One thing that I use to help get the sleeve out is a piece of old starter rope. I slide it in between the sleeve, and the ports on the side, and rotate the crank, and pinch the rope between the sleeve, and piston, and it will usually push the sleeve up enough to get it out. You mentioned on the rod to make sure it goes in properly so it can be lubricated, there is a port on the piston that needs to face forward as well.
That’s a good tip with the rope- thank you. I used a similar technique when tightening the crankshaft nut on my triumph car, by poking rope through the plug holes to stop the pistons turning.

The fuel tank appears to be dirty and also the pipe. If you do not have this car can you go over how to clean the fuel tank, pipe, and how to fix the pull starter.
Hi Rodrigo. To clean the tank as pipe is easy. Just put a little new fuel into the tank and then link the two nipple together with a piece of pipe and shake! It will remove anything debris and clear the tank. It can be rinsed out afterward and left to dry with a tool holding the lid open so it can dry properly. For the pull start it sounds like your engine is gummed you with old fuel which is whey it won’t turn. You will need to take the pull start and back plate off and rinse the engine in some new fuel for a few minutes. It will loosen up and turn over again. Don’t use detergent as the fuel is too oily to react to soaps. Once the engine is Freed up a good run will blow out any remaining debris. Hope that helps you?
Hi Luke. There are two sizes used depending on which engine you have. They are either 2.5x8mm or 3x8mm. I carry both in my eBay shop. The item numbers are 283654941669 and 283654931962 if you put the number into the eBay search bar they will come up for you. Hope that helps.
That would have been an option but it only works on some engines when the sleeve is quite loose to start with. If it is firmly stuck the zip tie just gets cut through like a guillotine. You can’t use anything stronger like metal as it will damage the piston and burr the edge of the sleeve.

Hello Simon, can u maby put a video on how to get your engine runnin en how to get it runnin good, i got a engine that stops everytime after 30seconds running and i cant find anything on youtube how to tune it.
That's too little information. We don't know if: a) the engine's even been broken in b) you're tuning it whilst not at operating temperatures c) the engine is in operable condition d) you're using new plugs or old ones e) the engine is dying during WOT f) you've checked the linkages to ensure brakes aren't shutting off the carb valve
You made an obvious mistake during reassembly. 23:50 you found a washer that did not belong there so you removed it. That’s the washer that goes between the turbo fan and the backplate. It should have been installed at 20:36 but you incorrectly assumed it belong to another car

Can you send me a picture of your engine as I have loads of heads and I am sure one will be correct. Use the email rcscrapyardspares@gmail.com. I also have a web site now which is rcscrapyard.com but I don’t yet have any Ofna parts listed. Also if you need a manual I may have one which I can email. A picture of the car would help me to identify it for you. Thanks -Simon
If the engine is mounted on a plate, which can be removed with the engine, then you shouldn't need to set the gap again. However, if the engine is fitted on standard sliding mounts, then you will need to set the gap.

Hello honestly I don’t know. That’s a question for the engine manufacturer! I would assume the direction of the blades channel fuel towards the combustion chamber but that’s a guess.
Easy Start and other preparations do not provide proper lubrication if the carburetor does not spray fuel. One time, trying to start the engine in this way, I managed to seize my engine. The piston jammed in the sleeve. After unblocking, the engine worked but had worse compression. I do not recommend this method for beginners.
Hello. I don’t honestly think it would fit. I assume a 1/4 scale motor would be a two stroke petrol ? If so the physical footprint would be too large for most 1/10 scale. Even if it did fit, the torque would tear up the diffs. And actually you would have a care with plenty of torque but not much speed. Most Nitro engines run at around 30,000 rpm flat out whereas a two stroke would max at 12,000 tops. As the output is directly connected to the main spur gear the speed would be slower. However to put a 1/8 scale nitro engine into a 1/10 scale would be possible and create a quick and torquey car. In fact Schumacher have done exactly that with the “Menace” which has a big engine and a three speed gearbox. Does that help?
Ahh that makes since Tbh I’m super new to RC and Just learning the Ropes Of Nitro I Love it !! And Just Trying ideas as too going Faster Already Lol thanks for the Reply and the Awesome Videos !! Have any experience with Custom Build RC Dragsters? Videos on that would be Awesome!!
No worries. You can’t beat the sound of a nitro ! Speed is not about the size of engine but is all about the gears!! Hey im new into the rc car thing but this guy just gifted me a nitro rc car so i dont have any old fuel to clean the engine with(the engine hasnt ran for at least 3 years that i know of) what other liquid would u recommend to wash my engine with?
Wd40 and elbow grease! Heard carburetor cleaner isn't meant for any o rings or seals because the strong cleaning properties of cleaner itself can cause them to deteriorate, and old nitro fuel works well to but don't use carb cleaner unless you've removed all o rings from carb and engine
Hey I got a question, my cooling head on my VX.18 wont come off, it's like the bolts are torqued beyond recognition and my Allen keys strip out whenever i try to take it off, any suggestions?
Hey cyberpower 300, Sorry for the VERY LATE RESPONSE. The only option now is to drill the bolts out with a 7mm drill and replace them. Make sure the glow plug is in when you do it.
Since this is an even later response and you've probably fixed the issue by now, for anyone else: do *NOT* use Allen "keys". Do yourselves a favor and buy a set of proper hex type tools to work on your RC vehicles. Allens found in RTRs are notoriously shit and are typically made from weak materials. Don't chuck them out however, as they can still be useful but don't use them as your primary tools. Bad idea.
Good idea. If you have access to an air compressor. If not you can use a stiff brush. I keep old toothbrushes for the purpose. As it’s going to be stripped and cleaned anyway all stray dirt will be washed away.
Hi Kemelia. Please contact me via WhatsApp on 07876 677762 so we can chat and I can help you with your car. I carry loads of new and second hand spares so I am sure we can get you going.
Hi BT. Depending on which engine you have, Yes they will probably physically fit but the clutch in a 1/10 car is usually made of a Less dense material than a 1/8 clutch so it is likely to burn out much faster, especially if you are fitting the motor in a 1/8 car, as the load will be heavier for the clutch to pull. Hope that makes sense.
@@RCScrapyard its actually the opposite 😅 I want to fit a 1/8 engine in a 1/10 rc, it originally had a .18 engine but it blowed up and was thinking of putting a bigger engine as a replacement
@@bluetrainer3549 no reason why not but you will need to make mew engine mounting holes in the chassis and make room for a rear exhaust. You also need 1/8 engine mountings as the 1/10 won’t fit.

What are the size of screw for the engine backplate? I’m looking for replacements and can’t find dimensions/size?
Hi Luke. There are two sizes used depending on which engine you have. They are either 2.5x8mm or 3x8mm. I carry both in my eBay shop. The item numbers are 283654941669 and 283654931962 if you put the number into the eBay search bar they will come up for you. Hope that helps.
U should have used the zip tie method to get the sleeve out
That would have been an option but it only works on some engines when the sleeve is quite loose to start with. If it is firmly stuck the zip tie just gets cut through like a guillotine. You can’t use anything stronger like metal as it will damage the piston and burr the edge of the sleeve.
That thing was thrashedd on brotha hot dayumn
I have gotten a car but a few things were removed from the chassis and I want some professional help to make sure that it’s in good order and how to get spare parts
Hi Kemilia. Please contact me via WhatsApp and we can talk about your car. I have plenty of second hand and new spares so I am sure we can get you going. 07876 677762
Is there anything else you can use if you don’t have old fuel ?
Yes. You can use new fuel. It’s just a bit more expensive.
Don’t be tempted to put it back in the tank when you have finished as it may clog the carb.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU GOT THE ONE WAY BEARING IN RIGHT
Since my dad died back in 2014 I got his gs racing nitro storm and when my house flooded in 2015 I lost the hood and now I can’t find one for it so if you know a place I can get on that would be very nice thank you.
Red Ghost15 - it looks like a standard buggy shell will fit the Racing Storm. It seems to be a 1/10 scale buggy which looks similar to many available. I carry these shells in yellow and blue with rear wings to match if you need one. Price is £19.99 for the shell and £5.99 for the rear wing. Let me know if you are in the UK and I will give you an eBay item number.
Hi Sir i just picked up a warhead duratrax monster truck and i think the motor needs a rebuild i’m having trouble finding anyone from wisconsin to work on this machine for me any thoughts on how to find local tv guys without facebook?
Hello. I am sorry I can’t help here. I am based in the UK and don’t have a clue who is available in the US ? Sorry
thank you
Hello Simon, can u maby put a video on how to get your engine runnin en how to get it runnin good, i got a engine that stops everytime after 30seconds running and i cant find anything on youtube how to tune it.
Yes, certainly, But it sounds like your engine may be worn and as it warms up is losing compression. I will upload a video on engine tuning shortly.
That's too little information. We don't know if:
a) the engine's even been broken in
b) you're tuning it whilst not at operating temperatures
c) the engine is in operable condition
d) you're using new plugs or old ones
e) the engine is dying during WOT
f) you've checked the linkages to ensure brakes aren't shutting off the carb valve
I found rust in my engine, what could I do to free up the parts
change the bearings
Which glow plug you used and recommend me the glow plug for hyper 21 and hyper port3 ,21engine
Best glowplug for this engines is eBay item number 284131235390. That’s what I use in my engine ( shown in the video)
@@RCScrapyard can i use #3 or 4 ,5 glow plug
@@Mirzanitro32 no 4 or 5 are too fragile for the bigger engines. They will work but won’t last very long.
You made an obvious mistake during reassembly. 23:50 you found a washer that did not belong there so you removed it. That’s the washer that goes between the turbo fan and the backplate. It should have been installed at 20:36 but you incorrectly assumed it belong to another car
My car have 7 years stoped what i do to make it run again
Hey brother how are you I have a ofna rc from about 2002 it hasn't ran since then I'm missing the head but for the most part I have the rest of the car I would like your opinion on it to see how I can restore it
Hey Robinson. Happy to help. Firstly when you look for parts try Ofna and Hobao as they are the same company ( just use different names in different countries).
@@RCScrapyard hey I appreciate the reply I would be sending you and image of the car shortly
I just sent you the email
What do you use if you don't have old fuel?
New fuel! 😁
Could u tell me if u took an engine out of an ansmann virus would u have to set the gear mesh again when u reinstall it
If the engine is mounted on a plate, which can be removed with the engine, then you shouldn't need to set the gap again. However, if the engine is fitted on standard sliding mounts, then you will need to set the gap.
Adjusting you slipper clutch on a t maxx
Thank you Random Ness. If there is anything else you would like to see please let me know.
Can you please show how to desmentle clutch and shaft assembly
Hey mate just wondering if your the same as rcscrapyard shop? I been buying a lot off you lately on eBay if so and then just watched this video and noticed same name aha that’s brilliant and very information videos spot on I got a few projects myself so no doubt you will see me asking questions or buying more stuff from you guys 🎉
Yup that’s me! I do the videos to assist sales and to help Rc enthusiasts repair their cars without expensive shop bills.
20:28 is this Fan Wheel only for Cooling? Or is this for extra power
Hello honestly I don’t know. That’s a question for the engine manufacturer! I would assume the direction of the blades channel fuel towards the combustion chamber but that’s a guess.
Def. xtra power, probably adds a bunch of torque as well.
Want to see the crank removed. Guesz ill keep looking
Once you have removed the piston and sleeve, and removed the flywheel you can just push the crank out towards the rear.
Where do you live
Need a pull start for my thunder tiger pro 50 CF series nitro engine
Hi Deepak. I have loads of different pull starts. Can you send me a pic of the backplate or measure between hole centres please?
❤! Perfect!
How hard is it to put a Nitro Motor from like a 1/4 scale to a 1/10 scale and too figure out the gearing?
I have made any custom chops, but my own Traxxas TMax is fitted with a home made automatic start system - just push a button on the transmitter and go!
I will publish a video about is shortly.
So true About the Noise I’m an ex Drag Racer so Noise and the Actual working Real Aspect Of an Engine has got me Hooked !
That sounds bad Ass !! Look forward to Seeing that soon!! 👍🏻😀
Hey im new into the rc car thing but this guy just gifted me a nitro rc car so i dont have any old fuel to clean the engine with(the engine hasnt ran for at least 3 years that i know of) what other liquid would u recommend to wash my engine with?
Wd40
Brady Borg Thanks!
Normal feul
Can you use carburetor cleaner?
Wd40 and elbow grease! Heard carburetor cleaner isn't meant for any o rings or seals because the strong cleaning properties of cleaner itself can cause them to deteriorate, and old nitro fuel works well to but don't use carb cleaner unless you've removed all o rings from carb and engine
What spoils videos like that is the intrusive soundtrack.
Hey I got a question, my cooling head on my VX.18 wont come off, it's like the bolts are torqued beyond recognition and my Allen keys strip out whenever i try to take it off, any suggestions?
heat them up, hit bolt head with small punch before trying to remove
Hey cyberpower 300, Sorry for the VERY LATE RESPONSE. The only option now is to drill the bolts out with a 7mm drill and replace them. Make sure the glow plug is in when you do it.
Since this is an even later response and you've probably fixed the issue by now, for anyone else:
do *NOT* use Allen "keys". Do yourselves a favor and buy a set of proper hex type tools to work on your RC vehicles. Allens found in RTRs are notoriously shit and are typically made from weak materials.
Don't chuck them out however, as they can still be useful but don't use them as your primary tools. Bad idea.
please do a rush evo
is their anyone that was there watching or was that a shadow in the top right corner?
After I put my head back on my engine the compression goes way up, it's a 28 c from a mad beast 1/8scale
Have you checked your washers? Sometimes you forget to put the spacer in between the cooling tower and the block
How do I fix a jammed piston? Maybe froze?
Applying heat gun to engine to loose up piston its what i did
Always and I meen always blow it off with compressed air first before disassembly
Does anyone know if the gear and clutch for a 1/10 nitro engine fit in a 1/8 motor?
Hi BT. Depending on which engine you have, Yes they will probably physically fit but the clutch in a 1/10 car is usually made of a
Less dense material than a 1/8 clutch so it is likely to burn out much faster, especially if you are fitting the motor in a 1/8 car, as the load will be heavier for the clutch to pull.
@@RCScrapyard yeah I already found that out, but was more consern about the gear and clutch not fitting
With all those previous comments below being said, I did give you a thumbs down on this video until I watched it a little while. After getting about halfway through it and forgiving and forgetting your improper use of the words that you were using, I did change it to a thumbs up.
This video was somewhat useful and it’s content and actual usefulness. I hope you continue making videos, but hope you learn the proper use of the words you overuse before doing so.
Thank you. I think my use of the “proper everyday English” language is far more accurate than the somewhat modified version that is commonly used overseas. You have a choice with RUclips of whether to watch or not. I suggest you turn the volume down!
Holy shit that's dirty. I'd clean it after every few runs man.
@A Ihsan The car not the engine 😂😂😂
@A Ihsan Can you not see how insanely dirty the car is 😂

Do you need locktight
I guess it would do no harm to use locktite especially on the screw that holds the clutch bell in place ( front of crankshaft) but personally I have lent ever used it and have had no problems.
Simon Pledger - MythicalRC ok thanks because My exhaust manifold just fell off as I’m driving the car
This is 100% a GV model
I expect start engine in this video :(
I had a hobao hyper 7 to sport black edition some car it was
wd40 works good as a cleaner
Checkout my video on stripping and rebuilding. That should help you get going again.
"Give it a wash in old fuel.." i am wondering where the People got these old fuel from. When i am out with my nitros , there are no fuel leftovers
Hi Tenka, when i buy job lots of car for breaking on my website www.mythicalrc.com they sometimes come with old fuel. if you dont have old fuel you can use new, but it is expensive. Sadly the normal degreasing methods dont work with Nitro cars.
To fast Simon slow it down other than that great video
Hit pause then play
if it leaks when its upside down you built it wrong :P
If it leaks when it’s upside your driving needs some improvement! 😉
Never ever use any to push the sleeve out from the engine block. You can damage it. Very bad advice bud.
He said if you chooses to do it that way it could damage the sleeve
impact drive get real lmao ???
how about hot water and a j cloth bit of washing up liquid !!! do you wash your car engine in fuel you are strange m8 ????????????????
you find this car in the river lol
