Snowboard Boot Sizing Tips - Never Your Shoe Size
Просмотров 102 тыс.2 года назад
Your snowboard boot size is never the same as your US Shoe size. This one, very common, sizing error leads to most of the gear sizing mistakes (board, boots, and bindings) in snowboarding. I'll break it down for you and dive into the details of correct sizing. Here is our companion video on How To Measure: ruclips.net/video/TkSJJ6_1KYc/видео.html www.wiredsport.com www.snowboardbootsizer.com

    Hey there! I have foot length and wide as follows : 270 mm Long 115 mm Wide I know, its really wide... I did measure correctly as video says i have problems with most soccer shoes it hurts like hell. Will Ruler Boa Wides 9 be enough?

    • @wiredsport1
      @wiredsport1 9 дней назад

      Hi, no 115 mm is above the width for EEE. As such you would need to go up to a size 10 to accommodate your width. This is not ideal, but there is no manufacturer that makes boots right now for EEEE. I would suggest that you carefully measure your foot widths again as the limit for EEE is 112 mm at size 9 so if you are at or below that then you are good to go with the Ruler Wide in size 9. Please note, however, that this is for the tradional Ruler Wide in size 9 only and would not apply to Step On boots. STOKED!

    Hey Wiredsport! 👋 I could need some advice after buying through your advice last time. Right foot... Mondo: 25cm | Width: 10,3cm Left foot... Mondo: 24,5cm | Width: 10cm I'll add some more valuable info below for insight. I've been using the Burton Ion Wide size EU40 (speed lacing) based on your recommendations last time (US 7). However, when I check the conversion tool it seems that translates to EU39, when Burton converts it to EU40, something I realised just now. Anyway. I use these with vacuum-heat-molded Superfeet Custom Carbon Winter soles (seated molding to prevent pronation). The liners themselves has never been heated. I use normal Stance snowboard socks inside my boots. PROBLEMS They've felt better than any other boot so far, except for what felt like my foot getting slightly compressed by the toe-box area being too narrow. I decided to keep them anyway, and after using them during this season the following has happened: - The toe-box has expanded and no longer squish my foot horizontally. (yay) - They've started to feel roomy, especially in the heel area. Since I have some room in front of the toes too, I can push my foot forward which leaves a lot of room around the heel. It honestly feels like I could've sized down, but I don't think the Burton Ions in Wide are sold in smaller sizes. - The boots now cause a mad painful pressure point on top of the insteps which has caused saddle bone deformities (bumps on the top of insteps) on both feet at the exact same spot. SOLUTIONS The plastic pieces housing the lower lacing section on the medial sides seems to cause the pressure points in addition to the boot naturally flexing "on top" of my foot instead of where the wrist naturally flexes. I've recently discovered that I'm able to successfully mediate the pressure point by cutting and placing pieces of soft foam yoga mat between the plastic pieces and the shell tongues. So that's something. To combat the roominess I will try to add J-bars, but I'm still waiting for these to get delivered. However, maybe I would actually need to look at a different model and/or size of boots? My Ions happen to be claimed for warranty too as the outside stitching around the toe-box deteriorated after very little use, so would be nice to know in what direction I'd like to move if things go my way. QUESTIONS I've ran through so many boots without luck, so my question is, would Ride Lasso Wide or ThirtyTwo TM-2 Wide be an option for me next season(OOS), or would they just be too narrow? - What about the Burton Rulers in Wide? I've read that the Rulers are roomy around the ankles and heel, and that's what I already feel with the Ions. I know they are softer, but that could be okay. Would Burton Rulers in size EU38 be too small? They happen to be the only option out there not OOS at the moment, and I couldn't find them in EU39. How does Burton Rulers Wide in EU40 compare to the Burton Ions Wide in EU40 I currently have? - And what about Nitro boots? I've heard they're quite wide, like the Nitro Venture. - I've also heard this years Photon are shaped differently and not just a different liner, what about that? - And lastly, might the heat molded soles be a villain in this drama? Sorry for the super long comment, but fingers crossed you can help me out here! 🤞

      The main thing you should look at is mondo size which is 25 in your case. For burton that translates to eu size 40. For other manufacturers it could be 39 or 41. Yes, burton 38 boots would be too small for you

    I feel like board companies are adjusting today.. I am a true size 10. I tried on Ride Lasso’s in shop for awhile strapped in to a board. They were very snug!! After 10-15 mins i felt some uncomfortable pressure on a foot despite the great comfort of these boots while strapped in and toes were pretty abut to to box. The is the 10 1/2 were also pretty damn snug with the ever so slightest improvement in comfort. I talked to another guy riding these exact boots and he said they don’t even pack out that much. It is hard to be certain a video like this stands true. Why I say this? I TRIED to size down and it was most uncomfortable painful day snowboarding ever. Now way the size 9’s would ever pack out enough. We will see how much pack out my new 10.5 double BOA Ride boots do rest of this year and next but I never felt a tighter 10.5 snowboard boot in my life.. If I did anything in the future it looks like I’d just go true to size 10, but I am doing everything I can not to avoid toe cramping but foot numbing and loss of blood supply. I think companies are aware today of out packing and going down a size you do at your own risk.. after 3 hours in a size down the other week my feet felt screwed up for days after… not doing down sizing again. Go see, and try on any true to size 2023 2024 boot, your toe will be jammed to the front and you will need to do at least 15-30 days a riding to pack that out just a little bit.

    Seems that NO ONE knows this info. I showed it to a snowboard sales person and they were like "Ohhh, whoa, this is interesting", and they agreed with it after testing it. Before watching this video I was getting sized a full size too big each time I rented. Watched this, downsized and my feet did not hurt anymore. Used this method to measure my foot and find the right size. I wear a size 14 shoe traditionally. After measuring I was on the cusp of 12.5 into 13 for snowboard boots. One of my feet is slightly bigger than the other (most people have the same issue, they just don't know) and I went with a size 13 snowboard boot. Ordered some Burton Ruler double boas and they arrived recently. They fit just like this video (and the last video) said they should - an "all-around fit". My toes slightly touch the front, but not in a bad painful way. After some break in the heat moldable liner the boots will mold to my feet and it will give a few extra millimeters . Then they'll fit even better. I can't say thanks enough for this video. This is a piece of snowboarding gold. Update: Ridden 4 times with the new boots and have had ZERO foot pain. This video is spot on.

Trialled burton photon Step ons, in a Mondo32, but was dissuaded to try the Mondo31 - which I think in a wide model would be correct after moulding ; would you agree? I rented / tested the Burton Photon in a mondo 32 for two days, and whilst it felt like my toes were touching the end, there was so much vertical play in the toe box, even with two thin sets of insoles. I note your comment in regards to gaining up to 1cm of additional room after moulding and breaking in, which is why I think the mondo 31 (in a wide) would be the route to go?? My right foot is slightly larger at 31.2cm, so not sure if I would need to size up ? I have for years struggled with toe overhang (current boots are a mondo 33). Sizing down correctly (potentially by two sizes) would be a game changer. Thanks in advance for any additional validation you could add!!

I got a whole new setup obviously and the guy at my local shop sized my boot as a size 10 (Im a 9.5 mens). The first time I went up, I felt a little awkward on my feet, but I thought I'm obviously going to be rusty, not having snowboarded in over a decade. The next 4 times I went up, I was CONSTANTLY feeling more progressively awkward on my board, catching edges randomly, shit ton of heel lift and foot pain and my legs hurt so much. I was NOT HAVING FUN. I knew something was wrong with my gear. My feet were swimming around my boots and had almost an inch of heel rise I found this video, measured my feet with the mondo sizing and i sized my boots DOWN to a 9.0 in mens and I went up snowboarding again today... I immediately had SO MUCH CONTROL, No foot pain, very responsive in my turns, walking around in my boots doesn't drain my energy. I was even able to get back into the terrain park and hit some jumps and easy boxes and had SO MUCH FUN. Snowboarding can absolutely SUCK if your gear isnt right. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INFORMATION MAN. You saved snowboarding for me.

    Was just on the K2 site yesterday and downloaded and printed their boot sizing template/chart, which is set up to use on the floor under the foot in accord with your wall technique. It equates mondo 29.5 to U.S. mens' size 12.5, "indicates snug boot fit, size up or down to preference." Of course this is different from 11.5 = mondo 29.5. I'm guessing that they and other manufacturers would rather not be switching out boots that were ordered online any more than necessary, so they may err on the side of largeness. Also I notices that Salomon now sells online in U.S. sizes that are different from their mondo and US markings of years past. I have a couple old pairs of Malamutes (5 and 10 yr old) that are labeled 30.5 mondo and US mens' 12.5, which matches your bootsizer. They don't seem to sell a 12.5 online.

      @wiredsport1 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, we're aware of this. It is really bad information and it should *not be online*. Mondopoint size is simply a barefoot measurement in millimeters. It is not a conversion. Amazing videos. Clear as a bell! One question, why is the common advice "try on as many boots as you can"? Is that really necessary?This is impossible for me, based on where i live. And i need new boots! I've been riding boots a full size too big for TOO many years. I just did my four measurements: 27.7 cm and 27.4cm length, and both feet 9.7cm width. Which makes me a size 10, width C. Narrow? I have no choice but to order boots online. I may order two or more to try on, and return the one i dont keep. Any recommendations? Black, banged up big toe on the larger forward foot is simply ruining it for me.

    • @wiredsport1
      @wiredsport1 8 месяцев назад

      Hi, I will be happy to help. You're correct. Trying on a lot of boots can often lead people in the wrong direction, particularly newer riders. A boot will not take its final form until it has both been heat fit, and then riden for two weeks. it will pack out about one full shoe size in that period. For that reason, trying on a lot of boots can often be very misleading. You are a standard size 10 in snowboard boots. Please do note that if you have a bruised toenail now, that all boots will be uncomfortable until that heals. The bruising itself was almost certainly caused by your old boots being too large. Im a 10.5 shoe. Tried 10.5 boots for 2 days and couldnt feel my big toe . Most pain ever. Definitely going a half size up and not down. Foot measures almost 11 inches.

      Hi, there is going to be an error in your measurements. 11 inches does not result in US shoe size of 10 1/2. Please provide all four of your barefoot measurements as width is every bit as important as length. STOKED!

      I felt the same, I use 9.5 shoes. I tried 9.5 boots and my toes were literally bent, just trying the boots was painful. So I tried size 10 boots and it felt snug enough, I could flex my knees and my heels didn't move up and I could also feel the front of the boot w/ my toes.

    Hey man, first off appreciate the info and the fact that you're still replying to comments. I recently tried the Swathe and the Imperial burtons. I tried the 10.5 because I had been riding in old DC 10.5s. My foot measures 26.5 cms and according to your calculations I should get an 8.5. If my toe was already touching in the 10.5 wouldnt that make the 8.5 way too small?

      Hi, I will be happy to help. Please post up all four of your barefoot measurements. That is essential to getting this correct. Thanks!

      @@wiredsport1 Thanks! so both are 26.5cm in length and 10.5 cm in width, I'm going to try on some more sizes in a few days just want to make sure.

      Got it. 10.5 cm is an EE with at 265 mm (Mondo 265 or size 8.5 US in snowboard boots). This requires a very specific Wide boot. I would strongly suggest either the Burton Ruler Wide or Burton ION Wide size 8 1/2.

      @@wiredsport1 Hey man, so I measured again and the width is actually 10cms not 10.5 so I guess I don't need Wide boots? I tried the Imperials i went down to a size 9 and they felt really snug I think 8.5 might be a bit too small

    I haven’t bought snowboard boots yet but when i get rentals i always size up about 1.5-2 sizes and my toes are touching the end of the boot or even need to be scrunched up. Is this how they should fit or should i try sizing down or up even more?

    I've got a question / problem. I just started riding. I've never been on a snowboard/ski before. The learning stopped for me, at the point were I was tring to ride on the frontedge (goofy). My right foot (front) was cramping on the sole within a few seconds. I got better when I removed all my weight from that foot. The bindings, were as tight as possible. I usally got 46eu, so I also borrowed 46eu boots. Because of the problem. I borrowed an other slightly smaller pair. Same problem - but a few seconds later. I also asked my teacher, if there should be "air pockets" between my feet and the boots.... So I assume I had 2 sizes too big, arcoding to your video. Since I want to buy my own board, boots and bindings I need your help. I was also considering those quick release ones without straps. But I guess, the problem is just the boot? I quickly messured my feet - 285mm. But I will do that again, more carrefully. And also the width. Do you thing it was just the boot? Any idea how to fix that? Which boots would you recommend? (I have 280mm / 105mm width and 282mm / 102mm width (second time my messurement was 2mm off)) Thank you

    Question! My right foot is a full centimeter larger than my left foot. My right foot comes in at 276mm and my left foot comes in at 266mm. What size should I be looking at here?

      Hi, you do have a large discrepancy between your R/L foot sizes, however, you will still need to go with the size 10 and sizing for the larger foot. You're only other option would be to order two sizes of boot in which case you would order size 9 and 10. STOKED!

    Hello, I am looking to buy a pair of step on boots that are compatiable with burton stepon bindings. I have measured my feet and these are the values I have gotten. Right Foot: Length: 25.70cm|10.12in|257 mondo Width: 9.3cm|3.6in Left Foot: Length: 25.70cm|10.12in|257 mondo Width: 9.3cm|3.6in I usually wear a 9.5 in mens shoes but it seems that I would fit an 8 according to the general size. What size would you reccomend for DC/Burton step on shoes. Was looking at the DC Control shoes specifically. Thank you

    Do I need a wide boot with these measurements? Length: R 264mm/ L 265mm - Width: R 99mm /L 97mm

      You do require a specific wide boot. Your foot is Mondopoint 265 or size 8 1/2 US in snowboard boots. You are an E width. I would strongly suggest the Solomon dialogue wide size 8.5. STOKED!
