- The Invisible Man (2019) is freaking awesome. Creepy, intelligent, modern... what more do you want?
Regardless... or... irregardless... we still went looking for sins and found some, like we normally do.
Remember, no movie is without sin; which movie's sins should we count next?!

The one true horror in this movie is how nobody accidentally bumped into them in their suits and immediately find them out
Omg trueee
There was no one to bump into. She's just crazy.
I'd love to see them do event horizon, I wonder how many sins a near 3 minute intro gets
Everyone would have been slightly confused, think they bumped into something else, or that it was their imagination, and went on with their lives. How many times have you "tripped on nothing" in your life, and we all laugh at you being a clutz? People would not have figured it out, and chalked it up to something else entirely.
True
A movie under 100 Sins
That means that CinemaSins likes this movie
My typical analysis if a movie is worth good or not. Still a few exceptions like Black Panther, but it’s usually a solid rule
Ever played golf?
The movie sucks. It treats the viewer like they are stupid. It is full of tropes. The main character (Elizabeth Moss) is a HORRIBLE actor (she overacts EVERYTHING), the invisible man's breath ruins the suspense, the shootout at the police station is ridiculous. So many plot holes. And the buildup in the beginning in which the chick pulls the bottle of drugs out from under the bed just to look at it, then look at the glass, then swish it around.... Jesus, soooo juvenile. The only redeeming quality of this movie is the cinematography. This will definitely be in the Walmart $5 for 2 bin if it isn't already.

Regarding the super-strength: Didn’t the opening scene reveal that Adrian is strong enough to punch out a car window bareknuckled? (Then again, that itself might be a sin...)
UGNAvalon it is possible to punch out a car window. In fact it probably doesn't take quite as much force as you might think. That being said he should have broken his hand and had severe cuts on it. Side windows aren't made from the same glass as the windshield
@@blufox9000 idk much (or anything really) about cars, but i once saw a video of a black belt wearing hand wraps trying to break a car window with his hand and couldnt manage to even after like 10 tries, so Id say breaking it in one punch still qualifies as wtf levels of strength
Side windows are measurably easy to break.
You need to be a cyborg to break a windshield, though.

Unbelievable? Lol

Iam maya u had the chance to make such a good reference there but u blew it

One thing this movie did well was showing the fear and control that Adrian had over Cecelia's life. You actually feel like you're her. Even when she's "alone" you feel Adrian's presence too because he was that controlling. For those two hours, you feel him in your life like she felt him in hers and that is terrifying.
@@Solmaz_S Very well put!
@@Solmaz_S --- My question is " IS AN ABUSER OBSESSED WITH THE VICTIM ??? "
@@Solmaz_S exactly why my youngest thinks I'm a meanie. The man threatened my life. What was I supposed to do?
@@Solmaz_S gahhh i was in a relationship like that (familial, though, not romantic) and years after i stopped living with them i was still badly affected by the things they did to me. abusive relationships are so controlling and horrifying and i would never wish that on anyone.
@@alimunnaharsetu9415 It depends on the type of abuser. Many abusers are classified as different types depending on their behavior. They typically aren't obsessed with their victim but more with the control they have over that victim. This is why Adrian goes off the deep end when Cecilia leaves him, he's out of control, and to get it back he has to break her psyche.
Syd's reaction to the slap is realistic though. If you get slapped like that out of nowhere, you're definitely in shock and afraid, and you would NOT be like: "Hm, was that actually Cecilia? I'm not sure she was that close to me."
The reason she assumes the "invisibility" idea so quickly is, because she knew how great he was in optics. She even states he was already working on an invisible suit at one point at well.
The thing optics is a broad term and does not necessarily means invisibility, it can be optics for a phone, camera, TV a lot of different stuff, if I told you I worked for a TV company in the optics field would you immediately assume I made myself invisible?
I figured she thought that because of optics and also because of the way the couch looked indented with no one appearing to sit there. Also the fact that the blanket was just gone when she woke up.
@@alexsabillon1478 She knew what he did for a living, he did not work for a tv company.
@@SuperZero1215 well if he was a superintendent in a school , she would not just say he works in the education field , she would say he was a superintendent. The movie just had a lot of plotholes and that's all, defending it will not make then go away. Rather accept its imperfections.
@@alexsabillon1478 you're right, there were plot holes. That wasn't one though. Also no one said the movie was perfect. If you missed that he was that brilliant, you should rewatch. Also read the news article that talks about what he was working on before he "died".
This movie's biggest mistake was revealing that there actually was an invisible man/suit in the trailers.
I mean, it's an Invisible Man movie. If someone isn't invisible, it's kind of false advertising. So that's not much of a reveal.
Coming soon to a theater near you: What Is Happening To Her?!
Doesn't have the same ring to it...
I agree that they shouldn't have revealed the suit in the trailer. I feel like they should have tried to make the trailers look more like a paranormal/psychological horror.
There isn't an invisible man tho.
Honestly I completely forgot about that and before they revealed that in the movie I started doubting Cecilia's claims lol

Honestly, the way they portray Adrien, he is much more terrifying than any slasher, despite being only human.
Oh man. That moment where she didn’t drive off after pickup her distressed sister was maddening. 😂😂😂
😬
For real though, like, wtf why the writers make everyone so oblivious 😒
I’m waiting for the redditors to come in and try be funny because you used emojis
and the fact that she had a bag with her
I remember watching that and being sooo mad LOL
The thing about the scenes where they moved the camera focus away from Cecelia is that they’re meant to make the viewer think something is gonna move. It’s a cliche that you’re expecting something to move or you know something will happen because you think “oh the invisible man is there” but nothing ends up moving and you’re on to the next scene and i feel like _that_ makes the movie more eerie.
in other words: it subverts expectations.
I believe those scenes were to let the audience know he's definitely there in the room and the fact that we think something will move helps build tension
Good directing. Garbage writing.
@@xMACHOxMANx the writer and director was the same person so it’s funny you say that. This movie left me with many questions but honestly the tone, acting, filmography, music, and scares are so well done I don’t even care.
Fun fact. it's not actually luck that he was holding a knife. He offered three choices for dinner, Sushi, Pasta, or Steak and only the steak requires a knife and she choose it without hesitation. Fun sin video as always and IV was a fun movie.
11:45 I’m surprised you didn’t point out the fact that her hair and clothes were dry after being drenched from rain at the hospital
The scene in the attic with the paint scared me so much. Like I actually jumped.
Seriously that shit was shocking
Would've been soooo much scarier for me if the trailer didn't spoil it for me
It was in the trailer they really killed the scare
Good thing that paint makes a weird loud scream noise when thrown so it's still a little startling despite the trailer spoiling it.
It would have done the same to me if they didn’t show it in the trailer
WHY IS THE DOG STILL THERE!? WHY IS HIS EQUIPMENT STILL THERE?! Cops and government would've taken that crap.
Another reason why this movie is so stupid
Or, alternatively, his estate went to his next of kin, which happens to also be his lawyer. That's probably why he faked his death at a hotel, so the cops had no reason to go snooping around the house.
She let the dog go when she left and it ran off. Adrian or his brother were probably there when it came back to the house. The cops wouldn't have known where the dog was and probably thought the house was empty.
@EpicGurth Both.
The government would have tried to use the suit in combat for stealth missions I know I would if I had that suit i would have used it in stealth missions
Anyone else notice how in the end when Tom goes to attack Sydney she’s wearing a shirt with a jellyfish on it. Earlier when Tom was talking to Cecilia about keeping the baby, she referred to Tom as being nothing but “the jellyfish version of Adrian.” So her shirt basically foreshadows that he’s the invisible man. Small detail that I noticed second viewing
Thank you for this! ☺️ I love a good foreshadowing moment
I saw the jellyfish and related it to the convo earlier, but I then immediately forgot about it when he was revealed minutes later, LOL.
Thank you!!!! That opening scene sure was tense but I gritted my teeth at the moronic sister saying "what's wrong?" When she's OBVIOUSLY being chased by a madman!!!! Also when he was in her room in the asylum. What he didn't eat, drink or fart for days?
He drank from the toilet, duh lol.
Those farts were silent and deadly
The punch scene pissed me off. She was like 5 feet away in a half laying down position .
Thank you!
Exactly !
I literally rewind that scene to make sure I wasn't crazy
???
I thought I was the only one that noticed that
Sin 68: There were actually 2 invisible men present at that time. It’s not certain whether Tom and Adrian were working together for the whole movie, but it’s clear that they were both present in James’ house. After one of them gets sprayed and falls on the drawers, the daughter runs out of the room and gets arm barred a few seconds later. Unless Tom has super speed, there was no way he was catching up. It’s implied it was Adrian who did most of the violent acts, and it was Adrians voice speaking to Cecelia at the hospital in the car park. Again, there’s no way to know if they were both at it together throughout the whole film, but they were both in James’ house when Tom got shot. Adrian of course managed to escape
haha, you actually enjoyed this trash fire of a film.
@@rodgygormin Along with millions of other people. Thank u, next.
Also, for sin 37. Jamie does hear a shower running before being attacked in the kitchen. We're initially led to believe that the shower is a distraction before Jamie is attacked in the kitchen, but it's much more likely that the kitchen attack is the actual distraction so that Tom can clean the suit and get the hell out of dodge.

Cindy sprays one invisible man with pepper spray which makes him fall into the table. Then Cindy immediately runs out, but somehow there is another invisible man in the hall way waiting for Cindy.

My parents' attic requires getting a ladder to go up, no string, no stairs, nothing.
Yeah older houses usual dont have that style of attic access. Jeremy doesnt understand a different style of attic - ding.
@@justadude2377 Also, that sort of attic has been in every house I've lived in, in the UK. In fact, I can only think of one person who had a pull down access attic that I've seen.
Might be a thing between attics you use for stuff (having a train set up there or something - as in the one person I knew who had one) or attics you use to just store crap in.
The attic in this house I'm in has a hatch like that *right next to a stairwell* - getting in there is....interesting.

The daughter thinking she slapped her was the ONLY gripe I had with this movie, everything else was extremely solid!
I agree that was a bit odd. Tbh I thought the sister was a bit annoying how she didn't listen to Cecelia despite her witnessing what a psycho Adrian was.
I'm still pissed off with how stupid Emily was when it came to her assuming that her sister was sending her fool you mail even though she is very paranoid about being found out
The daughter getting smacked and thinking it was Cecilia is tied out with the dumb shit the sister did.
What we see as the audience is not always what is actually happening. We are following the story from Cecelia's perspective, which means that, if she was crazy and doing all those things on her own while actually believing that Adrian was alive and stalking her, it would make sense for us to see that scene as her being far away from the daughter, but in reality it actually being Cecelia slapping her.
Just my two cents. However, there were stupid things, yeah, like the sister believing her email, like some people mentioned in other comments. This particular one is just one that could maybe be explained away in some fashion.
I agree. That part was stupid, BUT I really enjoyed this movie.

Also, isn't it revealed that the suit makes those weird ''clicking'' noises due to the cameras? Why is that only SOMETIMES audible? how can he ever sneak up on someone if you can hear clicking?!
Tbf, it's pretty damn quiet. I had headphones on during this movie, and I only saw the subtitles 70% of the time. I would go back and MAYBE hear a slight noise, that I didn't even think was the clicking.
@@GriFFonRec4 Oh totally, it was definantly not always something you could hear, but you can in certain scenes, usually only in the scenes where we have already been informed he's in.

It could still work, especially if the person being targeted is doing work that can silence the clicking.
Emily was easily the worst character in the entire movie. She'd be the family member where you'd walk in, throw up on the floor, double over in pain, and start screaming for the hospital, and all she'd do is go "What's wrong with you?"

I think the reason that Adrian fought in the hospital hallway instead of running away was to set up Tom. When Cecilia damaged his suit , he probably figured it would be seen on camera. That's exactly why he let some witnesses live. It's very brilliant in hindsight.

About the attic ladder issue: some attics aren't meant for storage, and are only supposed to be accessed by maintenance personnel. Mine, for example, is where the furnace is located, so I have quite a bit less storage space than I expected I'd have.

that's why he haunted her at night, but even then, the artificial lights would've cast a shadow. But then again, that would ruin the entire movie cos suspense is key to such movies.
I love your channel man. I watch it all the time. I have to say though, it is completely possible to be totally silent around a target. I'm a hunter, and I've had deer, coyotes, and so forth be within a foot of me, and be unaware
"Why didn't Tony Stark think of this?"
They talk about this in Iron Man 3, when the kid talks to him about "retro-reflective panels to make him stealth mode", tony jokes and says "Maybe I'll build one". It's a joke because Tony already experimented with stealth tech, and Mk 15(Sneaky) and 16(Nightclub) were both stealth suits, and they show up in the final battle of Iron Man 3 for a few brief moments.
"I'm the invisible man, i'm the invisible man...It's so incredible how I can....SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOU!"
A man of culture I see.
I was going to comment this lol

This is queen correct?
Something that wasn't mentioned is that even though she found his cellphone in the attic, she left it there instead of taking it and using it as evidence that she was telling the truth.
But!! But... hear me out, she touched all the stuff up there, leaving her fingerprints that would make people think that she put it up there herself And didn't even take photos of it proving that the stuff is up there if they were moved by the time she told her friend there was stuff in his attic
I'm glad you mentioned the email thing because that shit bothered me too much, but I'm surprised you didn't say anything about Cecilia getting in and out of the suit so fast at the end of the movie.
I'm a little dubious as to how, when she took the 'bathroom break' at the end, in that short time she managed to get to the walk in closet where she had stashed the other suit and then, considering the suit is obviously a close fitting 'rubbery' garment, (made to fit the intended wearer), get undressed (that dress would likely make putting on such a garment a real pain.) Then get into the ill fitting suit with ease, having never used it before, work out how it works properly, proceed to kill Adrian, then go back, get out of it, get back into her evening dress/heels. All in such a short space of time.
Heck, we even get a convenient timer on the security cam for the latter part of the kill. From the time she cuts his throat to the time she comes back into the room back in her normal attire, acting distressed, is literally about 1 minute. Her being able to get out of the suit and put it in the bag, get her clothes/heels back on, and walk back into the dining room in that time frame, very unlikely. And while doing all that, not have James listening in on the wire wonder what the heck all the ruffling sounds etc are while gets in and out of the suit. It didn't ruin the film for sure but well, just not believable.
Even when I first saw this film and theaters I was like “geez, he’s invisible. Not a phantom. How the heck is he everywhere all the time and able to go undetected as much as he does?”
Yeah, his ability to travel without issue makes no sense. He’s not calling Uber, he’s not driving a car, he’s not jumping into random cars to get anywhere.
@@daughterofolaf How do we know he's not calling uber or driving a car though? Just because it doesn't show it.
The movie stablished that him and his brother were using the suit.
Yeah if the suit hadn't been revealed IN THE TRAILERS, his travel methods wouldn't have bugged me as much because for all I know, it could be a ghost.
That's absolutely true and very sinnable, but for some reason I didn't click on that watching it. Maybe because once he's invisible he seems supernatural and all-powerful, I don't know.
What about the dog named "Zeus" cliche?
And yes I've had a dog named Zeus.
My cousin has a dog named Thor. Similar motif. Is it because of the bark?
My dad's dog is named Zeus he's a mastiff and Australian shepherd mix
Same. We had two massive Akita’s. Zeus and Hercules. Lol.
i wouldn't call it a cliche, just a common dog name. it's always better to use a common dog name in a movie (for realism) unless the unusual name of the dog is important to the story/the dog is the main character. Zues is just as common a dog name as Lucy, Thor, Bella, Daisy, Cooper, Harley, Jake, etc
And just to reinforce what you're saying, how about "Zeus! Apollo! Kill!" from the original Magnum, P.I.
Best episode of Cinema Sins I've seen in awhile. Good job
Kudos for sinning off the opening sequence, "masterclass in suspense" is exactly right.
10:24 She slit her wrist in the shower scene and it looked fine in the next cut with no blood stains, and her hand seemingly felt fine afterwards (Ding)
The biggest sin of this movie is... The entire point of becoming invisible is to avoid detection and use that ability to benefit in some way. This person did absolutely nothing useful with that power and it enrages me.
To an unstable psychopath, using it to torment someone they loath would be considered "good use". If you have the mindset that someone you know is as deserving of having their life ruined as a criminal, then that is justification enough for the villain. Obviously a sane person would use it for greater benefit, whether it be evil or good, but an insane person would use it for what they believe to be a greater benefit, when in fact it is not
At least he could have peeked in the girls' shower at the local high school.
he literally drugged her AND had sex with her to get her pregnant how-
Not only was she able to control the knife in his right hand but she was able to keep his left hand firmly on the table so that he completely was unable to move. In that actual scenario any rational person would shift positions, try to stand up or use their opposing hand and arm to gain control. But the rest of his body remained totally still. He didn't yell or anything. In the restaurant scene when he made it appear like she sliced her sister's throat it was very quick and done in one swift motion. But when she makes it look like he slit his own throat there were clearly several seconds of struggle between them. I mean I liked the movie but c'mon.
Wait, really? You thought the painting dumping scene was a good scare? I already saw that coming. You have done a phenomenal job in desensitizing me to those.
I love how this movie represent a lot of how ptsd after leaving an abusive relationship feels like. It gave me the feels a bit.
The movie would've been great if it focused on her PTSD, paranoia and revealed that there is no invisible man but she actually suffers from dissociative identity disorder, instead they decided to introduce the stupid suit with the stupid little cameras that made no sense.
In that case, Elisabeth Moss did a great job (as she usually does). The title of the movie is a double entendre as Adrian was a highly intelligent, but emotionally codependent individual lack of personality unless somebody controlled them. For a long time into their adulthood, that was Tom, his brother. At some point Cecilia discovered that she can have a "normie" life, going to college, marry the guy who treats her right (James), or she can latch herself onto Adrian and take his life over.
Cecilia, until the end did a convincing job of being a victim of circumstances (which for the record many people in these situations genuinely are), when in fact it was Tom who crossed her plans by donning the second suit and actually terrorizing her. What we saw did happen, only she wasn't traumatized, as sociopaths don't register trauma. James, her daughter, her sister whom she wanted dead for personal vindictive reasons all had to believe that the girl who always cried wolf, this time, was genuinely a victim.
@@akosbarati2239 Again mate, very clearly just a crackpot theory, unless you can point to hard evidence to back up that claim.
@@ErebosGR I honestly don't know if that would have been the right route either. I think what would have truly made this movie special is if they had left it unclear the entire time. The movie is shown to us through Cecilias perspective, so whenever she is alone or no one looks in her direction, what we see could be Cecilia being an unreliable narrator, who thinks that certain acts (like her getting harmed or her sister getting killed) are being carried out by an invisible Adrian, hence we as audience see them that way, when really she is unknowingly doing these things herself. A few alterations to some scenes, so that the existence of the suit isn't objective anymore, and this could have essentially become the horror-version of Inception in terms of open endings that leave you mauling the movie over in your mind long after it has ended.
TheMike0088 I personally think that the movie’s choice to show that Adrian was doing the things he was doing was the right choice. When it comes to abuse and domestic violence, it’s very difficult for the victim to be believed, and their story is often discredited or cast aside. This regularly leads to people getting away with psychological abuse like this. Because of that, the movie needed to show that Cecilia wasn’t crazy and that she was still being manipulated and abused by Adrian. This is the story we needed and I’m glad it was told the way it was.

I saw this jumpscare in the trailer, so I knew the jumpscare was coming. My mom, however, did NOT see the trailer, so when this jumpscare happened, I didn't get jumpscared by the jump scare, I got jumpscared by my moms getting jumpscare.
Jumpscare.
Jumpception.
Suit must give her super speed as well cause in the final kill scene she changed in and out that suit amazingly quick
Sin #7. She has the GPS collar of her dog in her bag! Im gonna assume that's how he knew where to go...every single time...
With number 26, Ive always called that the 'doubt the history' trope. Where two characters who know each other for a long time have a situation where one completely changes their mind about the other character based on one instance - so the movie can happen. OR when a character believes the new character in their life over the character that they have a consistent history with; sister believes her new boyfriend over her own sister, etc.
All us insomniacs felt attacked 😂
Also can you cover fantasy island lol
Yea fantasy island had me confused but I knew something was up when every one’s “dream” turned bad 😂
Oh Cinemasins would have a FIELD DAY with that movie
I think the suit actually does give them enhanced strength considering the ending where she overpowered Adrian completely and all the ass Adrian kicked in the movie too
How? It is not an Iron man suit.
Wuhan Clan probably part of the system or whatever I wouldn’t know an exact explanation but everyone who wears the suit seems to be much stronger then just normal people
@@dredwick its a fictional suit in fictional movie.. i know you dislike the film but your imagination needs improvement
@@dredwick bruh its an invisible suit cmon dude, it has mechanized cameras which are semi biological in nature I think but not sure, maybe they also push a bit of force into movement.
@@pjmonkeyjohnson You don't think you are going a bit overboard off of me simply asking how? Smfh. It seems like your imagination needs improvement because you are not able to think about an explanation and instead just want to dribble drabble ad hominem drivel.
This movie had potential, and the acting was great, but the decisions some characters make are straight brainlet moves. Like Emily immediately thinking her sister hates her. And especially in the asylum hallway scene, why the hell didn't Cecilia take one of the guards' guns and shoot Adrian when he was taking aim at the last guard? Plenty of time, non-moving target...just ruined it for me
I was yelling at my tv to shoot him with one of the guns, let alone she stabbed him in the chest/neck but no effect?
@@ej1493 Exactly
Like frfr I would’ve been like she couldn’t have taken down that many guards and plus they were cameras and they were still trying to detain her while the other guards were getting fucked up and she’s like 10 feet away from it happening like that whole scene made me mad 😂😂
because you obviously don't understand human psychology. Imagine thinking humans are perfectly rational in high stress situations. There are guards knocked out and dead around you from a guy you are TERRIFIED of you expect someone to be perfectly rational?
@@painexotic3757 it’s not human psychology it just didn’t make sense how that scene went she was a good amount of distance away from the action so it couldn’t have made sense for her to be able to do damage like that also CAMERAS and there are other security guards watching them so like I said before that scene made no sense with all that in place
The director sinned at least one thing that I can recall in the commentary for the movie. He said that the stuff in fire extinguishers doesn't actually stick to people like that.
I would like to state that while tony stark didn’t think of the invisible suit. The kid in iron man 3 did, it is called retro-reflective panels
This is my favorite new movie of the year so far, and I'm so glad you removed so many sins. But as always loved the sins just as much
7:10 this is the first time ever I've heard the phrase this movie is really good on cinemacins
So from what I can tell, the shots where it moved to another part of the room were less to make you watch for objects moving and more to tell you exactly where Adrian is in that moment. It was centering on a character that we couldn't see but was still technically there.
There's literally no way she should've been strong enough to force Adrian to kill himself. Not like that. Unless the suit has superstrength or everyone in this movie just works out like a mofo, lol
biggest sin: ending makes no sense, if you break down the fact the ex supposedly knew everything about her and her movements. He should have known she hid the suit or one was missing.
I dont think the guy was home when she entered. So she had time to take the suit. Once he arrived and went to the basment is when she ran and hid the suit, somewhere he couldnt find it. Plus, he was still chasing the girl so im sure he was focused on that
why would he know that? she made it in the machine so it’s not like he knew it existed already, and he wasn’t at the house just yet when she made it
ethan she never made it she stole it from a stand where it’s quite literally the only thing in the room. Not to mention there’s a tablet on the wall that shows what the cameras are seeing. I agree the end makes no sense, I have no idea why she just left it in his house when she could’ve brought it on the police or even put it on. Don’t tell me she had time to shove it in some drawer but not to put it on
We're shown earlier in the movie that she has a secret place to hide stuff, she hides her go-bag in a place he didn't find before and because he was so focused on her he probably never think to look for it. Plus we're shown the brothers are both using the suits so he most likely had multiple copies for them to use and we're shown they can be damaged. I like to believe when he gets paint on him they swap and the brother comes in(because he is so violent without care, while the boyfriend is more of a creeper and likes to mentally destroy her) to throw her around while the ex goes home to change suits and clean the other. That's why a missing suit wouldn't draw much attention compared when she's in the house and investigating their invisible antics.
ethan Yep, what Big Blue said. I don’t know where you got the idea that the machine actually “made” another suit on the fly. The movie clearly showed that all she did was retrieve the suit she hid. There are only two suits in the movie as far as she is concerned.
The original comment is not asking that, but rather why such a obsessive person like Adrian didn’t suspect she had obtained/hid the suit somehow.
the moment I finished this movie I couldn’t wait for u to do a video on it😭
Never even searched Adrian’s place after sending a whole swat team there. “This looks like the same suit that the invisible killer used. Better just leave it where I found it.”
