I wear size 12 shoes and always thought I was 13 in snowboard boots. My current DC Judge standard boots are 13 and feel stretched out. Just got Nitro Darkseid BOA and was concerned because when standing straight up my big toe touched, this video helped me realize when I bend my knees they are perfect and super comfortable. I’m not wearing them to walk around, I’m wearing them to ride with knees bent. So hey, they are actually a true fit compared to my regular shoes, thanks 🙏🏻
I have the EXACT same. Got a pair of Nitro Darkseid Step On 24/25 for 340 euro (50% sale) size 11. Also bought Burton Photon Step on wide for 490 euro size 11. Will return 1 pair soon. My big toe is like just not fitting when standup up streight in the Darkseid, but when I bend my knees they slide just a bit away from the tip. They will set with the weeks of boarding to come anyway... so they will get a tad bit more larger on the inside. On the Photons I already have enough space on my toes and broad side of the foot. I think they will get a bit too large when my foot set in these boots... Probably going for the Darkseid.
Was about to send back some boots I really liked because of toe touch. They felt "just a bit small" out the box. You've convinced me to try them out, and saved some me a few duckets on return shipping. Many thanks!
Perfect advice! I got new boots this year and I got them 2 sizes smaller than my previous boots (the shop that sold me my first pair did a terrible job in guiding me for my size). I was feeling the new boots snug and it felt weird at home, but after trying them 3 days on the mountain I have to say they are very comfortable while riding and I can finally control my board without any heel lift! So listen to this dude’s advice he definitely knows what he’s talking about!
Really good explanation. Particularly the part about what socks to wear during fitting was a handy tip for me. I thought my 12 year old boots were good because no obvious signs of wear on the outside…bought a new pair this year and realized the other ones are like wet cardboard compared to the new boots! I was able to get some powerful carves even with those old boots so definitely looking forward to this season with new boots!!
Yeah, that is always a hard thing. When you are using your boots and breaking them in over the years it can be hard to know when they’ve gone soft. Stoked you got some new ones, definitely going to feel more effortless edge to edge and have way more stability. Enjoy the ride!
Thanks man! I’m from the uk so don’t have a local snow shop and just bought my first pair of boots which are on the way, will come back to this video and go though all the things again, this helps a lot!
This video helped me. Especially knowing about your heel lift. I never knew that and also how to stand in the boots when getting an idea of how they fit. I like to put some stones from the beach on the radiator, when they are hot I jam them into new boots to break them in. For a long time I wore size 6.5 uk ThirtyTwos, my toes were in a fist, a couple of years later I got some awful Burton boots that were size 7. Seemed tight but better, then next year they suddenly didn't fit and were painful to wear, the boa wire started slicing through the inner shoe and cutting my leg. I now have Salomon size 7.5 (I'm 7 in my hiking boots) and I think I've only now after a couple of decades found my size. It's easy to put yourself through these things when you 've been used to being a solo rider or ride with a skier.
Good info here. I'd add though that it's probably best to forget your shoe size in whatever part of the world you live in and just measure your foot and go from there (Mondo size for example). This is because most people have no idea what size shoe they really are - they just know what size shoe they wear and they are not the same thing because some people like snug shoes and others like them loose.
Stoked to see Matt at Peter Glenn. Crazy that I found gear thats mostly not available in snow shops near resorts always at Peter Glenn in Florida & they ship fast.
I wear a size 14 in work boots and i got a size 13 in snowboard boot and i thought it was to small because the liner is like a perfect fit to my foot im gunna drive an hour to the closest shop and have them heat molded and stuff hopefully i got the right size

So when I bought mine I ended up with 2 different sizes and the 9 my toes are curled and hurt but the 10 they are snug but comfortable so would you say 10 is better
I can feel the heel side lifting up when i tippy toe. My big toe is generally shorter than the rest of my toes with the exception of the pinky toe. my longest toe is already touching the tip of the boot - its not uncomfortable by any means but if i size down, i think my toes will claw. I guess now the question is how much "claw" is acceptable? Or are there boots for people with longer toes? Any advice?
I really you don’t want your toes curling up just touching the front in a new boot. If you are getting heel lift you might just need different boots that fit your feet a little better.
@@TvbLOVER1 you might wanna look at some of the 32 boots in a traditional lace. Something from the Lashed up in the lineup. They have pockets on the outside of the liner by your heels and come with foam donuts to help really pinch around your heel to lock your ankle in better. Also, the standard lacing system allows you to really focus the lacing across your ankle for even more hold down.
So of i might ask some advice... I wear a SO burton Ruler which seem to fit fine when walking around but can get uncomfortable during riding, probably becusee it is to narrow. Checked with a local shop and i actuallt now went down to a SO burton Photon Wide and fhey fit tight! It is a full size down. As soon as a use them i cant return em so a bit in between it now. Recently getting better at switch riding and it eliviates the pain in the ruler boot..
Sometimes a boot might feel snug at first, but after the liner molds to your foot they’ll become more comfortable. The fact that they help alleviate the pain from your Rulers when switch riding is a good sign-your feet might just need a little time to adjust to the new boots. If they’re still feeling too tight after breaking them in, a boot fitter might be able to do some tweaks to give you that extra bit of comfort.
I wear us8 shoes normally, I rented 8 Burton Motos and had mega blisters after one session. Just bought 8.5s in a Swath and now worried I got them too big. Toe still touches the edge of the boot while bending my knees though
It's pretty common to size up half a size when switching from rental boots. As long as your heel stays firm in place when you flex your knees, you should have the right size.
Intuition heat-mold liners with refresh foam definitely offer real benefits. They provide a custom fit that enhances comfort and performance by molding to your foot shape. The ability to reheat and restore the liner's shape extends their lifespan and keeps your boots feeling fresh
my daughters feet get cold in the morning for the first few runs. she has good socks and good boots. bought her some full merino wool smartwool socks full cushion so hopefully thatll do the job, because she has tried stance, and 32 with merino wool and still has an issue. any other suggestions?
hopefully the full cushion smartwool will work, if it doesnt do i have any other options other than heated insoles which are outrageously priced.@@PeterGlennSports
@@32srt32 It's possible that heated insoles/socks might be the answer. One other thing that you should ask though, are her feet getting cold overall or is it more about the toes going numb. A lot of the time people that have boots that don't fit properly and have to tighten then down so much get cold toes more because of the loss of blood flow to the toes than anything. If so a hunt for better fitting boots could also be the answer. My wife has that issue, she has very narrow ankles so it's hard for her to find boot that holds her ankle down well.
I'd try to go with another model for sure. If it's still feeling cramped definitely go to a boot fitter and get them checked out. What Burton boot did you buy?
I'm probably a 13.5 4E in normal shoes and have been using 14W Burton Photons the last few years. Unfortunately they're BOAs. Soloman's seems to only be 2E on their wides. Any suggestions to try? I'd really love laces, but my feet limit selection. Maybe I'll try 13W's and see if my big toe won't die.
Hi! I got my first pair of NEW snowboard boots. They checked my foot size really thoroughly and recommended a boot for my shape and size. It's the same size I've used on rentals so that helped. I'm know breaking them in around the house but my feet start going numb close to an hour walking around in them... Is this normal? Do I just need to keep breaking them in? When I first slide into them it's super comfty and I've done all the tests out there to make sure it's my size, I just wanna if the tingling in my feet is just for now. Thanks!
Yes, that is normal for the break in period. A lot of pros wear them in the shower to break them in faster. They may get numb while you are on the chairlift or riding with your bindings tight. These boots since they are the perfect size will be great for getting the most control of your board, If you go up a size while they will be comfy you will not have as much control going from edge to edge because you will be swimming in them. You gotta pay to play, money as well as pain for the gain (which is control of your board.)
@@PeterGlennSports Thanks so much! I'm on the verge of getting 1/2 bigger because I'm scared the numbness won't go away once I've packed them out and that would be unusable for me at this stage. I'll keep using them around the house for at least an hour with a normal sock (no thick ski socks) and hope it keeps getting better. Do you have any recommendations on what part of the boot to tighten less of more? I have a double boa K2 Kinsley 2022, and I've been trying different combinations of tightness between the two boas and the inside laces. Thanks for the help!
Even though boots might feel tight when you first try them on, a bit of expansion is normal as your feet warm up, which is why it's important to make sure they aren’t too tight to begin with. if the binding overhang is minor and your boots are just snug enough to feel comfortable after some time, it shouldn't become a problem. If you're concerned about expansion, just keep an eye on how they feel after riding for a while and adjust the straps as needed.

@@planterznuggz I'd go TM2. I'always say you can always make a stiff boot softer but you can't make a soft boot stiffer.
