@@michaeljohnsonbaugh7962 Telling the cops wouldn't do anything. The current law (Stolen Valor Act of 2013) makes it illegal to claim certain medals or decorations in order to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit. The older Stolen Valor Act of 2005 made it a federal misdemeanor to wear any unearned medal, until it was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2012 as unconstitutional (breach of Freedom of Speech). But simply wearing a uniform and claiming to have served isn't illegal unless you're doing it for personal gain. In any event, it's a federal rap. Nobody's going to send FBI Special Agents or U.S. Marshals to arrest people for stolen valor. Shipley outs them. It causes them embarrassment in front of their neighbors and families. Technically, it is harassment. Not that they don't deserve it. They totally do. I enjoy watching him confront someone like that Marine Sargent/False Admiral. It's even better when he can show them how they f'd up and finally break down and admit it. That guy calling the TV station later and fessing up was a redeeming moment for him, maybe. But he also did wear those medals for personal gain. He disgraced his uniform (his real one).
SirLyonhart the cops have investigative power that civilians don’t have. Shipley is viewed as a vigilante. He could partner with local law enforcement but he chooses to take matters into his own hands. Who dropped you on your head as a kid?

Real vets seldom talk about their experiences, except to fellow military friends. If you see someone in a military uniform, decked out in medals and ribbons, eager to talk about his deeds of daring do, treat that as a red flag.
My CPO dress blues and my standard navy last oxfords have been in my closet for 37 years. My ribbons and medals are in a box on my dresser, along with my dolphins and patrol pin. The elastic in the hat band of the convertable cap lost its elasticity 20 years ago. I never wear them, ever. Once you leave active duty (or the reserves if you stay in the same branch that you were in as an active duty member), then you really aren't authorized to wear the full uniform again, except for the transit home if it is within three months of the separation under honorable conditions. There are exceptions for four of the service branches (the Coast Guard is not one of them) for service members who served in time of war, who may wear the the uniform of their service branch carrying the insignia of the highest rank held. I think that means if you have an expedition or campaign ribbon, you may wear the uniform. I got the gedunk ribbon (National Defense) in boot camp, but I am pretty sure it doesn't quality, and the Cold War, where I spent my time and energy, was never actually a declared war, so I personally don't feel that I could properly wear the Navy uniform again. Under federal statute, nobody is authorized to wear any uniform that displays a rank higher than that held. Every lying POS poseur who claims to have been a SeAL or Special Forces, or "Delta Force" or whatever the current hero unit is (they all are, by the way), and wears rank and insignia that they never earned are despicable and are in violation of the law. Unfortunately, the US judicial system has decided that these people have the right to lie to the rest of us under a very broad definition of protected speech under the 1st Amendment, provided they aren't trying to obtain some unearned cash benefit. Faking being a SeAL is bad, but faking having medals for valor is the bottom rung in that ladder to hell. The only medal that is actually protected by law is the MOH; if you didn't get one the hard way, you may not even own it, let alone claim its award and wearing it.
Spot on lad. I my brother will sometimes wear his old Para jumper (or “sweater” to Americans) to work if he’s got nothing else or to go the shop quick for some milk or something and I know a few other lads that will do the same, now and again wear their rege top or something for manual labour jobs or going the shop real quick but that’s it. You’ll never see them out in full kit and as you said never really talk about it unless either someone asks or to other armed forces. Even then my brother rarely talks about it. Not because of “you wasn’t their maann” but because it was just a job. Soldiers are surrounded by people who have done the same thing so passing P Company to a Para or going to war or something really isn’t that impressive to them. Once you pass you’re surrounded by other people who’ve passed making it the norm so (in their eyes) not worth bragging about.

About 4 years ago I met a kid in a bar that said he was in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was 48 and never served so every time I ran into him I would pay his tab. I even gave him cash to help him out, he was very convincing. Well I'd also run into and befriended a real Marine. One night at the bar we all 3 were sitting there and I introduced fake marine to real Marine. Real Marine asked his job id number and the faker said infantry. Real Marine knew right away he was a fake, and called him out. Real Marine was shaking for 20 minutes after I kicked fake Marine out of the bar.

We get the best way of living and get taken care of. So proud to be a Airmen. Served proudly in Afghanistan. Fly high!
haha. I really was in the Air Force, graduated USAF OTS Class 83-04. Got out in 92 as a captain. I did a lot of duty in some high ranking places, some big programs (I was an engineer) spent some time visiting the Pentagon etc. I could spin a yarn andnow at 63 . But why? I got my dd-214s I get my free meal at Olive garden on veteran's day, I got my VA loan eligibility letter. In the 80s it was a volunteer force. I had a BS in engineering, I applied and along with thousands went through Officer Training School. I have worked in aerospace and DOD programs since then. Am able to retire now so that is that. Bragging and pretending to be a Captain or General is just sick
Ballinger French Being in the USAF is hard enough to do in real life let alone fake it! Each AFSC ( Air Force Specialty Code) is some level of technical skill. Each branch of service has its purpose and its worth. No branch can survive on its own. Me? 24 years and 7 months of Security Forces and then a First Sgt. @Patti Funkhouse okay, I'm gonna call you out on this one. You claim to be Air Force yet you can spell 'reconnaisance'? Notice that I can't spell it. You are so busted.
@FocusFanatic WRONG. You do NOT need a flying license to be in the air farce. What a dumbazz

I am not defending these stolen valor scum, but everyone has individual civil liberties, and the Police are the only ones with the type of authority to take it away. Thats probably part of what the cops want to tell him. Just a slap on the wrist
@@michaeljohnsonbaugh7962 They're not breaking any local laws. The stolen valor act is a federal statute. And the current one has fewer teeth than the original.

The one Navy SEAL I know 35 years ago in the Navy. Told me, "A Real SEAL will not brag or talk about what goes on.
