    Amber over dramatized everything, EXCEPT the stuff that SHOULD have been really traumatizing, like being raped with a glass bottle, in which case she basically blew it off. Saying she didn’t even seek medical care. WTF?!?

      I’m the type to question my own beliefs of something after time passes, right? Was I biased towards the funny, artistic actor man? Do I just not like how she talks, so I was biased against a traumatised victim? Is it possible for both of them to be toxic in this relationship and for both to be lying their asses off in the court? I don’t wanna be the person who is stuck on their own beliefs and not admit when they’re wrong.
      So I always try to look from AH side, and wonder if she is truly the victim with a bad lawyer. But no matter what, from the beginning, I will always be stuck on the recordings. Now that you bring this up, it just reminds me about how there’s just a lot of things that didn’t add up in her statements and it’s not a matter of biases.

    The Kate Moss thing was a bit bigger than that. She was not allowed to testify because she was considered a character witness, and it wasn't allowed. Amber bringing it up made Moss testifying allowed as a rebuttal witness. Elaine won the fight to exclude her, and Amber pulled the rug out from under her.

    • @skylerfelix7609

      Which further explains Elaine’s difficulty with her on direct and re direct. Elaine couldn’t trust Amber to stay on topic and not go into things that would’ve been objected to. So she tried to form extremely narrow and leading questions that would keep Amber in line. But Camille is a better trial lawyer than Elaine is, and it showed in that re direct.

    • @Ocrilat
      @Ocrilat 8 месяцев назад

      @@skylerfelix7609 I'm not sure it explains anything at all. I think there were two separate issues here. Amber was a bad witness because her testimony was false. She was treading a fine line here...she needed to make her story make sense to the jury, without straying too much from the UK testimony. But her own lies, possible mental illness, and the need to keep changing her version to match the evidence made her narrative easy to show made no sense. They say never lie on the stand. This is why.
      Elaine's seeming incompetence is a separate issue. I don't know WHY she was so bad here. Her terrible performance can't be blamed on a bad client though. She didn't know courtroom procedure. She didn't know how cross examination worked. Both her and Rottonborn put on cases that didn't match their open/close. Both her and Rottonborn were more or less unlikable to any jury (that shouldn't matter, but it does). She in particular wasted a lot of time asking opposing witness question after question that went nowhere. She seemed like she didn't know what she was doing, but also appeared unprepared...especially on cross, like she was winging it.

    • @zoso1980
      @zoso1980 8 месяцев назад +142

      Yes. Horrible client to deal with. I think many who have observed Amber bullying her representation is 100% accurate. She was going to dictate strategy and her legal team couldn't argue to win because of the messes she created. My favorite moment though of Moss's testimony was a visibly uncomfortable and I'd say, jealous bout of body language from Amber. You could tell Kate Moss got under her skin not only because she's more than Amber will ever be (which I believe was the real reason for the jealousy), she was also praising Depp as a honorable guy.

    • @Ocrilat
      @Ocrilat 8 месяцев назад +105

      @@zoso1980 I agree that she was almost certainly a nightmare...but it doesn't explain why Elaine didn't know court procedure, or how to cross examine a witness. The only thing I can come up with is, when you want a professional to risk their career and reputation by acting without integrity...then you have a limited pool of choices.
      On Moss...another thing is, if Johnny's psychologist was right (and I believe she was) then Amber's mental illness would cause her to see Johnny as her possession. Seeing Kate Moss as still in Johnny's life would have made her jealous. Same with Camille. I think Johnny and Camille acting so close during the trial was a show to infuriate Amber...and it 100% worked.

      This old man had an abusive young trophy wife who would nag, belittle, gaslight, and physically abuse him. to cope he would run from house to house, from vacation villa to movie set, just to be away from her, all while fueled on drugs and alcohol. this would anger her more restarting the cycle with new talking points for her to want to fight about.

    The reason why Amber Heard lost was because every person, including the jury, sat there and heard a woman tell a ridiculous story. Ridiculous. How? Because everyone who has ever suffered a punch or even an accident to the face, remembers very clearly how they looked. And they know, no amount of " concealer " could cover up those injuries. When I fell on the sidewalk, I hit my face. Not only did I have a swollen black eye, my eye was also bloodshot, and I had a cut between the eye and my eyebrow. Meanwhile, Ms.Heard told the jury that Mr. Depp punched her in her face " so many times, I can't remember " and he did so wearing multiple rings which, in this case, amounts to wearing brass knuckles, and she not only didn't get a tooth knocked out, but could cover up black and blues, swelling, a broken nose, and assorted cuts, i.e. a fat lip, all of that, with concealer and some cream. This compounded by the fact that, I assume Ms. Heard's " acting ability " is directly related to her beauty. Her face is her fortune. And she expected the jury to believe that she took beatings, putting her future " acting " parts in jeopardy? And then she wanted the jury to believe she was deathly afraid of him. Well, we heard how she talked to him. Those words didn't come out of a woman who was afraid. And while I'm at it: if she was so deathly afraid of him, why would she bring James Franco and Musk to the penthouse owned by Depp which is loaded with cameras, security, and employees who could rat her out? Don't they have apartments she could go to? Even my dog knows not to shit where you eat. This is why she lost the case. Plain and simple, she's a liar.

      I've bopped myself in the face with a kitchen cabinet and gotten worse black eyes than hers. It honestly looked like she just had a sleepless night, maybe had a couple drinks and took her makeup off and decided that was a 'black eye' at least for the ones that hit the tabloid during the TRO. She 'got slapped' constantly by a man with chunky rings and yet not a single cut on her face?
      She talked about John Wick level fights spanning multiple rooms, levels of the penthouses, getting knocked down and dragged over glass. But she could walk through the airport the next day to go home and not a single person saw her cut up feet and arms and bruised up face? She allegedly stopped at the airport giftshop to get a damn self help book and no one saw anything? The ONE security guard that was apparently at these events that knew what was going on and saw it first hand is the one that happens to be dead. I dont know who she thought she'd be fooling

The thing is y'all hang up on details that have no relevance to abuse or what the case is about. You think the pledge thing is important but it holds no bearing on whether she was abused. She is not a gold digger, she did not take any spousal support or houses or cars which she was entitled to!!!!! She took the dogs and the settlement to donate which she started to but then informed the charities she would not be able to continue as she'd hoped and that the money would come in slower than their original 10 year scheduled plan because she was being sued. she signed a 10 year contract people! She was never going to donate a whole lump sum of money at once! And the charities knew that! Johnny didn't even give her the whole fucking settlement at one time in one payment, how was she going to give all the money to the charities immediately when she didn't have it all immediately??? The thing that made me sick also, was on the NBC show after the trial, they had a "Opinion" columnist from the always "honest" New York Times. She thinks the reason Heard lost was because of the MISOGYNIST MOB MENTALITY!! Well, ok?!! The thing she fails or refuses to point out is the fact that The ME TOO mentality that was running rampant through Hollywood at that time, absolutely DESTROYED DEPPS CAREER!! He was cut from Disney, totally removed from Fantastic Beasts, no more Pirates of the Caribbean!! And pretty much was strung up in the media straight across the board. BEFORE A SHREED of evidence came out. They blindly took her word on it. 90% of people going into the start of the trial were backing Heard. (I just can't bring myself to call her Miss or Ms. That's a term for ladies.) BUT, as the EVIDENCE came out it was so OBVIOUS she was in the wrong that only zealots still believed her story. I just can't get over how fast the opinions shifted. And I think Depp got what he actually set out to do, BRING THE ACTUAL TRUTH to light. No Heards "Own" truth, but, the actual truth. I'm glad for him, I'm glad he just rolled with the punches when they tried to tear down his character by EXPOSING his extra curricular activities. Such as him having a "mega pint" of his favorite beverage. But, by admitting his short comings, and not just flat out lying, like SOME PEOPLE have, uh-hmm, he came across more believable. Where as her, with the things like, Donate/pledge synonymously, just looks awful. Then her insinuating that EVERYONE else was lying, and she was the only beacon of truth in all of California, when there was undeniable evidence, was just hard to watch. Granted, I think the lawyers did a good job on Depps side, I really don't think Heards lawyers were that horrible. I think they had a job that was just impossible. I mean, the only people I remember really being on her side was her sister, and that weird psychiatrist. Which, really backfired on them, cause Depps Psychiatrist tore Heards guy all up. And while Heards sister was running Depp into the ground, what does he do? Does he attack her? Does he run her down? NO!!! He admits that they had some good times together, and that he actually took her in and let her live in one of his Penthouses, and not charging her a dime!!! So, he comes across as a good guy, even to those who speak and act poorly to him. I think Heards Attorneys were just screwed from jump street. It was like trying to defend someone who said they seen a UFO!! Like, how do you prove it if you didn't take any good pics, but, the ones you did take you put them through photoshop software!! They literally had the job of picking gnat crap out of black pepper!! Just, impossible. So, I'm sorry for rambling on, there was just alot for me to get off of my chest. And I had just seen that new york times reporters interview. How did she ever get a job writing her opinion? Her and Heard are definitely riding around on the same cloud of victimhood. Oh well, is what it is.

It was tried in a court of law, in front of a real judge who used rules of the bar to decide what evidence to allow in and what to keep out. It was tried in front of a real jury who saw what anyone else who tuned in saw, that AH had no concrete evidence to back any of her claims. Then add witnesses who show AH made false statements on the stand, like about Kate Moss, and it shows a pattern.

    The craziest part of Amber's storytelling, was her constant over-prosecution of Johnny's opiate addiction inside a country with literally an epidemic with thousands upon thousands of citizens that are from all social steps of the social ladder, all walks of life, clergy people, doctors, politicians, athletes, as she tries to paint that as proof that Johnny is evil and abusive, in a country with an epidemic size of people who have been or are currently addicted to pain pills or the street form of said pain pills. She expected a huge blow up of shame and judgement in a country where this is the most common dependency out of every drug on the planet. People relate with Johnny's issues. People can say, "been there" or "I know someone who has" as a form of mental illness. That doesn't make one an abuser or rapist and she continuously tries to tie those together. It doesn't work. More Americans can empathize with Johnny's shortcomings, than Amber's with her wild accusations, lies, and bizarre behavior like shitting in his bed. She's so dead set on the lie that if she can convince 'we the people' that he is addicted to oxicodone, then we will automatically find him to be am evil monster. That's not the angle she should have gone with. She's been busted for lying and she got what she worked for, justice. And I hope we never see her again.

      You’d be surprised that in 70% of one sided abuse/ domestic violence it’s the women who are the perpetrators. When it’s mutual abuse the numbers are around the same. Around 46/47% I think. In cases of mutual domestic violence men inflict more physical harm onto their partners which often leads to women having to go to hospital for their injuries. Because of that, society thinks that it is men who are mostly the perpetrators of domestic violence. Nothing is further from the truth.

    "Why do you think they did not believe her?"
    I can answer this one: Because she was proven to be lying - falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus. Also, her injuries were fantastical. I counted AT LEAST three separate instances where she would have needed serious medical attention after, not showing up in public looking perfectly fine the next day.

    Rottenborn says Mr Depp "will not take accountability for his own actions" and YET he sat in the witness box and took accountability for his addictions - addictions which, frankly, were not that much his fault.
    He hurt himself filming and was given, by a doctor, large doses of opiods. And this was in the midst of an abusive, violent, horrible relationship. The abused person will often end up self medicating. Plus this all took place under a doctor's care. That doctor continued to give him prescriptions for those opiods. BUT he presented NEITHER of these two reasons for why he became addicted to the court. He just said "I did it, it was wrong, I was wrong.".
    Then there's Heard, who claimed she didn't drink or use drugs....but her own medical records list her as abusing about 15 different substances, uppers and downers, and she writes "Drugs" on her wedding plan.
    I wondered how much Rottenborn loathed Heard.

      He must've been well paid by the ins cos. Both he & Elaine had to know she was lying, but at least he didn't go on network shows to lie more! Elaine sure did & very nearly lost her law license! Judge A threatened to seriously hurt her, financially & professionally after she went on & was interviewed by Gayle King to STOP doing that or face sanctions & potential loss of her law license!! I believe everyone deserves their day in court but not to lie & have multiple attys lie for them, not to mention being so sold on the lies they'd go on & do TV interviews spouting those lies! She knew the UK trial was NOTHING that should've ever been allowed into the court on defamation! Yet she took her show on the road, repeating the lie that AH BEAT JD in the UK trial! She did no such thing! She wasn't a named party in the UK & Elaine knew that! I assume she'll attract other crooks, but I'd say, I'd HOPE, many will now know Elaine's good for bending the truth to her & her clients will!! Sad, really! Didn't take a rocket surgeon to know those were lies she was promoting!!

      Agree with your overall point, except his addiction being "not that much his fault." I hear what you're saying, but as you pointed out, even Johnny recognized it was his fault. We don't know what condition(s) Johnny had our the quantity/dosage of the prescription. I've been given opiates from my doctor, and I was addicted for 2 years, and in addition to my prescription, I was also buying them elsewhere. We don't know if Johnny seeked out a doctor willing to give him what he wanted, or if he was getting additional opiates somewhere else. Not suggesting the doctor doesn't share some responsibility, but ultimately it's the individuals decision. And I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny was using to escape the turmoil in his relationship with AH, and someone as rich and famous as he is, won't have any problem securing them.
      Again, agree with your overall point, but from personal experience I feel that Johnny is at fault, independent of any doctor or pull pusher, who are also largely at fault.

    • @PhoebeMc
      @PhoebeMc 8 месяцев назад +6

      @topspot4834 we were told he had some dental surgery that started him on opioids but once he realized it was out of control, his, he had the means to get help once he decided to get clean. I dunno what Dr on the planet earth would've allowed her to be there, never mind control his meds, but that NEVER should've happened!! I get she was a royal pain everyone tried to placate but dang... put your foot down, Dr! He should've been the heavy & told her NO! YOU CAN'T COME ALONG! I get why that venture wasn't successful. She claimed to want him sober but, :1) She derailed his attempts to do so by being there, chastising him, & monkeying with his meds, & 2) She wouldn't stop her use to help him and that's huge!! If anyone's ever been there, they know... you CANNOT be around someone who continues to use! ANYTHING! My son got clean & then his wife wanted him back, BUT he'd stopped EVERYTHING & she wouldn't lay down a couple of things he'd been on for years, and that's that! She's unwilling to do the same but insisted he do it. He did & then she wouldn't. That was the end of their marriage, sadly. I bet, tho we don't know, JD didn't manage to get clean until he got rid of her! How could he? It was a joke to her! We know she didn't REALLY want this, tho! I think she really planned to use his addiction to get rid of him. Easy. Just one or two too many... maybe he did or backed off, I dunno, & likely never will but I do know what he tried never would've worked with her in the picture! It really was not what she wanted. But yeah...JD was in chg, he knew he couldn't keep out up, & was very tired of it. Dr bears responsibly in the beginning but not later. Later is all on JD to fix. I'm sure he knows that, tho.

  • @Hidakaku56

    Ya know, one thing I never understood about Rottenborn's closing was that he said "You don't ever leave Mr. Depp...if you do he will start a global smear campaign against you, destroy your career and your life.". Yet besides Heard's claims there's no evidence of that. All of his other girlfriends/wives have had very VERY successful careers after they broke from him. Winona Ryder, Kate Moss, Vanessa Paridis...none of them had some kind of smear campaign against them, none of them had their careers destroyed or their lives threatened.
    And just like with the abuse claims, the past is kind of damning *against* Heard. Abusers don't usually just start abusing at 58. If they are so vindictive as to destroy your life and career and start smear campaigns, they do that to *all* their girlfriends/wifes not just the one.

      The other wives and girlfriends having nothing bad to say about Depp was a big red flag for me. It's like every time a famous, powerful man (who actually did it) gets accused of something awful, dozens of other victims come out of the woodwork like #Metoo, but in Amber's Case, no one ever even anonymously put out that they had been a victim of Johnny's too. I mean, I'm sure it's possible that someone could pick only one single person to abuse throughout their lifetime, but most abusive men in these powerful positions have several victims over years and years.
      The fact that Johnny's accusations didn't go as typical in that way didn't make me think anyone was more or less innocent, but it definitely helped me recognize early on that something was very off.

    edit: evidence being that within hours of this supposed incident, Amber and Johnny attended a party and there's a photo of her looking her usual immaculate self with a man who was only in town for that night, according to flight records.

    This trial is a perfect example of why we absolutely NEED cameras in every court room!! Transparency is the only way to see and hear the truth. Do you all remember how the media tried to say Amber is a victim and everyone is just being mean to her, and then we saw the trial and we're like WTF!! I never believed these claims bcuz I think true abusers don't pick and choose-this would've come up early in Johnny's career and not just start in his 50s!! My God I'm so glad the truth came out and Amber was exposed for ALL of her lies!!! So glad Johnny got justice!! Get help Amber get help!

    Okay, here's what convinced me of Johnny Depp's innocence:
    1.) If he beat her up in the way she claims, why did she not press criminal charges? I would have understood that if she hadn't talked about this publicly (which is what so many victims of domestic violence do). But going public in this way and not pressing criminal charges makes no sense at all.
    2.) She did not seek medical attention for potentially severe injuries that would have affected her health for a long time if not lifelong. Why wouldn't she? She is an actress, for crying out loud. That would have affected her fitness for work, not even starting to talk about quality of life.
    3.) As she did not seek medical attention, there is a severe lack of medical reports backing up her claims of injuries. Again: A whole lot of domestic violence victims do not seek medical attention and they live with the limitations their life has because of these poorly healed injuries. But especially those victims tend not to go public in the way Amber Heard did, even if they could.
    4.) The first thing that perplexed me were the audio recordings. That showed simply too much of her being aggressive and him being defensive; don't get me wrong: he certainly is no saint. Couples fight; couples yell at each other; there's no one you can get as furious at as the person you love. (For more on that see the corresponding literature on the psycological background of this aspect of human behaviour.)
    5.) Over the trial, I got the impression that even Amber Heard's team lost faith in her. Even Elaine, trying to save face during trial and in public apperances, did not appear to really believe what her client claimed.
    I did watch most of the trial live, out of interest as I live in Germany and our laws here are quite a lot different from what there is in the USA. And I followed up on the UK trial, mostly with the videos from an Australian lawyer (Lost beyond Pluto) who showed and explained the documents as they were publicized. I already had my severe doubts when the UK trial was underway.
    A note about the UK trial: In my understanding, that was to show if that "journalist" had enough reason to believe that Amber Heard's claims were true to report in the way that he did. From my understanding (but I am no lawyer at all!), the verdict in that case went overboard - and it was one of the reasons why that donation/pledge question was so very important in the US trial: One of the reasons the judge believed Amber Heard was that she claimed having donated (not pledged, donated!) those seven million dollars of the divorce settlement which led him to the conclusion that she could not have been a "gold digger".
    Also, Johnny Depp tried to appeal the UK verdict which is quite a difficult process in the UK and the outcome was that the verdict stands although (!) there seemingly were claims by the witness Amber Heard that might not be true. If you're interested, have a look at those documents, too. It is very enlightening, in my opinion.
    Sorry, long post. I just had to get that off my chest somewhere, as today on German early-morning TV there was a presentation of the movie Jeanne du Barry (which was highly recommended) and the presenter could not keep himself from commenting on this whole ordeal and the US trial, referring to Johnny Depp as "box office poison" for Hollywood productions because of all this. So, even here, even now, the actions of Ms Heard do have an impact on his work and subsequently on his livelihood. That is what happens when women accuse men of such heinous actions - they are believed at least to a point where the man is under constant scrutiny. That makes her accusing him in this way so very, very upsetting.

      I watched the trial too and was really sad to think that JD had done what he was accused of (I knew nothing about the case, I just like him as an artist). I came to the same conclusion that you did - he didn't do those things, and it is still very upsetting. I can't see how anyone that watched the trial could believe her! Thank goodness the jury took their job seriously and his legal team did such a good job as well.
      You don't have to be a huge Depp fan to care about the truth or fairness in general. I think her lawyers are focusing on some hypothetical victim because deep down they know she is not one. That is a dangerous road to tread because it doesn't involve real empathy it involves thinking you are superior and in a position to "stand up for victims" without having a CLUE what actual victims need or want. I think many people take that stance, not because they care, but because it is an invisible wall between them and danger or weakness or poverty or whatever they think can't happen to them. It's sad as well as frustrating.
      Lol, sorry this is so long :)

      @@freddiestardust I still subscribe to that channel because they make some good notes that I had used for a paper on manic pixie girlfriends Trope is actually more harmful than good for girls and it's just lazy writing by men writers. Because they're just used as a stepping stone for the male protagonist and once he gains some growth, she either dies because of her lack of definition. But that was for an essay on this horrible book called Feed. Everyone else was praising how good the book was, I debated how awful it was. And how it was like pulling teeth because the manic pixie girlfriend was at its worst but its very definition. I ended up getting an A- on the paper. However when it comes to real life people, I didn't hear them say boo about Lori Daybell or about Courtney the onlyfans model that murdered her boyfriend. They're like, completely tone-deaf when it comes to women who are in real life narcissistic abusers and murderers. Their biases was really disappointing. 2nd thought was how curious that not once has she been viewed with a bruise, and suddenly, years later she shows up in public with a big bruise claiming abuse. It seemed staged to me. I had doubts.
    Another scary thing is that AH just needed to be a better actor, and probably some of the allegations might have stuck.

    Amber was a terrible witness on the stand - but having unlikeable Elaine Bredehoft on her side certainly didn't help, along with the two expert witnesses. They made a lethal combination. But then, she deserved nothing better.
    The crazy thing is, if AH had just said she had changed her mind on the donations, that she needed the money herself to see her through the next chapter of her life, people would have been a bit grumpy about it, but ultimately they'd have understood. But she hung on to that lie, and got other people to make at least some donations on her behalf. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

      Yeah if she had just copped to not having donated it, I think it would have been annoying to most but fine in the end. Honestly you could say that about her entire cross exam. If she had rolled with the punches - like saying 'Yes, Johnny did get me the roll in Aquaman, I got a lot of things that I might not have gotten otherwise when I was with him.' - instead of trying to punch back all the time, she might have won.
      Her evidence was primarily hot garbage but if she had been more honest instead of over playing what she did have and came across as less vindictive and angry and so quick to argue she might have beaten the 'actual malice' part of it and gotten away with it
