Jackson's presence is radiant, sincere, and loving. It offers a message to the world that pertains to us all. Yes, she was a follower of Christ. No, I am not, but I can feel in the song the power of her humanity.
I was a babe in my mother’s arms, when I heard her sing ‘Go, and tell it on the mountains’, on a family record, I never forgot how good I felt, I am now 74yrs old.

My Grandmother would take my sister and I into Harlem to the Harlem Film Festival and she was there. We were so close, I could have touched her, but her singing touched me immensely. I was only 11 years old then! I can still see her. Amazing time I had.

She's wearing a one of a kind crown too wouldn't want to pass by too near to her her wig might poke my eye out, more than that, if she stood next to a palm tree l wouldn't be able to tell the difference, wigs got leaves branches and a trunk! Me too - one of the earliest voices I knew and memorized… a long time ago but was called back to her tonight… for “what child is this” - but once I jumped back into that river - the current is taking me. God bless her soul always and ever - never forgotten.

It would be nice to see the complete concert. This video definitely made it worthwhile for me. I can easily see this mor times. Just a Closer Walk With Thee is an all time favorite hymn in our family. Thanks for posting and praying you can more or more like it. I can not get over how it is the real thing!

This version always moves me deeply... at my grandma's memorial service the pianist played this while everyone was gathering and seating. No one knew what it meant to me at the time, but I still can't get thru this one without a tear in my eye lol.
