I was going to say that some thing. It hurt a little watching that first cut. The cup is beautiful, but the original block of wood was equally so. I'll take the paper weight.
I'm convinced Jack is a robot. You never see him, and for a human to turn out such precisely beautiful works as he does is beyond comprehension! Love it.
Why is everyone complaining about the price? It's not an electric toothbrush, or a car. It's a piece of art. And art is highly subjective. It's worth whatever someone's willing to pay for it. And that's great news for artists like Jack, because there's always gonna be rich people visiting art galleries who would drop a grand on something just because it looks neat. You and me are not the target demographic.
A person is going to do something all day why not productively. ???? So it took a lot of sanding some electricity. But it still is not worth a $1000.00 price tag yes the wood is great but look at how much he wasted . Not right to make others make up for it .that was his choice. A good one I must say but still not worth what he is asking for it !!!!!😮
I love this! I think this is the first time I’ve seen a coffee cup made. Thanks for sharing! I guess there’s really no limits of what you can make woodturning.
Finally! A perfect cup worthy of the perfectly roasted/brewed coffee. I've been searching for a mug for many years. Now it seems the goal is clearly presented.
Thanks Jack for another masterpiece. Very beautiful. I shudder a bit every time I see you using the band saw or table saw with those gloves on though. As an ex cabinetmaker, we never ever allowed our employees to wear any kind of glove around machinery. My Dad actually lost two fingers while operating a table saw with gloves on. The glove caught the blade and pulled his hand in.
Fear not! They're nitrile gloves: skin tight, so next to no chance of catching and as strong in tension as you'd expect a 0.3mm thick elastic band to be, if they ever did.
Absolutely beautiful and worth every cent. Even with the video, it's amazing that some people can't see it. -Even having to resort to being downright rude. Great work.
Looks great. I certainly would never pay $1000 for a coffee cup but for your profession i'm glad there are people out there who will. The question is when will you complete the rest of the dining set? 🤣
Jack, first time watching your YT. Very cool on how you built this coffee cup. I really enjoyed. On the wood, my best guest is Snakewood ... only saw it one time ... never since ... Bob
Hi Jack, this episode came on my Google feed, and like that it did. FANTASTIC workmanship. You make it look easy. My guess on the wood species is snakewood. Cheers!
retty darn good eye there Jack Mack . You are a true artiste . I have no idea what kind of wood it is , but it sure is beautiful . Does not look like anything I have seen in N.W. USA .
I do have an idea for the cut off. Hollow out more to shape u want, fill cavity with foam, keeping flat sides. It will be easy to dig out. Make form for epoxy pour. Would make a beautiful flat sided vase. (some sanding required) Hate to see that go to waste. I do some wood carving by hand, and tend to look for abstract or odd shapes 😃 Thank you for your videos. Work is inspiring, drooling over that wood.
Precious skills Jack thanks for sharing your art. My guess is the wood is a semi petrified fruit or nut tree root... maybe a walnut? I'm not sure though it's ever so lovely what ever it is. Ancient root system.
Stunning and very clever . Looks like it will be an expensive coffee cup though , Thuya Burl ? How permeable is it to liquid and did you use just Danish Oil on the surface ? 👏👏👏
I worked as a ferrier assistant for a bit, and one of the things I learned there, is to use the entire rasp in long controlled strokes working on horse hooves, not rubbing against the grooves. I hope this helps with your hand carving.
I wish i had stacks of cash. I would be your top customer. Im a retired diesel mechanic/ metal machinist and my savings went to getting Dutch residency. Totally enjoy your channel
I didn't have the patience to watch the whole video, can't even begin to comprehend the patience it took to make this piece, absolutely gorgeous. No way in hell I'd ever put coffee in it though (or any other fluid for that matter). In the last close-up of the interior you could see hundreds of little voids in that wild grain structure.
There's probably a finish on the wood that makes it water tight. Also keeps it from rotting or molding or absorbing bits of soggy food floating around with it in the dishwasher. I wouldn't stress about it being able to hold your coffee.
$1,000 feels like a fair price for some genuine craftsmanship. I couldn’t afford it myself but I respect the equipment and years of study/experience it must have taken to produce this. So fun to see the process!
Dude it really isn’t worth 1000 dollars. Took him less than two hours work lol I think it’s just clickbait title. So cheer up buddy, you can afford one, one day
I was thinking this what makes is $1000 cup has to be clickbait, it's amazing and really well done and unless the wood is extremely rare $1000 wood 🤷♂️
@@TheAshers999 I mean, it is extremely rare... Personally never seen a burl this dense for sale at this size. Usually these are sold as veneer, no idea how close this one is to 1k (minus other production costs)
Very beautiful coffee cup. What did you use to seal it? I enjoy watching your videos, it give’s ideas or different techniques to use when I turn a piece on the lathe.
@JackMackWoodturning I actually used it for about ten tears but it did eventually break in half across the cup. I checked but I don't have any pictures but it was made of a pine burl
in giving a prize to the first person to guess the right wood species.

THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Afzelia wood?
Gran bel lavoro !
Ma non ho compreso di che legno si tratta.
Utile?
❤ This!
A mallee burl maybe ?
It's very pretty whatever it is!!
You fiend!
I think I’d just keep that pieces of wood as-is and stare at it on my desk all day haha.
I was going to say that some thing. It hurt a little watching that first cut. The cup is beautiful, but the original block of wood was equally so. I'll take the paper weight.
@@jaredwonnacott9732 Yes such a huge waste of material as well. Kind of stupid it cost that much though too, but I guess it is very cool.
If it were also polished it would be even more protected, with a sparkling beauty and an incredible colour 🤎
Agreed.
The wood is pure gold 🤩 great grandpa had something out of wood he had. Reminds of our Swiss folks 😍Thanks Jack!

Man, I can’t even imagine the hours it took to shape it with rasps and even more hours it took to sand this piece!
Beautiful! ❤
I agree!
You can't imagine 3 hours?

Doors
A spaceship.
Maybe there are no limits, but we're a really long way off from someone wood turning a device that's capable of faster than light travel.
A wagyu beef wood mug. Nice!👌🏻
Haha 🤘🏻
Awesome Description 😂
That mug would never leave my house!! I’m astonished as to how it turned out. Bravo sir
Glad you like it! Where are you watching from?
Pennsylvania
@@JackMackWoodturning I am watching your work from Finland and here the wooden cup is named Kuksa. It is a native Sami cup for every day use.

Wore them 30 years as a mechanic and machinist. Cloth gloves may be a bad idea.
Yes Nitrile gloves tear when you look at them
Have been a machinist for 50 years and I agree 👍
There are those that have not been injured yet using woodworking machinery, and those that are going to.
Don't know much about this, but I think it looks like birds-eye maple.
Wow that is one purdy piece of wood!! Now it's purdy and functional
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the great ideas.
Beautiful, so fun to watch too. I love all the different applications you can get out of a lathe.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
That piece of wood is BEAUTIFUL, really amazing.

So enjoyable to see hand carving skills alongside turning work. What a beautiful piece. ❤

You’re super talented brother. What an amazing skilled trade!!! One of a kind. Thank you.
I think it looks like the menu background from the original doom with all the skulls from hell. Very cool
😆 it really does ey
Would love to know what wood you used to value the piece at $1,000. But it is nice, good job
Looks like thuya burr
That wood is absolutely beautiful. I can understand why it’s so prized. Wow. Ya done good, son.
Great work and beautiful wood.
Stunning piece , the wood grain is amazing 🎉❤
Excellent technique and professional use of tools!
Beautiful coffee cup, Jack. I would definitely drink coffee out of it. 😊😊
I love the smell of working with Thuya!
I watched a lot of your videos but this coffee cup is gorgeous 👌🔝
Thanks
Fine work Jack, enjoyed watching the filing used to create the details. Perhaps creating a mate with a different type of burl would compliment it. 😄😄

A small cup... I need a mug... double sized...
The grains are spectacular... overwelming... 😮
So beautiful that is expertly completed! Simply Wow!!
Thanks buddy
Beautiful mug! ☕️
My firewood turning projects definitely don’t cost $1000, but they also don’t look as good as this! Nice job.

Absolutely beautiful grain on this piece, I'd enjoy a nice cup of tea in that
Классная получилась кружечка 💯🔥
This is beautiful but I winced when you stuck your hands into a running lathe with a part on one side and a hard steel part on the other.

I have no idea what the wood is. All I can tell is it's very hard, very dense, beautiful and rare. It's a fantastic cup to sip coffee out of.
I worked as a ferrier assistant for a bit, and one of the things I learned there, is to use the entire rasp in long controlled strokes working on horse hooves, not rubbing against the grooves. I hope this helps with your hand carving.
It might, if the wood were a hoof.

@MrRobertBatchelor it is worth that much because of the wood it's made from.
@@Schm1dtstorm I’m finding similar stabilised pieces of wood for 60 dollars so I don’t agree.
I’ll stick to my $10 coffee cup
Wow check out Mr fancy pants with his $10 coffee cup.
I'm willing to bet your $10 coffee cup, cost less than $1 to make.
Hello Jack, nice to see you back. Beautiful job you've made of that Thuya burr. Or is it? Hmmm, , 🙃
Fantastic I love it what was that u wiped it down with?

So very nice beautiful amazing
One very beautiful hand made coffee ☕️
Beautiful and extremely creative ☕️ ❤
I don't know what that wood is other than gorgeous...
Very nice !
Thank you

I don't know what kind of wood it was made from but it looked incredibly delicious. Masterfully done, bravo

Beautiful! I am on a kick of 20 ounces or more coffee mugs. I like a large amount of coffee rather than small coffee cups.
Nice cup!
Fabulous. My guess, Buckeye Burl.
You are a first class woodturner❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Simply beautiful, stunning skill👍
That came out great, nice job.
Ah yes that first sip in the morning as you stare introspectively into the screaming souls of the dead
How did you know my morning routine?
Absolutely beautiful.
Stunning
Thanks buddy
Absolutely gorgeous!
OMG! You are truly an amazing craftsman.
Great job, but gotta admit for a moment. I was wondering where you were going with it 😅
I thought the title was pretty self explanatory 😉

It is a burl 👍🏻
I'm going to guess, Mappa Burl.
I'm not sure but fingers crossed. Great job!
$1,000 Coffee Cup ... in your dreams!
“That’s the cup of a carpenter”
Is the substance you painted the wood with suitable for hot temperatures and food safe?
It would t be a coffee cup otherwise would it 😉
Awesome sauce coffee cup but I have to ask what kind of burl is $1000. That’s wild.
The wood is thuya and this piece comes from the root of the thuya tree mainly found in North Africa. Great piece of craftmanship.
It does look like it, thuya won't let oil finish cure though
Beautiful coffee cup
Did u by chance mark the metrics of the cups fluid capacities?😂 kudos brother❤
Beautiful, thanks for sharing. 😮🇦🇺
Thuja Burl ? Brilliant work
