for the landscape camera they could just leave it there and put 2 smaller magnet instead of one. So it would be perfectly centered and symmetrical

I agree with pretty much everything you said… EXCEPT for the 11” iPad Pro. Even if it is slightly small for dual booting MacOs & iOS… it shouldn’t be demoted to non pro status for the simple reason that not all “Pros” want to lug around a 12.9” model. I’m an artist who travels a lot and love the 11” for editing all my photos & 4k videos on while on the road. I don’t want that to be compromised. The 11” still feels like a traditional tablet. It is holdable to write & draw on for long periods of time, whereas the 12.9” is very cumbersome to hold & is better for table use. I do have an iPad mini & thought about using that while traveling & getting the 12.9” pro for home use. This is why some people wish for an iPad mini Pro. But like you said, that might compromise the battery life or cause overheating with a really fast M2 chip. I do agree however that the first gen apple pencil should be abolished. It truly is an abomination & very un-Apple like the way it needs to be charged. I think the real redundancy is with iPad Air & regular iPad. I think those two should be combined into one. And lastly a 16” iPad Pro. I think some artists would welcome that for serious artwork at home…but to me, this is a niche product.

The 10th gen iPad is a great leapfrog upgrade. I have both a 3rd gen iâd and a 4th gen iPäd Air. I upgraded to the tenth gen to hold me while they rev the air to the 6th gen. So its a leapfrog upgrade. Its a perfect device for those people who have much older iPads that they want to upgrade. It's got enough new things to provide value without stepping up to the iPad Air. It's aimed at the school market. Thats why they brought it out.

Ideas are good, but I'd make some tweaks:
    1) Rename the iPad Pro's from 11-inch and 12.9-inch models to "iPad Pro" and "iPad Pro Max" to be in line with the iPhone naming. Both pros get the same features - dual camera, mini-led display, pro motion - so the "Max" just defines the larger size.
    2) Might be an unpopular opinion, but I'd remove the Air name from the line up, since the standard iPad is so similar (iPad 10 is an iPad Air 4 with an unlaminated screen and a side camera instead of a top camera). The standard iPad would get Pencil 2 support mounted to the top, with buttons and webcam all on the side. Best of both worlds. I agree with the $399 price tag - Apple can easily recoup any losses through the App Store this way.
    3) iPad mini with be unchanged - even keeping the top camera. It's a much smaller tablet, you're not likely to use it like a laptop - the other ipads are better for that kind of functionality - it's better off as a notepad than anything.

I agree with most of what you said (I would definitely merge the 11" iPads, not change the mini that much, and give the 10th gen iPad Apple Pencil 2 support, drop the price, and kill the iPad 9) but I disagree that you should move the camera to be off-center, I think it could stay where it is and have the Apple Pencil 2 dock off-center to fit both. Also I would give the mini a smart connector and keyboard folio. I would also add a 14" iPad Pro (they could call it iPad Pro Max or iPad Ultra or something) so that there are still 2 Pro models

    • @justvladik94
      @justvladik94 Год назад

The Folio is a bit of a pain on the 11" as it is, IF, then maybe like a foldable one that would extend sideways, because Mini is just too small for a keyboard that size..

Heres my idea for revamping the iPad line-up. iPad 9th Gen is renamed iPad SE with an A14 chip. iPad 11 is iPad Air 4/5 with a non-laminated display and an A15 chip. iPad Air is still the same, but has 90 Hz display with what I term as "Pro Motion Lite" or something along those lines and the iPad Pro's current camera system. iPad mini also has a 90 Hz display and an A16 chip, but its the exact same at before. The 11" iPad Pro will get mini LED, and both models will have whatever the current iPhone Pro camera setup has. All the even bezelled iPads will have the camera place where it is on the iPad 10 and the Apple pencil magnet will be placed on the opposite side of the camera (the bottom). This would make it so that all cases protect the apple pencil and the magic keyboard can have more room to add a row of function keys. All the iPads will have a 128, 256, and 512 GB option, with the iPad Air also having 1TB and the iPad Pro's having 2 TB. Last but not least, flash lights on all iPad!

I think there should be a cheap version and a good version at every size point. iPad Mini, iPad Mini Pro, iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Plus, iPad Pro Max.
iPad Mini, iPad, and iPad Plus all share the low-end feature set. Basically the same features as the iPad 11 you described, except one’s 8.4 inches, one’s 11 inches, and one’s 12.9 inches - all start at 128gb storage, iPad Mini starts at $399, iPad starts at $449, iPad Plus starts at $500.
Then, for the pro models, they all have the usual pro features, and MicroLED comes standard, as well as coming with cellular antennae by default - but the iPad Mini also has all the important iPhone features (watch app, wallet, phone number support, earpiece, the ability to vibrate when called, thinner bezels to more easily fit in a pocket), and the iPad Pro/Pro Max comes with MacOS dual boot. Storage for each starts at 256. iPad Mini Pro starts at $999, iPad Pro starts at $1099, iPad Pro Max starts at $1199.
Now, the iPad line mirrors the iPhone line, except with the addition of a mini option. Of course this also blurs the line between iPhone Pro Max and iPad Mini Pro, with the Mini Pro bigger at a cheaper price and potentially cannibalizing iPhone Pro Max sales despite the iPhone having better hardware, so it’d never happen.

It's the first time ever that I'm going to buy an iPad and after I used the 120Hz refresh rate on my iPhone 13 pro, it seems impossible for me to go back to the 60Hz of the Air, that seems to be the best value for its price.
The price is not my primary concern, I just would like to have the best tablet for a few years and why not replace my PC because I am frankly not using it anymore.

@Tailosive Tech a few things I will say that you should have said is one every Apple product in existence should have a laminated display no matter what it cost to do so the second thing is the iPad mini are two ways they can go with that to fix it. The first is either update the iPad mini to be identical to the iPad Air but keep it smaller for factor and still only support Bluetooth keyboards or instead of upgrading the iPad mini they can upgrade the 10th generation iPad now called the 11th generation iPad to be exactly like the iPad mini but still keep it larger size and always support Bluetooth keyboard give it a laminated display and support USB type C 2.0.

I understand why people want the iPad selfy camera to be on the long edge however, I think that it’s better on the short edge because then photos and videos on it capture more of you because they will be in portrait orientation which is vertical like peoples body’s. Also I don’t think that the 11in iPad Pro should be nerfed in any way because I love that I get the same features as the 12.9in in a portable design. Overall great video though.👍🏻

Maybe they could have the same lineup with the iPads like they have with the iPhones: iPad SE (the old iPad 9), iPad (= the Air), iPad Plus (= a bigger Air), iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12. And the Magic Keyboards should be much cheaper. And the Pen as well. A keyboard for a tablet should not cost more than a regular keyboard.
The iPad Ultra is a good idea, but what about a convertible Macbook with touchscreen?

  • @MikeDold
    @MikeDold Год назад

I think every product category, including iPad, should just have 3 models: the high end model (Pro) the standard model and then the cheap model (SE), but can still have multiple screen sizes within each model. So iPad Pro but give the bigger screen size the name Pro Max, merge the iPad 10th gen and iPad Air into one model and just call it iPad with a matching smaller version called iPad mini, and then they can have their older designed stuff for cheap, so the iPad 9th gen becomes iPad SE.
Do the exact same thing with the Mac lineup as well, drop the name Air since it doesn’t really make sense anymore. You can apply this naming structure to even the iPhone and Apple Watch, and drop the numbers from the iPhone names, differentiating new models like they do everything else by saying a Xth gen etc.

  • @jronmantech
    @jronmantech Год назад

Here is my version. It isn't really simplified in the sense that it removes models to streamline the lineup, but it would make it less confusing to the average customer I guess. You go to buy an iPad, and you no longer have mini, budget, redesigned budget, air, small pro, and big pro. It is now just one "model" with more options. First, you pick if you want your iPad to be pro or regular/budget. Second, you pick your screen size: Mini, Regular, and Max. Then it would go to the expected options like storage capacity, accessories, etc.

  • @Jake.brazier

Right. Gonna go for a radical switch up. 9th and 10th gen iPads disappear. Ipad mini is the new “entry” ipad. Starts at 400/450. Apple can delaminate the display if the wish to in order to make it fit the price point/repairability at this price. Shrink the bezels just a bit more to somewhat compensate for not having a “big” ipad
Ipad air becomes ipad plus. It has a ~10inch screen. It can have thinner bezels in the same chassis or shrink it to screen size. It keeps pretty much all features it currently has except m1 chips. It really doesn’t need it. Starting price at 550/600. Bonus for promotion display or at minimum 90hz
Ipad pro at 11 inch and 13 or 12 and 14. Just better distinguishing size from the non pro. Yes to dual boot mac os.
Or if we really wanna stretch it out. The 11/12 inch is the “pro” with all the current features of the 12.9 inch. But the 13/14 inch model becomes the ultra and gets 2 usb c ports and dual boot option.
Overall the air and 11inch pro need to figure something out because they overlap too much and dont serve a great differentiating purpose with ipad os as it currently is.

I like the way you’re thinking but I can’t agree with the no 11” iPad Pro idea. There are many out there who want the most high end features in a more reasonably sized form factor. A lot of people were disappointed when Apple didn’t give the 11” model the miniLED display. Imagine if they started restricting lots of features to the largest model, it would upset a lot of people including myself. A base $399 iPad should be sold with the new design, Apple pencil 2nd gen, unlaminated display, and an older processor. A $600 iPad Air should never have received the M1 chip and should have received the latest, best chip in the most expensive iPhone. Features would be a 90hz display, dual wide and ultra wide cameras without lidar, 5G, landscape camera, touch id, stereo speakers, and usb-c port. 128GB, 256GB, 512GB storage options. Moving up, there would be an $850 iPad Pro 11” with a miniLED 120hz pro motion display, the latest base Max chip like M1 or M2, wide, ultra wide, telephoto, and lidar cameras, thunderbolt, apple pencil hover, best mics, quad speakers, etc. 128GB, 256GB! 512GB, 1TB, 2TB storage options.

My predictions based on my subjective opinions lol
11 inch pro will be rebranded as iPad Air.
Also, I don’t think apple would be too keen on the idea of dual booting macOS on ipad.. But, ipad pros being able to run some pro macOS apps natively would be a good compromise I think.
I think they’re still committed to their vision for ipad. I just think they don’t have a very clear idea of what that vision actually is. If you watched the recent ipad event it’s clear that by Pro they mean it’s a pro tool, but not a pro workstation. It’s meant to be a supplement to your professional work, but not the primary work machine.
IPad mini is probably going to get neglected again and won’t be updated for a long time.

A more powerful chip such as M1 or M2 would _not_ be required (my Apple TV with an A12 drives 4k60 just fine), although 8GB of RAM would be nice, not required; my 4GB x86 SBC runs those things (with the exception of LogicPro, of course!) just fine.
It would not need a larger battery or storage, since it would always be docked with the monitor when asked to work a little harder.
The reason I’d like a mini instead of a Pro of some kind is, when not connected to a monitor, I primarily want to use it as a book reader, with occasional video watching thrown in; I don’t need it to be high-powered (or 120 Hz for that matter).
Most of these changes would be software, with the exception of making the USB-C port support 4k60 DisplayPort, and possibly 8GB RAM, so it wouldn’t cost Apple much, but I would easily pay $800 (or maybe $1000 w/8GB) for such a device.

While I dont agree with the MacOS bit I do believe that the Pro line of iPads should be freed from the app store and have access to 3rd party pro level apps. The app store is far to restrictive for developers to both create the apps we want and update existing apps. I feel this method wont fundamentally change what an iPad is while giving it a lot more space to come into its own.
I also disagree with the pro sizing. The 12.9 inch is the size of a laptop. That does not sound fun to lug around at all. The 11in pro should definitely stay as its the perfect size for most people. Not so big that its cumbersome as it can still fit in some small sling bags yet not too small making it to do real work on.

I agree with you on the pro, pro should only be in one size and the biggest size. the mini is fine, although I wish they have a keyboard for it to. I know some people might say its stupid because the mini is to small, but a lot of kids us the mini and keyboard would be great. the Apple Pencil 1 needs to go, I agree. I hate the fact that they still have that. I hate the new 10th Gen iPad with the damn adapter to charge the pencil, but other then that its spot on.
I don't really agree with you on Mac OS, but like give us more PCs features on iPad OS. Not just a blown up version of IOS
This goes for not just iPads but iPhones too. Apple needs to keep a small enough iPad size with a home button. Why, because that would be great and Carter to the elderly community. My Grandma for example, Loves her iPad mini. Unfortunately she has to keep the one with a button because the swipe up thing Is just to complicated for her; it overwhelms her.
Also Apple needs to keep an iPhone with a button, yes there's the SE but it needs to be a bit bigger. My grandma, again loves the bigger sizes. not to big like the plus models or pros, but like 6, 7, 8s were a great size she tells me all the time.
I'm not saying Apple needs to update these often, just enough to stay up with todays speed and Technology.

How I’d fix the iPad lineup:
With the same iPad Pros (though with the option to switch between iPadOS and a MacOS-like interface when connected to a monitor like Samsung Dex),
The iPad Air replaced by an iPad 11th gen that’s basically the Air 5th with a new chip and same iPad 10 price point,
Still sell the iPad 9 for a bit, and of course, keep the iPad Mini the same but with 120Hz refresh rate.
Edit: bump everything to 128 GB storage minimum, iPad Pros to 256 GB minimum, and iPad 11 at iPad 10 price with 60Hz alone.

they should bring back the 12 inch macbook as the new macbook air because the apple silicon would be perfect for that form factor.
also its a middle ground cuz we lost the 11 inch air which was perfect for a lot of people.
then the current 13inch macbook air becoming the macbook because we need a base macbook.
finally the 14 and 16 inch being the only macbook pros as they are truly pro.
the 13 inch macbook pro is unnecessary, redundant, and not pro at all. bad design, bad value.

I’ve only got two disagreements 😅
    - I don’t think the Air should of ever had an M chip. That was a huge mistake, it has complicated the line up and given little reasons for anyone to buy a Pro unless they want to flex. The Air should have the latest A series chip and go back to being an AX chip.
    - Apple Pencil charging should be moved to the back in the same way Samsung Tab S8 does their pencil charging. That way the case can also cover the pencil and the cameras can stay in the middle

I think that a macOS lite that gets the Mac and iOS App Stores would be the move. I actually do all my work (accountant here) on an iPad Pro 11” running 16.2 beta. Before everyone jumps on me, I do have a MacBook Air and Win11 VM for those scenarios where I absolutely need a desktop app. But everything I do is cloud-based on the browser, so 99% of my job is just fine.
I think that this macOS lite would function similarly to Windows in S mode by not letting users download apps from the internet and would probably retain a similar touch-friendly interface.
As someone who literally uses iPadOS 10+ hours per day, I don’t see too many everyday limitations other than certain features around screen sharing (has to be the iPad screen which is annoying), the use of external cameras, and the inability to run desktop apps which in my case means the office suite, etc. and of course for others would be things like Final Cut and stuff like that. But imo as a longtime Mac user and now full time iPad user, the two OSes are very similar and all it would take would be minor pushes to add some of the macOS features to iPad for it to all work out.
Generally agree with the actual video though, I agree with a lot of people here that a smaller Apple Pencil that connects on the short side + the inclusion of a landscape camera for everything other than the mini would be a game changer. Freaking hate the awkward iPad camera placement.

Love the mini. If they could give it 120hz that would be awesome, BUT I do want them to put an M series chip in so it can do proper Stage Manager. Being able to hook that up to a separate keyboard, mouse and monitor (I work across a few different sites) wherever and whenever would be superb. Although it can't do it all, there is so much it can do that having something that small that you can just plug in and work - that's the dream (well the iPhone version of that is the dream but no chance on that one!).

no more 11 inch Pro, also MacOS-iPadOS hybrid (because lets be real, MacOS is not coming to iPads anytime soon)
    iPad mini is great.
price ladders? I know they have to be there, soooooo just do it with storage, start the iPad (former Air) with 64gb and the Pros with 256gb. It also solves the issue that the iPad mini is in some aspects a more capable Product than the iPad gen. 10 because that is the SE line of products.
I think all of this would clean up the lineup quite a bit.

It doesn't make any sense to me a smaller iPad being more powerful than the standard iPad. Personally I would make the iPad mini the smaller version of the regular iPad, by putting the same hardware on both devices. iPad air could run the regular M series chips and for the pros, they would rock the M Pro chips and would receive a beefier iPadOS (or even the dual-boot), being sold with 12,9" and maybe a bigger 15/16" model.

iPad mini with ProMotion would be awesome. You mentioned that Stage Manager and an M series chip is not necessary on the iPad mini. I would have to disagree on this and I think Apple should go all out on the next generation. The reason is because foldable phones are pretty much Android versions of an iPad mini. The Z Fold4 is a perfect example of this and is better than the iPad mini in every way. Apple can easily counter this if they were to allow an iPad mini with an M series chip and can dual boot into macOS when docked to an external monitor. It would be game over for DeX if this happened.
