    Hi Ryan, I really enjoyed this video. Most coaches and teachers hit the kicker from the ad side of the court and I liked how you demonstrated it from both sides. I’ve been working on my kicker for 3 or 4 months now and I’m just really starting to feel comfortable with it. It seems easier to get the ball to kick on the ad side ( I’m right handed) ; so, I really liked you showing us how to do it from the deuce side as well. Keep up the great videos Ryan. I have to say, i watched a lot of videos about tennis but skip the kick serve cuz it seems to difficult for a beginner, so i focused on flat and slice. Today i said to my coach, i have to develop a reliable second serve et he tried to learn mee the kick serve (i was a little bit surprised) so here am i to watch videos about kick serve. my coach gave me the same advices as you. thanks for the video i'm gonna try to develop a reliable kick serve (in belgium we mainly play on clay so i guess it's even more a good weapon to have)...

    In light of the low percentage of that serve, would you recommend using it only in a green light point situation? And instead to revert to the SLICK serve when you can’t afford to double-fault?
    Keep the vids coming! I would love to see one on how to defend the short angled BH slice/topspin FH. Especially when hit low.

    • @motaku7525
      @motaku7525 2 года назад

      Hi Frederick. I think you misunderstood, perhaps partly because Ryan was humble enough to miss some. If you practice it enough to really get it, the topspin will bring it down safely into the court, and you should get a very high percentage of them in. Basically, for example, since many players' backhands are weaker than their forehands, you are just using a kick serve to their backhand side as a safe but challenging second serve. The topspin brings it down, and the high bounce will win you many points against players inexperienced at returning such a serve. Part of the problem here I think is that Ryan is often going for the line; i.e., he is virtually going for an ace on the second serve. There is no reason for this in most situations. Just aim deep to the backhand, and if you 'got it' (which I haven't, ha ha), you can get over 90% of your second serves in with pace and spin.

      Absolutely. That’s a topic someone else asked for. I’ll def be making that video very soon. Thanks for the idea.

      I'm not a pro but just an amateur player. The way I change my grip is with my none dominant hand. Btw I'm a righty so I use my left hand to turn the racket to the right grip. I hope it helps.

    Good advice about also keeping the toss forward into the court. 0:34 wouldn't out wide on the ad side be to the forehand of a lefty? Can you consider doing a video about what to do differently when playing against a lefty?

    Like video. I usually hit a power slice or topspin for second serve but I'm working to get effective kick. You have to get it down effectively or it will sit up like a hanging curveball in baseball and the returner just crush it. As far as the kick to the deuce I like to hit it at returners body and have it jump to his BH. Seems like I can get more power and kick and if slice out wide and flat to T is working it gives him something else to worry about.

    Great lesson...mistakes and all! Very much appreciated that you shared your process. Does it help to involve the legs in this as well?

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  4 года назад

      Yes legs are important. My knees hurt from 37 years of tennis so it’s hard for me to involve my legs as much as I’d like. But try your best and see how it works for you. Thanks Ed!!

    a couple mistakes i noticed:
    00:39 - to kick out to a “righty,” not a “lefty”
    2:55 (ish) - I think we actually do want the ball to curve somewhat like a slice serve but then kick out wide. If we had it curve right and then bounce right, it’d just be a slice serve going the other way.

    Hi Ryan, I'm playing doubles 1 and yesterday I had a tennis match for my school. My kick serves weren't going in, so I dinked them to the opponent and my doubles partner was getting destroyed on the net. I should be doing my english homework rn but I really wanna work on this kick serve. Great video btw and really good job explaining the racquet path like a rainbow. Great work man!

    Great tip about placing the toss slightly ahead of the body. However, regarding the grip, I think that Becker had a pretty good kick serve and yet he seemed to move his grip slightly to the forehand so the racket face was more open.

      Howdy. Everyone is different, including the pros, so it's not surprising you'll see variation. But I think Ryan makes a great and simple point, that other things equal, if you shade your Continental grip even more toward the Eastern bh grip, that will change the angle of the racquet face so as to 'shave' the ball even more, thus kick. We hope :)

    I have been working on this kick serve for ten years now. I still have trouble keeping my chest facing the fence and swinging in line with the baseline. When I do get it right it is almost always a non returnable serve.
    Thank you
