- Installing vinyl siding is really easy. Just always make sure you leave room for expansion otherwise your siding will buckle and pop.
Here is a website of mine. I've made a list of some tools you may like.

Love the "matter of fact" way that you do your videos. Straight forward and direct. ("if you got mental issues....") Cracks me up. Love it.
Thank you very much
You are the real deal! Thank you for explaining the “how to’s” for every days folks like me. Funny and not of mindless talk! 👍🏼
Thank you very much. I sure do try to keep it real.
You’re a great teacher. I feel like I can do this now and before I found your straight shooting I was overwhelmed.
Thank you so much Gail, always my pleasure.
Useful tips through out all your videos and you have a way of pointing out important things that most diy home owners never think about. I've been watching your videos for several years now and I always pick up a new trick or two from your videos. Thanks Dominic.
Perfect,.,.that's the way instructional videos should be shown and narrated too. It makes it easier to remember those tips etc.
Great video man. Loved the “direct talk” on how to install.
what a video.. amazing,..love your presentation, very humor.. I am not native english speaker..totally got what you explain. love to watch. no serious and not faking either
Wow, thank you!
Good audio and a cameraman, the fundamentals of successful RUclips videos. Well done!
looks real good. my brother did this on his new 2400 sq ft home and nailed them down too tight. in summer all the siding warped/bubbled had to torn down and start over new again. most of the bulges were tractor tire size. the concern was here in the midwest 80mph straight line winds peel vinyl off many homes
No kidding, 80 mph winds, wow.
Very informative and funny!
I need to remove siding from the bottom of the house (BBQ melt, don't ask) to half way up the wall.
Thank you. Oh I have a video on just that
Very helpful. great approach to teaching. good detail. Thank you.
How close did you get with the nails to where the two pieces meet (first row)
Also, would like to see a DIY where you put faux rock on the concrete part of the house
Hey man thanks alot for a straight up video
Straight to the point
what type of blade works best for this type of stuff
Love the vid!
No bullshit straight to the point!
Man, your videos really helped me out alot. Kept coming back and watching like wait whats the next step. thanks for the help,. Louie
Great video, Dominick! I've been working up the courage to do this myself for a couple of years. I think I'm going to try it! I need a little more coaching for going around windows - and doing an inside corner (but I assume the corner piece works about the same as an outside corner. Also, need more coaching on making it fit at the top, at the eaves.
But, great video. Love you style. I'll look for more videos by you!.
Thank you. Yeah you can do it. You'll see
I love this dude
Great video and ironically, he’s using the same colors as I am on my house. Looks good.
Love your videos, please keep making them, very informative and entertaining!
Thank you! Will do!
Hey! You are Right On! lol Best information and instruction yet and a good sense of humor, from Canada.. Thanks
You talk like a real tradesmen, great job man. You even made me chuckle 😅 .
Thanks buddy
😂you crack me up. Watched the whole video because it’s not boring.
Excellent! Its been 14 yrs since i did VS regularly. Needed a quick tutorial for a VS job this week. The video was a great help. I like the real talk attitude. I may subscribe if there r a pretty good amt of videos covering work projects i need help r a tutorial with. Most likely i will b bak on your channel b/c wrk is pickin up in a variety. Thanks!
Can you please tell me how to measure for siding so that I will know how much to order?
Could you please tell me what tools I will need and any extras like boards and what type of nails or screws to use?
Thank you so much for a great video!

anyone know how to replace the starter strip if you only need to replace the bottom piece of siding...without tearing it all off
Ok so after watching your video for a while . .. all due respect sir , but that is not the proper way to install vinyl siding . You missed the most important part , using house wrap and tape . If this is how you did the entire job your going to have major water damage down the road . I’m interested to hear your excuse for not wrapping the house . I’m just being honest . Look at any vinyl siding instructional video from all of the manufacturers. I’m pretty sure you just voided the warranty on this siding . Look it up and if you can find any link or anything that says you don’t have to use house wrap before installing ANY type of siding I’ll gladly post another comment saying that I’m completely wrong and apologize. Come on bro , you did such a good job explaining everything else
Love the video as well, especially as you've given me just enough to go ahead and do my own myself.
Any comments on aluminum vs vinyl? I've got aluminum, and I expect vinyl is less prone to denting....
In the NE where it gets down to 0 -10'f, and expect to be putting it on when its about 80'
Boots I don't install it, but I sell and distribute it. Aluminum hardly ever gets shipped undamaged. Its heavier and harder to work with... Not to mention gets damaged in transit
This guy's funny as hell

Love your commentary. Great teacher!

Very helpful, thanks!
What happened to the vapor barrier?
This guy is AWESOME!
Thank you very much buddy
Would you recommend at 3:33 cutting the corner piece so that on the right side (inside) it continues up the the eave? Is there a reason not to do this?
Yes you can for sure. Really depends on your layout.
Hey man yes notch the corner post into the eve! I just use a angle finder to bring it to the post. I used a scrap piece of corner post just to check it or adjust. Then used the scap as a template for the left and right sides as they were the same roof pitch (on my house anyways) for the rest of the job your house might be different. It's a pain in the ass but in the end looks natural as if it was a pine corner post and also leave a gap 1/4" all around between the soffit and the facia board for expansion.
Your great man. Enjoyed and learned something
Can you make a video for installing the small edges by the roof top
This is my kinda host. Subscribed
Good Stuff- Now here's my dilemma: the Front of my house has T-1-11 The sides have Vinyl siding, on the Corners it looks like its just a J channel that stops right on the corners , If I want to finish the Front with siding to match the rest of the house, what would I need to do on the corners, I can't just put a Corner Post on, It would work for the front, but it wouldn't work for the other side- again the siding is all ready on the sides, Finished) Would I have to take off all the siding on the sides ( 1st piece) and then put my corner on and then slip the removed pieces back on?? Thx
I WANNA DRINK WITH THIS GUY !!
Thank you this helped alot!!
Glad it helped!
why arent you using a vapor barrier?
ok you answered.
Because he putting siding over an existing old siding
rere nomad j
needs house wrap no matter what or the job will suck.
@@hpmacmurray fake news
I had a garage fire on one wall. I replaced the vinyl with wood siding as I plan on adding a lean too. I cant figure out what to do on the corners where the Vinyl and wood meet at the corners. Just J it? Double J it?
That is really hard for me to say without seeing it.
First off I loved you! Your super handsome and I love your back east accent! Now that I got that out of the way. How does my daughter and I cut the angles for a pitched roof like towards your roof line?
Now that you got my attention LOL... Thank you. How I do it, I place the siding as far as I go on with it to the corner. left or right, I place another one on top of that but against the roof line/inside edge and draw line and cut it. I hope that help.
Excellent video!! Thanks man!
I have what I believe is a good question,
I am house wrapping over t 1-11 to install vinyl siding. How do I run the siding up to original trim around doors and windows ? Do I have to remove and replace the trim because of the extra thickness or do I just put it up with the vinyl end trim against the molding or trim? I am a self learner and can tell a good person to get info from easily. So I’m asking you. Please help me understand as I don’t have any family for help. I have replaced all my windows with appropriate flashing and caps (that I made out of coil stock) above all windows and really just need the right info. Thank you for your time, I am not the person that asks 100 different people and then tells everyone how so and so said your wrong. I have been a heavy diesel and gear train tech my whole life and hate when people ask me how to do something, just for them to window shop with every Tom, harry, or DICK just to feel better about themselves and they just F it up anyway.
Again, Thank you
Usually you would install J. Channel around the windows and doors. But not every house is the same. Send me a picture if you like
@@DominickAmorosso thank you sir. That is exactly what I needed to know. I thought there had to be something but I also wasn’t sure if the thickness of the siding will mess up not having enough trim protrusion. But with j channel it wouldn’t matter if it was flush or molding still stuck out 1/4”. When I get back home at the end of the week if I feel you didn’t just set me in a straight line with confidence, I will gladly snap a pic and send.
Again sincerely Thank You. Straight to the point and straight up, I couldn’t ask for another thing from a man. Thank you Mr. Amorosso.
@@michaelkeyes3856 Always my pleasure.

Happy Thanksgiving.....
And same to you. Thank you.
Just wanted to say Thank you for all your awesome videos that helped me total remodel moms bathroom, you day man! Merry Christmas and Hope you have a "Great Again" new year!
Bend your top and bottom outside corner to prevent beehives or chipmunks from getting in
Lmao hold the smile a second longer at the end. Hahaha 😂 great video tho, thank you!
Thank you.
Hahahaomg😂😂👍yes
awesome video, very informative
Thank you very much.
Just had my first day learning cutting sidding wasn't as easy as I thought.
It get easier and faster over time.
I watched your video on siding over T1-11. Is it better to remove the T1-11 before the vinyl siding?
There is a very good chance that the T-111 is the only sheathing you have. So just treat it like it's the only plywood you have on your house.
@@Askmediy I know that there is the black fiber board behind the T1-11. Does it make sense to remove everything, insulate with 1” styrofoam, then a cement fiber board siding?
should the starter be level? on the bottom ?
Yes big time level
solid video bro
Appreciate it, thank you very much
It’s about to be 1 year that you haven’t uploaded anything. Where are you
Hey, how have you been? Yeah, busy busy working my ass off. Building a new BIG wood shop so many more to come and soon. I promise.
Nice job
I think I would of put vapor barrier around it if I was doing it. Who knows what all is behind that old shit. It’s better to go an extra step and make sure no water can get in there and start rotting out that wood. Unless the client said no to it. Just my way of thinking about it all.
Grate show please make more you sound like a Boston Italian mama meta.
Thanks Bruce
thanks so much....
First, sorry for the delay. For some reason I'm not getting notified of incoming comments. Always my pleasure
Thank you
When is your next video sir?
Finishing the shop, as soon as I'm done. Hoping on this coming weekend
Thanks for the info I like youer adatud say it like it is no bull shit

Merry Christmas to you and yours also

here is the vapour barrier behind the sideing
He's not making videos anymore?
I am, just been super busy with work and life. I plan on making them again very very soon. But gee I already made so many that I ran out of ideas. So I think I'm going to start making them in the wood shop, making things from wood. Any ideas?
funny you mention that because that is exactly what I came to your channel for. I just purchased a house and I plan on making all my own wood furniture. That would be a great idea
Oh no kidding LOL... What part of it do you think you would need the most help with?
@@Askmediy lol yea perfect timing. I'm at the beginning stages so I'd say right now it would be what types of wood to use for each project.
Damn Joe Rogan can do everything

When installing siding two people make the job easier.
First off sorry for the delay, for some reason I'm not getting emails for comments. Oh god I'll it does.
Why would you stop making videos especially after getting 47k views on this one? Plus you said you would make a video on how to do siding at the top of a house but you didn't
Christian Moore oh no not at all. Just very very very busy with work. Like really super busy.
@@Askmediy Oh okay that's understandable. Just loved the video that's why I was hoping you would do a second video on how to do siding on the top part of the house. It would be helpful since im going into a construction business that's gonna start me off doing siding.
I think some people who comment on here watch the video on mute. Haha. Because they dont pay attention to what he said and explains why he didn't do certain things... sigh... no wonder it's hard to find good help these days.
I think you're right lol. On both accounts
aeh howya doin
Just noticing youre not using a vapor barrier
Are you on drugs or something
Got a wild hair growing up your butt from the sound of you LOL
Hilarious
I hope in a good way!
Mental issues...use a speed square👌
He talked too much and always wrap and insulate he’s all over the place
Than don't listen. House was already wrapped under the T-111 ass.
Askmediy,
Are you not concerned with condensation behind the new vinyl rotting the old wood siding because of the colder climate?
Animal abuse is not funny. Other than that it was an okay video. Entertaining but not very informative, better luck next time bro.
He wasn't referencing abuse. He was talking about pest control. He didn't say he was going to beat the dog, just put it out of it's misery, very humane.
Only one dog was wasted in the making of this video!! LOL
Love your style. I would work for you, most are so up tight you want to nail them under the siding.
134 amigo 👌
How did you side over the 5/8 over lap on the gable end?
First off sorry for the delay. For some reason I'm not getting emails on comments. In my case I just sided right over it. Up and over. I was just looking to get this covered up and sold. Not the greatest way for sure. However you couldn't really tell. It's going to really depend on where the nailer falls. Too close, and that wouldn't be good.
I am sorry but there really needs to be a regulation/ building code that is followed before any siding job is done. Every township/city should have an inspector who signs off on every step of the way with sanctions from the siding institute. There are too many contractors who follow shoddy practices because they don't care. The consumer/homeowner is pretty much defenseless when it comes to siding jobs. Some of the worst examples come from the largest companies! I was about to sign off on a job for over $25k without any detailed written descriptions of the practices that should be followed. Its pretty bad when you have to follow the installer around the house to make sure he does his job correctly! That is IF you know what's supposed to be done correctly? Most homeowners do not and each manufacturer has their own set of procedures.
More like a family member showing you how to do it love his candor. Actually enjoyable to watch him. He does give you that right information so safe to watch.
you need a vapor barrier or you void any warranty...the walls will mold from the sweat. tyvex and tyvek taped seams works good.
matanuska high I said the same thing , this is a shit job done in my opinion , the fact he neglected to use house wrap just goes to show . People are ignorant . I wonder if he even added drip cap to the windows . And yes it voided the warrantee , I want to like this guy but that messed it up for me
Thanks very much for the great information I’ve got a small bit to do and I feel very confident in your instruction
Thanks for the video. I’m going to be putting vinyl siding over t1-11 this year. Can you tell us what you did about the overlap of t1-11 higher up on the wall? Did you pull it off to maintain a flat surface? Do you recommend cutting out any rotted t1-11 and replacing it with OSB? Thanks again 👍
Always my pleasure. Yes always cut out and replace any rotted wood. Funny you ask about that overlap. This was my house that I was just doing a quick flip. Believe it or not, I went right over it. Depends on how you look at it if you can see it or not. I mean not really the way to go about it for sure. Removing it would be a lot of work. Normally I fur out up to it with 1/2" furring strips. But not always the best choice because of windows and doors. You could side up to it, install some flashing and start again over lapping it. Not a very thing to explain
askmediy thanks for the response. Yeah I was thinking of removing it or transitioning to another style of siding (vertical or artificial cedar planks) at that point with a white horizontal trim piece. It sounds like there might be some starter strips and accessories that help with that? It also sounds like trying to soften the edge and continuing on might work well too
I love tour honesty and camera personality. I’m sure you are on camera as you are in person. Great video.
I eat it up lol. Thank you very much.
Where is the vapor barrier. No warranty without it.
Some very good tips but for realz, need that vapor barrier "gotta do it all over again"
Its his getaway house, hes knows n doesnt care, geez pay attention
If you show how to install vinyl siding, putting vapor is a must. Vapor barrier is actual thing that keeps away leaks. Siding itself is more cosmetical
I love how idiots get on here to troll. Vapor barrier is not a necessity. I hardly ever used it. Not needed for warranty and certainly not needed for leaks !!!
Fruity Sprutey ef
Hilarious and very informative! What more could you ask for?? Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Where do you nail the starter strip in? Do you have it so it's hanging down below the sill plate?
Yes, it will always hang lower than the sill plate.
Thank you for plainly saying how to place my seams!
Liked and subbed. Keep up the good work.
I have the same exact wood siding that's old and ugly. I know its a dumb question, but is it really ok to put siding over the old stuff? Is there any situation when its not a good idea? Thanks for the great how to vid.
First off sorry for the delay. For some reason I'm not getting emails on comments. You see in this house the T-111 siding is also the sheeting. With only a vapor barrier under that. If the wood siding it rotted I would replace it before anything.
Great video! Very informative, short and to the point, and a good sense of humor along the way!
Your siding show is the best in explaining how to do the other shows by the time thay show you you are falling asleep keep up more shows please good work
Thank you very much
