I think boats have souls, for sure! And I think I’m a sucker… haha ;) truth is that outside of the boats, my life is crazy busy. They are my sanity, and they keep me connected to my family, both here in Tasmania and those further afield (like my parents in Queensland). They are a great leveller. Thanks so much for watching :)
Beaut example of the 5000. You've done a great job of restoring her. Really like the tangerine hull. My 5000 has blue "tartan?" bunk covers and grey ones on the quarter berth cushions. I guess the quarter berth ones got the most wear.
Well done on fixing her up, and you and Chris Joseph RUclipser now have to many boats. So one boat for the kids, One boat for lakes, And one boat for going around Tasmania by road and the big one for going off Sure.
Not quite, I just have Franci for the lakes and towing around, and the keelboat for family trips - not sure if that one will pan out though. Kids have their herons. Piccolo is going to a new family.
Franci looks fantastic, well done. I am told that Tangerine boats go almost as fast as red ones. Look forward to seeing some video of Franci on the water.
Hehe that made me chuckle. Nearly as fast ;) I am sorely disappointed that I can’t provide you with a sailing video already. It’s taken a lot more work than initially anticipated to get her into a condition I’m happy with to keep the kids sorted and safe on the water. One day soon I will be able to start the nice to have jobs - like squabs that’s don’t stick to you (love that 80s disintegrated fabric…).
I owned a little Farr 5000 nearly 30 years ago great little boat I did some mad sailing on it in remote coastal areas of Western Australia I even cruised the Murray river on it have fun
I can’t wait! Maiden sail is still a few weeks away, she’s having her “roadworthy” tomorrow and then I have to transfer the trailer and boat to Tasmanian registration. Each week we are a step closer!
They are a kiwi (New Zealand) boat that was very successful in NZ and Australia. Franci was built in NZ and shipped out here - she was the third last one ever made! The magic eraser is a cleaning product often used to get marks off walls - I got it from the supermarket in the cleaning aisle. It’s that white, sponge-like thing I used in one scene of the little film. Let me know if you have trouble finding it and I can try to send you a link!
Thank you! Still a ways to go. I used a cut & polish first by hand, then 3M marine oxidation remover and wax on low resolution buffer with a lambs wool pad. Followed by a marine grade polish to seal her up again. It was worth the effort! Thanks so much for watching.
Well, piccolo is going to a new home. So I still just have the keelboat and a cruising dinghy. The kids have their herons. I had a moment of clarity after trying to manage an overnighter in an open dinghy in the cold weather here. It’s just too hard for me to keep the kids comfy and safe without a cabin. I don’t think this would ever have eventuated if it were just me sailing, but let’s be real - when the poor wee guys are cold and shivering, nobody is having fun. Having a place to get out of the weather will be fantastic. And she’s small enough I can still sail her solo - only one foot bigger than piccolo was.
Wow you've done a really nice job with the restoration.
Well done You.
Cheers
Thank you very much! And thanks for watching. The restoration work continues!
You are truly a steward of of loving care of old boats maybe they know your heart and seek you out

And, I think, most prone to sunshine and water deterioration. I’ve got to recover the squabs. All of them. They are kind of sticky!

Looking good. You're probably already aware but Selleys Mould Killer is a very handy product to have. Cheers.
Thanks for the hot tip! And for watching :)
This is great little boat! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much. We are very excited to get out on the water and test her out!

Love to see small boats brought up to par. Well done.
Not quite to par yet, but making in roads for sure! I will keep you all posted on her progress. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch :)

Really? How exciting! What was she called? Do you remember her hull number?
Looking sharp. Gonna be a lot of fun.

Nice work folks! BestRoy
Thanks Roy! We appreciate you watching :)
@@afloatinawoodenboat No worries! She's a cool little boat! BestRoy
Sure is!
Lovely boat, wish they had them in the UK, seem to be an Austrlian boat? What was the "Magic eraser" I could definitely do with one of those myself!!

@@afloatinawoodenboat Found it!! Many thanks!
@@SailingWithDave my pleasure! Good luck :)
You're doing a fantastic job. She's looking beautiful. What did you use to bring the gel coat back to life?

That boat looks familiar 😂 🤔
Does it? Do you know her from Adelaide?
Very nice👍How many boats in your fleet now?(not that I think you can have too many😊)
