- I play a Magic the Gathering Online Legacy league with Dimir OmniShow and Imitate, a lovingly-constructed deck from Patreon subscriber Joe L. This take on the OmniShow archetype uses the normal Emrakul and Omniscience stuff plus leans into some new and exciting 3 drops to always threaten a game-ending spell. Show and Tell, Vesuvan Drifter, and Palantir of Orthanc all threaten big damage very quickly. Backed by Force of Will and Thoughtseize, this deck demands serious respect very quickly. I love how the Surgical Extraction muscle memory is so strong that BoshNRoll still went to click on their portrait while casting it to try to pay the life for it even though they were casting it for free with Omniscience.

I've come to believe that in a format where you can't play Mystical, Vampiric, or Demonic Tutor, Lim-Dul's vault is the gold standard of what is left. Yes, it is card negative, but if it wins you the game or enables a Grizzledraw of an extra 7, I'm okay with that.
You for sure did some boarding and play patterns different than lines I usually take, which is cool to see. Against TES in the post-board match I think I aggressively use the Vault to dig up the Null Rod on turn 2 to deploy on turn 3. It isn't always a guaranteed win against TES the way it is against BSS or Mystic Forge Combo, but given what you saw off the Thoughtseize I think it'd have been worth the card disadvantage there.
I chalk up both match losses to the fact that you replaced my snow-covered basics with regular basics. Clearly would've been a 5-0 trophy run with that powerup. ;-)
This deck looks like so much fun! I haven't played Magic in about 8 years, but a friend recently got me interested in Legacy again and I've been trying to decide what deck I want to build...I think I might have the answer!

Yeah, I actually missed that card during spoiler season, then saw someone playing it, and drooled. Wizards should errata the oracle text to read "Let Joe draw a card or probably lose the game"
I know right! The "let the opponent choose" cards are typically "bad", but this card just clearly represents consistent scry 2, and then the mini game of letting your opponent decide whether you've set them up for bad or worse. Not much palantir in this league, but I'd love to check out more of your omnishow with palantir. Do you have a channel too? Or were you just sending bosh some screen shots?@@Joe__L
It feels like you have the worst luck whenever you play a mind's desire deck, but your opponents get handed it whenever they just roll the dice.

Man, I thought using Palantir with the new swamp cycler would be good, but it's on another level here.
When Palantir was spoiled, my first though was to slot it into Mono-Green Tron (As the deck has a decent CMC, and it's a source of colourless draw at 3 mana).
Very, VERY cool deck. This is the kind if deck I would play if I could afford to play Legacy lol

You mentioned enjoying when people say you're part of their routine, I wake up, make coffee, and watch your videos just about every day to wake up. you're my breakfast buddy lol, I had a bit of a time g1 of round 3 when you thoughtseized them, you were talking about the b-storm and the burning wish, and I was just afraid of you dying to the diamond...........
So this just looks like Dimir Magical Christmas Land.dec. Super fun to watch this one!

Not taking LED when they have a guaranteed Echo has to be a mistake. What are they going to do with Wish that scared you there? They had no mana basically.
Yeah especially because they had wishclaw in hand, cutting their LED buys so much time.
My thought is that their deck is almost entirely mana sources. They have 2 tutors to pay out. I left them with the tutor that I get after they use it if they want to blind echo into a force deck after handing me a tutor. I’m fine there against all draws except second LED.
I freakin' LOVE Lim-Dûl's Vault, the amount of people who have zero clue how insane it is baffles me
A casting cost of two in two specific colors for a spell that is net card negative in a format where the baseline for a cantrip is card neutral and half the cost (Brainstorm, Ponder) makes it unattractive on the surface. Firing it off without a plan sucks. However, when used judiciously it can be an "I win the game" button and feels almost like cheating.
@@Joe__L exactly. Mathematically, it looks like it's always going negative, and it's a 2-colour "tutor" that doesn't immediately draw the desired cards. In practice, when you resolve an LDV, the game usually ends either immediately or virtually (the opponent is effectively dead, since they can't cope). It's not brainstorm/ponder, since it can't just be put into any generically blue deck, but if you build a deck where LDV is good, it's the best card in the deck
Missed opportunity not calling it Omni-Joe but very cool deck nontheless. Would love to try this in paper.

Immediate thought after the deck tech but before the games begin: What was the thinking behind only 1 sol land? It seems like with your core cards all make good use of {C}{C} and sol lands are really good for jamming on turn 2. I get wanting to have enough islands for lorien and your fetches, but going off a turn earlier seems very important.
It is out of respect for the Drifter lines. Ramping into an ahead of curve Drifter isn't getting you a turn ahead unless you can cash in the Drifter, which is usually a Lim-Dul's Vault line, which requires two colored sources. This goes hand in hand with Brian's questioning of the extra Petal - colored ramp is better than colorless ramp for us, and also the Petals are much better hits off of a non-Omni Grizzledraw.
When you said the total mana value is over 200 i had a spittake. My cedh deck is at 140, and thats 100 cards. Dang
sometimes the downside of palantir letting the opponent choose instead of just let you draw is an upside, in historic I won a lot of game because the opponent decidet to have me mill the wrong 2/3 cards
In both games round 3, would it not have been best to take LED both times with Thoughtseize?
I think I may try this deck out in paper, it looks fun, I’ve always played lands or delver.
Tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than lands. Tens of thousands of times more fun than Delver.

@@stevenrhodes8338 Yeah i immediately thought of stilfe naught as well. The thing is 'active as a sorcery' is just such a huge drawback compared to lazav. Especially in a bowmaster's world. Though a flying dreadnaught might just be worth the risk

Curious about the thought process behind the archon and griselbrand VS more blightsteel and emrakul, or an atraxa. Is it for the occasional hard cast?
Atraxa sucks when she shows up as imitated by a Drifter. Everything that makes her special is on ETB. Blightsteel and Archon dodge Karakas, Emrakul dodges Plow, Archon beats Maze of Ith, Grizzle draws cards, and in tandem one Surgical can't wipe out your win-con. Power in diversity, and the right tool for the right job.

I think you leave the LD vaults in vs combo to get your combo pieces faster and pitch to force
I'm inclined to agree but the whole point of this is to see what lines Brian would take. I lose R1G1 for sure by fetching basic Island and Ponder out of respect for Wasteland in the dark instead of Thoughtseizing out of the gate. I maybe take G2 vs TES using the Vault to dig up Null Rod. Who knows how I do vs the mono-black Reanimator in the last round - for sure I board way different, and it is interesting and educational to see different strategies applied and hear the thought process behind them, be they successful or not. Especially from someone like Brian.
30:05 petal was the only UB source they had for brainstorm/wishclaw sure you would have gave him U mana but it would be a better call as it took away both of your main concerns thou he would've do burning wish for the correction so maybe there was no better call.
LED was the call. But it didn't matter because OP ripped a new LED off the top. The only change would have been that OP would have grabbed echo instead of MD, which would have maybe resulted in stalling out that turn.
If the infinite life loop able to happen all in one turn or are you limited to just your decks worth of life per turn per shuffle ?
Happens all at once. Draw everything, discard Emrakul, draw everything again, discard Emrakul again etc
@@BoshNRollYou need to manipulate your graveyard and library such that the total cards between them are an even multiple of 7 in order to demonstrate the loop in paper and be able to say "I do this 8 billion times and have 8 billion * number of cards life" because otherwise it is possible the Emrakul(s) are at the very bottom and drawing another 7 would deck you.
With Omni in play or some open blue mana you can just Brainstorm, hold priority, pitchcast Force multiple times to exile cards until you get to a multiple of 7.
Dude you always do so great against storm... Watching you leaving them with veil in their hand and then shuffle away the flusterstorm 'because they have veil anyways' hurt in my soul. Preservering information isn't really a thing when you know for a fact that their entire deck folds to that one card that you have in hand :)
My quick math for sum mana value of the main deck is 201, for an average mv of 3.35.
R3G2 with OP dead on board you should have forced the rite of flame, you know it’s for relay and they’ve tapped out of green
17:04 You need to either keep all your monsters or put back both Blightsteel and Emrakul, because otherwise they can shuffle your deck with a resolved discard spell, and if that leaves you with no monsters, you’ll be in a bad spot against their Griselbrand. But there’s almost no chance that happens through your wall of countermagic, so whatever. 😅

54:50, and I suspect that the answer is because putting the enchantment back in the hand upgrades the threat next turn from their Grief with one more power to our Archon. Fluster can't hit the enchantment on the way back down.

Why Yuriko? Do you mean Satoru Umezawa? There's no cheap creatures in the deck, so there's nothing to ninjutsu off and you can't have a small package for something like that.
@@rekenner the small package would likely be the 3 Yurikos and 3 of the unblockable changeling. Yuriko plays well with the Lim duls vault and the excessively costed spells in the deck to great effect
@@effiefoemperorThat's way, way too few creatures to Ninjutsu off of. That's just going to result in a lot of dead Yuriko draws.

vs the storm...why not take lions eye diamond? Seams to me that in both the losses to it the lions eye won the game.
