Thanks for this, I let my boy take the 1/10 Torment out in the snow and he managed to blow the motor and chew all the gears in the box up. Everything's pretty much the same despite the difference in brand, so now I've got the knowledge - now I'm gonna make *him* do all the work so he learns not to overspin the tires (and maybe learn a little about mechanics on the way).
Awesome video. I acquired a 1990's Hawk Truck and then damaged the differential. Your video most useful in figuring out what parts I needed and how to fix. it.
A little late but I rebuilt my trans using this video and I used the traxxas silicone grease as described in the video but it leaked everywhere leaving my diff dry. I have recently learned that the rustler stock diff isn't sealed so a thin grease or oil will just leak out. It seems a thicker grease like the one used in the video will work a lot better in the rustler diff.
Good vid. I did this to my stampede front and back. I took out the spider gears and cleaned everything with mineral spirits. But the little blue seals swelled up twice their size so I bought new seals and bearings and new grece.
Okay so I'm New to this, trying to help my grandkids. One tried for a few hours then I tried. I just can't get any tork. It all works in my hands. When I put it down the clutch just spins and I have tried it with the spring nut fully down/up it both the same. Some grease might have gotten on the slip clutch but I rub it off with cloth. I would like to give up. I might see about buying a new gearbox and clutch. Bug it would be better if I knew. Anyway best wishes and thanks for the videos
Hi! Thank you for the excellent tutorial! Can the Traxxas 2wd diffs also hold diff oil instead of grease, or will they become leaky messes with oil? I think diffs that can take oil have a paper gasket & little o-rings which I didn't see here. (And those can still be a leaky mess) Thanks again!
Late to the convo. But my 2wd vxl rustler clutch shaft roll pin keeps falling out of gear. I noticed theres no washer. Is washer needed to keep pin in the gear?? Thanks!
After all the time passed this video still helped me , so thanks. Also I wonder if you can help me, my rustler wont move when I put it down although the motor is spinning , when I left it up ,, only one wheel is spinning.
Hi - Just back in the Hobby after 20 years... (old RC10 guy)... I have a nearly stock Bandit that I will be club racing in a Hobby stock class Oval... Do you have a video for Hard surface Oval Suspension setup!? Wondering what you would suggest for med/advanced setup for limiters and oil on each corner!? Advise appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
very well done video! I have one question if you can answer it? I think my differential went out, its acting as if the slipper clutch is on loosely. but its tightened down all the way... my car wont move !!! even though the motor and the pinon and the spur gear are all working fine. no teeth are missing :( I just want to try to narrow down the problem, so I don't buy the wrong part.. I will try taking it apart again.. and look at the diff.. thank you ! for an awesome video!
@preciadoalex123 You're going to need to replace two gears. First you need the metal toothed differential gear. Part #2381. It cost about $6. You'll also need a metal Idle gear part # 3696. That gear cost around $5. The drive gear should be metal. Do the steps I show in the videos and you're good to go.
That’s a lot of steps. Started playing with my slash again nmd was wondering if it’s dirty or dry somehow. I stopped using it years ago, it runs, but noticed that if I go neutral, it stops pretty quickly, not sure if it’s bec of the settings
Take the motor off and roll the car and see if it's binding anywhere if no then yes probably from the motor or the ESC telling the motor to drag brake.
@@nb6584 thank you. Will try that approach. I also likely need to calibrate or something, if I try to run slow it's like it doesn't know whether toove or not, kerking basically. Like quick on off on off suxcession
how do you remove the first gear you removed from the shaft. you have it in your hand at 1:55 i stiped my trani now 3 times and want to replace everything now and i can not remove it i appricate everyones responce
someone please help. i was running my slash vxl today when suddenly it was just slipping, i know for sure it wasnt hex, pinion or spur gear related. and the axles seem ok but the left axle is spinning as strong as the right???? but it will not move with a load
Can't help but chuckle everytime you say "diffryentchal" gear. But great video, thanks, nice to know what to expect before pulling it all apart.
Both of these videos just came in so handy for me so thank you for posting these. Very helpful and practical information.
I just followed all the steps and thank you. I found no problem but a lot of sand and a dead motor. Your videos arei verry well made and usefull.🤘👍👊👌

Excellent video series. My 11 yr old is gonna use these to rebuild his first diff!

One of the best youtube vids ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!!!!!! You saved me hours of frustration.
My favorite part was the pronunciation of diff-re-ential

u can also use toothbrush to brush off the grease from the teeth of the gears..
A trick: you can watch series on Flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Roger Jesus Yea, have been watching on flixzone} for since december myself :D
what great tutorials! i´m no beginner but, i have slash just for 6 months and this made the gearbox servis much easier, thanks :)
Great video Jason. This video helped big time when I swapped the stock Traxxas gearbox case for an RPM one.
great video, made it easy

I would recommend soaking all the gears and bearings and washers in WD40 it helps remove grease
Go ahead and go ahead but when you go ahead make sure you go ahead.
Inside of the diff gear is silicone grease and in the transmission is white lithium grease.
I think I put silicone grease in my diff and on my transmission is my RC car going to explode or something
@@saltybutsain6348 yes
@@mtallman0692 lol, it was fine, and I drive a slash 4x4 now. But idk it might still explode sitting on my shelf.I’ll keep you updated,

most likley the gear dif has a striped gears in them.
What kind of grees did u use in the differential gear ?

Hello! i used traxxas diff lube instead of the black grease... is that ok?
Thanks for your help.
@EngageTutorials Awesome and your welcome.

@gh3ttod3vil Good point. I'll make a note of that in the video.
darkeclipticheart would you recommend soaking the gearbox case as well as the idler gear in WD-40 to completely remove the old grease?

I used Marine grease on mine, is that chill?
What if you don't youse Traxxas grease and it's your first time
wel ....
Would locking the diff help with slipping?.
Moly Lithium Grease. But I suggest you use traxxas's Silicone Grease.
@mohammad0050 Over time yes it will break the gears if you don't use the grease.
Did the transmission on the pre-XL-5 Rustler/Stampede/Bandit have metal gears?
No. Those gears where made of plastic. They cannot handle brushless systems.
My diff gear is plastic and all the rest of the internal gears are metal.Im having slipping problems but everything looks ok when I took it apart.
Would locking the diff help with slipping problem?.
Thank you very much Sir!
Hola, una rueda tracciona y la otra no? O las 2 al mismo tiempo?
Great video, nice explanations not like some on RUclips. But why wast all that time cleaning like you do and not just use brake cleaner
It will destroy the plastic parts I think. You can use wd-40 though.
using lithium based bearing grease will that work?
Depends on how much you drive it. If you drive it all the time then yeah.
That’s a lot of steps.

i shredded my metal differential gears in my rustler vxl yesterday
Good video thanks
I know mine does. You'll have to ask them.
I bought lucas xtra heavy duty grease for the diff. Its green. will it work ok?
elude22 Yes that will work!
My shafts coming out of the diff dont have holes thru them either.
Can't u use a de greaser and regrease everything?
Why does nobody have a parts list in the description!?!?!?!
Thanks 😀👍
Awesome
Ouch. I haven't done that yet.
Nice . Thanks
do hobby shops do this for you?
how do you remove the first gear you removed from the shaft. you have it in your hand at 1:55 i stiped my trani now 3 times and want to replace everything now and i can not remove it i appricate everyones responce
It's part 3195 and you have to push out the pins that hold it in place. Similar to the pins that hold your wheel nuts in place.
little question , are al the gaers in the diff even big ?
whoa. i have the same little screwdrivers as u.
1st comment. you rock.
my gears are plastic (1999 traxxas stampede) how do i make them metal and how much is the conversion?
someone please help. i was running my slash vxl today when suddenly it was just slipping, i know for sure it wasnt hex, pinion or spur gear related. and the axles seem ok but the left axle is spinning as strong as the right???? but it will not move with a load
jacob portillo slipper sounds loose
I know I’m late but if I’m right plz message me umm same thing happened to me but it was the idler gear had 5 teeth missing
But did the idler gear break?
hi buddy would not changing and not greasinge gears break the gears them selfs plz let me know
what grease do you use in the diff because i dont want to buy
alright thank you.
ok so i finished replacing the stripped gears and reinstalled every thing and it does the same thing btw i used black greese in differ.
An easier way to clean the gears is just leave them in kerosene for an hour it will also remove rust
what about diff lube 30000 cps instead of grease? that grease is that?
what black grease did u use?
We’re do you get your star hex drivers fom
Everything- Videos they are called torx drivers. Basic hardware store.
Star? 😆🤦♂️
yeah i couldnt believe it
could you use white litheam greese inside the differentcheal?
Lucas you can also run Crisco.
You could but that grease isn't made for it.
@darkeclipticheart 8:08 not that painful if you use a toothbrush.
let s say an avrage of 2 times a weak , and i planning to do a gigantic maintanance so about after 1 jear and six months
can I us 45 weight shock oil in my diff
+Drew Evans Its not a sealed diff so it will leak
+darkeclipticheart k thx I just used white lithium grease in sated in both the diff and transmission
diff-ree-ential lol
Jonathan Webb and debrees. And chassisss. And star-shaped screw driver.
All mispronouncing aside, great video.
Regardless. Still a helpful video :)
Thanks I just put 500k in my diff
are you drag racing? Im thinking about using an RPM case and gears with 500K fluid
@@bansheerider619 yes 500k is perfect ive been #1 on the top 10 list before
I didn't have tape on my Stampede
is it bad if i do this evry 2 jears

DIFF REE ENSHAL gear. Perfect vid for RC noobs that are scared to do their own work.
@darkeclipticheart k thanks
a traxxas grease.
YOU BROKE MY RC CAR
I striped the crap out of my idler gear :(
I think that's what I did with mine but I'm watching this before I open it up
