      I think Spyderco did an excellent job. This knife is made for salt, and many people use their knife around salt water without necessarily getting into the sand. Perhaps a fixed blade would be better for people working in the sand, but for most fishing, kayaking, swimming, and other boating activities, a Salt folder is nearly perfect.

    I wish Spydercos sold for less but I wish everything sold for less. They are, for the most part, much more reasonable than Benchmade. I trust Spyderco's heat treatments so I'm more willing to to buy their higher end steel blades. I'm not 100% on board with the lack of liners on many knives so less enthused with the lightweight series. The yellow color is to help you find it if dropped in water. I have no difficulty one hand closing mid backlocks. I have the Endura, Police, Native Chief, Delica & Godderd with mid backlocks. I don't really need the level of rust proof - ness advertised here but I'm in favor of choices. The Magnacut held up to you pry tests which is a good thing. Thanks for continued testing & not selling knives as so many do.

    Not sure about the sand test. It is stainless, not sand proof. I live near the sea, but it is rocky with no sand. I lived in a tropical country (sandy coast, but never carried a knife on the beach) where even supposedly stainless steal tended to rust in beach houses from the combination of sea water in the air and heat or whatever it was. Anyone working on sea might also be interested.,
    Yes, if you are going to use it around sand than a fixed blade would be the way to go, but there are enough scenarios where that is not the issue, but a highly corrosive environment still is.

    I love most of your videos but this one……not so much. I think the native 5 is a freaking masterpiece. Some people say it’s an outdated design, I happen to like it. The Native 5 Magnacut is great. It’s a light weight folding knife and meant to be treated and used as a folding knife. You can’t be upset that an apple isn’t an orange, ya know? Mine came incredibly sharp and tuned perfectly. It’s really is an ideal pocket carry for a day at the lake or normal water hobbies/activities. Don’t expect it to be a hard-use by any means. It’s not built for that. Throw it in your bathing suit pocket and hit the water. You won’t be disappointed. ESPECIALLY for its very reasonable price tag. It’s definitely worth it.

    I have an old native 1 back lock. It is completely riveted, can’t even adjust the pivot. I had to leave my knife partially open for a few weeks whenever I wasn’t using it to get the spring to loosen up for the lock. I’d just slowly open it and watch for the lock to fully compress and leave it like that. I can reverse spydie flick it no problem. Trying to thumb open still doesn’t work well unless I slow roll it. But loosened up really nice and really smooth doing that.

    Watching you stab into the log was illuminating. The rest of your video is poor. Spyderco puts a lot of thought into the hardware they use. If you're going to criticize the components for having the potential to rust, then research them more and/or test them. Spyderco is also known for the best heat treatment. So while a user may not need Magnacut, they can decide this for themselves and at least they are getting good performance compared to other brands. Again, you could test for this. Finally, this is not the base version of this model if you want the design for less then the S30V version is a bit less money.

    • @CuttingBoardRx
      @CuttingBoardRx  Год назад +3

      MagnaCut today is what S30V was in 2012 - a future budget steel that everyone is going to use. Look up some videos for that era, people were arguing that S30V is soooo much better than 154CM and vice-versa. And galvanic corrosion is not something I made up - look it up while you’re at it. Happy New Year!
