  • Welcome to another woodturning project! After a longer break I made a lidded box out of this branches and blue colored resin. I finished the project with Danish oil.
    Hope you enjoy the video!

    I am a disabled veteran who has lost my purpose in life due to having seizures and sleep only 2-4 hours a night. I stumbled upon this and think I was supposed to run across it. I grew up as a landscaper's son and only knew working with my hands. Not being able to drive and living alone has stripped me of pride and purpose. I might have just been realigned. Thank you for sharing. Thank you Lord for directing me here.

    it's a shame more of the blue wasn't visible. it was so cool against all the diff colors of wood. nice that there's a bit on the handle at least. (these projects seem painstaking. must require phenomenal patience.)

    • @magmadragon75
      @magmadragon75 11 месяцев назад +3

      As a bit of context, most of these making projects aren't pain staking. When you are a maker you easily start seeing how things develop and turning is no different. We see a side down view with the wood itself as background. With a top down view that the maker tends to use during turning you actually get to see the profile of what you are doing a lot easier, as well as these sorts of videos not always showing the many stops in between to check progress, any possible faults and sometimes speed changes, though with practice the latter become instinctual especially with an electrically driven motor instead of a belt driven one. It only tends to start becoming pain staking when sanding as progress is hard to see between passes and only becomes obvious over the process whereas a single cut of the chisel is immediately visible.

    I've noticed this on several turning videos, but there's an awesome illusion where the piece seems to pause when nothing is touching it. It's kinda cool to see.

    Incredible. You had me with the clean trimmed wood sticks
    . The blue resin is wonderful.
    A long plank of this material would be great for custom interior pieces or custom dashboard inserts.
    Great trick to spin the inner lid .

    This is an amazing project. I wondered what you were going to do running the sticks the short way and then when you made that big gouge in the side, it really took me a minute til I figured it was a lid.
    I'm watching you more and more. It's soothing. I'm a chronic pain patient and some days I feel well enough to want to do something, but from experience know I'd better not or I will risk actually being well enough to do something tomorrow. It makes me jumpy tho. Watching you make such beautiful things not only appeals to the artistic side in me, but also the side that would rather be in the woods. Thank you for sharing what you do with us. It's far more helpful than you might imagine.

    Is there a reason you don't lop off the corners with your bandsaw? I'm not a woodworker, so maybe I'm missing something, it just seems like it would be easier to start with an octagon rather than a square.

    Not to disparage or disrespect your craftsmanship in anyway but I think this would have looked even more awesome if you used dark wood dye on the long exposed sticks, and treated the end pieces with only clear, but that's just a matter of taste.
    I also do wonder why wood turners don't hex out the work pieces if they got a band saw. One would think that an angled jig would save time in the initial carving on the bench, but I digress.
    A really nice looking jar. Was interesting to watch it take shape.
