That was a clear and useful tutorial. It is super easy to do following your instructions. I probably wouldn't even tried by myself if i didn't stumble on your vids. Good job ! Thank you !
I have just started watching your tutorials 6 years later. I am pleased to have come across your channel. Its a great learning experience. thank you for you indepth programs. You are a great asset to the rc world.
Not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you're bored like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother recently xD
I have only been into the RC hobby with my son for the past three months. And it's been a blast. I have to say I have learned a tremendous amount about the cars and how they work thanks to your easy to follow videos. Thanks for the great videos, it is greatly appreciated.
I just wanted to say that I just followed all three of your videos in this series and went through the steps in "real time" and it worked out perfectly. Thank you!
Awesome how-to video... I'm a bit of a newbee to the RC hobby, so I'm looking and learning. My son and I were driving his new Rustler VXL Xmas gift and "dad" hit a fence post snapping off the rear gear box/wheel connect point and rear wheel. Ooops. So now after watching this video I know how to pull apart the gear box to switch out the new one. Very descriptive and easy to follow, and a big time/head ache saver. Also, my son and I are back on the road again. THANK YOU!!!
These videos are SO stinking helpful. Thank you so much darkeclipticheart. Because of these videos and your other ones, I know how to take apart every single part of my rustler. Thanks a bunch and keep up the good work, I can tell you put a lot of thinking and time into your videos. Your channel is basically an in-depth instruction manual of videos for almost anything rustler related, and your other cars.
thanks for these series of videos really helped with my stampede 2wd vxl found out why it was clicking and replaced a gear in my diff, these videos are very well made and informative i am letting my other rc buddies who just started to check them out, again thanks man
It should have a black cap at the end of it. You can pop that thing off. Just use your thumps and push the cap at where the cables come out. Under the cap you will see letters. Here's what they mean. A=Blue, B=Yellow, C=White. Hope that helps.
Nice.great job explaining.cant get no easier than that...but I have a lock spool and it still slips not the spool. but the slipper gear does all tighten down on the slipper and back off half a turn.and still slips
Dude I found out how to make it so the vxl3s's easy set dutton not get stuck! Just go buy some platidip or liquid tape from a hard ware store, just ask them for a rubber dip that you would dip a tool in. Get a small brush to and just take it dip the brush in the dip and brush it on the button! It won't stick the button down! You'll still be able to push it down just fine! Hope this helped
I usually just drill it out with a small bit. It usually destroys what the grub screw is in but removing a stripped grub screw is a pain. If you want to, try using a bigger sized torx screwdriver. That sometimes works.
It could be a couple things. First the grub screw on the pinion is loose and it's spinning on the motor shaft. Or you could have lost the bar that goes under the slipperclutch. The diff gear could be stripped inside or the metal ring on the outside is loose. OR it could be the wheel hubs. Check them and see if they stripped or if one of the back wheels is loose. The driveshafts could have stripped too. If all that is fine then the motor or esc could be the colprit.
Take your diff apart and look at the gears as well as the slots the bars slide into. If anything is stripped, broken, or bent, it has to be replaced. Also make sure that the metal ring around the diff gear is still attached to the plastic part.
The gear with the long shaft that the slipper clutch/spur gear attaches to is the Drive gear. The one in the middle is the idler gear. The big one is the differential gear. What problem are you having with what gear?
hi thanks for this perfect video. I have a problem with my rustler vxl. when I push throttle IT sounds like something is wrong. traction is not good. Since I put 3s battery this issue is present. do you have some mail where I can send a small video? I am becoming crazy. thanks!
Hi I bought grease that is so thick that's its supposed to almost completely lock the differential. Where would I put it in? Do I do it like the white grease or can I just put it in the whole covered by electrical tape?
so, im planning to get the proline pro2, it has the proline gearbox for these vehicles.. and it says "extra 5,000wt oil included" which makes me assume its only got 5,000 weight diff oil but is says all the gear ratios are same as stock traxxas? is it gonna suck off road with that light weight oil? and can i just put traxxas silicon grease in it..
It is a long process but once you do it, it's not that hard. The first time you do it, it does take a long time but it gets easier each time you do it.
I didn't even know it came in a spray can. If its white lithium, I really don't see a difference between the two. However applying it could be a bit messy.
is my trans housing just old and abused? drive gear (im confident) is loose and spinning with everything attached, pinion and spur are meshed and spin but no power to wheels. or veerrry little.
its all good now it was actually the bar that holds the gear that the slipper clutch is on the gear inside the transmission is supposed to have a bar holding it so it doesn't turn but it kept turning so it wouldn't move but i have it temporarily fixed while i wait for the part to come in
Honestly -I- don't think that it would make a difference but any and all RC people I have talked to insist that you use white lithium. From what I can guess, white lithium is thinner and can handle higher speeds. Black grease isn't really meant for it. But that's just a guess.
i bought a stampede used today and it works fine but the guy had a brushless motor with it but not an esc for a brushless motor and i am going to pick up an esc soon but on the brushless motor the colors are wore off of the wire is there a way i can figure out which one goes to which wire on the esc?
Hi I used general purpose lithium grease for everything and when I was done and tried driving the car, everything seemed to work but it made a loud squeak noise
@darkeclipticheart ok then by chance do you know what gears will fit in my classic stampede? model 3610.... she is old but NOT stock lol i really wanna put an vxl in her but i cannot for the life of me figure out what parts i need to hop up =/
yes that help but today i was driving it around this was only my 3rd battery charge since buying it and it still had the brushed motor in it and it all of a sudden stopped moving and i thought it was the battery but that was fully charged then i thought it was the motor ran to the hobby shop bought a new brushed motor and that didn't work either then i cleaned out the transmission thinking that was it but that wasn't either when i pick up the back end the wheels turn when i set it down they dont
i use NLGI 3 lithium grease for the planet gears..cant be the same be applied for the outer diff in a smaller quatity instead of the white grease? whats the difference and any impact?
heeellllpppp.. your video was great. I took apart the tranny and your video was great. I purchased a new Differential and installed it. I am stumped... could it be the top gear or the idler gear?
Check out the exploded view of the the transmission. Check out Traxxas()com Products, select your model, downloads, exploded views, then transmission. Hope that helps
Even though this video is 10 yrs old, it was very helpful. Excellent detailed instructional video.
That was a clear and useful tutorial. It is super easy to do following your instructions. I probably wouldn't even tried by myself if i didn't stumble on your vids. Good job ! Thank you !
I totally agree. Perfectly done.
Really sad that it has not more likes.
Great work, helped me a lot.
Thanks. I'm glad to hear my vids help people out.
I have just started watching your tutorials 6 years later. I am pleased to have come across your channel. Its a great learning experience. thank you for you indepth programs. You are a great asset to the rc world.
All "how to" video should be made like this.👍🤘👌👊
Not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you're bored like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother recently xD
@Keanu Baker definitely, been using instaflixxer for since november myself :)
It didn’t help me
Probably the simplest video I have found on doing this. Thank you so much.
I have only been into the RC hobby with my son for the past three months. And it's been a blast. I have to say I have learned a tremendous amount about the cars and how they work thanks to your easy to follow videos. Thanks for the great videos, it is greatly appreciated.

I just got into the RC world and this video help me (the 3 parts of it) a lot!!! Thank you so much!
By far the best how to video on the transmission rebuild. Thank you !
The best “how to” videos! I’m working right along with my 2wd Stampede and did the same when I built the Hot Racing Differential Case.
This is an awesome video. It concisely covers all the steps and keeps the viewer interested. Good job.
One of the best youtube vids ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!!!!!! You saved me hours of frustration.
Good video, even after all these years you are helping people with it 👍

Thank you so much for this 3 part series. Super helpful and I have this saved for if I need to tear down my trans!!
Thanks for the time you've taken to make all of these. Extremely helpful!
thanks for these series of videos really helped with my stampede 2wd vxl found out why it was clicking and replaced a gear in my diff, these videos are very well made and informative i am letting my other rc buddies who just started to check them out, again thanks man
Glad to help and thanks for the support.
Thanks man my car wouldn’t work before and I followed this step by step and it works like new
dude you got the best how to videos
Just did this today, paper trick is very helpful.thanks again .
Wow!! Amazing job!!! I was feeling overwhelmed and you just made this job doable for me!! Thank you just liked and subbed!!!
That was an awesome video very informative and very easy to follow your stuff she should do many more
Thank you very much for taking the time and making this outstanding clear detailed video.

thanks dude i probably would not have figured out how to do this by myself
This is really well made, great job on this and thank you for making it.
@20CorvetteZr109 Yeah it took me nearly a day to do. But it is one of the most requested How To's out there. So I'm glad it's done with.
i would like to say your video was excellent thankyou.
Thanks so much i thought i was going to have to replace my motor again but all i had to do was clean the trannie and tighten my slipper clutch.
Nice.great job explaining.cant get no easier than that...but I have a lock spool and it still slips not the spool. but the slipper gear does all tighten down on the slipper and back off half a turn.and still slips
thank you very much this series of videos was awesome and made me save a lot of money.

Your videos are really helpful! I check 'em out every time I'm going to do something to my Digger and I'm not quite sure how to do it.
Awesome video man!

awesome man thanks for doing all of this much appreciated

Love your videos. Very easy to follow for a beginner. Would you not use thread lockers on the grub screw? Is the yoke on those plastic?
so far so good , i wonder if the sealed diff from the new magnum r transmission fits the regular magnum.
SHIT THAT WAS A LOT OF STEPS.
Thank you im kinda new and now know so much more
1st comment. You totally rock.
Love this series!!!!!!

Thank you so much.
The only problem is if you have a 90T spur than the motor has to go before the spur.
Thank you for the tutorial!
How often should you do this? GREAT videos
thanks good video worked well. I watched the parts I needed.
No problem. Hoped it helped.
good job, very imformative.

Awesome. Really good job.
Me gusta mucho como esplica todo desdes el principio gracias
Great video, Thanks.
Great tutorial. Thank you...

Great video guide, mate!
nice video! i have a rustler vxl . How often do you have to clean and grease the transmission and diffs? (i always go off-road, no water)
hi thanks for this perfect video. I have a problem with my rustler vxl. when I push throttle IT sounds like something is wrong. traction is not good. Since I put 3s battery this issue is present. do you have some mail where I can send a small video? I am becoming crazy. thanks!

The trans case cover is stock. It's just been painted. The shock springs come from the Integy Shock Spring Set.
Thank you so much that really helped 👍

I didn't even know it came in a spray can. If its white lithium, I really don't see a difference between the two. However applying it could be a bit messy.
Only thing I can think it would be is the screws in the diff are loose or the bearings need to be replaced.
Can you use white lithium spray? Or just the grease? Thx
just wanted to say thanks
One more question. When you plug in a fully charged battery, does the light on the esc turn green the red or does it goes straight to red?
Thx sooo much for your series😀😀😀😀😀😀
Is it okay if I use the same grease for both the diff and outer gears? I'm using black anti-wear lithium grease
Very helpful.
is my trans housing just old and abused? drive gear (im confident) is loose and spinning with everything attached, pinion and spur are meshed and spin but no power to wheels. or veerrry little.
if i was gonna go brushless would it be necessary to change the diff to metal if the drive and idle gear were already?
its all good now it was actually the bar that holds the gear that the slipper clutch is on the gear inside the transmission is supposed to have a bar holding it so it doesn't turn but it kept turning so it wouldn't move but i have it temporarily fixed while i wait for the part to come in
excellent videos ! how i can rebuild my transmission ! thanks for sharing !

how come you use torx bits instead of allen wrenches?
hey can i use the lithium grease between pinion and spur? will it give smoother ride or will it hurt the slipper clutch?
Hey bro, I just bought and upgraded a bandit. Now my trans is slipping. Can you check my video? I think I added too much lithium grease. Thanks.
@Tupples1 I've heard of people doing that. How well does it work?
It sounds like the LIpo Low Charge Detection is ON. Do you have a Velineon/Traxxas ESC?
Hi I used general purpose lithium grease for everything and when I was done and tried driving the car, everything seemed to work but it made a loud squeak noise
@darkeclipticheart ok then by chance do you know what gears will fit in my classic stampede? model 3610.... she is old but NOT stock lol i really wanna put an vxl in her but i cannot for the life of me figure out what parts i need to hop up =/
@austingost505 Yes, all the gears have to be metal.
i saw it in the hardware store..the spray can type..it is labled as lithium grease...i think it is liquid lithium grease..
Very helpful
yes that help but today i was driving it around this was only my 3rd battery charge since buying it and it still had the brushed motor in it and it all of a sudden stopped moving and i thought it was the battery but that was fully charged then i thought it was the motor ran to the hobby shop bought a new brushed motor and that didn't work either then i cleaned out the transmission thinking that was it but that wasn't either when i pick up the back end the wheels turn when i set it down they dont
Perhaps. I'll see what I can do.
i use NLGI 3 lithium grease for the planet gears..cant be the same be applied for the outer diff in a smaller quatity instead of the white grease? whats the difference and any impact?
where does the smaller screw go when screwing in the part with a bunch of long screws
It goes on the front part of the transmission. The side that faces the ESC. It goes in the corner. Its the thinnest part of the transmission.
Where can I buy that tube that the idler gear sits on? Cause if didn't come with the idler gear I bought
Jose Vizcarra The part number TRA#3691. You can find it on eBay easily. It has to be bought along with the Transmission Halves.
hey man, i was wondering if u could show me (or tell) me how to lock my diff on my 2012 vxl 2wd stampede
heeellllpppp.. your video was great. I took apart the tranny and your video was great. I purchased a new Differential and installed it. I am stumped... could it be the top gear or the idler gear?
you should make a video how to build a ecx ruckus 2wd transmission
Check out the exploded view of the the transmission. Check out Traxxas()com Products, select your model, downloads, exploded views, then transmission.
Hope that helps
hi, can i put a traxxas 1647 grease for the transmission gear?
i broke my slipper clutch and i have to take the whole transmission apart
no
