Wiwirri is looking fabulous. Love the clear timber highlights. Still dealing with the sanding demon on Trim - having to sand between each coat is mind numbing…
Indeed there is not! We have some deck repairs to do when we flip her over, and lots of varnishing… but nearly there. Dynamite Jack, maybe a bit longer!
Thanks for sharing the process of fixing your boats. I am in the process of repairing my own Heron, it has been great to watch the process. My boat is 2/3 stripped on the bottom and seems to be either weeping or soaking up moisture. Pics here drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FX0GScUSINc9IoxB_lrnx_rofF6kphvT?usp=sharing any suggestions your brains trust could offer would be greatly received.
Goodness she is beautiful! We had something similar with Wiwirri when she was stripped. The original thought was the wood drying out, but then we realised it was actually osmosis - attracting water from the atmosphere. Heat gun and sealing it worked fine. Your heron is so lovely! How old is she?
@@afloatinawoodenboat Very relieving to hear you had a similar issue, this is what I suspected and I have managed to dry it out fairly easily. As soon as I finish stripping I will be reinforcing the bottom with fibreglass then repainting the hull. From the research I have managed to do the boat was first registered in about 1975. On the register it is listed as Pink Panther and this is the name I have always known it as. For the past 20+ years or so it has been part of the NSW Girl Guides small fleet and was replaced by a more modern craft earlier this year. Unfortunately someone decided to paint it badly with bright pink house paint and left it outside for a while without doing any repairs before hand. I am not doing a full resto, just fixing any damage, reinforcing the bottom and repainting. The sails are very new and have red edges which my wife likes so it will be painted in red this time. I love to sail/cruise and my kids are 5 and 7 so want to get on the water asap so I can get them hooked before they get too old ;)

It’s a never ending torture! When you buy the boat it’s like - oh yeah, it just needs some paint… and then reality bites!
Really. Nice job and everyone will be happy and proud watching her dance on the water
Thank you! Can’t wait for launching day. Still heaps to do when she gets turned over.
Nice! Lucky the varnishing is easier, you are almost on the home stretch. Although, with a timber boat, there is really is no finish line......
