From Boreen Point, you can see a big sand patch on the hill at the north of the lake. Certainly a good idea to remove/reduce lee helm especially if sailing solo. My Gannet has weather helm which I like. I fitted a Huntingford tiller impeder so that I could leave the helm an slide up to the mast to adjust halyards etc - it works really well. I have also tried heaving-to and that also works well. Good luck with the planned improvements 🙂

Thank you, I feel like it captured the mood of the day well. So soothing to be on the water in those conditions, surrounded by a veritable exhibit of beautiful boats.

Hi,has the transom got a cut out for the outboard motor. Can the rudder be used successfully without fouling on the motor?

    • @afloatinawoodenboat

The transom had a flat section one side for the outboard. The electric outboard did not foul on the rudder. Thanks for watching!

So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. Have you sailed a Gannet before?

@@afloatinawoodenboat no I haven't sailed a gannet. The first boat I ever sailed was a heron, later on I sailed scow moths and 14ft skiffs and lazy E's. The gannet reminds me of the heron but of course the gannet is bigger. I'm getting older now and haven't sailed for many years but once it is in your blood it stays with you. Cheers Denis

Isn’t it! She will be very shiny soon with a bit of new varnish and polish. I’m looking forward to testing her out on an actual expedition.
