    Can we all just agree that stolen valor is disgusting?

    • @NLTops
      @NLTops 4 года назад +53

      @Ted Kaczynski was right So we should just let mentally ill people do whatever they want? Think before you answer that question yea. Also, many people faking being in the military are scammers trying to get money or discounts.

    • @NLTops
      @NLTops 4 года назад +54

      @Ted Kaczynski was right Blatantly obvious huh? To me the only blatantly obvious thing is that you make a lot of assumptions about strangers. Also, you're wrong. I have both family and friends with mental illnesses. I also have my own personality disorder so I've talked to plenty of psychiatrists and psychologists. I also used to date a doctor and I remember quite well the stories she came home with from when she had (part of) her internship in a psych ward.
      You don't help people by letting people live in their delusion. You help them by pulling them out of their delusions. The more other people accept their delusions the deeper they fall in. Have you ever heard of "killing someone with kindness"? It would apply to your approach of dealing with mental illness.
      Or are you going to tell the guy having a psychosis that his hair really is made out of snakes? Or the guy with schizophrenia that he really must be hearing the voice of God? Your "compassion" arguement is all about making you feel good about yourself and has nothing to do with the mental illness of the person you're "helping".

    • @Holocaustica
      @Holocaustica 4 года назад +28

      I’m not really seeing these people running a scam or claiming benefits that are not theirs. They look like wannabes playing dress-up. Which is one of the freedoms real soldiers and sailors died for. Harassing wannabes has got to be easier than fighting insurgents. But there’s a bit less glory in it, no?

    • @NLTops
      @NLTops 4 года назад +28

      @@Holocaustica You sound pretty naïve. Many stores give discounts to soldiers and/or veterans. Just because you don't "see them running a scam" specifically in the video, doesn't mean they aren't.
      Also, pretending to be something you're not is already a dishonourable thing to do when it's not about being in the military. But when you pretend to have served and watched your comrades die, when you pretend to have fought for your country when you havn't, that is disrespectful to those who have. It's like spitting on the graves of those who have sacrificed their lives for your present and future.
      And I don't think anyone confronts these people for their "glory". They confront them because what they're doing is disrespectful and it makes them feel unappreciated for their and their comrades' (actual) sacrifices.

    • @Holocaustica
      @Holocaustica 4 года назад +10

      I’m sorry. They’re committing a crime even if nobody catches them committing a crime? Or, just because I can’t see the evidence of a crime being committed, the fact that they COULD be committing a crime, is enough for you to say they totally are?

      After I ended the war early by tossing a bomb straight through an open window into saddams bathroom, while he was taking a dump, I got sent to this super secret special, don't tell your mom kind of unit.
      I might get in trouble for telling you this, but after the iraq war my unit, that was stationed at groom lake was sent to some distant planet the origin of wich is super classified, where we fought these giant insects. That's where I lost my arm and earned my 16th medal of honor.

    I don't understand what their fascination is....I've been a cop for 16 years, detective now so I wear plain clothes, and I HATE when I have to put a hot ass uniform and gun belt on......it must be a fetish to them or something.

    • @jeffreyp1855
      @jeffreyp1855 4 года назад +2

      Stephen 3033, I thought the same thing, brother. A lot of these guys obviously have unadressed mental health issues, a uniform fetish wouldn't surprise me. A uniform will get people's attention. Stay safe out there, Stephen! 🤘🏻

      Absolutely. I hated being incased in polyester, vest and heavy ass gun belt with all my accessories and pistol. Add together suicide strap across my chest and our issue Smokey Bear hat. Yes I looked sharp, but I suffered throughout my 12 shift. 17 years.

      Problem with these guys are they never wore the uniform so the don’t understand what goes with it. The late shifts or the balls to four watch. They only see the glim and glam of the movies not the real dirt. They want to live the movie life were we have lived the real life and know how unglamorous it is. Don’t get me wrong, I served with pride and would again if called upon. But it isn’t like it is in the movies. Lol

      I understand some of their fascination..Some couldn't serve, some didn't serve,for whatever reason. I never did, it's a decision I made then, and it haunts me sometimes, but not to the point that I would try to pass myself off as a veteran. Mental illness explains most of them. Others are just assholes stealing my appreciation and gratitude. These guys see the praise and attention the public gives to those who have served our country, and they want some of that too. I couldn't imagine myself in anything remotely military with the exception of the tan and black cargo pants I can get at the surplus store, there just way too much utility in those. Thank you again to all of you who have and continue to serve the people of the United States, both active and former military and as peace officers and fire and EMS.
