Any villain or hero ?
What I love about both versions of Peters fighting Goblin is that Goblin never seems to learn to not make Spider-Man angry. I mean, this is a superhero who tries not to hospitalise his enemies. It's actually kind of terrifying when Spider-Man doesn't hold back from using his full strength.
Correct in fact. When Octavius had his body. He punched Scorpion's jaw right off. Truly shows how much Peter holds back
On the contrary Green Goblin's purpose is to corrupt SpiderMan and bring him down to his level. He wanted MCU SpiderMan to be a killer to make him "strong" and get rid of his morality that he considers as "weakness". He is SpiderMan's joker
He's ridiculously strong. I think he knocked out the Hulk once.
With Tobey, Goblin wanted him to join him as his brother in arms, but with his offer being repeatedly denied he decided to kill Tobey instead. With Tom, he saw a kid who wanted everything but is being forced to choose, and after learning he died in his original world he didn't fear death anymore thinking it was inevitable and instead wanted to drive Tom to kill him to corrupt and ruin his life with getting the other villains to betray Tom and killing May being the seed that plants the anger and rage in him. Which was why Goblin smiled wickedly and said "atta boy" when Tom said he wanted to kill Goblin himself, cause he knew he was winning and would get what he wanted.
Cause he wanted to trigger tom holland spiderman to actually murder him.. if tom kills norman... the goblin wins
SInce he was able to make him abandon his morals.. thats why tobey prevented it from happening... he knew that once tom got a feel of that first kill... he will go down a dark path...

The lack of music really adds to this scene to me
Absolute masterpiece of a fight scene. Masterful editing, sound design, and choreography.
Don’t forget the set design as well. They perfectly replicated the look of the actual abandoned hospital on Roosevelt Island. The broken brick walls and wooden floorboards, the dirt floor, the overgrown vines, dead leaves, and tree branches strewn about. All of it made for one of my favorite settings for a final battle in any of the Spiderman films. Did you know there was actually unused footage from this set which shows more of it. Someone compiled the footage here:
ruclips.net/video/UYilcQxb4RM/видео.html
@@ZM256. oh definitely! It’s the perfect set piece for this fight. One of the many reasons why this fight is legendary
@@jimbeam2299 Legendary is certainly a great way to describe this fight. I hope you enjoyed watching that set footage too. The setting really added such a bleak and dreary atmosphere to the fight.
You also mentioned the sound design and I have to agree with that as well. The sounds of the bricks clinking (0:09 | 0:19 | 0:22 | 2:10), the dust settling or at least I think that’s what it is (1:13), the wooden floorboard when Peter lands on it (2:26), and most of all the sound of the webs being broken by the Goblin at (0:56) which shows that the tensile strength of his webs were as strong as steel. I love that little detail.
@@jimbeam2299 Also, I know the lack of a soundtrack itself is another factor of this fight being so good. All that you hear is the impacts of the hits and the screams of pain Peter lets outs from them. Tobey really knows how to scream.
While I do like that it is silent for most of the fight I did find a video that added in a music track from another movie and I think it fits just as well for it: ruclips.net/video/uOZGZ9AR0Q8/видео.html
It makes the fight feel more like it is going to be hopeless for Peter at this point. The name of the song is "Final Fist 2" by Shigeru Umebayashi for the movie Fearless (2006)
Happy 20th anniversary for spider man
I swear I feel like anyone who says the original Spider-Man trilogy is corny and overrated has never seen the movies. Just the memes of Spider-Man 3 and Tobey making facial expressions. These movies have intense moments of both action and emotion. This scene in particular captures an example of the height of both. This fight scene is intensely brutal and would’ve been even more had the studio not prevented Raimi from making it an R rating; but it’s also filled with true emotion. “I have a father. His name was Ben Parker.” These movies have themes and scenes that will stick with you for life. Never overrated. Legendary films.

Ultimately that is the moment I believe that Peter fully realizes what it means to be Spider-Man, to always get back up and fight for those he loves, even if he can’t even be with Mary Jane in order to protect her.

You know what's sad? For the whole trilogy, Harry believed his father didn't care about him, that his father loved Peter more than his own son. Harry never found out Norman's love for him was so strong that this was the only aspect of his personality that Green Goblin couldn't change.
Norman doesn't care about harry him saying don't tell harry was one last manipulation of green goblin to spiderman
Harry never thought that his father loved Peter more than him.
@@lkcdarzadix6216 Normal was the one who said “Don’t tell harry”
@@lkcdarzadix6216 i guess it could be interpreted in different ways
That's like Lionel Luther loved Clark more than his own son Lex.
Imagine how shocking this had to have been for Peter. His worst enemy was somebody that was extremely close to him.
That shit would haunt you.
And it is haunting Peter. Overall pain and misery are reasons why his powers stop working in second movie.
What's even worse? This man that him being close to was the father of the boy he was ALSO close to, and having to lie to him on the fact that HE killed his father.
I like it, I see it as a parallel to the usual: hero shocking the villain with their unmasked identity. Instead, they flipped it on it's head with this movie.
that's what his story it's all about, Marvel wrote him to lost everything and he got nothing, not even a single happy shit in return.
@ That would be a good explanation if the second movie bothered to provide one for his powers failing.
As dated as the action maybe the dialogue and editing still carries this scene so we’ll, the scream Peter cries out when he’s sent flying is so genuine and raw, and the “oh?” Norman subtly utters right before he’s impaled is both comedically well timed but also intense and somewhat emotional as we see this overall light hearted and campy super hero film turn real and dark. I’ve always liked films with jovial or unrealistically idealized tones and themes that will unflinchingly juxtapose the tone over to a surreal violent or dark scene. And the way Norman says “Peter” after getting impaled, it feels like we’re getting a set up for some prophetic over the top comic book villain death convention; then it shatters this expectation with “don’t tell harry”, as he abruptly dies, it’s such a real world thing to say, no repentance or admittance of fault, no Witty or clever remark, no oaths to get revenge in hell or the next life, just, don’t tell my son what I did. That will always hit harder since it doesn’t show us the death of an evil Machiavelli, but rather the death of a flawed man who got in over his head.
While I agree with most of what you said, I do disagree about the action being "dated", but to each their own.
@@indio4-215 I think there’s some merits, however I do martial arts and animation and have studies in the choreography and cinematography styles that make fight scenes good, some of the strikes are done with cut aways and close up shots, probably because things like expert level kicks are hard for non martial artists actors to learn in a timely manner. How ever there are some good high lights, when spider man jumps down and grabs goblin by the neck and shoved him against the wall, the spread out stance and staccato tri segmented pacing of the action (jump down, half second, grab, half second, shove) is satisfying, it’s also well framed from a distance with 3 quarters eagle perspective. And the spin web shoot to pull down the wall with his hands in a cross block position is stylistically striking. I just wish more of the hand to hand had a little more technical finesse and were done in wide angle shots that show the whole process of cause and effect via less close up shots of attacks with transitions to a different perspective showing the reaction, this style creates a disconnect to a viewers Emerson to the fight scene. For a good reference to spectacular fight scenes I suggest you watch the raid, it’s cinematic and pencak Silat (Indonesian martial arts) is superb, it’s also a great film aside from its five star action
Action dated? This choreography is better than what was in No Way Home lol
Body shot, left hook, knee, cross, etc multiple techniques are shown in this fight. Hell, goblin doubles up on his left hand.
the action definitely isnt dated , or maybe just cause most marvel movies today look so ridiculously cgi it makes this film hold up more than it should lol
It's also worth noting that both Peter and Norman have had their powers for a short amount of time. They aren't experienced combatants. The only reason they are able to fight the way they do is genetic enhancements to there physiology. Both of them rely on their senses and strength to carry them I'm a fight. In the comics they have enough encounters where they are both experienced veterans when they fight
1:26 the way he says "PISSED ME OFF" is so funny
