3 year 40k review. Damn i have a 2021 X3M that had 15k when i bought it in January of 2023 now its January 2024 and i have 76651 miles on it. Been tuned running an E60 blend for 11 of those months. No issues what so ever.

This is a REALLY nice ride, but I think that for most people the M40i is the better vehicle. The M40i can be tuned easily and becomes just as fast with a little work. The M40i has a more compliant suspension but still handles well. The full M, like this one, is a complete no-go in many areas of the country. I travel from DC to Boston regularly and an M car would be in pieces by the end of the trip (I've done it in an M2). The roads just aren't good enough for the full M suspension. Not to mention that in "normal" situations the torque is more readily available in the M40i. The M needs to be on the track and really driven up at the top of the rev range to get the most out of it. You can see this by how close the 0-60 times are between the two cars.

Tune is only good if you are willing to loose your warranty. The other issue is that 2021 and earlier you have to bench unlock the ecu which is down time and pretty pricy. No easy flash for the past few years on those models. People that say it’s stuff haven’t driven stiff cars.

@@eiros59with a little work it becomes as fast as a stock s58. The B58 is a great motor nowhere near as fast.

X3 M40i is a great car for the general public and some so-called "budget car enthusiasts" 😂 but the X3MC is better for the die hard enthusiast. X3 M40i is a superior daily and the X3MC is a superior performance vehicle. Would you rather Gap econoboxes at every traffic light in an X3 M40i or humiliate Porsche 911 GT3s at a local road course in an X3MC? The difference between these two cars are far greater than you think. Most people tend to forget that it's a true M car that's not only built for the straights. For what it's worth, S58 all the way. And the S58 also makes great torque. What you described was an E9X.

My daily now is an Audi S4 w mods and I love it. I take my kids to school every morning in it, but my boys are getting bigger now and could use a little more room in the back. I have been looking at options, and like you I'm a VW Audi fan. But I have always wanted a BMW M car. The M3 is too small for my kids in the back, the M5 is on another tax bracket frankly. I saw a Vehicle Virgins video recently on the 2020+ X3 M Comp tuned as well and it opened up another option I didn't know existed. I'm not an SUV guy and would rather have a car, but a real M product with 500 hp and room in the back for a reasonable price?! And I like the interior as well, although I wouldn't go black, maybe red. Thanks for the video about your experience for 3 years and glad to hear you still love it. Has it turned you into a BMW fan now?

I recently ended my ownership with the Bmw. I do the same, carting kids around, and had to get a 3rd row. It was a sad day saying goodbye to the Bmw. I looked at an x7m60 but didn’t like how everything is going buttonless and the shifter (not that it’s super important) just didn’t make sense🤮. I would def buy another Bmw and I’m considering making some moves to potentially get another.
I will say I was in the same boat as you where I wasn’t an suv fan whatsoever. But the x3m quickly changed my mind. I loved that car! The engine is a powerhouse and it was reliable from start to finish. Drag raced it a bunch, drove it hard and the car just kept delivering. I could comfortably say if u bought one you wouldn’t regret it!

Good to know the ownership experience has been smooth sailing. I'm picking up a 22 LCI model Friday that a fellow Bimmerpost member (Mike02z) owned and took very good care of. I'm pumped but as someone coming out of a 3 year Tesla lease, having to pay for gas again isn't going to be fun... especially since I've been charging for free at my office for the last 2 years. On the other hand, despite it being a really quick car, the Tesla had zero emotion to the driving experience and from the reviews and owner comments I've seen, the X3M Comp is a riot.

Appreciate the review brotha! I’ve been eyeing up the X3M’s and X4M’s hard. Mostly because of the ease of tune ability and performance. Everything you said in this video basically confirmed everything I thought I knew about these. Issue is i’m 24 years old and cannot justify having two cars. Had a Raptor with the 3.5 twin turbo and that thing with a 93 tune was deceivingly quick. Now jumped into a TRX and just cannot beat the versatility with it. Everyone always raves about v8’s but ever since I owned that twin turbo v6 I’m not gonna lie I’ve been sorta itching to get back into something with tuning capability. Only thing stopping me is the fact that these do not have receivers for tow hitches. I don’t think BMW offers them at all on M SUVS. Damn shame. I’m going to get one of these at some point. Just hope they keep producing them for a few more years before going electric so I can enjoy that motor😅

I'm getting older and really do like having an suv, at least as one of my cars... and recently I've been feeling I'd like to consolidate to a single car that does everything. Having more space is definitely nice. The cabin is way nicer than the Audi and it drives like a car so it masks its size. Also the seats are way more more comfortable and better bolstered in the BMW (at least the comp seats). The rear seats recline a bit and are heated and cooled so if u are loading baby seats u can get a little more room if u need.
So as far as regrets I have zero. And size wise the bmw feels bigger to me now but handles like a car so I don’t even think about it. Hope that helps!

I’m sure I’m the anomaly on this one but I’ve been through 2 windshields so far believe it or not lol. I never drive behind any type of trucks so if caught me off guard. The first time it cracked I noticed it in the morning on my way to the dealership for a service appointment, it was covered under my warranty thankfully, the bill was around 3k. And just last week I noticed a very small chip in the glass and the next day it expanded and created a hairline crack, thankfully again it was covered under warranty. These were for the x3 m40 and I purchased them from bmw. Not an exact fit but really close. When I got the car three years ago there was nothing available for them at the time but I needed something. Hopefully there’s better options at this point but all and all these aren’t bad

It has 21” summer tires and 20” winter tires - you change them before the snow season.

Hey do you still own this car? Would to ask some questions as I am looking at a 2020 X3m at around the mileage of this one in this video. Is the ride as harsh as people say?

    • @IMHARDNBEHINDU
      @IMHARDNBEHINDU  7 месяцев назад

The ride is indeed firm. There’s aftermarket lowering springs that can make the ride much more livable which most owners tend to do myself included. However, it really depends where you are driving. If u have nice roads then you’ll be just fine on stock suspension. Potholes/rough roads there’s no doubt it will be punishing at times. I would happily own one again though!

I’m currently looking to buy one of these. Currently owning an M2 (fantastic car) and I now want something with more space.
A dealer has 2 X3M one from 2020 and one from 2021. They’re both nearly same spec. The 2020 has the older idrive6 system and the 2021 has the idrive7 system and they want 7k more for the 2021 model which even has a few more miles.
I saw that you have the idrive6 system do you find the system to be outdated already? Would you say the idrive7 is 7k more worth? I’m just not sure. On one hand I know the idrive6 already from my M2 but on the other hand I fear that the car with the older system will feel outdated fast. I do plan to keep the X3 for a while at least.

Bought these when all that was available were mud flaps for x3m40. I put ppf on rear end of the car but wanted a little extra protection. I’m sure at this point there’s probably better options 👍🏽

Was around 19/20 on 93 tune. I haven’t logged enough miles on the e30 mix yet. Had shoulder surgery and haven’t been able to drive so I’ll have to get back to you on that one. As it sits right now it shows 17.2mpg.

@@IMHARDNBEHINDU not bad, I should be able to average at least 20-23 mpg, I live in the country and around lots of hills. I get 21-23 mpg in my 5.0 mustang 😂😂
