  • In this week's episode, I go through all the main tools I use to paint a helmet. Tape, blades, airbrushed, paint guns. All in details, why I like or hate them. I also have a special guest fresh off a series of races. Enjoy!

Immediately put this tie wrap around my exacto knife! Now I don't have to worry anymore about this thing piercing my feet... Great to see you're back with the vlog, Patrice!

Toujours un plaisir de suivre tes vidéos. Pour le spray c’est génial pour le dégraissant, mais le diluant nettoyant risque d’attaquer les joints à l’intérieur.

Effectivement, il faut s'en tenir à la surface externe du casque. Merci encore.

Patrice, watching your vlog kinda makes me want to try and paint again. I spent a lot of money on my Sata Minijet 4 and it just sits in my toolbox lol

It's hard to get started when all your tools and paint are not right there ready! When you have a dedicated space with everything close at hand, it's motivating.

Wish I had your videos back when I started painting helmets - it would have saved a lot of time! Still, it's good to see behind the scenes and pick up some tips too. Keep the videos coming Patrice! 🙌

I started these videos as a way to educate customers on how complicated and time-consuming painting a helmet can be. It's turning out to be a painting class more than anything else! Thank you for the nice comments. Cheers.

The setup of my paint booth would be a 2 videos series in itself honestly! This thing was fabricated from scratch. I will try to find the time one day.

(Really hope you’ve got the time to read, would be very helpful 😅)
Hi Patrice, I made a helmet myself with spraycans, which resulted in now doing a racing helmet for somebody else the coming weeks!
I’ve done a lot of research in the past months, by which your videos are extremely helpful (even made my own horizontal liner tool 😄).
However there are 3 things I really couldn’t find out myself, and I hope you can help me answering them…
The helmet I did with spraycans showed some cracking paint removing the tape. Now the work is a bit more serious with 2k primer/clear and 1k colors; do you know whether there’s the need to remove/change tape in between layers or earlier in the drying process after spraying primer, color & clear coats to prevent cracks appearing near these taped lines?
Another thing I have a hard time about is the rubber liners on the helmet; taping it is quite tedious, especially the visor rubber… I see soms people removing them, however no content of putting it back. I question the possibility of putting the removed liner back as neat as it looked before… also on the tight part between the shell and (in my case) nonremovable inner parts of the helmet
At last; is there any special glue/material you recommend putting back the air vents and rubbers?
Would be a relieve having some tips from THE expert 😆 before working out the helmet, thank you very much! And not to forget; keep up the good work, it’s mesmerizing!

Hi Thomas, thank you for your message. I suggest you check out this video I did earlier ruclips.net/video/Rc0v0YAq4eg/видео.html that explain how to mask the rubber trims. You will notice that I finish the masking with a 1/4 inch tape on teh border of the trim. This tape is removed and changed after each major step in the process. I change it after the primer (if I prime the helmet) and I will change it between the first and second clear. Of course removing the rubber is the best option but it can have serious consequences fi you damage it or it's not properly replaced. As for regluing the vents, you should use a 2 sides foam or plastic tape. Fot the rubber, I use Loctite quick glue. In the case of the glue, I heard from a Loctite representative one day: " Less is more". Put very little glue for a better hold. I hope my answers will help you. Goos luck with your project. Cheers.

Thanks for your elaborate answer! Just started painting, and already appears to be somewhat more difficult than I assumed it to be… Looking forward to your coming videos to keep learning. Thumbs up!
