    Having been born and raised on O'ahu and having a father who was a reserve HPD officer, I found the explanation of subsidized vehicles accurate. When I was in high school in the 80's, the Chevy Monte Carlo SS was the most popular subsidized car. Back then they had a single rotating light.

      @@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses , fun fact, technically, Hawaii DOES, in fact, have a state police force of sorts, they are just essentially a blend of the different island/county sheriff's offices and a typical state police, thus the term of Hawaii State Sheriff. Also, speaking of state police forces in the USA, up until around 1995, California was the only state to have both a state police and a highway patrol, but the former got merged into the latter.

    • @jamesscott2894
      @jamesscott2894 2 года назад

      Yeah it's a bit different with the Sheriff being a State organization not a county one. Part of it is we don't really have "Cities", at least not in the usual sense. Oahu at least, it is the City and County of Honolulu for the whole island (hence Honolulu Police even in like Waianae or North Shore). Basically it's one combined municipal government organized like a big City (Mayor, City Council, PD, FD, etc) but also handles all the county level municipal stuff, the City of Honolulu and County of Honolulu are one and the same, no difference, hence "City&County". The other island counties don't have any singular big cities to share the moniker, so it's just say the Mayor of Kauai or the Mayor of Maui County, Mayor of Hawaii County and their County governments also do the same, combine city and county municipal in one organization for their areas, so the Sheriffs ended up being the next level up, which is the State

    So interesting! And the subsidised cars part is a fun little bit of trivia unique to Hawaii it seems. I like the high-vis cruise lights idea, although I'm from the UK and always think that American police cars are far too "low-vis" usually. They wouldn't need to run the cruise lights constantly if they used our reflective high-vis livery like in the UK! Safety trumps looking cool or intimidating for us here. Some great shots though, just remember to adjust your shutter angle to stop the LED lights from flickering when they should be steady-on.

    • @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses
      @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the comment! And I agree on the visibility of North American police cars. I don’t think law enforcement should be overly intimidating (maybe to an extent). And yes I’ll work on the camera skills 😁

    • @paxhumana2015
      @paxhumana2015 2 года назад

      They are intentionally low-visibility as to not be like a big neon sign saying "cop" to criminals, but then again, the UK is full of them that protected Jimmy Saville, plus the Royals have done some evil things of their own.

    • @znovosad555
      @znovosad555 Год назад +1

      Actually ironically enough, very recent studies have now disproven the safety aspects of the battenburg design. While highly effective in the daytime, at nighttime the amount of reflective material is often too much, and it gets shined back onto the motorists vision, making it difficult to see personnel working on said areas. They can easily see the car, but not the people outside of it. Defeats the whole purpose of safety. The single 4 inch stripe was found to be more effective in a safer manner with a combination of red and blue lights being the best color combinations. Also to note vehicle flash patterns also play a huge role in safety, and utilizing photocells to ambiently adjust the emergency lights, and systems like CORE or BLUEPRINT which not only slow patterns down once parked and stopped, to less distracting patterns, but also synchronizes any other vehicle equipped to the same tech. The US is advancing much further on these forms of innovation than the UK alike.

    • @aaronkamakaze2967
      @aaronkamakaze2967 Год назад +1

      Lol it has nothing to do with looking cool. It's about not being visible to potential criminals ... Its being present but not present enough where it's blatantly obvious . also as someone stated previously the reflective !material has caused issues st night.

    • @dustinwilliams6371
      @dustinwilliams6371 7 месяцев назад

      Actually you're wrong, It's not about safety in this aspect. All law enforcement run their lights on steady burn in Honolulu. It is to increase their presence to reduce crime. There does come a time when a police car needs to be discreet and blend in, which is hard to do if you have a hi viz sticker that you can't turn off.
