Hello, and thank you for these great videos! What is the maximum overhang you would suggest for a hip roof that has a 5m span between exterior walls, 4:12 pitch, using 2x6 commons and 2x8 hips? Id love to go more than 80cm .. I live in Uruguay where we have no snow, moderate winds and the precipitation hovers around 1,000/1,100 millimeters.

      Hi Thanks for your comment.
As to the overhang of the rafters the required overhang is one of the main determing factor in the Rafter size. You would have to check your local span tables however i would suspect that you would need bigger rafters than that to achieve a 800mm overhang. Sorry this may sound like a bit of a cop out however every country is different and i have not experiance in Uruguay.

Sorry if this is a stupid question So the hip rafter needs double edge bevel with a point to it? hard to see on this drawing

    Good job but few observations.
1/ at 1.04 when showing birdsmouth bevels the ceiling joists are not tied to rafters. Roof will spread
2 the edge bevels are close to 45degrees on rmcreepers and hip edge bevels but the steeper the pitch the greater deviation from 45. 45 degrees is theoretically correct if a level plane.
On exposed roof will have gaps.
    Pretty good explaination

Hi Benson, yes however it would be applicable to all roofs of this type.
