More BROADMOOR ESCAPE SIRENS, both with faults! {{Beware: LOUD VIDEO!}}

- Both sirens in this video have faults - one shutter is jammed open on the first siren, whilst the other siren has one that's jammed shut (or the solenoid isn't working to open it).

• SIRENS - Finding the 1...
(this video is SIREN E and SIREN M)
/\/\/
ABOUT THE SIRENS:
Here are two sirens from a system containing 13. They are located in the neighbouring towns surrounding a secure hospital in the UK.
Me and Chay went out to find them all, which I may upload soon. It was a very interesting bank holiday Monday lol! Chay was a bit apprehensive while waiting for the first siren to sound, but loved it afterwards :)
He liked it enough to stay with me whilst tracked them all down.
It was a good day as we did other things like play football in the parks, McDonalds and see the sirens of course!
It was a mixed bag - some viewable from the street, some hidden so much that you'd never know they were there (unless it went off!), some in council depots, compounds, parks and believe it or not - in the middle of housing estates metres from houses! (would scare the living daylights out of residents if they went off at 3am!)
Some are in secure places with no access at all.
The sirens are tested at 10am each Monday.
I have recorded 6 of them in action (6x Monday@10am!) - in this video there are two of them (probably the best ones, as both shutters were working perfectly).
BY THE WAY - In reality all 13 sirens are tested together, but so that you can see each stage (start-up, running, running-down) of each siren, I have offset the sirens by two minutes (see the times in the bottom left and right in the video).
HOW THEY WORK:
The Klaxon CS8 siren.
A 415volt 3 phase motor spins two rotors on either side. One rotor is for the high tone and the other for the low tone (the one with most holes is the HIGH tone).
During the escape siren, the airflow is cut alternately to each rotor by a shutter on each end producing the distinctive high-low tones. I believe these are known as CODED SHUTTERS - hence the model name Klaxon "CS"8.
Both shutters are opened together for the all clear tone. You can just make out the high and low frequencies being produced together if you listen.
ENDING - Not sure what happened at the end of this video, but the "running down" ended about 10 seconds later.
MORE SIREN VIDEOS TO COME SOON...!
Siren B is my favorite looking siren, but Siren A is the most beautiful sounding. But I like the interesting tone of Siren B, as having a single shutter working is quite interesting.
+CrazyPilot757 Yes, when the shutters fail it does make an interesting sound. Did you see my most recent one? ruclips.net/video/IaCyouD__qQ/видео.html&lc . See 7:40 - the bagshot siren you can hear the sound from the side of the siren where the shutter is not working. Sounds different depending what side you are on.
mrmattandmrchay Thanks for the link and time! I've been watching all the siren hunt videos from A-M, it's amazing what these sirens sound like.
Yeah i just remember that siren and by the way why its keep shuttering?
In this video, siren A is siren E, and siren B is siren M
@@mrmattandmrchay my mom said ro turn this off and I did but I still wach it when she not here... CuZ SHe SaiD ThE SoUND WaS AnnOYING!!!!!!
+Amelia Violet Because I got a great view of this siren the first time (it was really close to the camera) I've not been back there as I filmed it well the first time. So I'm not quite sure. When I've filmed a few remaining sirens I might return to this one and I'll let you know :)
Would be interested to see if the shutters are both working again or not (the low tone shutter does not open - it's stuck).
One thing I wish I did film is, there was this little dog in the field barking and going mad at the siren! But by the time I got my camera in the right place the dog was pulled away by it's owner. Would have been good to include if I filmed that.
+mrmattandmrchay lol u should of asked the owner to let the dog do it coz every tim e my husky dog hears the sirens going off she'll get pritty mad and bark at them + i think the dampers are frepered last i went to them i saw work men up at them + its even more worse coz i think they managed to get siren G up &sining again notsure
These Things Have Their Solenoid Connected Why Are They Faulty?
0:58 that run up makes me cry
The run up and the run down, always make me wanna pee myself. Our 2 reactions, could be due to the way the frequencies they've used resonate with our bodies! I live within hearing distance of these sirens, and if I hear them go off at night, I get a sharp, cold pain in my stomach, that makes me wanna be sick! (I'm a higher functioning autistic, and the same sound can make me feel very different, depending on temperature, general weather conditions and whether it's day time or nighttime!)
Why
I'm going to cry
imagine how hot those motors got sounding for 20 minutes straight
Sadly not anymore. All are gone except possibly siren G
@@bigshipssiren G is still there according to uk siren maps the rest however including F is gone
@@levigaming-1 we don’t actually know wether Siren G remains since it’s extremely hard to see.
I have my doubts if I’m being totally honest.
i love the shutter jammed shut it sounds like the high is escape and low is all clear
Siren has an attack,hi-lo and all clear tones.
Old Sirens in NZ are now condemned to fire station work where they get proper use & maintenance. My nearest one at plimmerton is tested every saturday and 12:00 PM - but only one moment. Our sirens continuously run-up and run-down until switched off. Plimmerton's test is only one pulse.
Thanks for posting this. I thought there weren't and more high-low sirens, except for thunderbolt sirens.
+John Wagner thunderbolts have small tiny dampers & arent energetic enough to do the hi lo tone like these klxon sirens these klaxons are mechanical & thunderbolts are non mechanical thunderbolts have a spesh organ wat makes air but the mechanical klaxon has to suck air in via the 2 damper ends & chop n force it out
John Wagner no the thunderbolt 1003 DOES have a chopper
John Wagner you have the 3t22 you have a lot of different sirens that do hi lo
They do have choppers they are electro machines not speakers
@@kennedibodally8486 thunderbolts have choppers
This is like the thunderbolt 1003 if one solenoid fails it creates a very unique hi low sound, except depending on wiring you can configure thunderbolt 1003 to do pulse sound, also you can really mess with the solenoids when winding down to create a funny sounding siren!
Thunderbolt 1003 = Sailor Jupiter
What about the FS 3T22?😊
I like to watch these back now and then because they are filthy good.
Its been a while Matt. I feel nostalgic when I watch these videos again
I often watch my old videos again as well :)
One is jammed shut and one is jammed open
Soooooo siren A have shutter stuck open and siren B have shutter stuck close?
Its not that the solenoids are jammed open (or closed, for that matter), its that the springs in the solenoid boxes have been worked to quite some extent, so they have snapped.
+Chem_Boffin_6589 u do know they are still fed power
yes, but since the springs are not there, the solenoid will just move up and down and the shutters won't move. If the shutters are jammed, then there would be an overvolt on the solenoid fuse which would then burn out.
I have heard they are testing the new broadmoor siren on the 25th November and have now completely stopped testing any remaining sirens on the system.
Really? Well that explains why I have stopped getting my regular " Monday morning at 10 am tummy pain" then!
I wonder if I could buy one of the CS8s that have been removed. I'd need an electrician to wire me a 41V 3 phase circuit in, but I'd never have to worry about oversleeping again. Neither will my neighbours... when it wakes me up at 4am for work.
@afxinfinitee LOL
Siren m is now replaced but find it on google for sale of the klaxon cs8
2:56 pulse tone!
+TheBabyVoice / golden Freddy its siren M so dont clasify it as siren B
There’s no reference to which siren it is. If you mean on the video, Matt labels them as such just to distinguish the two clips from each other.
The pulse sound is due to one shutter being jammed stuck and the other working normally.
@@al66class59 it sounds like pulse while its trying to do hi lo cuz one shutter solenoid is stuck
It’s hi lo
@@Howardkc a shutter is stuck so no. also maybe not listen to comments that are older than you?
I’m gonna miss this wonderful sirens
Are these klaxons cs8's getting replaced
The definitely won't get replaced, if they go there will be no more sirens.
Apparently Twitter will be there replacement what a joke keep the sirens they are history and everyone loves them
Mr.Someone \Tom/ they actually are there getting replaced with NOTHING!
There is a new siren at the hospital it’s location is unknown but it’s probably next to siren G (the old siren located atbroadmoor hospital)
Since siren b shutter does not work for the low it makes sound a mixing and those sirens sound like a thunderbolt 1003 doing hi lo but slower.
There's an air raid siren near the airport in my home town of Kidlington. It goes off at 0730, 1200 and 1800 every day. It used to freak my wife out when we first moved in together.
+Lee Thomas the sirens local to me often malfunction in cold wether & i hear them at 3 am usaly of 7am
I don't know if it was mentioned but where are these again?
Broadmoor mental hospital in the UK
+The Bigmindcreator AKA Elliot in & around broadmoor mental lunertick asylum
can somebody make a version with only siren B?
Imagine the sirens running and both shutters close 💀
You mean like this... ruclips.net/video/qlR-pfrcd3s/видео.htmlsi=kQRdXWVchj-BiP_e&t=82 (cables to both shutters have been cut). Actually, one of them is jammed open.
2:56 moment of my life
Back when I lived in the uk we had some of those sirens go off around my old junior school in Wokingham.
Siren B is my favorite siren because its sounding is just perfect
What should bring to pace clinic
@mrmattandmrchay , just looked in the description, "- in this video there are two of them (probably the best ones, as both shutters were working perfectly)." what the heck
hey can you give me a link to the siren map please I’m a young siren ethused please I hunt fir theaesw
Hi, I don't actually have the link. If anyone who does could email it to mattw.youtube@virginmedia.com, then I'll put up the link myself (normally youtube blocks anyone giving a website address, unless "I" add it).
Thank you for telling me I love your bids

The 1940 siren are call air raid siren and one of the sirens can do hilo like 3t22 but no outdoor sound like 3t22
@James Wheeler lol
0:14 the blue siren looks like a toy
No
Well, it matches the sky!
Fix them
Edit from 2 years ago: i didnt know this comment existed lol i was dumb back then
does this siren #SIREN-B still sing or is it not sining any moor
Hehe, moor.
broken solar panel hi broken:)
Wait and see
Wonder if they ever repaired these?
LightingDesk no, as the sirens crap out, Broadmoor removes them, as they believe the asylum is more secure and sirens would be unnecessary.
Only Siren G remains. It works flawlessly though!
Howling iss the how long is the test
The blue siren sounds like a single-tone due to the faulty shutter.
I like siren A more than siren B
Siren A = silent hill
the high damper on siren b is stuck
Thunderbolt1003 it was on both. Lol rawr xD boi
The low damper is the one stuck
Mr.Someone \Tom/ idc
Low is jammed shut
i pfet to have siren B (PULSE SIGNAL) when its broken it sounds like its cookooing
Wow. That writing tho.
I like siren b. I just wanna get it and turn it into a 3t22
Lol
Are you a little fairy!?
Yes
Oh my gosh, scary tone from air raids siren,HI LO, also hearing them at the same time if every air raid siren started at the both same time
Trying to wake my friend up with this c:
Wolfeh Bro Broadmoor siren alarm clock - nice idea!
LMAO
What are broadmoor sirens?
pancake1 They warn of an escaped patient from the UK's highest security psychiatric hospital.
yikes, them two sound nasty
Their Solenoid Is Connected Why Are They Prone To Faults? :(
@@DonaldDuck-hl2zs by the sound of it, sounds like moving parts are rusted making it hard for the solenoids to flip
Was the Hi-Lo their attack signal?
I recorded the one located in Crowthorne back in 2005 I think it was. They have obviously not been maintained! Shame.
Did you say ashame!?
I actually heard the low tone a bit when it was starting on siren M then it just craps on ye
That's Why Siren M Is My Favorite
How many decibels
139 At 1 Meter (Depending On Where You Stand)
What is the song you used for the intro?
Siren A or B?? I like A. Its something about that high pitch constantly blowing along with the low pitch pulsing.
That is a broken solenoid
Only 3 of these will be left soon, with the other 9 decomissioned, and the 3 that remain being replaced
Thanks for that info. I've done loads of research and even found an audio recording of a guy doing presentation in local Camberley council offices. Listened to all of it. Seems that 6 will remain - all local to hospital. But nothing decided 100% at the moment, but they need to do something and it's likely to happen. Very interesting! I would love to get hold of one of the decommissioned units, wonder if I would stand a chance of that coming true if I spoke to the right person... :/
Richard McLean if these were to be replaced a 3t22 or thunderbolt 1003 would be a good replacement as they both have dampers
+ylffen gnas thunderbolts have solenoids not dampers my US mate told me coz she lives near 1
+Richard McLean every singel 1 is going to be removed but sirens near the hospital arnt
Kennedi Bodally get ya facts right it works now
the things wat open/shut are not shutters there dampers & u ccan perches 1 of these buggers?
That blue cs8 is siren m
THE 508 CAN GO UP TO 135DBC AT 100 FEET.
+MIKE CHIESA still broadmoor want these agreseve 1's i can hear all of them when im at the locqtion od siren g
No, 508 is rated 128DB at 100ft.
MIKE CHIESA No thats the P-50
whats the intro music
Thats not a music
Are they near each other.
+Edaan Friedman Hi Edaan, If you see this at 3:19... ruclips.net/video/YtCVISWeemA/видео.html then you'll see the map. The sirens from this vid are "E" and "M". If you were to go from one to the other, I guess about 10-15 minutes by car.
Why Didn't Siren D Ever Work MrMatt?
If I were there, I'd offer to maintain them for free. I maintain my Federal Signal 2t22A tornado siren. (Very little to do.)
Will they fix these???
Yes A B and C they fix
Siren B looks like a carter that had shutters put on
Sounds like a 3t22 with a jammed shutter
They sound so funny with stuck dampers!
+Machine Man IKR LOL
+CAL'S ENGINEERING thats coz there sturggaling to keep there tone strong
Angel Monica the dampers that block the air flow are siezed, giving a bad tone
+cals ENGNEERING ik my mate who is a scientist told me they are trying to open the damper but are struiggeling
Angel Monica seized up. The solenoids will still keep getting power to them, but can't move the rods ;)
I love the siren m and e :)
Halfway between sounding like the emergency vehicle siren, whilst operating to the run-down like air-raid if you'd want to compare.
Sounds Like A 2T22A
0:15 The only mistake I've ever seen on a video of yours - the pointer in the top left hand corner!
yep!
bagshot: watching siren a
note pop up*
siren a are you brother
wooohooo i found my twin brother i need tell everyone

yep :)
NO
Now Klaxon CS8 Sirens (the ones in the video) are now used in home security systems, imagine that going off because of a thunderstorm
Perhaps a bit of an overkill!? Lol. How about a master blaster siren (google it)
Did you know the Broadmoor sirens aren't Klaxon CS8s, they are actually Secomak CS8s
These were installed during the 1960 - 80s and Secomak were making the sirens, Secomak stopped making them and Klaxon bought them and started making more until they stopped in 2004
Siren A does the same sound as the crowthone siren
Siren B new tone: Pulsed Steady
No, single-tone pulse!
2nd one pulsed signal!!!!!! :)
No it did not
At 3:18 it says: "Only one shutter is working! THE 'LOW' TONE SHUTTER IS *JAMMED SHUT!* " So technically kinda
Thay must to have New moters on them. 6.00 mins on one of them???
Mrmatt Siren M Is Very Intresting Because You Can Hear The Low Tone A Little When It Starts Up And That Is Why Siren M Is My Favorite
For me, it's the Bagshot Depot (well it WAS because it's not there anymore, in fact, only ONE is left)
Unfortunately Siren G Is No Longer Tested Well The Bagshot Siren Did Have A Slow Startup But That's How It Sounded So Beautiful
How Crazy would it be if there was No School one Monday and the Kids went to the Skate Park moments before the Test?
In this video, there's a lot more high than low!
If you were talking about pulse tone that means
Your not correct
I really want to see thiese sirens in action in person but im worried they will be out of service soon ☹️☹️☹️
+Adam Fletcher You haven't a great deal of time left. Where in the county or the world do you live? Ive been told that the Bracknell station one is working but you can never tell unless visiting them regularly.
mrmattandmrchay it's so sad that the sirens are going as they are a part of the history of droadmoore and should stay in operation for many years to come even if they do stop using them they should leave them where they are instead of scraping them or selling them
@@adamfletcher4262 If you want to visit Sirens, your only option is Siren G, it works flawlessly and has never failed on me! Go for it!
looks like a 2t22 without its horns
Also, siren’s hi is Barley working
ummm
lmao?
Wind down just sounded wired
Why do these sirens sound so sad?
I suppose back in the 50s it was the only way of making a loud noise - spinning a fan at high speed. I suppose there wasn't a choice of sounds.
.-. i see u everywhere
One sutter jammed siren m i like siren m
Siren B sound like CLM
I heard the sirens this morning
+burns gaming It's a mixed bag as to which ones are still working and which ones don't. I went to Crowthorne Station about a months ago and that didn't work, but I could hear one nearby (looking at the map, it's probably the one near cockadobby).
+burns gaming i bet ya did
+mrmattandmrchay cockadobby WTF!
+DANIELTHESCRUB hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahhaahahhaah i live in between the 2 sirens in sandhurst & i can hear the TRL/BHM siren
am I the only one that noticed that the blue painted siren's high tone damper failed on video?!
Low-tone damper my bad
shodowhater I noticed :)
Ok cool so I'm not going crazy.
shodowhater hehe. Yeah that's what I meant in the description by 'with faults'. Would love to get right up to one of these sirens to check them out properly.
+mrmattandmrchay ask for permition
mrmattandmrchay I have seen you record a klaxon siren on goggle maps lol
rotary revor where?
Siren A’s hi lo is slow
Erwin Besmonte I know
They’re sound kinda not even as far as hi lo go. Like it’s slow pulses then fast.
great video wow good job like ist very much ;)
i like the siren b
And siren B’s lo is broken
yup, these are very old sirens! I wonder how many parts are original from 1952? That's when they were fitted.
wow I am only 49 years old! I was born in 1970! I can't belive these are older than me!
during the rundowns, they sound like 2/3t22's.

siren b is on pulse tone

+Roman TBoman they have to do it like that
BROADMOOR should have ACA 508 sirens. Because they are Loud as klaxon cs8s and do really slow hi lo.

+JUSTIN “JUSTINtheTRAIN” O.K. ok
No 508s are louder than Klaxons and 508s don't do hi lo. the main reason why we don't have 508s is because we don't have the correct power for them (unless they are 50/60Hz)
JUSTIN O.K. Aca does not make 508 it's fs
