The beauty of this performance is not her vocal technique, but her honesty and emotion.
I'd say her acting as if she believed the words of this song. It is a beautiful song about peace and global friendship, but all 3 verses are almost the opposite of what she usually represents. She's a Catholic who often talks about God. She is rich and enjoys her wealth. And she openly supports her own country. But for a job like this, she'll do a convincing version of this great Atheist, anticapitalist, antinationalist anthem.

The message of the song is "love and peace and happiness" and "the world could live as one". Lady Gaga's entire Born This Way Era was about expressing who you are, and not being ashamed of it. I don't think you really know Gaga that well, if you're arguing that she doesn't truly believe the words of the song because I'm pretty sure she does.

I wanted to say that you can do something excellent without a stage full of lights, dancers etc. Of course every single performer can do what she wants but I wanted to say that you can kill the stage also in this way. I am a die hard metal head that prefers Rammstein and Five Finger Death Punch and can't stand what I guess people would call pop music. But I think Lady Gaga is absolutely amazing and I think the world has yet to see how deeply talented she is, in music and acting. I think this is really just the beginning for her and she is going to continue to blow us away for a very long time to come.

This video has touched me in ways I never expected. I was crying by the 4:20 mark, and laughing at myself while doing it. There are times when music touches you so true that you just completely lose control of your tears/emotions/sanity.
