true, definitely.she was nominated but lost to Gloria Grahame for "Bad and the Beautiful'.I don't know why Grahame was even nominated , let alone won.She was only on screen for 7 minutes

Every gesture and movement Jean Hagen does with her body language and face is pure comedy genius. Not a millisecond of her physical acting isn't at max.

Jean Hagen. One of America's national treasures. No award in those days could adequately honor her achievement in this movie. Now that almost 60 years on we all know how exceptional she was as Lina Lamont, she needs a posthumous Oscar or her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her superbly played role in Singing In The Rain.

Jean Hagen is my absolute favorite actress in this movie! She was so funny and brilliant that even my 14 year old will actually sit and watch this incredible musical. Everyone is so wonderful in this film, but Jean Hagen was a scene stealer. I have two favorites of this film, this scene and the Cyd Charisse (green dress) and Gene Kelly dance sequence.

the whole movie is sheer perfection ..all of it..but this is the scene that always makes me piss in my pants!! Jean Hagen with that accent was a joy and a total delight not only to watch but to listen to!! and she practically stole the show from eveyone ....and that's not easy with a trio like Kelly-Reynolds-O'Connor and the wonderful Cyd Charisse!! That's all! I 'cayyyn't' go on: must watch this clip again!!

She managed to say "cahn't" but couldn't manage "stahnd."

I’m playing Lina in my community theatre production. 1. Lina’s coach’s name is Miss Dinsmore, and the doods’ coach doesn’t have a name - 2. Now my friends Trista and Cade won’t stop screaming “Well I can’t make love to a bush!” even though, it being a middle school group production, it’s now “Well I can’t do a darn love scene with an icky bush!”
