The 10.5 is the most beautiful iPad ever made. A substantial step to Pro due to it’s 120 Hz, 4 core CPU, thin bezel’s, great camera with flashlight and good storage (up to 512 GB 👉🏻 more than iPad Airs and Minis…6 (!!!) years later! Love my device! The power of the A10X is amazing 👍🏻

I got mine second hand for little over $300 on January 2020, and I never regretted it. What this thing has given me, especially during the pandemic when I was at college from home and had all those PDFs to study from and annotate, my goodness... Nothing else has been a better tech purchase for me. Sad to know its days are coming to an end cause the hardware is so good, I don't feel like I need to upgrade yet. I kept recommending it for students everywhere because of how affordable and reliable it was. Absolutely loved it

This ipad still rocks, i just went to the native apple smart cover for it, and feels like a new device. I previously had more bulky 3rd party cases.
I just did a photo shoot on Sunday, and the ability to upload all the photos onto my 256 gb 10.5 inch was great, i could review the shots while at dinner and work from there. Its truly an awesome device. I wish it had usb-c, but when im honest with myself thats really all im missing.

I’ve been using this ipad since 2018 and it’s just a great device IMO, still feels fast and smooth in use and has all the features I want like proper speakers, great screen with pro-motion, pencil and smart keyboard support (both of which I use all the time) - there’s literally nothing else I really need from the newer models. I think the real limitation on future ios support tends to be memory, and as this has 4GB - twice a lot of its contemporary devices - I think it’s shoe-in for ios 17 and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it got 18 as well. I remember buying this ipad to replace my four year old first gen iPad Air, which had become laggy and terrible to use at that point - five years later my 10.5” is still an absolute pleasure to pick up and use every day.

I have this iPad since launched and I have to say, it's the best, he was my companion during lockdown, my tool at college and the device I used for pretty much everything, at the point that my pc became a dust collecting machine. Now my 10.5 inch iPad Pro is having battery issues and I'm heading for the renewed 11 inch iPad Pro with the A12Z chip.
But yeah, the 10.5 was and still is a great choice

I used mine up until early this year when I moved to the M2 12" Pro. I would've stuck with it longer, but I used it so heavily with multi-tasking stuff that it kept crashing (presumably from running out of RAM). Now it's doing just fine as my dad's magazine, Solitaire, and RUclips machine.

I picked up the 10.5" Pro at launch as a drawing tablet / laptop replacement. I still use it to this day. 512gb and LTE. I almost always have it with me and use it for remote work, drawing, media consumption. It's even been great for gaming! I paired a PS4 controller to it for remote play. I even had Retroarch side-loaded onto it for a while. Even if it becomes a consumption-only device, I won't be getting rid of this one anytime soon.

Great video, Drew! One thing worth noting though, is that at 11:08 you *were* correct in saying that iPads from 2020 didn’t get Stage Manager and external display support (at first). Apple, however responded to people’s complaints and released a slightly more limited version of Stage Manager to all Face ID iPad Pros (possibly others 2018+). I know this as I use a 2018 11” and have the option for it.That said, I don’t think they gave older iPads the improved display support.

I’m honestly amazed and perplexed how future proofed the 10.5in ipad pros were I honestly didn’t even know they had pro motion until recently, I thought that came on the 2018 iPad Pro redesign. The idea alone that this iPad also had a special type of lighting that is much faster that isn’t even on the iPhone is perplexing. I guess this iPad really was a pro device I can definitely see this being super enticing over an intel MacBook back in the day, even if it ment dealing with the lack of things like a proper file management system or a terminal.

I’ve used the 10.5” iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil throughout all of my university years and it helped me a lot. The downside is that I’ve used it so much that the battery deteriorated tremendously, I took it to an Apple Store and for some reason their equipment was not registering that the battery was below 80% (even though it definitely was, I’ve checked with coconut battery, but they were seeing it was at 88%). The battery got so bad I had to replace it with a used M1 iPad Pro at the end of last year. It also had white spots on the display, which apparently is a common issue with this iPad.

Apple measurements of the battery life are not the same as Coconut or iMazing. They are much higher. You'll get under 80% when Coconut say 60-70%. Often the devices becomes vintage/obsolete (no more battery replacements possible) before they gets under 80% with their measurement system.

I've been using it for a little over 5 years now. It still holds up pretty well except for battery life. I've used it quite often so it's natural that my battery health would be a lot lower, a simple battery replacement should fix it. I still think that there is no real reason to upgrade from it to the newer ones, if you want to do anything more demanding then just get a Mac or upgrade your current Mac. I love this iPad and I can see myself using it for another good 5 years or more as long as I replace its battery at least once.
I get about 2h30m of use when doing some light gaming or a little longer when I'm using the Apple Pencil (I'm a composer so I use the Goodnotes 5 app to write my music scores before I engrave the on my Mac, I'd sometimes write music 3 hours straight or longer hence I use my Apple Pencil continuously during that time). If I replace my battery I'm sure I'd close to 7-9 hours of usage or more, like it did when I first got it.

It's either that or the software update, the battery life is doing a lot better and a complete non-issue now. I even started using it with no auto-lock for work so the display stays on for a long time. Not sure what my battery capacity would be like but given its age, definitely before 80% but somehow even that gets me through the day or many times even 2 days. I get about 6-7 hours use on moderate to heavy usage. So on days with light usage its even better.

I got mine in February of 2019 and I’ve felt no desire to upgrade, up until now. The battery is shot and because I got the 64gb model, the storage is almost full. I’m planning to upgrade to a certified refurbished M1 11” iPad Pro later this year and give the 10.5” to my mum as an upgrade from her iPad Air 2

.After the first release, a little over a year after purchase, there was a white spot problem, so I used it more and eventually sold it at a bargain price. After that, the performance is good, but I'm not sure about the quality, so I'm not using the iPad.,. I heard that the problem still occurs often..

I’ve had my 10.5” for 5 years now and it’s been great, although in the past few years it’s really aged badly… the white spot on the green is annoying and the battery life is awful - can’t last more than an hour without dying. The design still looks great and the ProMotion is still excellent

Same case with mine. The screen white spot and battery has aged badly.. the charging port was broken and got replaced last year, the repair shop did an awful job and break the rear camera while doing the repair. Luckily i rarely use the rear cam. So the front cam still going strong for zoom meeting.

I probably would be using my 10.5” to type this now but… mine developed that white ‘hot-spot’ an inch or so above the button, and also screen no response touch issues. Apple replaced it once as a favor even without APPLE Care, but that developed the same problems. Time to get ride of that model even thought it was fine in every other way. On a M1 Pro now, which has some advantages working with my MBP M1, and software, but it’s also been replaced for no response screen issues! At least that replacement wasn’t a problem, learned my lesson and APPLE Care warranty this time.

Using the same ipad, got mine in early 2019 refurbished for about 300 bucks. I am not a heavy user so satisfied with the performance. Only issue is the white spot and battery. I will more than likely replace it next year before the battery gets too bad... debating between a refurbished ipad air 4 or 2021 ipad pro 11, currently about 120 price difference on the refurbished market... Experience with this a10X chip has taught me that Apple's hardware will outlast the battery. Performance for my use case will remain solid from how this 6 year old chip still performs for me, which is why i don't really care for the pro/m1 versions since i know the battery will be what really causes me to "upgrade"..

In addition the iPad was so new it only had 3 charge cycles and I know this because I checked it by connecting it with iMazing. And I was still able to add Apple Care+. So he literally owned it like less than a month lol since Apple only gives you 30 days to add Apple care after you purchasing the iPad.
