This is beautiful. My mother called this pepine..she was from Germany, but I think it is a French word for “snag”. At least, that’s what I could find. Our dear Michi didn’t know the word, so it is probably regional. Mother always had me in black and white skirts of houndstooth or “pepine”..❤

Shirley. I find such delight in reading you write of your mom. I had a Umbrella with the Houndstooth design. Really love it. I thought the design was of English descent. You opened my brain to the history. I appreciate you Sweet Friend. ❤

Omg! Thank you soooooo much for this.👍😃 It's PERFECT TIMING for you to post this amazingly simple and beautiful tutorial!♥️ My Peruvian friend is bringing me some Alpaca/Silk blend yarn in 2 days. I already decided to crochet a black&white (or & red) houndstooth scarf. I have a Tunisian Crochet hook set and thought it might work up faster than regular crochet IF I could find instructions how to do it since I've never tried to do Tunisian Crochet and your tutorial was the VERY FIRST Google search result!!! Thanks again for the wonderful lesson!♥️👍😃

    🛑PLEASE HELP! 😄
I've never done Tunisian Crochet and I'd appreciate some recommendations for my houndstooth scarf:
I need to know what to do about the edges for a SCARF. I plan to add fringe but I don't know if my cable is long enough to make my rows the desired length of my scarf so that I might be able to tidy up or hide the edges with the fringe.... maybe? AND... I can't imagine a border all the way around my scarf to hide edges but it might look good. What's your expert recommendation? Thank you so much!😊

I wouldn’t make it length wise but side to side wise. The beginning chain and close off chain doesn’t have a lot of give to them so I would make it that way. As far as the edges, I have a tutorial on perfect edges that may help you. Fringe on scarves is a great addition as well to them and in my honest opinion helps the project stand out.
I have a scarf tutorial from Valentine’s Day that shows a scarf being made from side to side just in case what I types didn’t make sense. I really do hope I helped answered your question.
