The EX, though lacking in power, had a tastefully executed appearance. I remember the day I nearly purchased one from a used car junction about 12 years ago. I was attracted to the car immediately. What really lured me in was the interior...not only had it been well kept but the cloth seats and gear shift were well suited to my driving preference. And the absolute best part of it all was the gauge cluster that featured a blue outline with white needles. Fantastic. Though hindsight is a real kick in the arse.
Really wish I woulda bought that thing.

That's exactly why I kept it bone stock like it was born from the factory. No one on here has one like this, something so hard to find now and it shows the true history of the car. Many people really appreciate the originality as opposed to obsessive modding.

Have such a soft spot for these. It’s 2022 and I’m looking to buy a new car but still I come across a mint condition EX every once in awhile. I’ve had 3 of these and thinking of buying my 4th that just came up in my area. Getting harder to find a low mileage one. It’s not fast at all but it is imo one of the best built civics ever made. The D16Y8 is made to last and these cars have most of the basic amenities you’d want-sunroof, A/C, keyless entry etc…
I also could have bought a Milano Red in immaculate condition for $4000 a couple years ago. Still knock myself for not buying it cause those cars will never be that cheap again.
Literally just picked up a 2000 Honda Civic ex with 124k miles some old lady had just sitting in her drive way for years. Interior absolutely spotless. Engine no leaks. No engine check lights. Only issue was Clear coat and paint is all faded out but bit the bullet and bought it for 2k. Going to sand it out with my buddy and wrap it with a color as close to si red. Keeping the og d16y8. Just going to be that really clean civic ex

You can search up the vin online and find out. There’s a couple of things that would be obvious though. Does it have the b series engine? If so check the vin on the front of the engine and it should match the rest of the vins on the car. If it has the single cam d16 then it’s an ex.
i had a 98 ex, not very fast but it was still sort of fun to drive

Old video but I’ll add to it since these cars are becoming so rare and I love them. Si also came with a bigger front sway bar and a rear sway bar, ex had no rear. The Si also has a more firm spring rate for front and rear. And lastly the Si has different lower front control arms and wider front damper forks. The Si was actually very different from the ex.

Yo, shoutout to the people who understand that a spoiler on a fwd car isnt rice and if done right, can add stability at higher speeds. Regardless of the drivetrain. At highway speeds, all cars need down force because of the underbelly causing somewhat of a upwards parachuting effect which a spoiler can help counteract. Also, they CAN look good but that's just preference.

I have an Ex D16y8 Vtec I'd be happier with the Si model , but I'm grateful with what I have! I was going to add a body kit , but after watching this I'm keeping it STOCK ! Except for the Factory Radio lol I'm getting an Aftermarket Touchscreen double din
By all means keep it stock on the outside, maybe add some upgrades to the engine/suspension (manifold, ecu, shocks, sway bar and so on) 😊

nice Milano red. I just pick up a 2000 EBP EM1 clean title, 139,xxx original, stock b16a2 for $5500 at my local CAR Dealer near me about 3 week ago.. I couldn't pass on it because its getting harder and harder to find these em1 in good condition..my got a si Spoiler wing. all im just missing is the oem RIM lol I need to buy a pair of those then my would be stock :) I live in California so we cant swap cause we got smog so im glad and happy to find a stock b16a2 em1. I garage kept mine. and clutch lock, steering wheel lock, and block it in with my dad Toyota Tacoma truck
damn all those civics are very well maintained and super clean. an excellent daily gas saving driver. props foooooo. you should put the civc type r grill and Gsr mirrors it gives the car a whole different look for the better.

I ended up getting the 06 Si coupe, its pretty sweet. The 9th gens look worse imo.

David Andrasi Canadian Si which is the EX is the U.S. takes regular gas. The Si-R in Canada which is the Si in the U.S. takes premium gas or 91 octane. An easier way to remember is the SOHC engine takes regular and the DOHC engine takes premium. The sportier model requires better fuel for combustion reasons as stephen has already said.
Here in Australia we have VTI-R which is the same as the SI nice old cars. I own a Integra DC5R 👌🏼
I never knew how hard it was to find a stock original Si or Sir with low kms until now. Ive been shopping around and only came across a few clean cars. The one im really considering doesnt have the si gauge faces. Is that an option ,or is that because im looking at Canadian cars?
Most likely because that is a EX. Canadian Si is a US EX. Canadian Si-R is a US Si. This video features a US Si so in Canada this would be a Si-R.

You have a ex unless your from Canada in which the SI there is the U.S. ex and the SI-R is the equivalent to the U.S. SI. Either way the em1 is the only civic that comes with a DOHC B16a2.

Front lower control arms are bigger on the si, they are stamped steel vs sand cast for other models.
Front sway bar is bigger on the so as well.
Various bushings are diff as the parts are bigger on the si.
Whole si exhaust is bigger diameter as well.

I got a 99 Honda civic with a 1.6 engine with 120 mph I'm thinking of swapping it to a b20 how many mph you think it will go 140 mph? what should I put under the hood?
why and where are you driving 120?and no it's your transmission that gives you your final speed your motor dictates how fast you get there
yes you'll go faster but not much and the guy above is right it depends on your tranny. if you swap a B20 in then your options for the transmission an LS (Long gears) which is out of an non vtec B18b integra, a B16 tranny (short gears) out of an civic si, or a GSR tranny (in the middle of the two for gear ratio) which is out of a Vtec B18c integra.if you want a faster car then get the B20 with the GSR transmission, then you can turbo the motor or change the cylinder head to one from a B16 or the B18c. After a tune then yes you will reach 140 mph. Good luck and dont die!

Super duper stock and clean EM1 would definitely pay top dollar! Keep it stock forever, it's going to be worth a lot more in a decade or so since everyone is modding theirs. EM1s were top of the class back in it's day. Only reason it's not anymore is do to every other manufacturer going boost and hopefully Honda follows through with their Type R turbo.
Exactly stock is where the value and rareness is. To have one stock is now unique as they are all modded.
And here we go. How hard is it to find a stock civic now ? Really hard. Just just lucky and found one an old lady was selling. 124k miles d16y8. No engine check lights. No leaks.

the main difference is one is operated by a high revving dual cam engine in the B16 w VTEC while the other is operated by a standard single cam D16 w VTEC lol 😂😂😂

It’s just a front lip lol, and if you get super lucky you find the OEM rear lip. The side skirts are the same just painted.
