The action here is iconic, we all know this, but nobody talks about how heartbreaking this opening is. Peter and May can't do a damn thing to find financial stability, and May is so poor that she looks at a free toaster as a gift from the gods. You can feel her pain as she's denied even something as simple as that, which we take for granted each day as a general household appliance. It's such a great moment, building up their humanity as characters and their relatability. You feel for them, and want them to finally get what they deserve.
and we can add to the fact that she respect herself not being wealthy and being honest towards herself. When the bank guy wants to take the dollar she stops him from doing it acknowledging the fact that its not right to do so
It’s these bits of relatability that I feel are lacking in the new Spidey films. They’re good in their in own merit but these movies really feel like they have a breath and a beating heart when you watch them over and over again.
yup, because OG doc oc & Goblin have become our memories. so if they recast & redesign these 2 villains, fans will carnage the movie especially if the recast & design is not as good as OG
i worked in a bank, sometimes they do. but today banks don't have much bank notes in their vault unlike 90's to earlier years. because of online payment has taking over the daily transactions. they do stashed golds but only in the main/HQ bank, not in the branch office. robbing a bank is so 1990's-1800's. you should be realize that no one rob bank anymore today right? because robbers know that the bank notes in the vault isnt worth the the score. not to mention that bank notes are tagged and bank already insurance the cash and everything inside the vault so that if they lost the insurance would cover that up. it's not worth robbing the bank manually anymore. but digitally, it's easier than taking a candy from a baby. work as an IT maintenance in the bank or just persuade the IT guys because they usually are underpaid, all you need is an access from the right staff, tell him that it just a routine maintenance, the staff wont sus you, and you move all of the cash into the offshore bank while your plane is waiting to sent you offshore/or just use commercial plane. they usually did it at night. some did it succesfully, some got caught. i'm writing my superhero novel btw.
@GoTi4No one of my counterpart bank IT guy did this, the central bank had to suspended all the transactions related to the said bank for a day and it's catasthrophic for all the national banking system. the bank didn't lose the money, but they almost lost it, the IT guy was just tested the water and it succeed but he got caught immediately before he can cash out the money. to cover his track he doubled every outgoing transactions including a transaction to my bank. of course his bank couldnt bear the defisit if the central bank do a clearing. you dont need an ocean twelve crew to do that, all you need is an underpaid IT guy.
@@begobolehsjwjangan2359 ya thats a load of bs, according to fbi statistics there were still some 2,500 bank robberies attempted/committed in 2019. It may not be as often as in 1950 but it’s not nearly to the point of saying it “no one robs banks anymore.” Clearly people still do.
3:24 is like my favorite part of the whole movie, and its a great movie. The way Molina says "butterfingers" with a little sassy headshake is so so good.
I love how aunt may is desperately in need of money and she doesn't even look at a gold coin and even reprimand the bank tell by hitting a coin out of his hand. Aunt may is such a pure soul😭 also that lady screaming when doc oc is climbing the wall I've heard sooooo many times lol
As much as I love the MCU, the visual clarity of Raimi’s action scenes still sets the bar. White coin bags, yellow taxi cab doors, beige Aunt May, Red Spidey, brickwork background. He really cuts down the visual background noise and turns up the main elements, so you always understand what’s going on and none of the clever stunts or camerawork get lost in the noise. Yet it still looks grounded and realistic. Can’t wait to see what Raimi brings to DS2,
Yeah, it has a very "classic golden age comic-book" feel to it. Especially compared to superhero movies these days. Even the cinematography has several shots that could look like an image in a comic book panel but live action.
That’s kind of comes with it being New York, so that might really extend back to Stan Lee’s and the original Marvel staff’s understanding of the New York environment.
Now that you said this, I feel like he may ruin Dr. Strange for me... possibly. I loved the first one for not only Benedict Cumberbatch and dramatic pacing (far better than other Marvel movies) but also the visual effects. If he makes it more clear what's going on, that may ruin the visual effects. I hope not though because I still hold those three Spiderman movies in high regard (yes, even Bully Maguire).
Still one of the greatest films of all time, I have to mention how well paced this film is. The amount of action we get, the choreography, and the time we get of Peter's personal life, from small stuff like him attending Mary Jane's play and seeing Aunt May when she is moving, I love how he was able to fit everything in the film and it didn't feel rushed. I'm excited to see Sam Raimi's work in Dr. Strange 2, I'm extremely hyped for it, and I'm really excited to see his focus on various moments and how well he paces the movie between action filled and personal moments.
If you look at the suit during fights, it's not that far off the Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Of course the latter still looks better, but you can clearly tell it's CGI, which is weird 10+ years later. Same with Doc Oc's arms - I'd argue they look better in Spider-Man 2 than No Way Home trailer, because they used actual arms more often. A lot of people said that the new Spider-Man suit would look way better, if they wouldn't just slap the CGI all over it - you can see in "behind the scenes" that Holland has an actual suit on him, yet they still choose CGI.
The original trilogy suite of Spiderman looks much more realistic as for the new suite of the Spiderman movies look like its as if he is wearing his merch
In what world? The CGI has aged very poorly and sticks out like a sore thumb. Totally distracting by today's standards. If you can't tell that bank vault door was totally fake as soon as it was shown for example then you got some rose colored glasses on. Not saying the movie as a whole isn't still a good movie, but it certainly has not aged as good as it could have.
@Koichi Brando in the film Peter’s powers start to go dormant and not work (not shooting webs in this scene here for example) due to his mental conflicks on whether to be Spider-Man or not. Since he’s “losing” his powers, he can get hurt easier, can’t dodged as well, and can’t move as fast, all shown here.
0:59 Really emphasizes the whole "With Great Power comes with Great Responsibility" theme since Peter can easily make a fortune off of his powers but chooses not to. However, the scene immediately transitions to Otto using his powers irresponsibly...
I really like this Stan Lee appearance because he got to be a hero and saved somebody too. Even if it is one of the smallest and quickest of his cameos
I don't have nothing against Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland's movies. But this is the masterpiece that deserves all the credit. Sam Raimi was something else.
@@tristanmireles8994 yes but as you can very clearly see to yes version has a lot more physical strength in this version and is also the less realistic like bro where in the fuck do the webs come from.
I didn't like her character in that 90s show. Strongly hates the masked hero, but strongly loves her nephew? That's character development forgotten to be looked at. Even when he saved her life, still didn't change her thoughts on him.
The villain is really good in this film and makes it way more memorable. Not only on an emotional level but also as a pretty unique "monster". Also, films these days rely on using CGI to create the scene. These films used it to supplement the scenes, not dictate them.
Yes, that's why it is called the greatest superhero movie of all time. The CGI were revolutionary back then and it holds up and they also used a lot of props instead of full CGI.

4:46 I still love that "Shame on you!" from Aunt May. Little old lady has been used as a hostage & beanbag by a guy she saw rip out a vault door, definitely terrified, probably traumatized, but using Spiderman's concern for her well-being for a dirty trick? Not on her watch!
Either the writers will stay true to his character and Alfred Molina will do a stunning performance, or they’ll botch his character. It’ll most likely be the former, but it honestly seems too good to be true.
This how older superhero movies used to be, and I love it! Nothing too complexed to understand, no need to watch prequels or anything like that. Just pure action! I have this feeling we will get a major throwback again in the upcoming No Way Home movie with Alfred reviving his iconic role as Doctor Octopus!
@@travisbickle4360 Prety much. I don't get what these people are talking about, the MCU action set pieces are for the most part quite simple to follow. The only complex ones to follow are assemble movies, and those have an excuse of a lot happening in the screen at the same time.

The scenes with May really show how much of a good influence she has been on Peter. When Doc Ock threw money on the ground and in spite of her money problems she didn’t take a penny for herself. And when Doc Ock was about to kill Spider-Man whom is a complete stranger to her, without hesitation or the thought of what might happen to her she saved his life. She also doesn’t seem to afraid of heights. He was referring to The Green Goblin who was dressed as an old lady in the burning building to lure in Peter. Also Norman Osborne says “work was murder” where he was talking about how he was trying to kill Spiderman
Aren't they all the same storyline? Just each movie picks up after the last one. Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland's Spider-men would be different storylines.
Overall, this is probably the best Spiderman scene of all 8 movies. Best Aunt May, best villain, Spiderman makes quips, awesome cooperation between May and Peter, and excellent choreography. I'm not saying it's best at everything; obviously Electro fight had much better visual effects and NWH final battle was the most exciting, but this fight reflects a Spiderman comic better than any other fight in all the movies.
I love Tobey Macguire's screechy yelps of pain throughout the fight scenes. Everything hits so much harder in this Trilogy. I love this action way more than the new ones.
The new movies WOULD be perfect if they would add that element to the fighting. The Netflix shows have the brutal violence, and they're so much better for it. You legitimately fear Kingpin when you see him kill a guy with a car door.
When she looked up at the angel and said thank you.. And smacked that guy's hand that was going to take the gold piece.. Shame on you decent person to the core
5:08 just realised that later in the film he learned from his mistake and kept an eye on his back when MJ sneaked up on him with a blunt object, pretty cool.
You just can't top the fight scenes of Raimi's spiderman films. They are very well choreographed, have amazing CGI and has that trademark 'Sam Raimi' humour.
i mean the film is extremely old, so the cgi isnt that good, i mean it holds up, but compared to the latest spiderman films and other mcu films, this films cgi sucks plus theres no physics in the raimi trilogy, its pretty unrealistic that way
@@anirudhgupta2570 The CGI for the pizza delivery part is outdated by today's standard, yes, but the overall CGI is still amazing. You're simply wrong to underestime it by comparing it with modern days Marvel films🤣
This scene will alway be iconic for me. A simple time where a villain just try to rob a bank. How simple is that? Not a villain who want to destroy the world or already have but in secret, or toppled the government or space or multiverse....just a guy robbing a bank to create a machine.
It's Raimi's consistently moving and framing camera that helps the CGI out so much here. Raimi must've storyboarded the hell out of this to know exactly where the scene would use motion blur, depth of field and foreground objects to trick the eye into only seeing what he wants you to.
Nah that's seriously so true. If you look at the details, yes the CGI is very good but it's not as photorealistic as some of the more modern ones, but somehow it looks VERY good without looking outdated.
03:58 If there's one thing Tobey is great at in these films, it's showing how much Peter cares for Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He sounds genuinely terrified for her

Damn that’s deep, raimi is a genius
and we can add to the fact that she respect herself not being wealthy and being honest towards herself. When the bank guy wants to take the dollar she stops him from doing it acknowledging the fact that its not right to do so
It’s these bits of relatability that I feel are lacking in the new Spidey films. They’re good in their in own merit but these movies really feel like they have a breath and a beating heart when you watch them over and over again.

they do stashed golds but only in the main/HQ bank, not in the branch office.
robbing a bank is so 1990's-1800's.
you should be realize that no one rob bank anymore today right? because robbers know that the bank notes in the vault isnt worth the the score.
not to mention that bank notes are tagged and bank already insurance the cash and everything inside the vault so that if they lost the insurance would cover that up.
it's not worth robbing the bank manually anymore.
but digitally, it's easier than taking a candy from a baby.
work as an IT maintenance in the bank or just persuade the IT guys because they usually are underpaid, all you need is an access from the right staff, tell him that it just a routine maintenance, the staff wont sus you, and you move all of the cash into the offshore bank while your plane is waiting to sent you offshore/or just use commercial plane.

Can’t wait to see what Raimi brings to DS2,
exactlyyyyyy !!!
they are stunning indeed !
it has different charm about it !!!
And the sound design is always on point. So awesome.

The movies aged amazingly and the cgi still holds up. Especially in 2 and 3.
Ok 90s dude
In what world? The CGI has aged very poorly and sticks out like a sore thumb. Totally distracting by today's standards. the best of Sam Raimi's Spiderman, the 1st is phenomenal, but I prefer this storyline.
Aren't they all the same storyline? Just each movie picks up after the last one. Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland's Spider-men would be different storylines.
@@michaelmccarthy579 Yes, indeed but it's just personal preference, no emo Peter and the train scene are enough for me.

I like how Doc's enthusiasm. He doesn't shy away from a fight, and he's ready to throw it down even with someone as strong as Peter.

Well, after all, all they have is each other. I mean, he lost his parents and they both lost Uncle Ben.
also the music just makes it so much better
He's still very slow, so far andrew is the only one that is able to go on top of the building fast
@@chief5604 This Spider-Man was more than fast enough to save Gwen, so there’s that lol
The final battle in Spider-Man 3 has the best visual effects
Nah, NWH final battle was mid.
Hell yeah.
straight up!
4:07 Easy to miss but Spider-Man is fighting very realistically here. He throws headbutts and knees. It's not just the clean techniques.
Definitely shows he's getting desperate and holding less back in order to get to Aunt May faster.
@@SeaFR well he’s still holding back a lot lol. He could easily knock doc ock’s face off with a single punch if he gets serious.
@@jamelgallagher6602 Yeah, I know. He was able to punch someone's jaw clean off in the comics, but what I'm talking about is his fighting style.
@@SeaFR In the comics when Doc Ock takes control over Peters body he broke Scorpion's jaw with a single punch.Doc realised how much Peter holds back

You just can't top the fight scenes of Raimi's spiderman films. They are very well choreographed, have amazing CGI and has that trademark 'Sam Raimi' humour.
Agreed 100 %
i mean the film is extremely old, so the cgi isnt that good, i mean it holds up, but compared to the latest spiderman films and other mcu films, this films cgi sucks plus theres no physics in the raimi trilogy, its pretty unrealistic that way
@@anirudhgupta2570 The CGI for the pizza delivery part is outdated by today's standard, yes, but the overall CGI is still amazing. You're simply wrong to underestime it by comparing it with modern days Marvel films🤣
The only thing I don't like is the screaming women. I swear they come close to blowing out the mike. FFS ladies, stfu.
@@anirudhgupta2570 "Extremely old". That's a bit of the stretch to call a early 2000's movie that old.
This scene will alway be iconic for me. A simple time where a villain just try to rob a bank. How simple is that? Not a villain who want to destroy the world or already have but in secret, or toppled the government or space or multiverse....just a guy robbing a bank to create a machine.
Yeah. Lower stacks and more grounded level villains that are still threatening.
It's Raimi's consistently moving and framing camera that helps the CGI out so much here. Raimi must've storyboarded the hell out of this to know exactly where the scene would use motion blur, depth of field and foreground objects to trick the eye into only seeing what he wants you to.
Very underrated comment. I wondered why I don't feel the same while watching Tobey fight in no way home.
Thanks for sharing this knowledge
Nah that's seriously so true. If you look at the details, yes the CGI is very good but it's not as photorealistic as some of the more modern ones, but somehow it looks VERY good without looking outdated.

If there's one thing Tobey is great at in these films, it's showing how much Peter cares for Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He sounds genuinely terrified for her
Absolutely! His plea for her to hang on a little longer was so heart wrenching! She’s all the family he has left. This was actually one of his best fights, he was using straight hands! 4:00
The trench coat he wears is so legendary.
