Sir you have saved me! I learned to both knit and crochet as a child but had to stop knitting around 10 years ago. I had an accident that resulted in permanent nerve damage in my left hand. I can still use it to tension on crochet but i can't knit anymore. Ive tried and tried but its not a pain issue i just lack the dexterity in my hand and wrist to effectively knit with 2 needles anymore. Ive just ordered some knooking needles. Cheap metal ones. My husband says if i enjoy it we can get a full set of wooden crochet hooks and he will put in the holes for me so i can have all the sizes. Just being able to do that traditional v shaped knit stitch with a hook will bring me so much joy! THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤
Aww this makes me so happy to read! Thank you for sharing your story. And I love your strategy with the hooks. Now I need a hubby to make holes in a full set for myself 🤣 Anyway, have fun knooking and I hope it works and it will bring you back the V-joy ❤️
🤣 I'm very good with yarn but giving me a drill etc will result in hospital 🤣🤣 can't even put a nail in the wall without hammering myself 🙈 so borrowing a hubby might just work best, lol 🤣🎉
OMG HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?! I've been knitting and crocheting for 30 years and thought I tried everything. lol. I had to give up knitting because I move my wrists too much with the 2 needles it got too painful. I tried Tunisian crochet but found it gave me similar issues to knitting. This knooking seems so much easier than tunisian because you don't keep everything on the hook and have more flexibility. I'm so excited to try this and be able to "knit" again! I just ordered some hook! :)
Yaaay, you will definitely love knooking. And yes, knooking is a lot easier, it really feels like regular crocheting but without "knotting" as you just put up loops. I get wrist pain with certain techniques as well and this is a great alternative! Have fun trying it 🤗
Loooove!! Happy to learn something new. This would be so useful for crocheters to add ribbing and continue with crochet. Mittens, hats, socks, sweaters...
Absolutely agree, this will make sone things a lot easier and faster for crocheters. I will definitely incorporate knooking into some of my projects. Just like I already incorporate tunisian to make handles or straps for example 😉
I tried to learn to knit so many times without success. When Leisure Arts brought out the knook several years ago, I tried it. It still took a little bit, but after a few months, I gave needle knitting another try, and I was good to go!
I agree, tunisian is always a bit special with the return pass (my favorite part of Tunisian crochet). Knooking fits right in-between crochet and knitting. A perfect hybrid 🤗
Thank you, the possibilities are endless! Also combining crochet with knooking. I will show more projects soon so there's plenty of time before next winter 😉
Interesting! 1. I never knew those types of needles existed. 2. Never seen this type of knitting technique! Thank you for sharing. I learned something new. (you can teach an old dog new tricks, lol) =)
Don't worry about the curl with the stocknette stitch, It's what the stich does. I crocheted with an ancient one of these growing up. No one in my family knew afghan stitch or knitting, but I made blankets and ponchoes galore with my favorite hook, until an aunt decided she needed it for rug hooking, then threw it and the rug away when she foung out there was work involved. (growling) I'm getting it, and its brothers, back. In colors!
I’m a knitter who hates working 4 needles in the round. Circular needles only go so far. I’m hoping this works in the round, if so, it could be the answer! The eye cord cast on is so wonderful, I may reconsider learning to crochet.
So true, I remember seeing someone knitting socks with 4 needles. That gave me anxiety 🙃 this would be so much easier with the helper yarn and just going around and around. I'm happy that you like the i-cord cast on. My favorite way to start a project. So much neater and straighter than any chain 🤗
I love this type of crochet and knitting, thank you for your toturiol after seeing your video today I order my knocking hooks set from Amazon, I should be receiving mine tomorrow, thank you very much, keep more toturiol coming
New subscriber here. This is the first time I've heard of or seen knooking. I have always wanted to learn to knit but found it intimidating, but this is like WOW!! Can hardly wait for more knooking videos ❤
Thank you, there will definitely be more videos coming soon. I'm intimidated by knitting too and can't coordinate 2 needles. So I love knooking because it gives me the ability to knit without knitting lol 😆 the perfect hybrid technique
🤣🤣🤣 I'm not avoiding knitting. I just can't handle 2 knitting needles and nothing at the top of the needles to hold back the loops 🙈 but when there's a hook, I'm OK 🤣 But I can't wait to hear what you think of it. It feels crochet and looks knitted 😉
Continental knitting is easier than English style. I didn't think I would ever get knitting because I couldn't learn mirror style like I did crochet. My grandma tried and tried to teach me to no avail. I finally was able to pick up on it a few years ago by watching Bill Souza Yarncrafts For Lefties channel as well as Fiber Spider... Fiber Spider is right handed but a really good teacher and I just watched him very intently. @@totally_fierceAlso, I'm old enough to be your mom... So don't count regular knitting out for good just yet
@@totally_fierceYeah! Same here!!! And I learned how to knit with two knitting needles. But knooking is by far more fun, allows for more creativity, is easy on the hands and you don’t have to buy separate „ sock needles“, „ circular needles“ and all that other stuff😊Thank you from Germany!!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I have been crocheting for over seventy years and have tried knitting, I just could not coordinate making the stitches. This inspires me to try this method.
Love that! Same here, And when I tried knitting my hands felt numb after a while. No issues with knooking because it really feels like your crocheting. Have fun trying it out 🤗
Well I'm glad this video popped up in my RUclips feed! I knitted in my teens but haven't done any for many years. I learned crochet about ten yes ago and love it. In love crocheting wearables. I've never heard of knooking. I feel an Amazon purchase coming. You have a new subscribed in me.. You explained and showed this tutorial really well, thank You.
Thank you so much for sharing& showing how to do this. I injured my left hand & can't knit well holding 2 needles now, but can crochet so this is perfect & amazing to do. Your Brilliant & explaining so well.
Thank you, I hope this will work for you. It's definitely easier on the arms, hands and wrists compared to knitting. And when crochet causes no pain then knooking won't either! And you will be able to basically knot again 🎉 I love how this technique is a real problem solver 🤗
I'm 63 and taught myself how to crochet in 4th grade, but never heard of knooking! I love it! You are a wonderful teacher❤ i appreciate you teaching us how to do this wonderful skill! New sub too.
Thank you so much for the awesome tutorial! Such a cool way to knit! The hook is like the Tunisian hook and it's also the same as the hook I use for locker hooking rag rugs. Very versatile needle you have there! Love your crochet tutorials too!
Oh thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've seen the needles or hooks that are used to make rugs. Very similar indeed. I love how techniques can be mixed together to create new things, just amazing 🤗
I love tunisian crochet too. Very unique textures and patterns. However, this technique here is called knooking. It's like the sibling of tunisian and the child of crochet and knitting 🤣 we're all one big happy yarny family
DANG IT! You just sent me on over an hour-long wild goose chase, trying to locate and purchase some knooking needles! I finally did manage to find some, so now it's wait time. lol
@@lynnb-TruckCastreauJr I think he’s done that to a bunch of us we’re just minding our own business, scrolling through RUclips, or even looking for something else completely different and apparently we were all just meant to see this. *gasp* I do believe we all have a new family now…
I live in Michigan in USA. I just found your channel and I’m excited. Sorry for the long post but any other knooking videos I have found are years old, it’s nice to find a new one. I want to see more projects 😊. I bought a kit thing that I found at my local Walmart maybe ten years ago at the most. It had two “Knook Hooks” made of bamboo and two silky cords. The little instruction book had the basic technique and I had fun finally learning how to knit. I could. Never get it, my stitches were always too tight with needles. Later I found a plastic set with about 10 different sizes with coordinating silky cords. I’ve only made mittens and a doll sweater so far but once you get the hang of it it’s cool. Supposedly you can basically follow any knitting pattern with a few tweaks. My instructions have you starting with simple chain so the first row is thin, I noticed your base row is thicker than mine. Doing ribbing is a hoot. I really have to look at the stitches to keep track of the knit and pearl stitches. Once I get a couple of rows it’s easier 😅. I do my pearl stitch differently than you. I hold my yarn tension the same as I crochet with my first finger pointing out to direct the thread and tension. When I crochet I hold my hook like a pencil but when I knook/knit I hold it like you do. When I do a knit stitch the yarn is off to the back like normal but when I do a pearl stitch I move the yarn to the front like regular knitting and make the stitch wrapping the yarn moving the hook toward me over the yarn then down with the hook part facing away then making the stitch just like you do the first stitch when you start your pearl row. I don’t twist the next stitch like you do but that is an interesting way to do it. I will try it, maybe it will make my ribbing tighter. The second way you showed how to do ribbing I think would confuse me but it looked interesting, I will try a sample. That technique probably won’t work when knooking in the round like I do making mittens. I haven’t used them in a few years so I’m relearning how. Decided to make another pair of mittens, easy practice. I knit my thumb flat and then crochet it down the side to make the tube and then I keep going in the round to make the rest of the mittens. I always end up with a couple of “vent holes” I call them at the thumb joint from increasing a stitch or two to get the count back up for the hand part but it might be just my pattern. Some patterns have you leave a hole then pick up stitches to make fingers. Tried that and it looked horrible 🤦♀️
Hi, thank you for your long message. I'm glad you already have some knooking experience and that you keep trying. I agree you can follow most knitting patterns with knooking. And most of the stitches are the same. For the purl stitches there are multiple ways to do them. The reason why I make them the way I showed it is to make sure that the back of those look as identical as possible to the knit stitches. Other purl stitches tend to look a bit off or irregular and definitely different than the typical V. Mine look like 95% the same. It's really more a visual thing. But you are right, the way I do them definitely helps with the tension. By twisting and pushing up you take the yarn up as well which results in a similar tension like the knit stitch. It's a bit hard to explain. But you can even see that yarn strand in front moving and "closing" the stitch. The first few are a bit tricky to make but once you know how to grab the loop and twist the yarn the auto pilot starts 🤣 anyway, thank you again and have fun trying it
@ I ordered some from Amazon and I’m going to get neighbors on both sides of me involved. One is in her 80’s & the other one is 10 years old so I’ll hopefully help get the next generation involved.😊🧶👍🏻 Thanks again 🙏🏼!!!
thank you for showing this process. I have seen this type of hook in the stores for many years and never knew what they were for. I might give it a try soon,
I have been looking for this …. I was trying to create this type of knitting with crochet hook needle but didn’t know how to make it this kind of needle ….and now I see it already exists …..Wow thank you for this video😊
This is so cool. I'm subscribing hoping you might provide some videos on using this technique in some projects or other resources we can use. Thank you for sharing!
This is fascinating. It is like an eccentric form of knitting. I think we'd describe the knit stitches as being worked "through the back loop". I've often wondered if knitting would be easier with one of the needles replaced by a crochet hook, especially in Continental knitting which certainly challenges my dexterity.
This makes me think of how I do a long tail cast on to start some of my crochet projects. Made it SO much easier to get comfortable doing crochet again. I had only learned how to do a chain when I was little.
this is starting to feel like a loom meets, crochet meets, knitting all combined. --I'm not sure what it is/if it makes sense, but it looks like a little mini/hand-held loom when the tail-piece is underneath the needle I think you have given me something else to do now…or at least explore
Hi, it's definitely a hybrid of different things combined. That's what makes it very intriguing for me, too! Knowing that I'm useless with 2 knitting needles but now can knit with a hook just blows my mind. And still confuses me 🤣🤣
@@totally_fierce my hands are useless half the time so knowing that there’s other choices out there can basically do the same thing or that I can switch back-and-forth from even possibly on the same project, awesome. That’s the only word for it. Is awesome. Plus the neurodivergent/disabled stuck at home/5 different sleep disorders that don’t know what to do with themselves, etc. etc., I really need a new project or something every couple of hours. 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 I feel you, I have like new ideas every hour in my head trying to make everything but just two hands lol And btw, i live combining techniques. Who says you can't? I mix crochet with tunisian, I start with i-cords and I'm pretty sure I'll have projects that combine all of the above plus knooking 🤣 that's the only way to satisfy my brain 😉
@@totally_fierce my brain comes up with stuff that my body does not have the ability to do. I’m going to need help paying for wrist splints and KT tape so that I can crochet. 🙈🙈🙈 such as the life of someone with no collagen, five different forms of arthritis and a very bad temper… C’est la vie
Ooooh!! I miss knitting (can't handle two needles due to MSK issue) but I can still hook! I have been looking for a good alternative to knitting and I have to say THANK YOU! For introducing me to this new yarn craft addiction! Already ordered some knooking hooks!
I have never seen or heard of this. Though I’ve only been attempting to crochet for a few months. I cannot wait to try this. I tried the Tunisian but it was always rolled up. Thank you thank you
Hi, feel free trying it and have fun with it. I agree, the curling in tunisian crochet can be very frustrating. Knooking is definitely much less curly 😉
I’ve never heard of this! It’s wonderful! (I love crochet but I am horrible at knitting and get so frustrated!😣) I can’t wait to order my knook…or knook hook lol, and get started! Thank you so much! ❤
Greetings from France ❤. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025. I SUBSCRIBED. I came across your video and was excited to watch it up to the end. NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. I've seen this hook n hole😅 but didnt know what it was used for and HOW it was used. You explained SO well and EXCELLENT filming and zooming in. I learnt something NEW at 73 years. Honestly this is a great idea for flat knitting. No fighting with two knitting needles except for cable patterns. CONGRATULATIONS 😊. Thanks for sharing caring and making ME SMILE 😊 Beary hugs from my Newfoundland and a hug from me.
Aww you are the sweetest, I'm glad you liked it. But first, un très grand bonjour de l'Allemagne 😉 this video was actually recorded en Alsace, and I'm half French 😉 Big hugs right back, grosses bises et une bonne nouvelle année 🎉🤗
Thanks for this great introduction! I had seen videos of nooking before but never this clear and straightforward. I much prefer crochet over knitting, but do find knitted fabric to be much better for clothing. Love the idea of using this method! Already have some nooking needles in my shopping cart! Would love to get a recommendation for some nooking clothing patterns.
Wonderful! I always struggle with crochet clothing because of the texture and thickness. With knooking clothes or wearable will feel like knitted. And yes, there will be tutorials about how to knook wearables in the future 🤗
sorry, but just so you know, the second rib you showed isn't a rib stitch at all and isn't used as rib with regular knitting we'd always use the first version with the purls as this gives the stretchy finish. its actually tubular knitting or double knitting that you did which is a cool technique on its own, but you'll only have half the stitches on each side so you would need double the stitches to make it same width as your regular stockinette and double the rows to make the same height. you can do 2 or 4 rows of the slip stitch technique you showed before finishing with an Italian cast off or cast on to give you a beautiful rounded edge to your ribbing. great tutorial though :)
@@totally_fierce I am sorry for everyone who only reads english - please use a translator of your choice, as I will continue to answer in german.
Best thing ever 🤗
Have tried to knit using several different styles. For some reason, it always is the purl that is the hardest, apparently here as well! Looks possibly useful enough to try, needles have been ordered.
Yaaay, you won't regret it. Yes, the purl stitches are a bit more tricky but having the hook is a huge help to pick the loops up. Then just twist the hook and yarn under and done! Once you've made a few you can almost do them with closed eyes. Have fun knooking 🎉
I am very happy to see how this hook is used. I have these hooks already, for a rug hooking project, but prior knowledge of how to use this hook was needed. Know I understand what to do. Thank you very much again❤❤❤❤❤ Note:Tunisian type hooking is not a favorite of mine.😂
Hi, it's so funny that quite a few already have the knooking hooks without knowing what to do with them. I love that! And I'm glad that now I can show everyone what beautiful things to make with them 🎉🤗 PS: love your extra note 🤣😉
What you call “the regular knitting pattern” is known as stockinette stitch: Knit a row, Purl a row, knit a row, purl a row …. The edges of stockinette stitch always curl. That’s just life. If you want them to not curl, you can knit a few stitches at the beginning and end of each row. This will create a kind of knitted border that will lie flat. (I’m a knitter, can you tell? Haha!). I bought a Knook at a thrift shop a few months ago. I didn’t know what to do with it and I kind of forgot about it until I saw this video. This is brilliant! Looks like so much fun! I just grabbed my Knook hooks (this little set came with cables so I don’t even need to use yarn for the helper strand) and I’m going to give this a go. Thanks!
That's so cool, I didn't know there are knooking sets with cables! Awesome. I'm glad I provided you with something to try with these knooking needles or hooks. Unlike you I'm not a knitter so this technique is super cool for me. But it might be as well for someone who knows how to knit. Anyway, have fun trying it out 🤗
@ I live in the US. These were marked as Knooks here years and years ago. I think it was a trend for awhile and then it died out. I paid a dollar for my little kit, so it was a good investment! Hahaha!
Ingenious! I avoid knitting as I always drop stitches... this way you always have a "safety cord" to keep from doing that (unless you don't have enough length of helper yarn for the number of stitches)... I may try this on a kit I got to start knitting again (after I have a go with the knitting needles, and I get so frustrated with it I give up). Thank you for this tutorial!
there was a crochet tutorial about how to do a chainless foundation, foundationless chain(?)…whichever it was, and it was basically a long tail cast on with a twist, but there's a part that I was missing, but I just kept going, and ended up with all of my stitches on my crochet hook instead of the way, she showed it. thankfully, I found a better version of the long tail cast off for crochet and I absolutely love it.
Thank you. And yes, the helper yarn is exactly what it says: and awesome help. Keeps all the loops up. No worries about them falling off. You can make the helper yarn as long as you want to, depending on the project. Gave fun trying it out 🤗
@@douae5857 I literally just started back crocheting. I’ve only ever done chains when I was maybe 8. 🙈🙈😂😂 One of the reasons I was getting back into it. It’s because I have projects for my bearded dragon's viv and crocheting is a perfect way to get some of them done. I even twisted some regular bracelet hemp up & then did a long chain to add to his hammock. But I found, I believe three different videos that showed "chainless crochet foundation” One was absolutely awesome, one was good, but the better one was just more simple, but same idea. Then there was the one that was, not really sure how to explain it, but she was doing basically a long tail cast off. I undid my chain at least three or four times before I finally said “I’m just gonna keep going“ She ended up with the chain OFF of the crochet hook (NO clue how because I have no idea what I actually missed her doing) while I still had every single loop on my hook. I had gotten to the point of “let’s just see what happens“ & that's what happened. I just needed another needle. Needless to say I do not use that tutorial anymore. I still have absolutely no clue what I missed because I watched it so closely. but, I think I might just have to at least play with this a little bit.
@@douae5857 I just looked it up, I haven’t clicked on anything yet, but I also looked up “knitting lifelines be using crocheting" and I believe a whole New World of possibilities have now been opened up to me. I may never sleep again…
I sure hope you do better than and overview because I've tried to learn how to knook, and I.... well, I've learned to knit Eastern/Eastern European/Russian style (sooo easy) before I could learn to knook, so there you have it. I thought knitting was the hardest most frustrating thing in the world until I found the easy way of doing it and I still found it easier than trying to learn knooking.
I couldn't agree more. Knitting is super hard for me too. Tried so many times and stopped completely frustrated. So yes, knooking is way easier to learn and less likely to fail. I'll definitely make more and create easy and beautiful projects with it 🤗
I just ordered a set. Thank you for this tutorial. I've wanted to knit so bad but just not coordinated enough or have the patients. Im so happy. Subscribing 😊
Hi, I will show increases and decreases soon. Works very similar to knitting or even crochet. DEC: take up 2 loops and just make the stitch through both INC: make the first stitch through the loop. Then make another stitch through either the left or right leg of the V where you place the first stitch
I had mine stowed away for at least 10 years. And then early December I mentioned knooking in one of my vids and here we are 🤣 sometimes you just have to wait for the perfect time
I’ve never heard of seen this before. Really interesting. The first rows you made are called garter stitch, the next lot are called stocking stitch and a true rib. You have definitely produced a knitted fabric on one needle. I going to use the icord technique for my knitting.
Excellent! Thank you for telling me the names of the knitting patterns that I knooked. And I love that you are going to use the i-cord technique. I absolutely love it for a perfect and clean project start 🤗
Yaaay, I'm sure you'll love it. Knooking really feels like crocheting, but much faster, just adding loops and no "knots", and the result is knitting basically. A real hybrid 🎉 have fun trying it
This seems so much more complicated than knitting, but I would like to try it sometime to see. I wonder if there is an equivalent to help knitters like me crochet
Hi, when you have no issues with knitting then this is more like a fun alternative. For those who can't knit this is really a game changer because you have to feeling of crocheting and the result is knitting. Feel free to try it out. You might like it. And maybe that's also the bridge from knitting to crochet. Just like it is for us from crochet to knitting 😉
It seems a double ended crochet hook would work too(?). I’ve used the double ended hooks for Tunisian work as well. Pushing the yarn & turning the work seem to be similar in result. My one big challenge was keeping the yarn from the skeins from getting tangled. You are so skilled to have so many modalities on your finger tips! Thanks for introducing this yarny method.
Hi, it could work, but I would be afraid that the other end of the hook might get tangled up at some point. And you won't be able to make larger things with like 100 stitches in each row. The helper yarn can have any length. You just carry it along with the knooking hook 😉
Hi, thank you. I will make a little series about it and a few full tutorials. Increases and decreases are pretty easy (very similar to tunisian crochet): INC: Pull up a loop through the loop on the helper yarn twice (=2 new loops on the hook) DEC: pick up 2 loops from the helper yarn and make the stitch through both all together
I tried knooking for a bit and it was ok, but after learning to knit I simply couldn't think of any reason why I would choose knooking over knitting. The availability of sizes in knooking equipment is very limited compared to any other craft and in the end it is just knitting with extra steps. There was a short hype of knooking some years ago but I think that was because of one specific book that only addressed making hats and also not very delicate ones.
I know, when you know how to knit and have no issues knitting then this technique is not needed at all. But for everyone else who would love to make knitted fabrics but can't knit, this is a great way to do it 🤗
Ok - it your fault I have ordered a set of knooking hooks. 😂 I hope you are going to do increases and decreases for it as well. Or maybe a mini series? I have seen a couple of others videos - but yours are clearer instructions and better visual steps to follow. Thank you 🙏
🤣 you won't regret it! And if at some point you decide that knooking isn't your thing, you can always use the hooks for crochet 😉 I love your idea about the series. That might be cool so there would be mini episodes showing different parts of knooking. And I could still do full projects tutorials to apply the things shown in the mini episodes 🤗 thanks for the inspo
FYI. Your first set of stitches is called garter stitch, the second set is stockinette, and the third is ribbing. I am a many-years knitter but I will be digging out my knook hook and give it a try.
Thank you for telling me. I'll add it to the description. Have fun trying it. Although when you know how to knit you will most probably stock to it. But who know there are some who say they switch to knooking when working in the round and regular knitting for the flat. So who knows 😉
With a cable you could, although you would have to unlock the cable after each round and connecting the hook back again on the other side. I really with there would be a little ring or something that we could attach to our tunisian hooks so we could use them for knooking 🤗
Yes you can. They are done the same way. Put the loops on the cable, continue with those still on the helper yarn and then pick up the ones on the cable. Back in the days I used to make braided patterns with that 😊

Hi, Thomas. This is so crazy! I don't know when I'll get to this - before next winter. I see so many possibilities ~ thank you!
Ha, I learned new things daily and love it. That's the beauty of crafting. It's always evolving ✨️ have fun trying it out, it's super fun
@@totally_fierce So true! Thank you!
In colors!
Wow, thank you so much for sharing. I'm glad you're getting it back 🎉🤗
I’m a knitter who hates working 4 needles in the round. Circular needles only go so far. I’m hoping this works in the round, if so, it could be the answer! The eye cord cast on is so wonderful, I may reconsider learning to crochet.
You can do almost anything crocheting, you can work flat or circular with a large amount of stitches, it's funny and easier than knitting
I agree, that's why I love crochet so much. The possibilities are endless
I have never seen 38:23 this before I can't wait to start bringing my crocheting projects to the next level😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Same, I'm so happy I took my knooking hooks out again after so many years. This will definitely be next level crocheting 👌🤗
So cool, thank you for sharing. It looks so much easier than knitting. I can't knit either. I am looking forward to trying it.
Have fun trying it. It's way easier than knitting. I just love that now I can knit without actually knitting 🤣 so cool
I love this type of crochet and knitting, thank you for your toturiol after seeing your video today I order my knocking hooks set from Amazon, I should be receiving mine tomorrow, thank you very much, keep more toturiol coming
Thank you, I'm happy you wanna try it. And yes, I'm already working on more knooking tutorials, basics and full projects 🤗 coming soon
The extremes some people go to to avoid knitting!😆😆 This is so cool, I can’t wait to get my hooks to try!!♥️🤗
🤣🤣🤣 I'm not avoiding knitting. I just can't handle 2 knitting needles and nothing at the top of the needles to hold back the loops 🙈 but when there's a hook, I'm OK 🤣
But I can't wait to hear what you think of it. It feels crochet and looks knitted 😉
@@totally_fierce Lol!!😆
Continental knitting is easier than English style. I didn't think I would ever get knitting because I couldn't learn mirror style like I did crochet. My grandma tried and tried to teach me to no avail. I finally was able to pick up on it a few years ago by watching Bill Souza Yarncrafts For Lefties channel as well as Fiber Spider... Fiber Spider is right handed but a really good teacher and I just watched him very intently. @@totally_fierceAlso, I'm old enough to be your mom... So don't count regular knitting out for good just yet
Love the look of knitting but it’s too slow for me so to use a crochet hook is amazing thank you
@@totally_fierceYeah!
Thanks a lot and welcome to my channel 🤗 I'm sure you'll love this technique especially for wearables. They really feel like knitted
Thank you for you demonstration.
My pleasure 🙏
I'm 63 and taught myself how to crochet in 4th grade, but never heard of knooking! I love it! You are a wonderful teacher❤ i appreciate you teaching us how to do this wonderful skill! New sub too.
Aww thank you, I'm happy that you like it. And than you so much for subbing 🤗
Thank you for showing me this never seen it before love it
I'm glad you like it 🤗 have fun trying it
I love Tunisian crochet, I wish more people did it
I love tunisian crochet too.
I finally did manage to find some, so now it's wait time. lol
Same haha..I just went on eBay and bought 3 sizes...I knit but can’t crochet...hope this gets me started x
@@lynnb-TruckCastreauJr
I think he’s done that to a bunch of us
we’re just minding our own business, scrolling through RUclips, or even looking for something else completely different and apparently we were all just meant to see this.
*gasp*
I do believe we all have a new family now…
Oh no 🤣 I hope you get them fast tho. I saw them on various markets like Amazon, ebay and temu. I'm glad you found some 🤗
Hi, sure, for me as a crocheter, this feels a lot like crocheting. It'll definitely help to get a feeling for crochet 🤗
In my totally fierce family, everyone is very welcome 🤗
The first few are a bit tricky to make but once you know how to grab the loop and twist the yarn the auto pilot starts 🤣 anyway, thank you again and have fun trying it
You’ve totally sold me on this method! Love it!🧶🥰👍🏻
Thank you, I'm glad you like it. Have fun trying it out 🤗 it's super cool
@ I ordered some from Amazon and I’m going to get neighbors on both sides of me involved. One is in her 80’s & the other one is 10 years old so I’ll hopefully help get the next generation involved.😊🧶👍🏻 Thanks again 🙏🏼!!!
Didn't know! Love this! Love the thought of trying combining the knitting and crocheting on one piece.
That's what I find intriguing, too. I always love to combine techniques together to create something special and unique 🤗
Very interesting, I've never heard of knooking, thanks for the tutorial!

At 17:00 ish I think the word you are looking for is stockingnet stitch where it is only knits on the front and purls on the back.
Hi, thank you for telling me. So far I'm not firm on knitting pattern names. Learning a lot with this 🤗 thank you again and have a great new week

Thank you for this excellent tutorial! I'm a lefty so can't wait to see your left handed version 😊
Yaaay and hi fellow lefty! Lefty version is coming tomorrow 😉 have fun trying knooking 🤗
I have been looking for this …. I was trying to create this type of knitting with crochet hook needle but didn’t know how to make it this kind of needle ….and now I see it already exists …..Wow thank you for this video😊
You’re welcome 😊 you are going to love knooking, it's so much fun
This is so cool. I'm subscribing hoping you might provide some videos on using this technique in some projects or other resources we can use. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you. And yes I will make more knooking videos and full project tutorials. Already on it 😉
This is fascinating. It is like an eccentric form of knitting. I think we'd describe the knit stitches as being worked "through the back loop". I've often wondered if knitting would be easier with one of the needles replaced by a crochet hook, especially in Continental knitting which certainly challenges my dexterity.
Wow! I've never heard of this before! How intriguing!
I feel so too. It's really fun. I feels like you're crocheting and the result is a knitted piece 🎉😉
I love it, I can’t wait to get me a knooking hook.
Happy knooking, I'm sure you'll love it. It's so much fun 🎉
This makes me think of how I do a long tail cast on to start some of my crochet projects. Made it SO much easier to get comfortable doing crochet again.
I had only learned how to do a chain when I was little.
this is starting to feel like a loom meets, crochet meets, knitting all combined.
--I'm not sure what it is/if it makes sense, but it looks like a little mini/hand-held loom when the tail-piece is underneath the needle
I think you have given me something else to do now…or at least explore
Hi, it's definitely a hybrid of different things combined. That's what makes it very intriguing for me, too! Knowing that I'm useless with 2 knitting needles but now can knit with a hook just blows my mind. And still confuses me 🤣🤣
@@totally_fierce
my hands are useless half the time so knowing that there’s other choices out there can basically do the same thing or that I can switch back-and-forth from even possibly on the same project, awesome. That’s the only word for it. Is awesome.
Plus the neurodivergent/disabled stuck at home/5 different sleep disorders that don’t know what to do with themselves, etc. etc., I really need a new project or something every couple of hours. 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 I feel you, I have like new ideas every hour in my head trying to make everything but just two hands lol
And btw, i live combining techniques. Who says you can't? I mix crochet with tunisian, I start with i-cords and I'm pretty sure I'll have projects that combine all of the above plus knooking 🤣 that's the only way to satisfy my brain 😉

Hi, feel free trying it and have fun with it. I agree, the curling in tunisian crochet can be very frustrating. Knooking is definitely much less curly 😉
I’ve never heard of this! It’s wonderful! (I love crochet but I am horrible at knitting and get so frustrated!😣)

But first, un très grand bonjour de l'Allemagne 😉 this video was actually recorded en Alsace, and I'm half French 😉

This is so cool!!! Thank you for sharing :)
You are so welcome! 🤗
This is awesome. Thank you for this!!
You are so welcome! 😊 happy knooking
sorry, but just so you know, the second rib you showed isn't a rib stitch at all and isn't used as rib with regular knitting we'd always use the first version with the purls as this gives the stretchy finish.
its actually tubular knitting or double knitting that you did which is a cool technique on its own, but you'll only have half the stitches on each side so you would need double the stitches to make it same width as your regular stockinette and double the rows to make the same height. you can do 2 or 4 rows of the slip stitch technique you showed before finishing with an Italian cast off or cast on to give you a beautiful rounded edge to your ribbing.
great tutorial though :)
Wow, thank you for sharing your knitting knowledge! As a crocheter who can't knit there is a lot to learn for me. So any input is much appreciated 🤗
@@totally_fierce I am sorry for everyone who only reads english - please use a translator of your choice, as I will continue to answer in german.
Was Du gearbeitet hast, ergibt tatsächlich - wie oben erklärt - zwei Lagen.
Thank you very much again❤❤❤❤❤
Note:Tunisian type hooking is not a favorite of mine.😂

I had seen those strange hooks before and always wondered what they were used for!!! Thank you for sharing this info!!! going to sub!
Thank you for subbing 🤗 feel free to try it out. If in the end it's not your thing you can always use the hooks for regular crochet
Hahaha!
🤣 very good deal! But yes, it just died. I totally forgot about it myself for at least 10 years or so. But now I'm on a knook revival 🤣
@@totally_fierce Apparently I’m joining you! 😂
Yaaay 🎉
Excellent tutorial! Thanks!
Thank you so much 😊
I've never seen a hook like that. Interesting.
Right? Quite simple really with just a hole for the helper yarn 🤗
Gave fun trying it out 🤗
Look into how to do a lifeline for knitting! If you use circular needles, it's so easy.
@@douae5857
I literally just started back crocheting. I’ve only ever done chains when I was maybe 8.
🙈🙈😂😂
One of the reasons I was getting back into it. It’s because I have projects for my bearded dragon's viv and crocheting is a perfect way to get some of them done. I even twisted some regular bracelet hemp up & then did a long chain to add to his hammock.
But I found, I believe three different videos that showed "chainless crochet foundation”
One was absolutely awesome, one was good, but the better one was just more simple, but same idea. Then there was the one that was, not really sure how to explain it, but she was doing basically a long tail cast off.
I undid my chain at least three or four times before I finally said “I’m just gonna keep going“
She ended up with the chain OFF of the crochet hook (NO clue how because I have no idea what I actually missed her doing) while I still had every single loop on my hook. I had gotten to the point of “let’s just see what happens“ & that's what happened. I just needed another needle. Needless to say I do not use that tutorial anymore.
I still have absolutely no clue what I missed because I watched it so closely.
but, I think I might just have to at least play with this a little bit.
@@douae5857
I just looked it up, I haven’t clicked on anything yet, but I also looked up “knitting lifelines be using crocheting" and I believe a whole New World of possibilities have now been opened up to me.

Thanks for sharing an eye opener!!❤❤
My pleasure, I totally forgot about this beautiful technique and I'm happy that I got my knooks out again to show everyone 🤗
Yaay that makes me happy. And I'm sure you'll love it. Really easy and fun 🎉 happy knooking
how to increase and decrease, wonderful techinque
Hi, I will show increases and decreases soon. Works very similar to knitting or even crochet.
DEC: take up 2 loops and just make the stitch through both
INC: make the first stitch through the loop. Then make another stitch through either the left or right leg of the V where you place the first stitch
Beautiful work thank you
Thank you so much 🤗
I did know about it and I actually have several knooking hooks. I just not into it yet 😂
I had mine stowed away for at least 10 years. And then early December I mentioned knooking in one of my vids and here we are 🤣 sometimes you just have to wait for the perfect time
Hello Thomas thank you for the tutorial . I shall have a go once I have purchased the hooks
Hi Neil, definitely try it. I know you love to try out new techniques just like me. And I think this is really fun 🤗🎉
Awesome I have never seen this before.
I'm glad I restarted knooking and now can show this beautiful technique on my channel 🤗

That's so cool with my hands being so sore from aritis😢ok can't spell but u know what I'm saying I'm gona try this
I know exactly what you mean. I have a lot of arthritis myself all over 🤣🙈 and this technique makes is way easier
Looks fun.
It really is! Fun and very fast 🎉
This is so cool! Can you show us how to increase and decrease ? Please.....❤
Hi, thank you. I will make a little series about it and a few full tutorials. Increases and decreases are pretty easy (very similar to tunisian crochet):
INC: Pull up a loop through the loop on the helper yarn twice (=2 new loops on the hook)
DEC: pick up 2 loops from the helper yarn and make the stitch through both all together
I hope you are going to do increases and decreases for it as well. Or maybe a mini series?
I have seen a couple of others videos - but yours are clearer instructions and better visual steps to follow.
Thank you 🙏
🤣 you won't regret it! And if at some point you decide that knooking isn't your thing, you can always use the hooks for crochet 😉
I love your idea about the series.
I love it!!
Thank you, me too 🤗
Very interesting!!!👏👏👏
I think so too 😉🤗
If you do a plain stitch at the beginning and end of each purl row the edge won't curl so much.
Thanks for the tip! Will definitely incorporate that 🤗
Would it be possible to do this with tunisian crochet hooks too?
With a cable you could, although you would have to unlock the cable after each round and connecting the hook back again on the other side. I really with there would be a little ring or something that we could attach to our tunisian hooks so we could use them for knooking 🤗
Please do more knooking videos especially in the round
I definitely will! Already working on something that also includes knooking in the round 😉🤗
This to me is just like Tunisian crochet
Could you do cable stitches with this method?
Yes you can. They are done the same way. Put the loops on the cable, continue with those still on the helper yarn and then pick up the ones on the cable. Back in the days I used to make braided patterns with that 😊
In knitting terms: First technique is called the garter stitch. Second is called stockinette. Third technique is called double knitting.
Perfect, thank you for telling me. We can all learn from each other 🤗 I'll add that to the description
