hey man, you got it!! I always try to find the best and cheapest solution to these RC issues, so far my fax has held up just fine. thanks for watching.
@@hybrid32494 Hey I think mine is broke. When I roll it on the floor and hold the shaft it stops spinning. I bought it used the slipper clutch was so tight they broke a clutch plate. I drive it because of the stripped spur gear and the clutch. If I send a video can you please check it out? I bought it for my son used it was supposed to need a shock that's it. But a 2wd stampede Vxl with ez peak plus and a nimh.
That happened to me and I took my car to the hobby shop and they wanted me to buy a whole transmission for like 100 and it was that litle problem but thank you
Thank you man. I’ve been messing with my slash for days trying to figure out the problem. I didn’t want to have to take apart the transmission but if it needs to be done it needs to be done. You’re a life saver . Very good and informative video.
Perfect ! I had the same problem, it happened a 2nd time to my Slash...Sooo...Here's the permanent fix. Clean the shaft/gear and roll pin thoroughly (brake Kleen/Acetone/), try using a small socket to tap/ push the gear down about 1/4", clean the shaft, roll pin, and roll pin hole thoroughly, make sure no grease/oil anywhere. Put one drop of RED loctite in roll pin hole and one drop on the shaft, re-seat the gear and roll pin and re-assemble. Don't worry !! It can be dis-assembled , if need be. The trick to removing RED Loctite is patience, a little heat or Acetone to let it soak, then can be removed. Since I did this, I haven't had it happen again and it's been months. Thanks for posting this ! Hope my fix helps too. RED Loctite is VERY strong, but great for press fit METAL parts that may have tolerance issues. Just don't use it on any screws/plastic that may have to be removed at some point. The BLUE Loctite is great for almost any other parts that come loose on your car and is made to be removable. The KEY to using ANY Loctite is to be sure the parts are absolutely clean and degreased before applying it.
good suggestion, thanks!!. so far my slash has been fine, This usually only happens around once a year, not the worst issue, you know. Ofourse one time the pin snapped off completely, needed replacement that time.
Make sure you have the 2 washers installed. One on each side of the gear. That takes up the slack in the shaft and keeps the pin in the slot on the gear. The idler gear has 2 washers also. 1 on each side. That’s how my new one is set up in 2022. Hope this helps someone.
I was just staring at my gearbox trying to figure out why things aren't catching I thought it was my bearings were worn but my rustler is about 2 months old finally I realized The Idler gear pin is not there like it never had one thank you for this video for real
Thank you! This was my exact problem! Unfortunately my roll pin broke, so I need to order a new one, but your video really helped me to figure out what was going on. Basically, after the clutch removal, nothing should have been "slipping". But it was. Awesome video!
hey man! I'm very glad this helped you out. I had the roll pin snap also previously. You really could use a piece of a body clip instead of the roll pin if you need an instant on the go repair. But the new input shaft is cheap enough that it's easy to just purchase it and be done, you know. Thanks for watching!!.
My son had a db10 reflex. His friend rammed into the back of his and it was a hard hit. Now it makes a funny sound. I did check under the gear cover and everything seemed fine. I am new to this and don't have a hobby shop to take it to in the town I live in. I have a video of the sound and can take pictures. I have compared it to other sounds I have heard on here but can't find an exact match. Thank you for the help before hand.
Thank you soo much I had this same problem on my xl 5 rustler and I. Could not find a video on it but the slash has the same transmission and I took my transmission apart many times gears look fine they didn't look striped, I bought a new clutch did nothing still didn't move, and while watching this video from what you said on the input shaft my pin is missing in the inside, it must have broke and when I took the transmission apart it probably fell out but now I know it was a missing pin, thank you soo much I could not find any info for a week until I stumbled across this video
Thanks! Perfect tutorial! This happened to me last night. Back up and running! My pin was not even visible. It was perfectly seated inside the roll bar? Had to get small nail to force it out of the hole before I leveled it up to the groove in the gear!
I keep on breaking that pin… I just replaced it for probably the 7th or 8th time and I’m getting sick of it! Btw your video had been great help in fixing it, but is there anything that I can do to stop breaking that pin without upgrading to the drag slash transmission
hey buddy! Glad to have helped you out! I still own this exact slash and it's fine. Once in a while this will be an issue, but keep in mind I'm running a highly powerful castle system, so I dont blame the slash..
Just made a drill bit piece for my slash. It fixed the piece that was broken. Funny thing the original piece broke just driving easy on the 50/50 setting. I hope it is good for a long time to come. It broke WAY to FAST. What's up with that. Lol. Thanks for the info bro. 👊😎
hybrid32494 I doubt it was faulty. I was told that is the weakest link in the transmission design to break. Hence it's a shear pin. Why it is soooo soft is beyond me but now this drill bit won't break just cause damage down the line once it goes boom and the pin jammes into spooled up gears.
it don't matter if you added loctite I think, it won't help much anyway. We both run our slash with too much power and too much motor (in my case). Thats prob why this happens. You should be ok for a while, As long as the pin itself does not snap (like mine once did). IF it does you will need the full traxxas input shaft with roll pin. (cost like 4 bucks).
hey dude! you got it! Glad this video helped you out! Ive had this happen 3 times so far, with the power full upgraded electronics and big wheels this is inevitable, you know . Luckily it's a cheap fix.
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that you helped me. Thank you so much, subbed! PS. It would be better if the video wasn't fast forwarded, but it was still helpful to me!
glad to help, thanks for watching. That seems to be a common issue in these, Especially if you run a very high powered motor and larger wheels. Like I am.
Like many others I suspect this has broken on my Rustler 2wd VXL. I fitted some slightly bigger, knobby rear tyres and a 3S battery. First run on a grassy field and it broke. I don't have a LHS so need to order a shaft for delivery and it's a long weekend here :-/. Before I strip this down can anyone tell be if the roll pin is a similar size to a wheel hex pin? Thanks for the video, was really helpful.
hey my dude! whats up! Yes it's a similar size, but to be honest with you getting the original one out isn't easy, just get yourself this new part for a couple bucks and it'l be fine. But you could fabricate your own too.
hey man!! LOL, thank you. I usually get that I sound like the actor from "everybody loves Raymond" or Christopher walken, ahhaha. Hope you check out my newer videos, I'm sure you'll like them. I baked a nitro engine in the oven after I accidentally drove my revo into the ocean.

Seems to be a recurring problem for me also. This time the roll pin was gone so I'm trying a piece of a thick body clip covered in JB weld hopefully I'll get some life out of it. Do you know of any upgrade parts that get rid of that roll pin or are stronger than stock? 👍
When I press gas just a little and hold one wheel the other one goes. Not sure what it is but it would help alot if you could help. It drives but if it gets stuck only 1 wheel goes.
hey!! thanks for watching! So these models along with all hobby grade rcs have a differential. Since it's an open gear diff you will always experience this. This is normal. If you push down on the car and spin the spur gear with your finger you will notice that only at this point will both of the wheels spin together and create traction. Unless you get a locked diff, it will always be life this.
@@hybrid32494 okay. Also when I hold the rear end down to the ground it feels normal (I don't know how to explain it) and if I do full throttle it makes a very faint click noise and it sounds like a gear almost. I will take apart the transmission later and check the gears. Also your videos are very informational and I like them alot and the humor. Also the old rcs you buy off eBay, one day I plan on building from a roller and up. One day.......
Also when I push the truck forward the diffs make a clunking sound. Not to sure if it was like that when I got it . Also got it used for 200 with everything except the original box. I could have gotton a nitro speed a6 or something for just 50 less and was MINT and came with few tanks of gas. Couldn't believe it.. too bad
Is the car you're referring to a 2WD slash? or is it a 4WD slash? Eitherway, first check to make sure your slipper clutch is not loose. Just tighten it up with the nut on the spur gear shaft itself. That might solve it. It's pretty rare to have a 2WD slash with a stripped diff, but it happens.
hey buddy! This past isn't that easy to break unless you're running a powerful motor and larger tires, like I am. Anyway, I recommend loosening the slipper a little to allow a bit of slip. Otherwise you'll just have to run easier in general.
hey buddy! Welcome to the Channel, glad to have you here! I still have this slash btw and the trans is still going strong! nothing wrong. I even drove it in alot of snow.
Hay bro question for you. I have a 1/10 slash VXL and when I drive in loose dirt and wet dirt I get a NASTY grinding in the rear end. And I can't place it. It only happens after a spin in the dirt then I pick up the cars back wheels and spin it up fast and the grinding/ knocks go away. Any ideas Bro. Have u had this happen to your slash. I would love to know why it happens and if it is normal or not.
hey buddy!!! it sounds like you need to check your gear mesh with the spur and pinion gear. Have you done this? Usually small dirt like sand and stuff will get in there and make grinding noises, Try to put some WD-40 on the spur as well. Usually this is always the case, let me know if this helps.
hybrid32494 okay so if I said there was a set plate to set the spacing for the spur and pinion. And yes the spacing is tight as heck andbit can not be loosened up. Unless that spacer comes out to allow gear mesh adjustments. So the right gear is chewing up dirt. An it goes away when I full the throttle full blast. I can see that. Thanks for the more clear direction to look at what is causing this to happen. Thanks bigtime bro. If I fix the issue with your advice I will DEFINITELY give you the Credit all over RUclips. ❤️👊😎
Yes I did check and the spacer holds the pinion tight as heck. But how does dirt get in there. It was as clean as clean can be inside the slipper Case. So I am at a loss as to why this is happening.
you need to do some baseline testing. I recommend you remove the spur cover in the back, and full throttle with the wheels of the ground before you get it dirty. There should not be any grinding with this controlled test. When you put the cover back on, make sure it's screwed on tightly and if you want put some hot glue all around to make sure it's sealed, there is an opening at the bottom near the A-Arm, usually dirt gets in there. Let me know.
hybrid32494 On it Bro. Ahh thank you that is a great idea. I see the hole in it I'm going to hot glue this one and buy a rpm sealed cover. Yes it was dirt flying up in there and making the noise. Thanks for the help 👊😎
hey my dude!! There are pins which are threaded though the diff itself, this is how the driveshaft Is held onto the diff outdrives themselves. Take a close look, a 2MM hex should work to remove the cross pins. They are tough to see, and there will be a notch one one side of the gearbox which will let you get the hex driver in there.
I have had this problem. I have no clue what it is as I have replaced EVERYTHING in my transmission and yet it still happens. Please help as I am going insane trying to fix it.
hey bro! I would say just get a replacement and go a little easier on the system in general. I know you wanna full throttle it 100% at all times, but try like 90% lol. Also you could lower the punch settings on the ESC to reduce some of the initial drivetrain shock. I normally run about 50% punch, makes it much more drivable, but ofcourse almost no wheelies off the line.
I have a traxxas slash 2wd that when I throttle I can hear the motor spin but the traxxas doesn't move😥 Would it be the same thing that happened to yours?
hey man!! It's possible. the first thing you need to check is to make sure your clipper clutch is tight enough and the nut is not loose at all. Then check to see if your motor pinion set screw did not fall out. LEt me know after you do this, I'll make more suggestions.
I opened up the pinion gear and the big one wasnt making contact with the small one but then noticed that it was on a certain part of the big pinion gear and it was beat up
hey man! Yes, that is highly possible, you could have lost the pin or that pin could have broken and fell out, I've had that happen too. No big deal. You can make one with a body clip. You would be surprised how strong the thicker body clips are.
@@hybrid32494 I opened up the transmission earlier and the pin was broken in half I found a new one on eBay for 3$ so imma just use that thanks for the great vid it was very helpful
hey buddy! The transmission is different on the 4X4 Model, there is an input shaft too but it also goes through the spur gear and there is a slipper clutch built in. Make sure non of your pins in any of the axles are missing and that your slipper is tight. Best idea is to do process of elimination.
Ugh…… if this is not my problem im gana be pissed. Literally just put in a brushless vxl 30 min ago. And after a few runs its doing this. Cleaned my gears re checked the mesh. It makes a nasty clicking noise and seems to be slipping
hey bro! I hear you, I've had an issue with this a few times. Ofcourse I'm running a 5200KV castle system on 3S with huge rear tires, you know. What can you expect. At least the entire input shaft and roll pin in only like 4 bucks.
On pavement, mine will do it with just a few wheelies. I think the play from the heated bearing indented into the case a bit too so I ordered a RPM case and shaft with rollpin. Should fix it
I just had the EXACT same thing happen today, after pulling it apart it was the tiny pin on the input shaft that sheared off. I'm running a 2s lipo with castle 3200kv motor and copperhead 10 esc. It rips, but I think it's too much power..... lame. Anyways check the pin like this video and hopefully it doesn't break again!
hey man!! Did you use a thick enough piece of metal to wedge in there? Mine is honestly still perfect, and I've bashed it many times with a 3S. I guess it's not that hard to just buy a new one at this point, you tried!! good job anyway.
@@hybrid32494 hey thanks for the reply! So found the problem bought it used and the guy before me broke that pin and just replaced the shaft and left pieces of the pin inside the transmission getting caught in the gears got it all clean put it back together but after about 5 minutes of run time I broke the pin lol should be back up again monday
hey buddy! Sounds like you have a drivetrain problem. Check your drive line, starting with the driveshafts, the wheel hubs, the spur gear. You could have broken or be missing something that is causing no power transfer to the other wheel.
hey my dude! Yes, this must be it! Once you've eliminated a weak slipper clutch as being the problem, this is the new thing to check. It's a cheap part an an easy fix. Good luck!.
it's probably stuck somehow and mixed in with the gear oils in the transmission case, it's tiny, you prob won't even see it unless you really look for it well. You need the whole input shaft with the pin. cost about 4 bucks new.
I really want to like this. It goes so fucking fast it's useless. I can't find a video as to the size the bolts have to be for the rear bumper and how it attaches. I put this whole truck back together after a sibling dismantled it and can't figure out the bumper.

I would have loved the nitro!! I am going mostly nitro these days, and gas rcs.
Awesome thank you.
You bet!
I also have a similar problem every time I put it back in it works but only for like 2 minutes them stops moving again should I get another one
hey man!! Mine has been fine so far, no issues. I would highly recommend you just buy a new part, they are really cheap for what this is.
I have this problem too so I got a new one and literally ten minutes in, it broke again! What do I do?
hey buddy! This past isn't that easy to break unless you're running a powerful motor and larger tires, like I am. Anyway, I recommend loosening the slipper a little to allow a bit of slip. Otherwise you'll just have to run easier in general.
@@hybrid32494 OK! thanks.
Is the Emaxx the same???
Helped A Lot Bro Thanks Also Did You Hear About The New Subscriber You Just Earned ;) Keep Up The Good Work
How did u get the drive shaft off the transmission like before u opened it
hey my dude!!
@@hybrid32494 I have another question what is the pine called like the number
If that’s not the issue what els coudl it he ??
I have had this problem. I have no clue what it is as I have replaced EVERYTHING in my transmission and yet it still happens. Please help as I am going insane trying to fix it.
Switched to a slipper delete then this happened on a 3300kv motor debating on fixing or just getting the new Magnum 272R trans
I have a traxxas slash 2wd that when I throttle I can hear the motor spin but the traxxas doesn't move😥 Would it be the same thing that happened to yours?
i think so
hey man!! It's possible. the first thing you need to check is to make sure your clipper clutch is tight enough and the nut is not loose at all. Then check to see if your motor pinion set screw did not fall out. LEt me know after you do this, I'll make more suggestions.
I opened up the pinion gear and the big one wasnt making contact with the small one but then noticed that it was on a certain part of the big pinion gear and it was beat up
So I'm thinking of buying a new one for my slash
until i roughed up the area and used red lock tight on the gear i was snapping those pins. now very hard for the gear to move at all/
you should do also electric bro
I had the same problem and I am pretty sure my pin snaped because I can take out the entire slipper clutch and there’s no pin
Does this work on a 4wd mines doing the same thing
hey buddy! The transmission is different on the 4X4 Model, there is an input shaft too but it also goes through the spur gear and there is a slipper clutch built in. Make sure non of your pins in any of the axles are missing and that your slipper is tight. Best idea is to do process of elimination.
It spins like it’s not letting my drive shaft engage
hello i have the same issue but i looked and the part is correctly placed so i don't know what's wrong ...
Will this be the same for 2wd stampede
hey buddy!!. This Rc in my video is a 2 wheel drive model.
This guy is good sh…..
Lol hey my dude!! I hope that a good thing!! ahaha. Anyway I hope this video helped you out!!
Ugh…… if this is not my problem im gana be pissed. Literally just put in a brushless vxl 30 min ago. And after a few runs its doing this. Cleaned my gears re checked the mesh. It makes a nasty clicking noise and seems to be slipping
Ive broke that roll pin so many fkm times like 7-8 times
Should fix it
my slash 2wd vxl spur gear is popped out away from the transmission and not aligned with the pinion gear. could it be that the input shaft is bad?
I just had the EXACT same thing happen today, after pulling it apart it was the tiny pin on the input shaft that sheared off. I'm running a 2s lipo with castle 3200kv motor and copperhead 10 esc. It rips, but I think it's too much power..... lame. Anyways check the pin like this video and hopefully it doesn't break again!
@@gavinc.9785 so far I installed the traxxas pin back and new input shaft and no problem after.
Sure its fixed but its going to do it again if you dont put some 5mm shims in there to take up the play
hey man!! Surprisingly this issue has not come back. Although you're right, the shims would help as well.
Where would these 5mm shims go, please help me
Do you know the diameter of that pin?
This happens to me but the pin keeps on coming out I had to keep on putting it back for like three times already
Ugh okay same problem but after a couple minutes of run time it pops back out new shaft and washers on its way
So found the problem bought it used and the guy before me broke that pin and just replaced the shaft and left pieces of the pin inside the transmission getting caught in the gears got it all clean put it back together but after about 5 minutes of run time I broke the pin lol should be back up again monday
bah, mine snapped,
day two. on 2s
bummer.
need something stronger
My pin keeps braking on my too
Please please help me my nitro stampede 2wd when I move one wheel the other wheel will not move at all
hey buddy! Sounds like you have a drivetrain problem. Check your drive line, starting with the driveshafts, the wheel hubs, the spur gear. You could have broken or be missing something that is causing no power transfer to the other wheel.
@@hybrid32494 I picked it up off the ground and pulled the the throttle and it goes but when there it’s on the ground it does not move what can I do
I had to buy a new gear and new shaft and beet it on with a hammer had pilers
Think this is the issue I'm having. Everything looks good but it acts like it's slipping
hey my dude! Yes, this must be it! Once you've eliminated a weak slipper clutch as being the problem, this is the new thing to check. It's a cheap part an an easy fix. Good luck!.
@@hybrid32494 After further investigation, it seems I have stripped out the hex on my wheel
Damn this was my problem
Mine doesn’t spin
There’s not even a pin on mine
there has to be a pin, how is the metal gear being fixated on the shaft then? Unless your just sheared of and you cant tell its there.
hybrid32494 yea it broke off but I couldn’t find any pieces of it
it's probably stuck somehow and mixed in with the gear oils in the transmission case, it's tiny, you prob won't even see it unless you really look for it well.
There are assembly manuals for all models on traxxas.com in the support section.
After all that you didn't put shims in it to tighten up Dude.
hey buddy!!, The slash has been fine since, and I abuse it pretty good. Shims were not needed. But good idea. thanks.
You need some actual tools
I don’t mind the music in this video TOO much because you’re not talking or driving it while it’s playing
Oof so I thought that was my issue but actually the bearing melted and melted the plastic around it as well
