Thank you so much dude, you have helped me so much getting into a pair of boots that actually fit correctly and are comfortable. I understand why so many people struggle accepting that their mondo size is actually their correct boot size. I now have a pair of boots that are snug, super responsive, and have zero heel lift and I do not have to tie my laces tightly. I think most peoples issue is that they are swimming in their boots and have to crank their laces/boa to an extreme degree which causes discomfort and will never eliminate heel life no matter how much they tighten. I urge anyone watching this video to trust the process and have faith that the boots that are a little uncomfortable in the store and on the first few wears will pack out and form around the foot over time.

Knowing by current boots are starting to give heal lift, pain and need overtighted, i will need new ones to last this season. spoke to 2 shops in the Uk and they said i needed to size up! unreal, i feel i need to name and same these places for giving bad advice.
tried on my friends uk9 boots and they fitted tight and more snug and more comfortable!! WTF!
after using your process ive just ordered size uk9, 4 sizes smaller than i was wearing and told was my size by snowboard shops in uk.

Great video, I bought a board second hand and got bindings and boots with it for free, they where the same size is my shoes so I thought it would fit. I just went on a trip of 4 days in somewhat of a harder area, mostly red and black slopes. On blue slopes it was al fine, but on the steeper ones I just could not get any movement going quick and my heel would almost pop out the shoe it would feel like. I tried working on my technique, until realising wearing 3 pairs of sock because they are too big is just crazy. This video helped me try and find the right size.

Well i got them, they are TIGHT, but after heat molding them i think we will be ok. Bit tight across the big toe on both sides, but otherwise they feel ok, certainly the first few days on the mountain will be a little rough, but hoping they pack out and flex out a little and then i should be fine. Now that i live so close to the slopes that day trips are super possible i hope a bit of tightness at first will lead to a longer lasting boot.

My measured shoe size is 9.5. But I generally wear size 10 in both shoe and board boots. I can only wear Birkenstocks in size 9.5, which fit tight initially, before molding to my feet after a few weeks of daily wear.
Burton & Northwave boots fit perfect for me at size 10. My toes slightly brush the front of the boot, without curling my toes. I’ve tried a pair of ThirtyTwo boots, and size 10 made my toes curl with a bit of pain. So, boot brand can vary a bit with size and fitment.

This video saved my snowboarding season (and possibly snowboarding as a hobby)
I recently got into snowboarding again after about 13 years (Im 30 now). I got a whole new setup obviously and the guy at my local shop sized my boot as a size 10 (Im a 9.5 mens). The first time I went up, I felt a little awkward on my feet, but I thought I'm obviously going to be rusty, not having snowboarded in over a decade. The next 4 times I went up, I was CONSTANTLY feeling more progressively awkward on my board, catching edges randomly, shit ton of heel lift and foot pain and my legs hurt so much. I was NOT HAVING FUN. I knew something was wrong with my gear. My feet were swimming around my boots and had almost an inch of heel rise
I found this video, measured my feet with the mondo sizing and i sized my boots DOWN to a 9.0 in mens and I went up snowboarding again today...
I immediately had SO MUCH CONTROL, No foot pain, very responsive in my turns, walking around in my boots doesn't drain my energy. I was even able to get back into the terrain park and hit some jumps and easy boxes and had SO MUCH FUN. Snowboarding can absolutely SUCK if your gear isnt right.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INFORMATION MAN. You saved snowboarding for me.

Not so sure about this. Each boot is constructed differently. I wear a 10 shoe size. I’ve had 9.5 Burton Rulers from years past that had me scrunching my toes at the end of the boot to the point where I was in pain by mid day. I’ve had a similar pair of Burtons 9.5 that cut off the circulation of my toes in my right boot. (Should have bought my shoe size)
Point being, I’d suggest demoing boots if you can if they still do demo days. I’ve found that you won’t understand how boots will truly work for you until you’ve rode a full day in them. My .02. Feel free to crap on it if you like. :-)

    • @wiredsport1
      @wiredsport1  Год назад

Hi Rob, Comparing to shoe size is never the way to go. Always start with your 4 barefoot measurements. That allows you to match both length and width which is essential. Sadly, demo for boots is not valuable because heat fit is required to get it right and this can not be done in a demo environment. STOKED!

This has been a revelation. Thank you.
YEARS ago (about 10) I was sold very expensive Burton boots in a London store (The Snow Boarding Asylum) . 'What's your shoe size?' (UK 8, euro 42), 'Try these on. Bend your knees? Do your heels move?'. I remember asking if they had a measuring scale.... no.
I've spent years having to tighten the boots so much to feel any control of the board - so much that my feet would sting and go numb with loss of blood flow within an hour or two.
I went to a cheaper store (Decathlon) recently to try on the boots. On Decathlons foot scale I was 41 (40.5) but then I started measuring mondo (257-260) so it looks like I'm 40 using mondo and the online tool you've shared). I bought 4 pairs (!) of boots (40 and 41) and have been wearing them for stints at home. It does seem to be 40...
Another tip I hear recently is to NOT wear thick ski socks for fitting. Wear normal and you'll sense what the fit will be like after the boot breaks-in and the liner gets compacted.
One thing I can't understand is that the Burton boots in 42 are merry hell to get on and off (even after wearing in and with an incorrect inch to 1.5 inch at the end). Really hard work - so I can see why people end up in too big a size. And yet the decathlon ones go on and off fine, but are much more snug.
*One question* should I thermal-form with regular socks or ski socks?

  • @Tihon94
    @Tihon94 2 года назад +1

Hey Wiredsport! I've been lurking snowboarding forums for a while and have always highly appreciated the insight that you have provided to the community and those looking into correctly fitting their boots. I have always had some bad experiences with boots and was wondering if you could provide some insight into my next boot purchase
My first boot I had bought with the help of the salesperson at the store, and ended up making the mistake of buying a boot (K2 Maysis) that was my street shoe size of 8. After a while I figured out that I was needing to overtighten the BOAs to make sure my foot was being held in place, which in return cut off circulation and caused a lot of pain and hot spots on my foot. My toes were nowhere near close to being at the front of the boot. After 2 season with these and spending time getting informed about mondo sizing through various snowboarding forum posts, I measured out to have a mondo size of 251 with a width of 3.75. For more context, I am pretty flat footed as well and usually think that my feet are on the wider side of things. With this width, it wouldn't constitute for a wide sized boot right?
After my initial purchase, I wanted to upgrade my setup with the "correct" sizing of boots and wanted to try the new step-on bindings as well to improve the quality of life when riding. Looking at various charts, I noticed they were a little generic saying a size 7 US was mondo 250, and then 7.5 was a mondo 255. Not knowing it would be a significant difference, I purchased a pair of boots (DC Control Step-On) in size 7 since I figured 251 would be close enough to 250. After heat molding and riding in them though (thinking they would pack out), I was still having pain and realized that my index toe is being curled in due to the size of the boot.
I realize now that I should've have posted something before to confirm prior to purchasing. Is it correct to say that my next pair of boots should round up to the vendor's next highest mondo size conversion? I.e. my mondo 251 should go according to a vendor's 255 mondo which would equate to a US size 7.5? Additionally, I saw that you mentioned on another user's post that the Step-On's are known to have comfort issues. I found my pinky to have a lot of pain when riding, do you believe this is an issue with the size of step-on boots or just in general?
I'm not opposed to going back to a traditional setup if that would help alleviate foot pains. Would you have any boot recommendations if I were to go down this route with my provided mondo and width sizes? I appreciate any help or advice that you can provide!

It was abrased, as if it could have developed a blister. These burton wides are 9.5, my normal shoe size is 11 US. When I put my boot on, initially it feels pretty nice. I know when i'm walking, i'm not in the L shape of the boot. I also know it takes a while for the boot to pack out. I also considered doing heat molding. Or returning them and getting a 10 instead. I used to use 10.5 and I was swimming. This is like sophies choice:
    - try snowboarding with tag on to see whether I experience the pinkie toe abrasion again. if i do I can return it
    - return it and get a size 10 (which means waiting another 10+ days before i can step on)
    - heat mold it, but possibly void the warranty
    - use without the insole giving my feet a bit more room

Fantastic video and sizing tool. Thank you. I recently got measured as follows:
    Left 31cm long x 11.4cm wide
    Right 31.2cm long x 11cm wide.
Trialled burton photon Step ons, in a Mondo32, but was dissuaded to try the Mondo31 - which I think in a wide model would be correct after moulding ; would you agree?
I rented / tested the Burton Photon in a mondo 32 for two days, and whilst it felt like my toes were touching the end, there was so much vertical play in the toe box, even with two thin sets of insoles. I note your comment in regards to gaining up to 1cm of additional room after moulding and breaking in, which is why I think the mondo 31 (in a wide) would be the route to go?? My right foot is slightly larger at 31.2cm, so not sure if I would need to size up ?
I have for years struggled with toe overhang (current boots are a mondo 33). Sizing down correctly (potentially by two sizes) would be a game changer. Thanks in advance for any additional validation you could add!!

Hi! I’m considering trying snowboarding for the first time. I am a so-so skier (easy blues and greens are a-ok, I can survive a steeper blue run but it’s not my choice). The problem I have with skiing is that I have plantar fasciitis and a Morton’s neuroma, both of which cause excruciating pain when skiing because the tightness of ski boots does not agree with the anatomy of my foot. Someone suggested I give snowboarding a try and after watching your video I’m nervous that the properly fit snowboarding boot will still cause pain because my PF/MN affected foot doesn’t like to be squeezed. Do you think my instincts are correct? Should I not even bother with snowboarding and perhaps just stick to snowshoeing? Thanks!!

I appreciate the video. I have a question for you. I just got some new boots through the mail yesterday. I used your measuring recommendations and the length is absolutely perfect, just how you say they should fit. The boots were incredibly snug when I first put them on and had to take them off after five minutes or so. I put them back on and walked around the house a bit. I noticed the top of my feet right before the toes was starting to lose circulation. I decided to heat mold the boots, adding two cut off socks in the toe area only (as mentioned in the REI heat molding video) which made an improvement for sure, but I'm still noticing a bit of numbness in the toe area. I'm considering doing another heat mold or just wearing them around the house for a few days in hopes that they'll break in and "pack out" enough to where I don't have any discomfort. Also, in using the width measurements, I am a few mm short of being a wide, so take that into consideration. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Professionally done (incorrect gear and / or incorrect temperatures can lead to 1. no change to the liner 2. a scorched liner).
Wear the (thin please) snowboarding socks that you will actually ride in (no loaner socks, please)
Fit with your inserts (footbeds) in the liner
      No toe caps
      Standing, feet at shoulder width

I am in the middle of a complete sizing and pain in toes debacle!
I starting riding 4 years ago and wore 8.5 boots. That is the same as my shoe size per shop recommendation. I use Burton Step Ons so binding must match. After first season I went down to 8 which meant all new bindings as well.
On a recent trip out west I rode for 11 days straight and ended up with toes jamming into the tips of my boots. Pretty painful. I went and had them heat molded and no relief.
After getting home I ordered 8.5 and new bindings again but stumbled on this video before trying them on the mountain.
After me assuring properly my mondo is 7-7.5 wide. Last night I ordered a pair of 7.5W and am quite hopeful that they will work well. I have always had issues with circulation and I can’t wait to see if that is taken care of as well.
Why do shops thill use standard show measuring devices that give incorrect advice?!
I called Burton direct to ask about my mondo size and he was nice but clueless.
Here’s to hopefully a much better / correct fit!

I made the mistake of buying boots that were to big, although they seemed to fit fine at first. After spending this past season in them i ended up with so much heel lift. So using your guide and sizing calculator I was able to find the right size boot me. My only question is, is it absolutely necessary to heat mold my liners even though everything seems to fit right. I got some new Burton Photon Boas yesterday. I tried them on and my toes are pressed up in the front with a little bit of pressure, not enough to cause any discomfort, but i’m sure they’ll break in, and my heel is locked in solid in the back. Thanks so much for the detailed sizing explanation. My normal US shoe size is men's 13. However, taking my barefoot measurements as you describe leads me to a mondo point measurement of 289 which is a men's size 11?? This is hard to accept as my current snowboarding boots are size 13 - Adidas Response boots. I tried a few others in smaller sizes (size 12 - Vans, Burton Swath) but experienced wicked pressure and pain points so I went with the larger size boot. After 10-15 mins i felt some uncomfortable pressure on a foot despite the great comfort of these boots while strapped in and toes were pretty abut to to box. The is the 10 1/2 were also pretty damn snug with the ever so slightest improvement in comfort. I talked to another guy riding these exact boots and he said they don’t even pack out that much. It is hard to be certain a video like this stands true. Why I say this? I TRIED to size down and it was most uncomfortable painful day snowboarding ever. Now way the size 9’s would ever pack out enough. We will see how much pack out my new 10.5 double BOA Ride boots do rest of this year and next but I never felt a tighter 10.5 snowboard boot in my life.. If I did anything in the future it looks like I’d just go true to size 10, but I am doing everything I can not to avoid toe cramping but foot numbing and loss of blood supply. I think companies are aware today of out packing and going down a size you do at your own risk.. after 3 hours in a size down the other week my feet felt screwed up for days after… not doing down sizing again. Go see, and try on any true to size 2023 2024 boot, your toe will be jammed to the front and you will need to do at least 15-30 days a riding to pack that out just a little bit.

I've got a question / problem. I just started riding. I've never been on a snowboard/ski before. The learning stopped for me, at the point were I was tring to ride on the frontedge (goofy).
My right foot (front) was cramping on the sole within a few seconds. I got better when I removed all my weight from that foot. The bindings, were as tight as possible.
I usally got 46eu, so I also borrowed 46eu boots. Because of the problem. I borrowed an other slightly smaller pair. Same problem - but a few seconds later. I also asked my teacher, if there should be "air pockets" between my feet and the boots....
So I assume I had 2 sizes too big, arcoding to your video. Since I want to buy my own board, boots and bindings I need your help. I was also considering those quick release ones without straps. But I guess, the problem is just the boot?
I quickly messured my feet - 285mm. But I will do that again, more carrefully. And also the width.
Do you thing it was just the boot? Any idea how to fix that?
Which boots would you recommend? (I have 280mm / 105mm width and 282mm / 102mm width (second time my messurement was 2mm off))
    Thank you

Hi TrBrky, I will be happy to help. 29.5 cm is Mondopoint 295 or size 11.5 US in snowboard boots. You should not upsize to 12. Have your heat fit done first thing. This should be considered a mandatory step with all snowboard boots. PS: the conventional Photons are terrific boots but we do not suggest the Step on Photons. That is an entirely different product with many known comfort issues.

I ordered now some Burton Ruler Wide in 275 and they fit pretty good right out of the box, my only points is that my toes are touching the front of the boot, its not painful but there is a good amount of pressure, when i bend my knees forward the pressure is gone but still my toes are touching the front, 0 heel lift at all in this boots.

Hi, so I had myself fitted at Evo in Seattle and they recommended I would go with a 10 size. My foot size is about 10.5 or a bit bigger. But when I used the size 10 boot, especially it was for a step-on, I had moments on the snow that my feet would hurt, or have circulation issues or discomfort and pain. The boot is a Burton Step On Ruler and the boa adjusted only on one zone. I got the chance to buy another boot and since I have the step on I will still have to get a step on boot, but I do not know if I should not listen and get a 10.5 size boot this time? One thing to note is that, unlike some friend of mine that have the foot flat so the upper front part of the foot didn't seem to bother them, I have a very high arch which bulges a bit the upper front of my foot. I wonder if this is the reason why a down sized boot to 10 for someone with high arch would cause discomfort and pain. I am honestly considering getting a dual zone boa this time, so maybe i can leave the lower zone a bit loose and the upper zone a bit more tight. When I did a bare foot measurement as suggested here I came to measure about 11.12. This measurement says that I should go with the 10.5 which is very close to my foot size. So I am conflicted and confused and have no idea where and what to try or do. What would you recommend I should try or do?
